Harabec Weathers
OOOOkkkk sooooo Gotta let out a couple things. First on my hit list is the latest patch. -Is it just me or does it seem like the lastest patch has in fact NOT improved gameplay? I reviewed all of the suppossed bugfixes and I never experienced a single one personally. But thats just me and the same may not apply to everyone. Im pretty sure its not my minds playing tricks on me but toally random CTDs occur ALL the time with this new patch. Game performance has decreased (stutters, and crap like that). Im tempted to uninstall and reinstall the game with no patched :D yay for playability! Next on the rant hitlist. Im not really feeling the whole Beth and Microsoft dealio thing going on. Achievements and all, thats pretty cool. Having the expansion packs (DLC or whatever you wanna call it) only available through LIVE seens kinds....silly. I dont like the whole LIVE personally. Maybe its the patch that I got from LIVE for Fallout has decreased the performance as previously stated. Im not firecting any hate to Beth or Microsoft, I just dont really care for LIVE and how the extra content distribution is being handled. Beth Ive always been a stalwart fan of your works, Daggerfall, Morrowind, Oblivion, and Fallout (ALL of them are sooooooo good) so kudos for the games. But I think Microsoft should just stick with their unwavering Xbox fans (its not theres no one playing Xbox or something) Every game Ive bought that Micrsoft has produced has been one of those, "excitement + play through = letdown" sort of situations. PC titles such as Mass Effect, Gears of War, Fable have ALL been almost unplayable imo. Mass Effect was riddled with CTDs, full system lock ups, wierd and unsolved bugs. Gears wouldnt even work unless I went into my Device manager and disabled my Dual Channel PCI IDE Control. Even after that the game stopped working entirely after I downloaded the LIVE patch for Gears. So needless to say that was a HUGE waste of time, money, and effort. Sorry but its true. Fable....well fable was well.....fable. Short, uninteresting. Ultimately I give it an "ehhhh" at best. BUT I digress (big time lol) Anyways, ummm yea. So im not hating one anyone persay...Im just saying, not really excited about too much with the DLC and all that jazz. Kudos for the game, not so kudos for the LIVE alliance. Beth, you guys kick but! Please keep it that way :D
frankc
I've experienced fewer CTD since the patch (knock wood). The VATS slowdown is terrible, but I only use VATs on "cheese" enemies: quaketastic missile launchers and mirelurks - so that doesn't ruin my gameplay. But GFWL... wtf. Is 360 distribution really worth putting up with that sort of mutual suicide pact with Microsoft? Consumers hate Live, even people with nothing against Microsoft hate Live. Yea about the whole CTD thing, Im probably gonna just re-install and leave unpatched. Probably gonna totally remove the LIVE stuff too. Anyways, I agree my friend, LIVE...no good. No good at all. Michlo
*sigh* I wouldn't know. As you may have read in my other post, I've been testing out Windows 7. I really like it but since Creative still hasn't given us an updated patch to restore our surround sound and I couldn't get Fallout 3 working properly with it anyway, this past weekend I formatted and reverted to Vista 64. I'm going to test out the W7 on my e-mail / browsing / media box instead. Well last night I finally got around to re-installing Fallout 3 and I installed the latest patch. Well, imagine my surprise when I found that even without any mods, I get the launcher, hit start and then CTD! :( I don't know what the hell to try next other than reinstalling and NOT putting in the latest patch as it is the only thing different from before I went to W7. I have the latest nVidia and Creative drivers and again, have tried with absolutely no mods at all (since I'm starting over anyway). Bah. Edit - this latest patch didn't force the use of Live or anything snarky like that did it? Hmm, let me go hunt around.
Skotte
1.1 does install live I know this because when I installed Fallout I went by this thread's method -> http://www.bethsoft.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=908657 so it wasn't able to install LIVE with the game & after I patched to 1.1 I saw live was installed so I uninstalled it. which broke the game till I re-patched it. I have since kicked LIVE off the HD & used Timeslip's "Dummy" DLL which can be obtained here -> http://timeslip.chorrol.com/

Emmine
GFWL seems fine to me. Does what it says on the tin. I like it much better than steam.
Skotte
GFWL seems fine to me. Does what it says on the tin. I like it much better than steam. It's fine that you like it but being a "broadband required" service for me being on dial-up it's useless so I just couldn't justify leaving it on my system. frankc
GFWL seems fine to me. Does what it says on the tin. I like it much better than steam. Stardock and Steam both manage to sell me games directly, GFWL requires points that are sold in bundle sizes that almost guarantee that some amount of unused credit will remain locked up in their system. Also, I've never had Steam or Stardock crash my system or heard of it happening to anyone else.
