Crashing in V.A.T.S. after patch 1.1.0.35

Fallout was running great before the patch, not the cursor is running ramped in the menus and VATS is shot. I found a thread to bring the cursor back to its normal speed, but I can't find anything to fix the VATS problem, besides reinstalling Fallout and keeping it unpatched.

VATS works only once in a while, but most of the time, it pauses for a few seconds before bringing up my targeting options, and if it don't crash there, it crashes while doing the slow mo action type action sequences. Anyone else have this problem?

I only have one mod running also, GNRExtended.

Same issue. I'm fairly new to the modding side of this game as I enjoyed playing through it and covering as much as possible before even thinking to look for patches.

I patched to 1.5 via the official site and since then I couldn't load my save files. So I uninstalled and found this nifty site.

After reading up on everything and finding that the Unofficial patch and the fake patch are supposedly better than the official patches, I tried them... however now I have the above stated problem.

I'm running a 2.2GHZ AmD OC'd at 7% with an icy cool 9800GTX+ and 3 gigs of matching DDR2 800mhz Crucial Ballistix.

I'm sure quite a few people are having these issues, and I've continued to have this issue unless I downgrade all the way the basic install file.

Thanks for any support.

Well, really difficult...

I for myself use Patch 1.5 and I'm very pleased with.

It improves the game a lot:

-VATS is fixed

-AI is improved

-the game runs much smoother

-even the radio stations seems to run better ...

Maybe it is just me, but I think Bethesda reworked the whole exe well and it would be a Masterpiece if there were not these nasty bugs with many of the user made *.esp plugins.

Long story short:

Yes, it is possible to manage Patch 1.5 to work with user made Mods ---> use FO3Edit

Download @ Fallout3Nexus

And finally I still hope that Bethesda will fix these Bug until the Game of the Year Edition will be released

Problem resolved.

I used the EVGA Precision tool and played with my settings a bit. Maxed out my card to the brink of what would be Stable and tried again. Been playing Fallout 3 for 2 days now without a single crash other than when I goof up on a mod. No blue screens, no lag, no V.A.T.S issues. Nothing.

Checking my settings before, I was pushing the Shader Clock a tad bit too high and it was tossing my Vid Card out of a stable range. Now that it's fixed and I've re-adjusted everything, she runs like a charm.

This could be a common issue with other setups?

Clocking/Setting Vid Card confics too high always tends to Crash on stress.

Since I stopped clocking I doesn't have such problems anymore.

Sure, depends on the card ...

... i second that, i have old 8800 gtx, clocked to 115%. sometimes, my FO3 crashes to desktop without any warning, yesterday i got even BSOD - i suspect the card to get overheated, although it's stable with this setting in all tests and other games, including Crysis for example...

i might be due to large amount of textures to be loaded and processed, so the throughput is too "thin" to handle it correctly. didn't try to disable OC though, cause the few FPS made by OC are needed :)
