Changing Default Location of games

My Vortex Version 1.4.14


Windows 10


Enderal



I've moved my steam folder to a new SSD drive. I'm realizing my method wasnt the best but steam recoginized everything & links everything to the new folder. Vortex still only sees the old steam folder. I have tried to change the Mod staging Folder to the new location but get an error Message "NO DEPLOYMENT METHOD AVAILABLE" see notifaction for more information


The full error message


Deployment method "Hardlink Deployment" not available because: Works only if mods are installed on the same drive as the game. All of my games work through steam or directly on the new drive & i moved my Vortex downloads there. I tried unstalling Vortex & reinstalling but that made no differance. Thanks in advance for any help Cheers David

My new one J:\VortexMods\{game}


If I change the staging folder back to the old location it works fine but I would really likke to have Steam & Vortex agree on where my games are installed

Well it is actually worse than you think...

 

When you move a game folder like that without purging your mods in Vortex first, Windows happily converts all those hard links to your mods into

a real copy of your mods. Twice the space used - not twice the fun.

First, Purge your mods in Vortex - just so Vortex knows they are not installed.

Next, clean up your game directory. Delete everything not installed by Bethesda.

Next have Steam validate your game. Maybe run it and make sure the mod-free game works OK.

Next delete the old copy of your game directory. If Vortex can't find it, Vortex will ask where it is.

Now you should be able to have Vortex move your staging directory.

Finally, Deploy in Vortex and you should be good to go.
