New Vegas LODGen Questions

That looks to me as if the wrong texture has been applied to the mesh, which makes it a "graphics problem". (The "lines" portion of a "power line tower" are usually too small to be displayed at a distance.) A "quick fix" is unlikely as some investigation is required. The "quickest" solution is probably going to be to re-install your VWD/LOD files so your intended "winners" which overwrite earlier files are installed last. (That can get complicated as different mods affect different things.) Read on.

Because "Texture/Mesh" replacement mods replace vanilla versions of those files, you absolutely have to toggle "ArchiveInvalidation (AI)" off-and-then-on again after installing or removing one of them so it recognizes that there are loose files (added by the mod) which have to be used in place of the vanilla files in the BSA files or are no longer there and the BSA files should be used instead.

-Dubious-

Yo it's been a while I am re learning as much as I can. Archive Invalidation is checked on for my mod's profile and the test profile but not the default. Should it be on for default too? Also I found in the MO data tab 5 mods with red error names. Perhaps one of these is responsible for my problem? They are all patches of their base mods. I am rusty as f*** but I uploaded a picture:

Well I am not familiar with these new fangled mod managers . But dubious was saying to toggle archive invalidation ... which just means to turn it off , then on again . Or remove / apply ... just before you launch the game with your load order.

So you are always running the game with it ... but when changes are made ... it needs to redo its thing since it is not an active on going process.

Beyond that I couldn't really say what your problem is ... since I am rusty as heck myself .

Yeah I tried archive invalidation toggle, no luck, still have those big power line towers having incorrect LOD texture. When you get close enough to them they pop back to normal.

I went up to a few of those power line towers and checked the console. They are called ScolElectricityPyloneWires2b. Most of them showed up as FalloutNV.esm but there were two that showed up as GrowOp.esp which is my hilarious marijuana grow op mod. So I moved the GrowOp mod to the bottom of my load order in Mod Organizer 2.

Still no change. From now on before I launch New Vegas from MO2 I always toggle Archive Invalidation.

**EDIT** I just noticed in my first picture there's a similar texture problem in the mountains in the background behind the tower. That weird brown pattern.

Also there is one overwrite thing going on but it's been like this since before I made a LODGen, so I doubt it is affecting it:

**EDIT 2** Figure I'd put all this into one post to avoid multi-posting in a row. I'm following the guide:

Issue - Find the source mod-index of an object in-game

So I got the ID numbers for two ScolElectricityPyloneWires2b. One of them is 0015e215 and that's growop.esp. The other one is 0015E16B and that's FalloutNV.esm. The Fallout one seems fine, no red boxes. The grow op one has some oddities though:

By itself it seems ok, I don't see red. In fact it's all green. But within that section of Worldspace there are a few red boxes starting in the view panel for WastelandNV which I'm pretty sure is a mod:

https://ibb.co/ZTYXdHD

The thing that's red about it is just the Water and LODWater Type for a few mods like Functional Post Game Ending. I haven't gone to any bodies of water since I made this LODGen.

Within that section there is another red box numbered 000DACCC and lo and behold it shows the GrowOp in red to the right in the EditorID. Also got a couple of yellow boxes but hopefully those can be ignored:

https://ibb.co/Bn0Lkdx

further down that section there is an older mod I got called Legion Quests Expanded plus another mod called LQE CampGrills giving me a couple of red boxes in the XCLR Regions.

https://ibb.co/Ryw9pKL

The same two mods further down the list appear as red in another Region section. I don't think this is related to that power line tower LOD texture glitch though.

Finally in the GreenhouseWorld01 there's a couple of Object bounds red boxes for the Yugi's Unofficial Patch mod or whatever it's called, YUP - Base Game + All DLC.esm. MojaveWasteland makes another appearance and again it has water and LOD water boxes in red:

https://ibb.co/mNbBsFk

And that's all the red boxes I have in my FNVEdit Worldspace section under the category [00FalloutNV.esm] which is at the top of the list. Strange... I assumed the red boxes would be under one of the mod sections, not the default FalloutNV.esm section.

I shall continue to investigate. I post this mainly for my own notes and learning experience, and on the off chance a pro who might read this can spot the problem a mile away.

Now I'm gonna redo my LODGen. I was reading about atlas settings and how it's supposed to be 8000 or something, not the default 1000 or whatever it is. **EDIT** Awww my atlas was already set up for 8192. Also, after wandering around more outside the city, I'm starting to notice texture pop in and other bad LODs on the mountains from far away before popping back to normal texture.

Hmmm... I beginning to think my LOD is solely to blame. I was REALLY careful whilst I was installing my mods last year, and the game was playing fine. I played without any LODGen for a long time and I barely noticed any texture pop in. It wasn't until I made it to the strip when I started to notice far away objects like buildings and power line towers were invisible until I got closer. That's when my immersion started to fade. I set render distance for terrain to the maximum and it still wasn't enough. So that's when I tried my first LODGen. I'll keep trying.

lol I double checked my mods and there are no texture mods which means I can use THIS already made LODGen from the Viva New Vegas guide https://vivanewvegas.github.io/visuals.html#generated_lod

This was the guide I was using to make my new mod setup. I can't believe I forgot to get this! I guess at the time I was unfamiliar with LODGen. So I deleted my texture and meshes folder of the previous LODGen, installed Vanilla LOD, fired up the game and WALLAH! Problem solved me thinks:

Glad you got it ... cuz I had no clue ... the only thing I had was some one years ago talking about the Alpha on those towers in Fo3 .

Which I don't know anything about either :\

My specialty is more about the interworkings of the geck ... ways not obvious to make the engine render said scene to player.

But not to be confused with textures / nifs / creating assets.

No I just take the assets as they are , and create with them.

Alright alright alright!

Tanks Mktavish. And thanks dubious. I was playing Far Cry 2 (Redux mod) recently and I kept thinking "This is like a less immersive Fallout New Vegas." I stopped playing FNV though cause of that damn LOD problem. HALLELUJAH! I just went cross country and yeah, LOD issue is completely fixed.
