Glossy Bumb maps

Ok, so I tried changing the bump map of the thieves guild armor by myself, but I turned out very glossy. Later I installed and uninstalled bumpy whiterun and now whiterun looks like its all glazed in some sort of shiny stuff. How do I prevent this? Im currently working on the archmage robe and it looks like a chainmail, not cloth. Please help me out asap

(This is from my Oblivion modding knowledge)

You have to put a Mask on it. In GIMP, go to Layer>Mask> Add Alpha Mask. Select Black, then run over it with a very low opacity eraser so the normal still shows up a bit.

Meh, I use photoshop.

Well that makes things easier..

You need to add an alpha channel. you create one with that little icon next to the trash can as seen in this image:

http://www.photoshopessentials.com/images/photo-effects/creative-focus/adobe-photoshop-tutorial-16.gif

then you paste your specular map into alpha channel.

Save it as a dds format with alpha such as DXT5
