Dew
Hey, I'm new to morrowind and I have a level 1 mage character that im currently working on, after abandoning my level 5 thief. I was in the mages guild doing jobs for people, and I did that one where you put the fake gem in the desk upstairs...Well, while i was there and she was downstairs I swiped all her stuff, including the gem worth 60,000 gold. I'm not exactly sure what I should do with this thing, it's too expensive to sell and I dont really know how to use them for my benefit  Tips would be appreciated :) Also, does anybody know about the performance of the morrowind engine? I noticed practically everybody has fps troubles, and I do as well, but I have a decent system to run the game on and I dont think I should be getting 15-30 fps. It's a p4 2.0, Geforce 4 ti 4200, and 512mb ddr. Thanks :D :D :D
Eiade
No, you can't really sell it. You can use it to make an enchanted item or weapon. But DON't GO TO GALBEDIR. She'll recognize her soul gem (or any other soul gem for that matter <_< ). Any NPC that has the 'enchantment' option can make an enchanted item for you. You choose a weapon or piece of clothing in your inventory, and a possessed soul gem. In order to enchant something with a certain effect, you have to know the spell counterpart to it. Say, if you wanted to make a weapon with fire damage, you'd have to know a fire spell. Plus, the better the enchantment, the more expensive it is, obviously. Keep the soul gem until you have an excellent weapon and plenty of money to enchant it with. Happy Morrowinding! :D
Dew
Thanks for your help, and sorry for posting this in the general forum...Didnt notice the newbie thing  So is it just me or is morrowind just a really slow game? The 15 fps is killing me <_<
Adras
15 FPS is normal if you are outside, especially in Balmora. I've had 5 FPS outside in Balmora before. But, if you have XP, hit 'CTRL + ALT + DELETE' and check how high your CPU Useage is. If its over probably 10% then you will most certainly get a low FPS. The other thing I would suggest is the Morrowind Optomizer. I personally dont like it much because it reduces the view distance when you arent in motion, so when you talk to someone, you are surrounded in a thick fog where you cant see ANYTHING except for the message box. Thats why I dont use it, but you can if you want.

Malchik
If you are playing a mage type character you will probably want to join House Telvanni. Later on when you come to build your stronghold you need two grand soul gems filled with high level souls. You can keep the Winged Twilight for that if you wish! VG_King
If you have the tribunal and bloodmoon expansions: Or you can save the gem and sell it to a person either in Mournhold (the Pawnbroker Dark Elf that has 8k) or the trader in Solstheim (if you do the east empire company quests and choose a trader over a smith) for 10k. Even though it is worth 60k, once you hit about lvl 15 you can basically trap anything you want (Golden Saints gems worth about 7million...might be wrong, all i know is that they are worth more than winged twilights)... meaning you can make big money off of gems. The best way to trap souls in soul gems is to summon the creatures yourself. My advice is: it doesn't matter how much the item is worth, just sell it for as much as you can get. Malchik
Golden Saints and Ascended Sleepers - the only souls that can give constant effect enchantments - are worth 80000. Get a Daedric Tower Shield and get an Enchanter/Trader to put a powerful spell on it, constant effect. This could cost you 140,000. This money will (subject to certain conditions) now be in the enchanter's budget. You can sell your expensive gems. Provided you have LOW mercantile skills and the enchanter's disposition is high you get about two-thirds of the value. By this means you can get your 140,000 back and use it again. I use Galbedir because she will also buy all those highly priced Daedric weapons. However you can't use her if you have nicked her gem stash! Loopy
You could sell it to the mudcrab or creeper. Look at my other post that Malchik locked :P
VG_King
You could sell it to the mudcrab or creeper. Look at my other post that Malchik locked :PNo point in selling anything to the creeper... that is if you can get it for 10k from someone else. I mainly use the creeper to sell ebony, rubies, emeralds, etc. and other highley priced drinks to him. High priced weapons and soul gems i sell to others. And to correct myself before I think I got Almalexia's soul gem price and a Golden Saint's soul gem price confused. I belive Almalexia is 7 million.
