How do you make weapons/shields transparent?

So I download this guys file, tossed in his nif files and ONLY installed his glowmap which I colored all blue.

I got this: http://img844.imageshack.us/img844/7481/tesv2012011102420021.jpg

So... on one hand his _g.dds glowmap DID work and I can't figure out for the life of me how he did it.

On the other hand... It doesn't seem to emit that much light and I could probably get almost the same exact effect by coloring the texture blue.

you couldn't make the same effect, self illumination isn't the same as diffuse color.

Anyway it appears that he used shader type 2 and the shader flags 2 enabled the SF_Glow_Map flag. Probably that's it.

I was messing with the shader type 0 and 1 so it's probs something to do with that. I'll give that a quick test to see..

Yep, that was it.

Is there a way to make the glow stronger? Like "Pull out shield light up room" type stronger?

Just want to toy around with different settings. Alternatively, combining the lighting property's of a torch with another item; say a sword? Feasible? Or something way beyond my skill level.

Check this out for an easy to follow guide on glow maps http://newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=45075.

It tells you how to set up glow maps and how to correctly apply them without confusion like some tutorials tend to. It tells you how to make the glow stronger too (emmisive)

I know that now, tried using it earlier and nothing! What are people using for nif editing now then? The only modding tools I have for Skyrim are Skyedit, BSAopt for extraction, and TESSnip which admittadly is confusing for me.

P.S. sorry for changing the original subject :ohdear:
