Twiggy243
Hey guys, Alright, so I've been modding the fallouts and oblivion/skyrim for quite a while now, and have only a couple times been so stumped as of what do with the current issue I have. I run some somewhat specific mods for the appearance of my character, because I re-created her from a different game. Before I go on, I'd like to say I'm on a different computer than the one the mods are installed on, so if you guys have any specific questions after reading this, please ask and I will give you whatever you need to know to help me out. Well, I use a specific hair, one that didn't come in a pack, just by itself, plus Bellas Better Females, and another face mod which I unfortunately cannot remember. My problems generally started when I accidentally disabled every skyrim mod I had enabled, which wasn't a lot of fun because, I admit, I am very unorganized with my mods, so many mods in my mod manager are actually ones I don't use. So I had to go through a couple hundred or so mods and try and accurately pick the correct mods. I got it for the most part, but it still became a factor that made things difficult. Now, heres where my immediate problem happened (or so I believe). I downloaded an update of ApachiiSkyHair, and since my friend and I just wanted to see how Coverwomen looked, we downloaded that too. I made a backup of my files at the time, so I wasn't worried. I didn't like the way Coverwomen made my character look, I went back and put in the backups of my appearance mods. It didn't work, to say the least. Another thing is that ApachiiSkyHairs replaced that hair (something I'd anticipated, but stupidly I did not make a back up of the specific hair I use). So for whatever reason Skyrim decided to keep the Coverwomen appearance, I suspect that when I made the backup of the previous appearance I did something wrong. I also noticed that my body mod seemed to have vanished, leaving that stretched creepy looking appearance. So I re-installed Calientes body mod with NMM. It still didn't work. And even more problems appeared. Since my specific character uses pink hair, I needed more than the base colors, so a while back I downloaded Extended Slider Colors. Now it seems that ApachiiSkyHair (and maybe other hair mods) and/or CBBE and/or Extended Slider Colors are conflicting. I know that all of that is a lot to take in, and I have no idea if my hypothesis on all of that is even correct. But it seems that messing with extended slider colors seems to cause CTDs, so I'm choosing between CTD's and my character who's appearance I basically ruined by being a total idiot. The hair mods are all out of whack, my previously mentioned specific hair is missing, the body mods are not working, and what I believe to be Extended Slider Colors is crashing the game (at times) So I know that what I just is a total clusterf*#@, and I really am sorry. I'm sure that just about anybody willing to help me is going to need emphasis on these problems/a list of my mods etc. That is absolutely fine, if you think there is any chance in the world you can help me please do, I really am stuck on this, and have been just testing potential ideas for hours. I really, really appreciate any help you guys can possibly give me, successful or not.
Jeir
You can use Wrye Bash to find out the mods a certain save is using. They appear on the side in the 'Saves' tab. Do you have any screenshots of your character with the 'unique hair'? It would help with finding that particular mod. That ApachiiSkyHair replaced the 'unique hair' is extremely unlikely, I'm afraid, unless said hair has the exact same file structure (up to and including being in the 'Apachii' folders). I really am not sure what's going on there. Are you using a custom race with your character? Often they have their own folders, and require you to manually place files to get them to take effect. This could explain why the face textures and body mod aren't working. You may wish to use this mod if you have a large number of hairstyles. At least, if the crashing occurs during character creation. Just so you know, CBBE and SkyHair work fine. Apachii herself is a CBBE user, after all. =) Posting a BOSS log would be a good idea (recognised and unrecognised) to help narrow down issues. The good news is, I found the hair, so I will be fine on that note. I don't use a custom race for this character, she's a Breton. I have a couple custom races installed, however, and while one of them is using CBBE and still has those stretched textures, the other race mod is using its own body, so it actually is pretty much fine. I think I might've narrowed down my issue a little bit, but I still think that the Extended Slider Colors mod has something to do with it. If I can figure out what the other face mod I used besides Bella's Better Females, I think I'll feel much better about this whole issue. Once I get back to that computer I'll mess with the suggestions you made, thank you for your help!
Twiggy243
Alright, I think I fixed it. I re-downloaded the hair, put it in, and it worked. I put in Bella's Better Females, though I don't know where the other mod I used is (but for now, thats fine). Then I uninstalled CBBE and reinstalled it, which also caused me to realize I hadn't installed it entirely properly (it needs a little more in-depth installation than I read through, because I'm an idiot) and it worked. When I launched skyrim, even with apachii hairs, it worked. No CTD or anything. The only thing is that my character's face doesn't look identical to before, but that's because of the missing other face mod, but it still looks great. My character still looks like the one I modeled her after, so it looks to me like my problems are solved. Not as hard as I thought after all. Thank you for your help! lowtrap
Just a little hint: If you ever deactivate all mods at once, have a bunch of other mods that have been inactive and you can't remember which are which, just start BOSS GUI, click 'View BOSS Log', which is the button right at the bottom, and voila - you got a list of all the mods that had currently been set as active.
