Dragon Age: Prelude to Chaos

Recommended Posts

Welcome to the Discussion thread for the Dragon Age: Prelude to Chaos. Here you can post character sheets and pictures/drawings and discuss the RP and other OOC things.

Please no OOC posts in the roleplay itself!

Dragon Age: Prelude to Chaos is a Dragon Age-based roleplay. You may know this from BioWare's roleplaying games Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age II and from the novels like Dragon Age: Asunder, Dragon Age: The Calling and Dragon Age: The Stolen Throne.

The roleplay is set in 9:37 Dragon, several weeks after the destruction of Kirkwall's Chantry and The Battle of Kirkwall.

To help people understand what's happening in Thedas now and what happened during the Fifth Blight and Hawke's rise in power, I had decided to make the Story Summary of the events:

Dragon Age: Origins - Alistair is the King of Ferelden, mages in the Ferelden Circle of Magi were saved, the werewolf curse cured, Anvil of the Void destroyed, Loghain killed in the Landsmeet, Andraste's ashes preserved, Morrigan's ritual preformed, the Warden helped to fight off the undead in Redcliffe, elves in the Alienage freed from the Tevinter slavers.

Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening - Every possible recruit has been recruited into the Grey Wardens, Vigil's Keep fully upgraded, the Architect slain, Amaranthine saved.

Dragon Age 2 - Hawke sided with the mages, Carver became the Grey Warden, Anders spared, Danarius killed, Hawke took the responsibility of Merrill's actions on Sundermount and the Sabrae clan was not slaughtered, Hawke dueled the Arishok and Isabela came back with the Tome of Koslun, Aveline got married.

Dragon Age 2: Legacy - Corypheus dead, Hawke sided with Larius.

Dragon Age 2: Mark of the Assassin - Hawke agreed to help Tallis.

Here are some guidelines originally made by Lisnpuppy to help you improve your roleplaying experience.

OK this is a copy/paste of some guidelines I made up in a MMO I was doing. Not all applies to forum RP but I thought this could help us and for the future. These are not written in stone and can be discussed. Also the relationship RP stuff is really more MMO for long term RP (I have been RPing with some people for 2-3 years now.) Anyway if you have questions let me know.

1) Have fun. If you are doing something, . If you are finding yourself always irritated or unhappy...then why are you here. Figure out the issue (and you know, it MAY just be you *grin*) or go do something else.

2) Never, ever forget the line between RP In Character and Out of Character and don't cross it. It is easy..especially when you have particularly intense RP to take things personally. Don't....99% of the time it isn't all about you. Even in times when perhaps (say guildies) you are Rping with someone you do not care for OOC....don't try to put over every single roleplay they engage with you...that its personal. Chances are very good it isn't. So take a time out, step out of the RP or communicate your issues OOC.

3) Start with a well made character. Have a decent background and personality to make your RP more fun and easier. Your character doesn't have to be set in stone. But having a solidly made character is important or your RP may peeter out. Have your character have likes/dislikes, goals, dreams, an arch-enemy....this will help you flesh them out even more and bring them to life.

4) Relationship RP should be the ICING not the CAKE! I am sure we all have (or will) have our characters involved in an IC relationship. However...if you make the mistake of building all your RP around this person then you won't have anything you can do with anyone else or when your RP partner is not online. Make it a side-quest if you will...not the main one.

5) You have to give a little to get a little. We all have RP storylines in which we want others to engage. That is what makes it fun, right? But if you find a friend knee-deep in a RP of their own..don't come in and hijack the RP for yourself...or refuse to participate because its not all about YOU. Have fun and throw your lot in with them! Trust me...when your time comes around...people will remember that you play well with others. Otherwise...be willing to face a lot of folks disappearing when you have something you wish to do.

6) Don't be a MaryJane! I have to admit in the games I play I am not a lore-nerd....so I don't always get it right. But don't decide that you are going to be a half-dragon or the long-lost illegitimate son of the King of Whoville. It doesn't work, it probably isn't in the lore anywhere...and it will lead only to your RP downfall. Eventually your “special” character will begin to dominate everyone else and their RP. No one will want to play with you...so make your character special in other ways.

7) No godmoding!! Remember..you only control YOUR character and not others. When you RP try not to take over the actions of other Rpers.

For example: Jon casts a frostbolt at Matt knocking him back into the wall and breaking his arms.

Instead try: Jon cast a frostbolt hoping to hit Matt and knocking him out of the way.

