I've reinstalled Witcher 1 after some time, and tried to patch it (I still have patches 1.4 and 1.5 stored on my backup drive). Patch 1.4 reported that it wants me to register the game.
Oh sure, I thought, and tried to register the game, using my old login and password for The Witcher. No success.
Surprised, I went to the Witcher site. Wow, everything changed and apparently the guys also removed all support for Witcher 1 game. "Great move, guys!", I thought, and started searching for solutions. After 30 minutes or so of active googling I have finally learned that there's a new version of official 1.4 patch which does not require registration. I wonder why I only found this information on some remote forum, perhaps writing that on the official site would be too difficult for the team?
Anyway, I downloaded the new 1.4 patch and it's corresponding language pack from the official site. And tried to run it. It failed with "critical failure" error in some "NotCensored" module.
So the question is: what am I supposed to do in order to play the game which I paid for?
The language packs should be the same the only difference would be the TWEE_Upgrade (1.4) patch . Have you tried using a MD5 verifier to make sure you got a full patch .

also make sure you are running the 1.4 patch as administrator .

stuck in traffic again, in this fight I die , every time I don't even seem to be swinging or defending...my choices are press A/W/D/S and the plus sign appears periodically, I am pushing more years ( try 68) than most but my reflexes are not completely shot so what is with this pushing , is it push many times quickly ( like the ballista) or push and hold or push + and a letter sequentially or simultaneously or what please ???
Just press and release the corresponding key or keys that appears on the screen without the plus key . If you wish you can disable the difficult QTEs from ingame by pressing the esc key and select options and then gameplay and uncheck the difficult QTE section

I have completed the ritual and protected Henselt, after which he and Geralt speak and the King states meet me at my tent. At this point the screen goes black, I still have sound.
My graphics card is ATI Radeon HD5450 all drivers are up to date.
This is the first graphic issue I have had
Can any one help please.
Could be any number of things that may cause black screens
Game Glitch - have you tried reloading a previous save to see if the same thing happens
Card heat - try checking the CPU and GPU fan and heatsink and clean with compressed air if necessary
What is your power supply specifications ? How old is the power supply ?

I didn't get the item, and I don't think I have a suitable savegame. Does that mean I can't do the Kayran quest?

After going through the trouble of making the trap and then getting smacked around a couple of times trying to set the darned thing i really wasn`t all that impressed by the trap . Of course i`ll need to try it again a couple more times...so we`ll see .
Glad to see you found the answer but just in case someone else wants to know .
No the kayran trap is not necessary to finish the quest .

Let me see if i can explain what should be happening with the kayran fight on the easy or not difficult QTE and will put it in a spoiler tag for those who might stumble on this thread
After chopping off 3 tentacles you then go for a ride on the 4th and after filling the QTE bar completely to where it disappears and after a very small period of time Geralt jumps off on his own . Now you should be beside a big pile of rubble after the bridge collapses on the kayran . Go behind the rubble and run up the slope toward the kayran and when you reach the top another QTE will take place of which you need to do nothing but watch

qte bar is full and you fall off do the same thing over agian still no way to end fight help please anyone
If you are playing with difficult QTE on then you need to fill the bar and then press the space bar at the correct time in order to keep from falling off the tentacle. You can disable difficult QTE by pressing the esc key from ingame and select options and then gameplay and uncheck difficult QTE...after which the QTE is done using only the left mouse button

when i installed the game it said i could run it on medium settings but i cant even run it on low with out the frame rate being so low its unplayable. i just bought a new asus u43 series laptop. its got an intel core i5cpu 2.67ghz and 6gb of ram. I'm really not that knowledable about computers so i don't know if maybe the game can't run on my laptop but i can run starcraft 2 just fine.Also when i installed the game it wouldn't let me put in the activation code, like i couldn't type anything in then i just hit ok and it installed the patch, i don't know if that has anything to do with it. any help would be apreciated thanks
It`s quite possible that you have a laptop with optimus technology . Can you post back with the full set of numbers for your laptop and i will be more than glad to look it up for you . For example ASUS U43JC-X1

It also appears that you have an Intel GMA HD video chip you can verify by right clicking "computer"and select manage and on the left side select device manager and expand by clicking the plus sign next to display adaptors . I would also recommend getting all available updates .

