hoofhearted4
Lol I'm a gamer IFC about my eyes but I appreciate your input. I was hoping to get some feedback from others hear what type they recommend. Maybe I'll make a separate thread with a poll see if I get any results from that
Rennn
LED or Plasma are far preferred to LCD for gaming. LCD ends up looking dull and grainy compared to Plasma or LED backlit. The thing is, plasma is cheaper but they tend not to last as long. I bought a 720p LED tv for my PS3, and I recommend you do the same. As you know, most PS3 games output at 720p anyway, so going to 1080p won't help image quality at all, it'll just drive up the price and add more blur. If you can find a large enough LED tv at 720p, I recommend that for PS3 gaming.
hoofhearted4
What about ps4? Will that not be 1080p? This 60" plasma for $650 just seems toGood to pass. Once I do research on the specific model that is lol But yea you addressed some things I was worried about Renn such as longevity. Thanks :)
Rennn
The PS4 will mostly output at 1080p, yes. If you plan on getting a PS4 soon, 1080p will be much, much better. I had a first generation plasma screen, so bear in mind that their longevity has probably improved since then. Mine lasted four or five years before the quality began to degrade noticeably. Eventually 720p was indistinguishable from 360p. Edited May 11, 2013 by Rennn
hoofhearted4
(Hope this doesn't show up twice as I thought I already typed this once but I'm on my iPod so idk lol) I've had my current TV for about 5 years now. I'll probably give it to my parents but if this new one only lasted 5 years ill probably be in the market for an OLED or something by then lol who knows. But I'm sure longevity has been worked on just like image burn. At least on the good TVs. Which is why I wanna go back and grab the model number so I can look up that specific TV and see if its good or not lol. And yes I plan on getting a PS4 at launch or soon thereafter at least :D
hoofhearted4
http://shop.panasonic.com/shop/model/TC-P55UT50 this is the TV i was looking at most recently. the one on sale in Wal Mart was gone today when I went back to grab the model number. oh well. the one linked to was around $850 on sale from Panasonic. though going back to link it, the price is no longer listed, so maybe they are sold out. that said, I remeber seeing the same TV in other places for a similar price so who knows. wont be for another couple weeks to a month before id feel comfortable spending that much money on something (like to have a good amount saved up passed the amount so i dont completely drain my bank account. and since i only get paid every 2 weeks, it can take extra long not only to save up for something, but saving up passed that lol) but yea. ive done a lot of research. I really do like what im hearing about Plasma. especially Panasonic. the one new thing that has popped up is apparently Plasmas have a buzzing noise? which can either be loud or not noticeable depending on the quality of the TV? Renn can you comment on this at all having owned a Plasma?

Renn can you comment on this at all having owned a Plasma? I don't know if I would have described it as buzzing... More like humming. It was so faint that it was virtually inaudible, even without a game or movie playing. No idea how much it varies by model.
FMod
doesnt need to be 3D (dont care in the least for 3D)You're missing out on quite a bit. 3D on a small screen - anything up to 32" - is a gimmick. It doesn't look natural or volumetric, it just looks like the display has two layers of glass and cardboard cutouts are placed on different sides of either. Stereo perspective effects are broken. Starting with 40"-52", it's kind of possible to get into stereo picture, but peripheral vision and display crosstalk interfere with the illusion. At 55"-65", display size begins to overcome these limitations and just work. You're buying a plasma, which are better for "3D" than LCD - almost no crosstalk. You have a darkened room, which means no peripheral vision. If there is ever a place to try out stereo displays, it's yours.
JimboUK
How far will you be sitting from it? that's the factor you should use when deciding on size.
hoofhearted4
like 5-6ft maybe? lol not very far. my room is a rectangle and the TV is on one wall and my couch is on the other. shortest distance. actually ill most likely be getting a different one then i listed. still Panasonic Plasma. 50" TC-P50S60. $700 at Sears, might be able to get it cheaper (my GF is an ex employee. shes gunna see if she cant pull some strings and get me a discount. but im not getting my hopes up) i could go up so the TC-P50ST60 which is $1000. the only difference is slightly better picture (which in all honesty i probably wouldnt notice) and the ST is 3D (though its not the best from reviews ive read) and honestly, the 3D just isnt worth the extra $300 imo. i just do not care about 3D. went and saw Iron Man 3 in IMAX 3D the other day and didnt care for it at all (the 3D that is. movie was amazing lol) actually watched the first 30 minutes or so without my glasses. there were some cool effects and all, but i dont feel like it added to the movie. i dont feel like it was any better because it was in 3D. i would have been just as happy to have seen it in normal 2D in all honesty. unless someone can convince me otherwise, i just dont see paying the extra $300+ for a 3D capable TV.
