Dragonborn crashing to desktop

OK - I think I solved my problem anyway - hopefully this might help someone else. A couple of mods I run are SMIM and SKYRIM HD. I went to the Static Mesh Improvement Mods page on NEXUS and got smart and "RTFM"ed it. I then uninstalled and re-installed all my graphics including the HD upgrades from STEAM and the fixes. After doing that I have played all day with no CTD and only minor freezes. Everything is running okay now. Prior to this I could get to the dock in Raven Rock but couldn't get out of town without crashing. same thing was try with fast Travel and sometimes quicksaves... CTD over and over. Before i did this It was playing "old school DOOM (the real one before modems were used to play games) it was take a few steps - quicksave -a few steps - quicksave.... I'm running everythin on ULTRA.. Windows 7 64 bit. no problemos

just one more bit about hair mods - i have extended my experiments to a point, where only vanilla skyrim + all DLCs wit all unofficial patches along with few character-related texture improvements, SkyUI and iHUD plus ONE ESM HAIR MOD (apachii or oblivion) are installed; this setup always go to crash on the very same helgen cutscene point. Disabling the hair esm solves that...

As i simply can't blame few widely used texture mods to be the reason, and the same with unofficial patches, it simply has to be the hair mod fault - or better to say, hair mod with official DLCs'? I have also tried the same setup without official DLCs, and surprisingly, it didn't crash in the obvious cutscene point, but when i tried to go to menu (by pressing ESC) just after the autosave when you jump down of the carriage.

my log looks like this: no rampaging script or such things...

So, i really tend to blame the hair esm. Or we should blame helgen itself, as it was a source of many problems in the past as well?

Oh, and my saves are almost 6mb with all DLCs, 3.3mb without...

Have to say i am having the same issue with Dragonborn "DLC2PillarBuilderActorScript" - even at the very beginning of new game during Helgen cutscene just before the carriage reaches its destination - CTD... Sadly, papyrus log is full of that DLC2PillarBuilderActorScript errors along with tons of others DLC2 related script errors :(

What is strange, i was able to finish the cutscene only once, with super-vanilla skyrim+DLCs, now with unofficial patches and very few other mods i got CTD every time... mod list follows...

Active Mod Files:

• 00 Skyrim.esm

• 01 Update.esm

• 02 Dawnguard.esm

• 03 HearthFires.esm

• 04 Dragonborn.esm

• 05 ApachiiHair.esm

• 06 Unofficial Skyrim Patch.esp [Version 1.2.7]

• 07 Unofficial Dawnguard Patch.esp [Version 1.1.4]

• 08 Unofficial Hearthfire Patch.esp [Version 1.0.3]

• 09 Unofficial Dragonborn Patch.esp [Version 1.0.0]

• 0A SkyUI.esp

• 0B iHUD.esp

• 0C Atlas Map Markers.esp

• 0D Atlas Blackreach.esp

• 0E Atlas Dawnguard.esp

• 0F Atlas Hearthfire.esp

• 10 Atlas Dragonborn.esp

• 11 RaceMenu.esp

so, i removed Dragonborn, believing it was the culprit, but surprisingly i got another CTD at the very same place. After that i started removing one mod after another, and guess what, my CTD was caused by Apachii hair mod... Sure, there are tons of lines about apachii hair causing trouble, but - this was the starting cutscene before my character was made, and there was no mod porting apachii hair to NPCs, so i felt really safe with that.

What i want to say - dragonborn may cause some trouble visible in papyrus log, but does not have to be the cause of CTDs every time...

EDIT: just if you think apachii hair is the sole cause of errors, i have tried another non-replacer hair mod - oblivion hair, which caused the same CTD as apachii's... just wonder why all the hair mods do this :(

Thank's for the tip!

I was also having problems with crashing in exterior cells. Basically after walking for a couple minutes I'd try to open a menu and the game would crash. The log was filled with "RentRoomScript.psc" and "DLC2PillarBuilderActorScript " errors, and after trying a few other things, I took your advice and removed the apachii esm, and it worked! I was able to keep another hair mod active (not oblivion hair), and it works fine. I still get occasional crashes in exterior cells (again it seems to be related to RentRoomScript.psc), but I'm able to play for far, far longer now.

Have the same problem here with constant CTDs like every few minutes on open air. Also I must say that this seems to be happens only near big routes, where many NPCs travel. So this must be NPCs related. Also I've noticed records related to Dragon Cultist ambush in the logs just before almost every CTD. Can't even imagine what to do. I'm definitely don't want to start a new game. I've passed so many crap to build my character not to blow everything I got right now. There must be a way out of this s#*!. At this point I hate Bethesda. Really.

Here is example of logs before crash:

By the way the Creation Kit Wiki page says Skyrim.esm, DLC esm files or unofficial patches for the DLC or Skyrim should NEVER be cleaned with Tes5Edit.

http://www.creationkit.com/Skyrim_Dirty_Plugins_List

Wrong, actually it says that you SHOULD clean official DLCs esm's files + update.esm, but do NOT clean Skyrim.esm and unofficial patches. Please read it again carefully...

Strange, at night I saw that all of what I mentioned above shouldn't be cleaned and now that I read it again it says otherwise. I was probably really frustrated and tired at night.

I have spent more hours and days modding/solving crashes on Skyrim than actually playing the game ever since it was released by the gods. Sometimes I don't even enjoy the game anymore because mods turn rogue and crash the game, but Skyrim always comes back to haunt me (In a good way).

I just get so angry for a game so buggy to be released like that, I keep it all bottled up though. And then I get a breakdown and become the next Sheogorath. That's what happens, I go mad.

EDIT: ApachiiSkyHair isn't the one breaking anything. In fact running only Skyrim and the DLC alone causes these script loops which I mentioned before.

By the way installations of Skyrim on different computers sometimes behave differently, so if disabling a mod helped you, you're probably gonna have to play without it for the rest of the play-through but I could be wrong.

Here's something I wrote on Apachii's mod page:

"EDIT: Did some further testing and messed around the Creation Kit a bit and found out ApachiiSkyHair is in fact not the culprit, Bethesda's own DLC seems to have game breaking bugs and if more mods are loaded it appears that all that load results in CTD's.

So basically if Bethesda doesn't fix their own bugs, I am never buying one of their games ever again, I was a fan since Morrowind, sure the games had bugs but not of this magnitude, this is just ridiculous."
They just broke any possibility of me playing with other mods. I am at a loss for words.
EDIT 2: I assume I found the correct cause for the script errors. Apparently the cause can be either:
1. Corrupted Game Files
2. Edited ESM
(Damn I'm good)
But, verifying the game cache and re-downloading the game still isn't safe bet that the errors will disappear from vanilla or modded game. But it apparently solved these errors for me. I had to delete all my mods though,
EDIT 3: The errors seem to return, sadly. I guess all I can do is play and try to minimise CTD in some other ways, while I wait for the unforeseeable patch that won't come.

Experiencing the same issue, "[DLC2PillarBuilderActorScript". Pillar builder... Yep... build the pillar...

Tried a few things, I believe this shouldn't be a conflict with other mods because I only have USKPs installed.