Hi guys, anybody know where I can find madam Margot? Ive just lost the knife throw with Ves and played the drinking game. When i wake up a local tells me to find Margot. I goto the prostitute house above the inn, shes not there. Ive tried looking at different times of the day, the only girl available is the elf girl.
Am i looking in the right place? Unless i can find her ill have to skip this quest. Ive just killed the Kayran and am in the middle of the prison barge quest.
She should be in one of the rooms under in the inn...i think the first or second door just after coming off the stairs .

IT is a wireless mouse, but like I said, in every place else in my computer, and in the main menu and pause menu, it works fine.
Maybe something in the game or even full screen is causing it to malfunction
Have you tried windowed mode ? Just to see if it still quits working .
Having never had a wireless i don`t fully know what would cause one to stop working . Did you install any software with it in which case you may need to adjust the sensitivity . Or there may be something in control panel for wireless devices that may need adjusting .
Just trying to give some suggestions that may help .

HOWEVER, I have another problem where my mouse and ctrl key stop responding, but only in game. out of game (and in the pause menu) they work fine. what is the fix to this? the only way so far I have discovered is to leave to the main menu and try again.
I`ve never had my mouse to stop working . I use a wired mouse so if you are using a wireless one make sure the battery is good and if you have one handy try a wired mouse . If already using a wired mouse you might try unplugging and reinserting it to rule out a loose connection
You might try remapping the ctrl key to another key that is close to the same location..for example the alt or X key and see if that key also stops responding .

I don`t know your system specs but you might try some of the following suggestions
Lower the graphic settings through the game Launcher, especially Texture Memory Size. Sometimes, higher display options can cause crashes.
If you are using a 32 bit version OS click start -> run and type: cmd and paste this in the open dialog box bcdedit /set IncreaseUserVa 3072
Restart PC
Turn off all unneeded software running in the background, if you use 3D try disabling the 3D drivers
If you haven`t done so make an exception in your antivirus program for Witcher 2

kroXh I have the exact same problem. Weird thing is that I can crank all of the other settings up to maximum, screen blur, anisotropics everything, those all work fine so long as I restrict the resolution to 800x600, but the ground is the same as the sky. It's loosely playable but not the experience I had hoped for.
Standard advice is update your drivers and see if that cures it...but like you I've already done that. It won't be an overheat problem as it is the single easiest texture group to render...it is so annoying. Especially as I can't afford to buy a new card just for the sake of one game.
You didn`t state what your card is so i can only guess...have you tried windowed mode ?

It may not be the problem, but...
Generally, it is recommended with Windows 7 to install games to a different place - C:\Games\The Witcher 2 would be a good choice. That way you avoid any problems with the UAC (User Account Control)

I've tired contacting customer support, and their ideas haven't worked. Well, ideA. They told me to "update" windows. Which I've done. Again and again and again. It seems there are no end to updates for 7 at this point. Just when I think I've installed them all, two new ones pop up. It's aggravating to say the least. And in the mean time, the Witcher 2 just refuses to install itself. UGH!
As a general rule Microsoft releases updates the 2nd Tuesday of every month...not always but most often .
If you are sure that you have the latest VC update ie 2010 then you shouldn`t need the updates from the disc . Not entirely sure this will work as i haven`t tried it but when it goes to install the VC Redistributables from the disc try canceling the update .

