Are we alone in the universe?

@ hoofhearted4 ... And I take pride in responding to your line of thought

Btw, have you ever watched Carl Sagan and his brilliant series on what alien life forms would look like ?

Here's a link to a topic of his entitled "Advanced civilizations visiting earth" ..........

Though I find him interesting, I don't BELIEVE everything he says, nevertheless he poses some very interesting questions and makes some excellent observations.

ill have to check it out later, ive seen Carl Sagan's Cosmos, and there is a new one with Morgan Freeman as well.

as i said, there was a show, ive only ever seen it once and i wish i could find what it was, cause if it was a series i wouls have loved to have seen more, but it was about what life on other planets could have evolved into, depending on the terrain, the atmosphere, the gravity, etc. they even went into such detail as to the kind of sounds they thought the animals would make....i remember something along the lines of giant creatures that could fly in the sky due to low gravity or something, and massive creatures (way bigger then dinosaurs) that litterally were an entire landscape, that would move on the ground, and could have whole eco systems on their backs....but they also had regular small animals too, hunters and preditors....im gunna have to do some research so i can find it to post it. truely an interesting show, but it must have been 4-5 years ago it feels.

Well, there's a theory that claims that the universe never began because it has always existed. It's known as a causality loop, where the universe first "began" in a point outside space called the White Room. It is an infinite plane where anything can be done or created because the law of physics does not exist here. If one were to suddenly introduce a component of the law of physics into this room, it would create a brand new universe with it's own laws and what have you. Simply put, if the theory is correct, a universe is created by another one. Although it is difficult to see how this is possible, the Causality Loop theory is backed up by the fact that the universe is a sphere. A sphere, If anyone knows their Geometry; has no beginning or an end. It just simply exists. I personally believe in the theory. It makes the most sense to me.

That does make sense, but in that case how do you explain the Big Bang?

if the case of the first theory were true, the Big Bang wouldnt need an explanation because it wouldnt have occurred. the Big Bang is just a theory as well.

on an interesting side note. did you know Gravity is a theory as well??!!

its not so much the fact of gravity is theoretical, its what causes it.

we cant measure gravity, every other force has an atom, protons, neutrons, electrons, etc. but there is no gravitron. what causes gravity? what is it that is pulling us down? we dont know because its an invisible force and it really doesnt make sense.

I haven't read every post, and some one has probably mentioned it before. But if you haven't, and you're wondering about this topic, check out the drake equation.

The only problem is.. these "estimates" are not well developed. We don't have the technology to study all the biological life-forms in every star-system, so it makes it quite difficult to determine exact figures for all this.

Our universe is a big place, although the amount of matter in it is finite, but that amount of matter is enough for billions of galaxies each containing HUGE amounts of stars and each star may have a planetary system capable of sustaining life. Although it requires the planet to be in the right zone to support life as we know it, chances are there are indeed planets capable of supporting complex life and once the conditions are right, then it only takes a spark to ignite the flame of life and that flame is very resilient and ever evolving.

Has anyone heard of the theory that life actually originated inside comets? They speculate that there is liquid water inside comets and in that water life might develop and then be posited on a planed by comet dust when the comet makes a flyby. Some even speculate that new viruses may constantly be coming from outer space and infecting birds first and then jumping species to infect other forms of life.

But, my answer is YES, there has to be life out there and we might not be the first intelligent species in the universe. The universe is old enough for life to have evolved even before Earth and our solar system was formed and looking at the history of evolution, once a species acquires intelligence, there is a technological explosion. I mean look at the history of mankind, we have existed on this Earth a very short time and in that short time we have evolved from cavemen to the modern society, all in some thousands of years, a very short time considering the history of life on Earth.

Yes, about Big bang. If space expands as much in every point, as some scientists have proven, there can't be a starting point, because expanding happens everywhere at same time. Dark matter increases everywhere same amount and with same speed.

And did you know that speed of light can't be measured? Why? Because every time you measure something in space, it has already changed, because expanding, therefor any measurements done in space aren't correct.

Edit:

And about lifeforms, SETI has had already few weird signals from space, but because they never have repeated, they have been forgotten for some reason.

Here is the most known signal:
