  1. Some other things you might try is making an exception in you antivirus for the witcher 2 also if you use windows defender is add witcher 2 to the list of allowed programs . Something to try would be to temporarily disable UAC in control panel>user accounts to see if the UAC is interfering with the game . Windows 7 can be finicky if games are installed in Program Files and why i generally install my games to certain folders according to the developers
  2. The bcd edit you tried is valid for 32 bit systems only and won`t do a thing for 64 bit systems . You could try setting your texture memory to medium . You`ll find this in the configuration tool advanced settings . It should be the second or third setting from the top . Are you overclocking your video card ? If yes then try turning down the clocks to stock .
  3. Are you in the prolog ? If yes then there are a lot of locked doors which you cannot open . Later on in the game you will encounter a few but not too many locked doors some of which you will need a key for and others you cannot get into depending on the side you choose .
  4. done

and its still coming up with an error about a driver Tages protection

Windows 7 ? Update to the 1.5 patch first and then go Here and update by clicking the 5.5 toward the bottom of the page and choose the one that is appropriate for your system and follow the prompts to uninstall the Tages drivers . Then retry the game .

  5. As Deadlykris said and also pubic hair not shown . Which is why Wal-mart would not carry The Witcher until they had a censored version . I sure am glad i have people watching out for me !
  6. Thanks! I see that I have 'Formulas' for potions and that I'll need to head on down to the Elves baths for that moss - is there any way of locating/tagging/marking these places on the map? There was an orange indicator which would point me in the direction of active quests but that has stopped flashing on my mini map now - maybe because I went to the Bath ruins and found nothing. So 'diagrams' are required to craft stuff such as weapons or armour - is there any list of what can be crafted in Witcher2?

I would comment also that it is really hard trying to find enough ready cash to buy stuff in the game - I have turned into a looter of Inn bedrooms just to get by - not the noble character I thought I was playing initially! Where do you get decent amounts of orens from? I tried getting rid of Nekker colony underground - none remaining but don't see how to claim a reward...do I have to get rid of the lot of them from all of Flotsam??

Thanks for your time reading this drivel!

    BR.

You need to destroy 4 nekker nests in the forest in order to claim the reward from Louis Merse The Endrega contract also need to see Louis Merse afterwards . Louis Merse is directly across the way from the tavern . Cash is always a needy item in Witcher 2 of course you can arm wrestle , talk to Zoltan , fistfighting is done in the basement of the tavern and you can always play dice of course selling items that you pick up can help .

If you open journal (J) and select certain quests when you exit the journal if the quest is trackable you will have a marker appear in your minimap

  7. The game reads unpacked dzip files first and if none exist then reverts to the normally installed dzip files . Which is why when you try to update with a patch and unpacked dzip files are in the CookedPC folder you get the installed game version is incomplete or invalid argument .
  8. Some things you might try make sure that you run as admin also check by right clicking gamesave properties to make sure that everything in the security tab is checked except for special permissions . If all is ok there then rename your gamesaves folder to gamesaves.old and create a new folder and name it to gamesaves and copy and paste (do not move) a few of the autosaves and or manual saves to it but not any quicksaves and then retry the game and see if saving works .
  9. If you have a backup of your CookedPC folder from the original install patched to 1.3 with no mods then yes it`s safe . Otherwise no , the CookedPC folder contains all necessary dzips for quests and additional dlcs , languages , etc . . It may be better just to do a reinstall of the game .
  10. I'm also having the same problem.. it keeps downloading the same update over and over, it is 9062 KB every time.

I've tried uninstalling, restarting PC, installing(and not letting the patcher run), restarting, and trying to manually update but I still get the "invalid or incomplete" error..

After uninstalling the game make sure that where you had the game installed to for example C:/Program Files/witcher 2 That the Witcher 2 folder is no longer present and that the Witcher 2 folder is not in the documents area as well if you have saved games in there just back them up by copy and paste to another folder and then delete .

  11. Fun new problem everyone haha it just keeps updating... left my computer on when i went out three hours later still updating just keeps loading and installing the same patch...

    ok try updating manually

How to manually patch the game

    1. get the patch(es) first and foremost doesn`t matter in what order just as long as you have the ones you want or need . all versions of the patches are here http://en.thewitcher.com/patch1-3/

    2. disconnect from the internet

    3. install the game

    4. close the launcher or cd-key registration

    5. apply patches in order

    6. retry the game

    7. reconnect to the internet

  12. I use Avast and prefer it 10 to 1 over avg . even though you may not be able to exit avg you should be able to make an exception in it for Witcher 2 . I would prefer to have avg disabled before reinstalling the game however as antivirus programs running increases install time as well as may cause the game not to configure itself properly .
  13. I just finished playing TW1 and loved it. I'm now on TW2 and can't seem to find a place to toggle things like NPC name's or item name's

In TW1 you could toggle all items and that you could search through e.g. "barrel" you didnt havnt to just run around all the barrels/boxes/(insert next thing) to click to collect items.

Also with the name toggling, atleast in TW1 if someone had a name it meant talking to em generally ment some part of your quest would be done or handed another one and you could save yourself the hassle of talking to "peasent" and focus on "named peasent"

If there is any way to toggle this on I would be one happy gamer!

    Thanks

*Sorry if a post like this has been done, i spent a whole 5mins looking through the forums and decided it would be easier for me just to ask*

I haven`t found a way to toggle npc names . If you want to see lootable containers and places of power just press the Z key

  14. Yeah they were fan made adventures and some are real good at least imo . I kinda enjoyed playing the adventures with no sound...didn`t have to worry with the headphones or speakers...just relax and play or if you want just fire up some favorite mp3`s and play to your hearts content or until the adventure is over .
  15. That would be normal...and the wedding is not the only one that you will encounter with no voices . The best i can remember when CDPR released the toolset they had a contest and the winners got their adventure voiced with music and all others got an honorable mention ...but no voices .
  16. OK. So the "when poisoned" feature is the Alchemy Tree equivalent to heliotrope and adrenaline?

I see from the wiki that the Alchemy Tree has five abilities that have mutagen slots compared to the three abilities in each of the other trees. So you'd need seven good mutagens, if you also get the two in the Training Tree. Easy to get this many with 1.2, harder with 1.3.

I'm not really impressed with the way they "fixed" the mutagen issue for 1.3. When I saw that they were letting you use them as alchemical ingredients, I was envisaging special potions that you could only make with mutagens - I guess that was wrong. If they're just substitutes for the existing ingredients, you're probably still as well using a cheaper ingredient for potions, and selling the mutagen.

I got two "madness" mutagens on my last run-through. On 1.3. Couldn't believe my luck :)

I guess you made up for my last three runs where i haven`t even seen a madness mutagen . The last two on hard...dunno maybe not living right or something . lol

  17. OK if you download the 1.4 patch from the link (it doesn`t require registration)and i take it you already have the relevant language pack. After the 1.4 finishes downloading then you need to create a new folder and place both the 1.4 patch and the language pack in this folder then run the 1.4 patch as administrator . Then update to the 1.5 patch then go to the Tages website and update by clicking on the 5.5 toward the bottom of the page and then remove the Tages driver .

    http://www.en.thewitcher.com/the-witcher/1/

    http://www.tagesprotection.com/main.htm?page=minimum.htm

For the minimum requirements error you will need to go to your witcher/system folder and locate the witcher exe and right click and send to desktop , then on the new shortcut right click and select properties and in the shortcut tab in the target line and to the right outside the quotation mark type exactly (space)-dontForceMinReqs and click apply and ok and you should be good to go . I`ve attached a pic with the witcher exe to show how it should look .