Since installing patch 1.2 I have encountered quite a few bugs, seems to have created more than it has fixed. In prologue it is no longer possible to kill the knight with the ballista, In flotsom after completing the quest "A scent of Incense" successfully this is changed to failure when you leave Flotsum, likewise in Vergen the same thing happens with the quest "The walls have ears " also their are many containers that show as having loot but you cannot loot them. Did not have these problems before patch 1.2 so if any devs out there reading this can we have another patch please, one that works.
I took it that the "un-lootable" containers was down to the actual placement of them, other items being in the way.
No, when you use the Z key they light up but you cannot loot them even when there is nothing in the way.
Could be the devs intended to place items in them but changed their mind , or got sidetracked on a quest marker and then just forgot about them .

On playing this game on easy level it is very easy, you can cruise through the game using sword only, normal difficulty is a major step up, needed oils, signs, traps bonbs and every enhancement possible and still ended up getting killed dozens of times, definately needed to save often. I am now playing on hard level and either I am getting better at the game or it is easier than normal level, will know better after a couple of boss fights. Am I the only one to think this, opinions please.
I know the 1.2 patch made the combat somewhat easier . I`m either going to try hard level either later on in the game i`m on now or on the next one...depends on the boss fight in act 1 . I definitely know the combat was easier in the prolog...didn`t die a single time in the prolog on normal .

As for Letho i killed him the first time also but on the second play i chose the second option and still had to fight him anyway...so i don`t know if no matter what you choose you have to fight him but will try again on the third play to tell him to go far away and see what happens .
Hmm that is weird, if you choose 2nd option, you should just part ways peacefully, maybe a bug? Did you talk to him? Did you drink vodka with him :P?
I finished the game three times. On my first playthrough i sided with Iorveth, saved Triss and let Letho go. On my second i sided with Roche and went with him all the way (very interesting ending), killed Letho. On my third run i went with Iorveth all the way and i killed Letho (only because i made a promise to Roche, i wouldn't otherwise, i think he is one of the best characters in TW2).
Yep i finished all dialogues and drank the vodka twice and then selected go far way and he drew his sword and blasted me with aard . He darn near killed me before i could react with quen . Took me by surprise that`s what he did and yes i was expecting him to just walk away...but that did not happen...i`ll try again on the 3rd play which i`m in act 1 on that play currently .

^^ Do you still have to fight the Saskia dragon though at the end of act 3? or do you have to fight a completely different boss/ enemies?

You still fight the Dragon but you don`t know it`s Saskia and so i killed it the first time...well you know it winds up and just walked away the second time and it lives . My first play on Iorveth`s side i saved Triss instead of Phillipa but this time i think i will help Phillipa ...to see how things turn out . Also on the first play i killed the succubus ...but after reading the journal entry i may side with the succubus this time...i love trying various choices when given the opportunity to see how differently tings turn out .

Have you tried disabling antialiasing and vsync you shouldn`t need either of these unless you experience screen tearing . Also disabling vignette and motion blur and also stting your texture memory lower may help

There are indeed different endings . my first play i took Roche`s path and you don`t get to know Saskia or what she is and the same can be said for phillipa and instead you get to Henselt`s camp with Dethmold and Sile de Tansarville . Totally different endings .

Is this with random NPC`s or all NPC`s including Rche , Triss etc.?
If all NPC`s i would suggest reinstall with antivirus temporarily disabled in case that the AV kept the game from configuring itself properly .

Apologies mate, I was looking in the wrong place, yep, it says 1.5.0.1304 in the system folder :thumbsup: .....I hadn't gone that deep I was looking in the plain Witcher folder. :wallbash:
Now all I have to do is remember how the controls work! :biggrin:

Yeah i quit playing the witcher about 3-4 months ago so i would forget the controls so that i could play witcher 2 and not keep right clicking for the signs :tongue:
Well that makes two of us being a gray haired mature fart...53 myself for 4 more months then i inch ever closer to retirement :whistling:

There used to be another way and i`m trying to remember how it went...download Universal Extractor and extract the contents of the 1.4 patch to a folder of your choosing and place the language pack in this folder as well and then run the setup exe .
Might also try in safe mode .
