greentea101
After my previous post, I did some Googling about this, out of curiosity. It seems that MMOs and some multiplayer games benefit from SSD (many of them greatly), and those are exactly the kind of games I don't play. I only play single player games, with the exception of Starcraft 2. For these single player games (like Skyrim), I haven't seen any significant improvement, and my Google search largely confirmed that. System configuration must play a role too, but the type of games you're playing is probably more important.
onson
I guess what I'm really trying to figure out is will the performance be different if the OS and Skyrim are on the SSD or if just sticking Skyrim on the SSD will achieve the same result. I stuck just Skyrim on the SSD but really didn't see much difference. So now I'm gonna go with just putting both on SSD. only bad thing with a clean install is it usually speeds up everything anyway so I won't really know if the improvement is solely from this method or not. I'm sure there is some performance hampering crap floating around my pc somewhere. Then there is the factor of me not really having a complete understanding of what the hell I'm doing anyway. With computers there is never a simple answer. guess we will wait and see
greentea101
You have to put the OS on the SSD. The OS benefits the most from the SSD, and it will not slow down the games (if anything, it will help). It would be a crime to do otherwise. I am literally going to call the police on you if I hear you put the OS on hard disk.
perrob
I think the only true answer is 'it depends', sorry! If you're running skyrim without big texture packs (inc official HD) then it's unlikely you'll see a huge performance leap switching Skyrim to the SSD. On the other hand, switching your OS to the SSD will definitely improve windows boot time! If you don't want to reinstall windows just yet, you could try moving the Windows swap file to the SSD along with Skyrim. That should boost general performance somewhat too. For me, with lots of big texture packs installed, my SSD makes a big difference to load times. It's not a placebo effect: I have 5 skyrim installs, 2 on the SSD and 3 on HD; the difference is annoying! :)
greentea101
There's no such thing as "one true answer", and it's a given that every case is unique.
onson
Started reinstall last last night. This is something criminals should be forced to do to repay their debt to society. Windows updates. Kill me now.