This allows the other player to take action. You can have decided before hand how this will go out. You can roll to see what actions happen or how bad an injury is (I am sure there will be others writing about RP fighting and the like somewhere else *hinthint*. Just remember...if you don't leave a way for the other person to respond...it isn't RP and you will find yourself bored quickly.

Soap Opera-ing. Many of us have wanted to play are character as crazy, a totally badass or having an illness or amnesia. That can all be valid and fun stories. The doom is in taking it too far or too long. These kind of stories ultimately leave little RP options for those around you. Always have movement and a goal in your RP...otherwise it goes nowhere.

9) Be willing to RP with anyone, anytime. Just because you are in a guild or Rping with a friend doesn't mean you can't include others. Walk-Up RP can lead to great things...or simply pass the time for a bit. If others don't RP EXACTLY like you...no sweat. Perhaps they are new and need some gentle guidance. So be open to everything!

10) Communication is the key. Always establish your RP boundaries when you are Rping with someone long-term. If you don't like swearing...or a particular kind of violence...or if you will take anything coming down the pike! Let others know. It avoids awkward and unpleasant conversations later.

And a few more rules, specific to this RP.

11) To avoid any unpleasantries and arguments as well as being fair to everyone, roleplaying as the Hero of Ferelden and/or Champion of Kirkwall is not allowed.

12) Unlike in the previous Dragon Age RP, roleplaying as characters from the game and novels is not allowed.

13) Being a Grey Warden is allowed, but not everyone will be able to be one. Grey Wardens are not swarming with recruits after all. Joinings will be possible if an opportunity will present itself.

14) Rulers of the cities or anyone else who has duties that takes up most of their time like Knight-Commanders and Grand Clerics are not allowed. It doesn't make sense if the character of such important positions are at the same time adventurers.

15) Teleportation isn't allowed. It can get too OP quickly and there's no such thing in Dragon Age universe.

16) No strong sexual content, please. It's all fine and good if your character is in a relationship but please keep the graphic stuff behind the closed doors.

These guidelines won't be enforced strictly unless the serious problem will raise its ugly head. I will enforse the rules if necessary.

For those who are interested in joining but have no knowledge about DA universe, please click the spoiler tag.

Thedas - the only known continent of Dragon Age universe. Link.

Races: Humans, Elves, Dwarves, Kossith.

Grey Wardens, Darkspawn and the Blight.

The Chantry, Templar Order, Seekers of Truth and Mages.

The Qun, Maker and Elven pantheon.

Classes: there are three classes available in the Dragon Age games: warriors, rogues and mages. Each class in Origins had four unlockable specializations, Awakening (expansion of Dragon Age: Origins) added two more specializations for each class. Dragon Age II introduced a brand new specialization for mages.

Warrior: Berserker, Templar, Champion, Reaver, Spirit Warrior and Guardian.

Rogue: Assassin, Bard, Duelist, Ranger, Legionnaire Scout and Shadow.

Mage: Arcane Warrior, Blood Mage, Shapeshifter, Spirit Healer, Battlemage and Force Mage.

Note: I skipped the Keeper specialization for mages because despite how it was in the game only the Dalish elves have Keepers and the Keepers stay with their clan as they are the leaders of the clan.

Note 2: Dwarves cannot be mages.

Note 3: In Dragon Age 2 some specializations are restricted to certain characters. I have decided to let people use Infiltrator (Tallis) and Swashbuckler (Isabela) specializations as they are not the causes of something extremely unusual like Fenris's lyrium markings or Anders's case.

Welcome to the RP and have fun! When you're ready head to the RP, here.

Here are my sheets, I've been looking forward to this

GENERAL INFORMATION:
Name: Isadora Vass
Gender: Female
Race: Human

Age: Unknown

Class: Mage (blood mage)

Alignment: Neutral

APPEARANCE:

Height: 5’10”

Weight: Good luck trying to get that out of her.

Hair: Her hair is a platinum blonde of sorts, shot with a streak of black that runs from root to tip.

Eyes: Deep blue.

Skin: A rather pale shade of white, although not quite dipping into the regions of alabaster, it is paler than most.

Handedness: Right.

Scars/Tattoos: She has a large scar in the centre of her palm that is constantly re-opened when she cuts herself to use Blood magic, there is also a multitude of scars up her arms, and one on her stomach, from a deep dagger wound inflicted to release a particularly powerful spell.

