Proper Mod Load Order

Hey all, this page is as confusing as it is helpful, but I am grateful for all the advice I am finding here. I don't know if this is the right thread for this question, but: Does the load order work in any way like a webpage that draws on several asset files?

My understanding is that the game compiles the long list of assets that are mods into an order it can work with and overwrites/disables repeating lines as it goes down the list, unless something is marked important by the author(s), or conflicts with another line, in which case >crash<. It also reads it from the top every time it loads an area or you do a reload.

This becomes relevant to the load order, which I have to set manually, as I am playing on a Mac with WINE (from what I gather, no LOOT. No FNIS either, but that's another topic). Painful and time-consuming, no way to check how "solid" it is, but worth it when it works :smile: So I'm looking for a general rule of thumb to work by when I add new mods, or try to find a place for that "I wanna go fishing" mod:

3- Static assets- Texture packs, mesh improvements, cities, flora, sound, environment, etc (SMIM, Flora Overhaul)

4- Dynamic global assets- NPC, Animal, Monsters overhaul, Sound, Music etc - if it moves, it lives here (Hott interesting NPC's, SOS,

5- Specific environments- If you want Sky Haven Temple to look different, or the thieves guild

6- Specific behaviors and assets (Combat and AI mods that affect specific situations, specific NPC overhauls)

7- Environment assets that affect the above (Weather, things like Wet and Cold)

8- Lighting and visual enhancements (that affect nothing except visuals, but affect shaders)
10- extra scripted and specific behaviours that extends above (Things like NPC's following you through water, or questlines that affect a single location)

11- Specific fixes for conflicts (mod patches, etc)

I understand that some things are not quite as intuitive as that and that some mods might need to be in a place that is counter to that order.

I'm amazed how far this series has come since Daggerfall… and how little the vanilla game has changed from that. Mods have made a new and worthwhile experience out of this for me, so grateful for pointers to make the experience as smooth as possible.

Next write down all the mods you want to get based on this topic list:

Top of the list

-Unofficial Game Patches

-bug fixes

-difficulty overhauls

-realism overhauls

-hunting overhauls

-quest fixes

-game altering mods for example-27 legendary bosess, Draco leveled enemies, time scale and other global tweaks, brutality hardcore rebalanced ect.

Mid part of the mod list

-weapon mods

-armor mods

-ammo mods

-cheat items

Mid last part of the mod list

-any quest mods that add modded quest

Last part of the list which is all the way at the bottom remember the game loads the mods bottom up not top to bottom whiter mods on the top of the list will be the last to load which are mods changing gameplay entirely.

Bottom of the list

-character models

-Re texured mods such as clothing,houses,towns,furniture ect

-SFX such as radio stations or sound effects

-Companions

-Hairstyles

-Facial Mods that add new options for your character

-Any overhaul that affects models in the game or any character

-lighting overhauls

-grass overhauls

Read any and all load order instructions for load specific information, if it's clean, and conflicts then COMPLY!!!!

Use MO

Follow the tutorial by gamer poets for cleaning the master files to locate your missing clean game esms.

Once they are clean

Next download the ones not on the list with MO (NMM is ok but expect heartache if Alduin takes a crap on your list.

Start installing from the top to bottom resolve any overwrites and check with loot. For each one.

Next open ts5edit for errors if so see gopher and gamer poets for the best way to resolve conflict.

9 out of ten are modded error.

Once no errors are found clean only the mods that are dirty like the games: one by one.

Do not clean as according to ck wiki

Do NOT clean Skyrim.esm

Do NOT clean the unofficial patches (USKP, UDGP, UHFP, UDBP). They have already been cleaned.

Better Sorting by Headbomb or its Compatibility Patches.

Once completed (which can be long and tedious) take her for a spin. I am 7 days no ctd with mine. (I'd share but I'm tweaking my first mod right now.)

So I am getting some odd CTD's and I don't understand why, I use EMBoost and MME and yet the game still crashes at some points, Also I will install a mod and it will be missing in SKSE or not work after I start the game... I do use loot to fix my Load order but it makes things worst (for example: I would fix RSChildren Order and Loot f*#@s up the order thaat I have for it)

here is my Load Order I am still fixing the RSC's so they can wear armor and stuff, Also I don't have any of the "Unofficial Game Patches" because it use to form even more CTD's has soon I step in and out of doors or shift into the over-world. I know and understand that there is a lot of trial and error with modding and all of that but even with following youtube Modding Guides and stuff I still do not understanding what I am doing wrong.

Note: I do use Loot(i barely use do to some L.O. Issues), MO(I really don't know how to fully use this even with vids), NMM(I use this alot), TES5Edit & save cleaner(I have not use these because it resets my Mod options in game). I also have ENboost has well but it forms CTD's while it is on.

Hi guys, I need a bit of help from someone, I can't even start my Skyrim anymore *cries* I open the game, press continue, it shows the loading screen for a while then just crashes :( pretty sure it's a load order problem or maybe a conflict somewhere, there's no missing masters warnings, I've ran LOOT several times but can't seem to find anything. Run your list through wrye bash, it will tell you if you are missing something. are you able to start a new game? Did you swap out mods in the middle of an existing play through?

Haven't tried starting a new playthrough yet, also haven't removed anything that I can recall & I've only added a couple of cloak mods & 1 that adds a few shrines for Aedra/Daedra that you can add to your campsite. I also ran WryeBash, good news: I can actually start the game more often than not. Bad news: I now seem to get more frequent CTDs in-game. Can't have everything I guess.

Hey guys I really need help. Some of my mods like XPMSE are acting up and not showing styles and fammilar faces isint working as well along with some other ones.
