Ethxxn
I know that spawning a s#*! ton of entities uses more DRAM, but I'm not sure if the game is being limited by my CPU (R5 3600) or GPU (GTX 1650). I know that 4gb of VRAM is just barely enough to run med texture packs, but I'm really getting annoyed with dealing with out of memory errors by reorganizing my load order using this guide. Can anybody clarify what needs to be done here?
ZackBlastov
Hi 16Gb is the sweet spot for price/performance on modern PCs. Adding RAM does give a speed boost to the PC but after 16Gb you'll only get a couple of percent, so more than that is only of any benefit to video editors and the like. You probably won't see any benefits at all in FNV, even when using something like 4GB Enabler. You're best off checking what mods you have installed. Better New Vegas, for example, gave me a ton of Out of Memory errors and crashes. Currently I have 16GB DRAM and 3GB VRAM and am getting maxed out frame rates with a whole load of texture mods installed.I stay well away from 4K textures though... :smile:What I'd recommend (if you haven't already) check out Tick Fix https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/66537 it has some options that boosted my performance hugely. z Edited April 16, 2021 by ZackBlastov
M48A5
Use LOOT to set your load order instead of a guide written over four years age. Use the FNV 4GB Patcher so that the game will use more than the default 2GB. Use ENBoost to cut down on RAM usage and increase VRAM use. Use the FNV Mod Limit Fix. dubiousintent
The game code itself is unable to address memory beyond 4GB, which is why that is the limit. If you are using a video adapter built into the motherboard, adding "System DRAM" will make some more memory available for video, though you may need to use some software (such as ENBoost) to allocate more of the system RAM to the video pipeline. (I agree with the above comment about 16GB being the "sweet spot" of system RAM for most gamers. Though I also subscribe to the axiom: "You can never have too much RAM or disk space within the constraints of your budget." Given the choice between a faster CPU and more of either, the CPU loses until the sweet spot is reached.) VRAM (dedicated memory used by the video adapter card) is not something I have ever heard of being "upgradeable" except by purchasing a different replacement video adapter. "Addon" video adapters have their own CPUs, and so can avoid the RAM, speed, and bandwidth limitations of the motherboard for the actual graphics processing. Edit: Given the implications of your question, I would recommend you look into using an "addon" video card to replace any built-in video chip instead of more than 16GB of system RAM. -Dubious- Edited April 16, 2021 by dubiousintent
JimboUK
"spawning a s*** ton of entities" is going to slow your game down no matter what hardware you're using, it's a limitation of the engine. That said 16GB is the sweet spot, you only need more for video editing and that kind of thing.