Possessing but one tattoo it encompasses the large majority of her back. A rather grim image it is that of her spins and ribs, made to give the impression her back is skeletal.

General physical description: Taller than average for a human woman, Isadora is all legs, said limbs making up well over half of her height. She has a long torso, neck, and arms, with spindly fingers and a generally emaciated look, however her musculature is tight and suitable toned. She has a square jaw and sunken cheeks, high cheekbones and well-spaced, feline-like eyes, with long thin eyebrows to frame them.

Voice: Deep, well-spoken and silvery.

Clothing/Armor: Her outfit serves to offer her some protection against threats that manage to get close to her in the fact it is primarily crafted from leather. Skin-tight black leather clings to her legs, atop which a pair of fine Orlesian leather heeled boots protect her feet. Her upper body is protected by a leather corseted bodice and sleeves. From the base of the corset a long leather train and extends to floor level, dragging along the blood mage as she walks. Atop her outfit she dons a large black fur coat, it’s density not only keeps her warm, but serves to hinder blades should they attempt to cut through the material.

Weapons: Arcane and primarily Blood magic serve as her first port of call, and are channelled through her bladed staff, Vass’s retribution, a family heirloom corrupted to serve her needs as a blood mage.

Visual appearance: http://s.mcstatic.com/thumb/7422135/20358751/4/flash_player/0/1/vogue_ru_cruella_directed_by_jason_kibbler.jpg

PERSONALITY:

General personality traits: Incredibly sarcastic, pessimistic, unsociable and distrustful, Isadora does not trust people as far as she can throw them, and expects the same. Life as a maleficarum has made her cold and detached from normal human emotion, and upon witnessing things that would usually provoke tears or other forms of intense emotion, nothing stirs within the rather numb heart of Isadora. She has seen a lot of blood and other horrors, many inflicted by her own hand to Templars, she is not in the slightest squeamish in any way shape or form, and would gladly dive to the bottom of a well full of human remains if it meant she would survive another day. Ending life is yet another aspect she holds no qualms about committing, If she has to kill, she will, and whomever is on the receiving end, well that is hardly her concern.

Despite her cold and survivalist nature, she is by no means an evil child-murdering psychopath as the Templars brand all Blood Mages, she strives for freedom and a world without the chains of the Templar order, whatever the cost may be. But her own survival is her one and only true cause.

Likes: Feeling safe, destroying Templars, Advancing her magical abilities, quiet.

Dislikes: Templars, Irritating people, crowded areas, people who ask to many questions, people who persist to speak to her even after being politely told to shut their mouths. People in general.

Fears: Being caught by the Templar order.

Attitudes towards friends/strangers: She generally keeps away from people unless there is either something in it for her, or she feels whatever it is they are doing worthy of her attention. Even then she keeps her distance and only interjects when she deems amusing.

Opinion of the world: She believes that the world is a terrible place full of evil in the form of prejudice and discrimination towards those of a magical nature, but can appreciate its beauties, whatever may remain.

HISTORY:

Past: Her past is deliberately hazy for her own protection, and while she never reveals any intimate details, it is clear enough she was once a circle mage that grew tired of the gilded prison she was forced to live in, and made a pact with a demon to secure the secrets of Blood Magic. After killing those who found out about it and attempted to apprehend her, she has been sticking to the art of surviving since then, partaking in the war whenever an opportunity presents itself to destroy Templar oppression.

Birthplace: Unknown

Family/Relationships: She has two blood brothers, and one step brother, all removed from her life for the most part.

Friends: She has none.

Enemies: The Templars and the Chantry.

GENERAL INFORMATION:

Name: Countess Agathe De La Fontaine
Gender: female

Race: human

Age: 42

Class: Spirit warrior

Occupation: Exiled Countess

APPEARANCE:

Height: 5’10”

Weight: 58kg

Hair: silver, it is kept in a short style that requires little upkeep aside from washing.

Eyes: grey

Skin: pale white

Handedness: right

Scars/Tattoos: none of note

General Physical Description: Having aged incredibly well due to her active lifestyle and healthy choices, Agathe is tall, lithe, and in possession of ample assets and a voluptuous body, largely unchanged by time. Her face is rather symmetrical and soft, high cheekbones and a strong jaw, but despite this her features still have a soft edge to them. She has large expressive eyes and full lips, favouring a lot of makeup in any situation, her chosen colour a light shade of reddish purple, which she applies to her lips and above her eyes.

