Placing images in Description field of mod attributes

Hello,

I have been wanting to dress up my readme for the description field by adding images and colored text. I have seen this done on several mods but have not been successful using Word, notepad, wordpad, or ultraedit. Is there a tutorial for this or a specific editor that works?

Thanks,

mrbarista

The system used for formatting and other features inside posts on IP.Board forums is called BBCode.

It's somewhat similar to HTML but limited to only a few select features. Additionally not all BBCode tags will work on all Nexus sites or the forums.

There's a documentation around for which BBCode tags will work and which won't, but I can't seem to find it right now.

Where do the image files have to reside to access them with the bbcode?

Basically 'anywhere' out on the web is just fine. Usually people upload their images to some free image share hosts, or even a private host of their own, like Dropbox or similar, and then refer to them from their posts, descriptions and the like through the "img" tags. You can also upload an image right to the Nexus imageshare and refer to this one from your description, but this will make your description image accessible outside of context by everyone as well, of course.

If you upload to your own Imageshare gallery here at Nexus you can upload it as a hidden file so no one can see it without a link, then when the link is called by the bbcode in your desription page it will be visible to everyone viewing that page. Only drawback is the limit of 5 uploads per day. You can also upload to your mod's gallery without limitation but you can't hide it there, which isn't so good if you want to use thumbnails.

edit: Premium members have no upload limit for pictures iirc, so maybe that would be the way to go.
