Monitor/Video card for High Def?

I have seen some beautiful screenshots that I can only assume were taken while playing in High Definition, as well as some mods that require a 4096X4096 resolution. How does one achieve that? I have a fairly high end video card (nVidia 9800GTX with 512MB VRAM) and a fairly new monitor, but the best I can do is nowhere near that.

this is not the screen resolution.

For the same screen resolution a higher texture resolution will display better and more detailed.

Edit: Sorry, I misunderstood you above. verify if the screenshot displays the resolution at which it was take. Chances are they were done in 'monstrous' monitors with upadupa high end quad SLI/Crossfire multicore rig, incredible forced AA and unholy AF rates. Ah, of course all this on High Definition monitors, indeed.

Ahh, so a higher TEXTURE resolution is not the same....cool! Thanks! Now I can try some of those High Def graphics mods I keep avoiding.

It makes sense now, because how nice a screenshot looks shouldn't depend on the monitor but on the internal resolution of the game. Ii was just concerned that the monitor would limit the internal resolution, or the video card (which it will - if you have a low end card with low memory then higher rez is not possible or is possible with incredible lag and possible crashes). It was just that I saw 4096X4096 and thought that meant a screen resolution. Curse me for the n00b that I am.

  • 2 weeks later...

I have 8000GT 1 GB and Samsung 22 HD

Eats oblivion like there is nothing to it... Same goes for witcher which is an HD game. The only time I have a problem is in Medieval total war 2 you have to be pushing 6000 units with all the setting running on high.