Voice: Deep for a woman, but decidedly sultry and exotic, with subtle hints of her homeland in some of the words she pronounces, her accent is that of the upper class, crisp, clear, assertive and dominating. When angered it deepens further so she may hiss through her teeth or cry from her throat.

Disabilities: Using her connection with the fade often leaves voices adrift in her mind, and her thoughts subject to the mercy of the spirits, be them good or evil she is often plagued with migraines in moments she could do without them.

Clothing/Armor: Flamboyant as the customs of her home decree, her attire is both protective and stylish in an almost equal measure, however she favours the latter over the former. Dyed leather greaves of a deep purple, with snakeskin panels cover her legs, and on her feet a pair of fine, lightly heeled leather boots with a golden cap. Beneath the tailed white and purple jacket she wears is a silver breastplate styled like a corset, pushing up her cleavage whilst protecting her organs. Around her neck she wears an ornate lace choker with a diamond pendant attached, in her ears effigy’s of roses.

Weapons:

Visual Appearance: I drew inspiration for her looks from Ivy, so something like this bar the differences detailed in her outfit:
http://download.gamespotcdn.net/d4/user_images/2021/scvivybyring.jpg

PERSONALITY:
General Personality Traits: A rather outgoing and optimistic individual, she is flirtatious to a harmless extent, and is wise from years of experience, She is a loyal servitor and mothering figure to her friends, and a fierce and deadly enemy to her foes.

Likes: Fashions of various lands, battle, the fade, friendship, snakes, her blade.

Dislikes: racists, generally negative towards Templars, darkspawn, bandits, criminals.

Fears: Being found by the agents of her family.

Attitudes towards friends/strangers: She is cold to most and treats others with suspicion, but is quick to break the ice should she feel those around her are of no immediate danger.

Opinion of the world: She believes that a lot is out of balance in the world in it’s current state, and hopes one day to see it repaired.

HISTORY:

Past: Born into the nobility of Orlais, she was a countess before her thirteenth birthday, and enjoyed all the privileges of her rank in what is uneventful years of her life simply spent in court (which I’m sure no-one wants to read about) That was of course until after many years, her abilities as a Spirit warrior were discovered by her husband, who thought she was an abomination, or some kind of demon. Doubtless to say she fled her home and ended up in Ferelden about ten years prior to the destruction of the Chantry. (apologies for the short history… I may add to it later, or simply expand IC)

Birthplace: Orlais.

Family/Relationships: Her husband.

Friends: She has a few here and there.

Enemies: Numerous.

Oooh, nice to see this up  My paranoid little elf is back ^^

GENERAL INFORMATION:
Name: Alalia Talelwa
Gender: Female
Race: elf

Occupation: healer

Age: 27

Class: Mage (shapeshifter)

Alignment: Neutral

APPEARANCE:

Height:
5'5" (165 cm)

Weight: 50 kg (110 lbs)

Hair: Ginger, curly, wild and reaches half of her back

Eyes: blue

Skin: fair

Handedness: left

Scars/Tattoos: none

General physical description: She looks at least few years older than she really is because she doesn't really care about her appearance, more concerned about her safety and survival. However, she cannot, by any standard, be called unattractive, even though she has very little self-confidence and tries to hide her face and ears most of the time. As any elf, Alalia has a pettite body and is physically weak, which she makes up with strong willpower and occasional cunningness. Other than her wavy ginger hair and a beauty mark below her right corner of upper lip, Alalia could be easily confused with almost every other elf.

Voice: Calm, leaning towards deep rather than high pitched. She always makes pauses when speaking and can remain silent for a long time before replying, making others around her think she's ignoring them, when she just likes to take her time rather than to regret saying something later.

Clothing/Armor: Commoner clothing, cloak with a hood

Weapons: Wooden staff, dagger she keeps on her belt

Visual appearance:

http://photos.posh24.com/p/1238131/l/style_tips/summer_style_tips_sizzle_as_a_red.jpg

PERSONALITY:

General personality traits: An extreme introvert, loner, cares about her survival above everything else, cold, unimpressed by almost everything you could ever say, not talkative, cares little about other people.

Likes: Nature, freedom, being alone, animals

Dislikes: Templars, large cities, crowds, humans, elves-haters, racism

Fears: being locked up in a tower, claustrophobia, getting caught by the templars

Attitudes towards friends/strangers: those she considers friends are very rare and the only ones who see her for she really is, a caring person who is actually afraid of the world/ cold, indifferent, doesn't care

Opinion of the world: A large scary place with thousands ways of killing her.

