"Validation operation failed" won't load mods

I was able to run some basic mods last night, using the latest version of vortex. but after a while i got a weird error message in my vortex notifications that said "validation operation failed". i tried uninstalling the mods, then reinstalling. I've tried reinstalling my game (RE:2) and reinstalling vortex. Even just downloading one mod and running that only in case it had too many mods downloaded / running. But still the error persists and mods simply won't load. I tried searching online and the forums and unless I look hard enough I couldn't find anyone who encountered the same error message.

Could anyone please help?

and yes I am enabling / deploying mods properly.

There is a bug in Vortex 1.4.9 where the cache for RE games can get corrupted. In the mods tab you can go to Open -> Mod Staging Folder and there should be a JSON file in there.

The full answer from one of our devs is in a topic on the same subject: https://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/9915803-unexpected-token-f-in-json-at-position-3031/