HISTORY:

Past:
Alalia was born in Kirkwall Alienage and lived there for a couple of years with her mother who refused to join Alalia's father. She never knew much about her father, only that he was a Dalish and that she wasn't with him because her mother didn't want to "live like a savage, eating raw rabbits for dinner". Life in Alienage never really attracted Alalia and she eventually grew curious of the "free elves", as some of the other elves from the alienage called them, dreaming of a day her father would take her away from the rude shemlen city. The day came - but not the way Alalia imagined it. Her talent for magic showed when she was 6, worrying her mother to death and causing her to bring a rash decision of sending her to Alalia's father. Some of the local thugs smuggled the young mage - for a price, of course - out of Kirkwall and instead of bringing her to the Dalish, left her in the wilds. Fortunately for the little girl, Dalish did found her after a few days, scared and starving out in the cold. It was not the same clan Alalia's father was from - for they have gone far from the wilds surrounding Kirkwall -, but she was happy nevertheless. Growing up as a Dalish, she learned how to change her shape into a wolf, a bear, a hawk, and to control her magic. Alalia later left the Dalish to visit her mother, finding Kirwall in ruins, her mother missing and herself in a middle of a war between the Templars and her own kind.

Birthplace: Kirkwall Alienage

Family/Relationships: Mother she lost contact with, never met her father

His blue eyes can stare with such intensity and hate one could feel intimidated just by looking at him. Messy short brown hair and stubble is rarely tended to, giving his a wild look, only confirming the amount of scars he's gotten during the years spent in the wilds. Over the time, he's acquired quite a reputation of a thief, assassin and a mass murderer, known in Laysh only as "Wolf" or "The Butcher of Laysh". When he was 27, he got into something that got his whole bandit group killed, his whole personality and any part of his humanity copletely erased and 2 years in a dungeon, tortured on a daily basis. In Kirkwall he set himself up as a freelance assassin, there he recived numerous contracts which he took to greedily, amassing himself a nice fortune, despite his riches he lived at The Hanged Man and it became known to those that sought him to ask for The Wind At The Hanged Man, it was in Kirkwall that he bought himself a fine ship and a crew to sail the oceans as a pirate and smuggler. He quickly became known for his daring escapades and bravado. The bounty he earned for his head was high and against all odds he constantly eluded capture.

While holed up in Orlais he met Ilana, a beautiful dark haired half-elf that he instantly fell in love with. She desired adventure above all others and she fell in with his crew, after many months at sea she was lost during a Sea Hydra's attack that nearly sank his vessel. Wind mourned her loss extensively and the crew renamed their ship in her honor.

Hmm.. A Dragon Age Age RP.. sounds fun. Think i'll start on a character for it. Already have one in mind. A little different buuuuut should be fun to play as.

And Mac you might wanna go back and do some edits to your character. Unless you're talking about a completely different girl that just happens to share Isabella's name then I think you just sorta glanced at Nightshade's post before making your character. This takes place a few weeks after the end of DA2. There's no possible way for your character to have had all that happen in such a short amount of time if it's the same Isabella from the game.

The more the merrier! ;D

Well Dragon Age 2 is kind of set after Dragon Age 2.

But this RP is set in 9:37 Dragon which is the same year when Anders destroyes Kirkwall Chantry. So it's several weeks after everything that happened at the Gallows but it is still 9:37 Dragon which also means that Cassandra's interrogation of Varric which happened at 9:40 Dragon hasn't happened yet.

I'll edit my first post and copy paste the timeline of Dragon Age. Maybe it will help you to decide when this whole thing happened with Isabela. I don't mind her being involved in some way with your character but this "she and him adventured for sometime and eventually he joined her crew of pirates" couldn't have happened anywhere between 9:31-9:37 Dragon because Hawke was already living in Kirkwall at that time and she accompanied him/her.

Maybe you could change it that Wind and Isabela met each other in the Hanged Man and occasionally went on their own adventures when Hawke traveled with his/her other companions while Isabela remained in Kirkwall? And since in the story summary I wrote that Isabela returned with the tome and Hawke dueled the Arishok, it means that she was present in the Gallows and fought alongside Hawke. Wind and Isabela could have been reunited when she fled Kirkwall after the battle and then the ship accident happened?
