Are all the DLCs as dull as Operation Anchorage?
Sulo replied to HAMPOLLO's topic in Fallout 3's Discussion
Not at all. Anchorage is - by far - the weakest. Zeta may be a bit boring for you - but it has a very cool setting. Lookout and Pitt have nice stories and cool settings while Broken Steel is a continuation of the main story after the ruckus at the water purifier. I like them all with Zeta being my favourite anyway. I like this alienesque 50's flair. -
The only reason I am sad is that Skyrim has been such a disappointment. I quit after 150 hrs and started a new session with the New Vegas GECK while I am waiting for ME3. Well, I already have 704 hrs on my New Vegas account and I think there will be many more spent in the Mojave... Apparently I am a New Vegas addict - the last game that has been so addictive for me was Morrowind. Don't worry, New Vegas won't die that fast and the Fallout series as a whole will prevail anyway. When I see the thousands of *sigh* "mods" for Skyrim - haha. Fallout never changes ;)

I am encountering a problem which leaves me totally clueless so I am posting that one here. Maybe someone has an idea... Whenever I try to download a zip file from the Nexus, I get a screen like that: http://www.imagebanana.com/view/09sf1bj3/error.jpg The strange thing is: it happens only when downloading 7zip files and only if I choose the Kent Premium Server. Whenever I choose an other server, the normal download box pops up and everything works fine. To make it more mysterious this error occurs when using Firefox. When using IE, the browser also opens the file automatically, but it does not open it in this editor-type window but with the corresponding program. Why don't I get the normal download box when using the Kent server? As I said - whenever I am downloading other archive types or using other servers, everything works fine. First I thought that is also a "file download method" issue, but it doesn't matter if I choose the popup box or the separate window. I also stay logged in on every Nexus site and don't get kicked prematurely or kind of that thing. By the way, downthemall does not work with me... I reinstalled 7zip. I cleared cache and history (but that is being cleared automatically anyway). I allowed all cookies in my browsers and activated all java components. I deactivated all popup blockers and security programs. I deactivated antivirus and software firewall. I deactivated the manual setup of my hardware firewall and opened all ports. No way, same error. Now I have no idea left what I possibly could do. (well - I know - use the other server. That was my second idea, but that is no solution ;) )

First I did not get your point due to my somewhat poor understanding of the english language... Well, mostly people do NOT speak about a FRAME DROP. 30 would be still enough. LAG means that the picture stops for a moment. STALL means that the framerate drops below 20 and that is visible. CRASH means that I see my desktop. BUG means backwards flying dragon, texture issues and so on. Well, at least I am not showing my virtual weener around and am not counting frames here. My drivers are up-to-date as well as all updates for the OS, sound, board, controllers and so on. So what am I expected to do? Most people forget that they are customers here and not solicitors, asking nicely for help and if that is not given, going away in a submissive manner. I do not. OP has clearly a very different view on that matter.

No, questions are never dumb. I realised that playing at 1920 res with my modern rig and my 27" monitor gives me more CTD, more stalls, more lags, more bugs. Seriously. I used my other pc, the old one, at 1680 res on a normal 22" monitor with a bit lowered settings and it ran like hell. No sh'tting. When I used the LAA 3rd party patch along with 1.2, dragons started flying backwards and everything went to hell. I already have been fed up with that and simply quit playing on the big one because Skyrim does not make use of my big hardware anyway. On my small one: NO CTD, no bug (apart from unnerving questbugs) and no lag or stall. Crazy, huh? Then I realised that the game is boring, after a mere 103 hrs i quit ( FNV counter at over 700!). I'm on MW again, until February or March, when the Construction set will be released. And having given up the big pc, I have a peaceful atmosphere at home

Let us say you are not trolling and this is a serious question. Let's say you did not read the uncounted posts in the forums. The talk is about a lag HUNDREDS of players with modern x64 rigs experience every day. They spent a hell of money on hardware for the game and that monkey company chose to release a console and x32 optimized game. We have almost the year 2012. But because consoles are in their main focus, we have to live with a badly optimized engine. Well not all consoles are in their focus, the PS3 guys have been kicked in the nuts very thoroghly. And even the console players of their new financial overlords (Microsoft) are experiencing trouble. This is possible only in the gaming industry where you are allowed to released unfinished products. Try to imagine that with other products. And, to your sure amazement, I have chosen to run the game (IF I do play, now I stopped) on my old Core2Duo / Windows XP System. It runs smoother (no kidding) than on my shiny new Hexacore / Win 7 system with 8 Gig of Ram. Ah I forgot that Bethesda forgot the LAA implementation, ah such a pity. Let's wait another 4 weeks for an official answer. But no, they are choosing to rely on modders. Help yourself is Bethesda policy, these cowards. "How could such a thing be possible?" (to quote a Skyrim guard)...

I am playing with keyboard and mouse. And I surely won't spend another 40 bucks to buy a controller, just because Bethesda forgot that there are pc players out there.
-
Well, not bad. Somewhat... arrow deflecting?

From what I have experienced you do not get skill improvements from NPC if your skill is already too high. In my case that has been some smithing skill reward while my skill already has been as high as 95 or the like.

Skyrim has no frightening aspects unlike Oblivion
Sulo replied to tharius1's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
Hell, I choked on my beer now... coming out of my nose, thank you. -
It makes the game easier to play. It does not overstress us players with too many choices. By removing unnecessary items from the game they provide us the best and most balanced game experience there ever was.
-
I would doubt that. For me, it has absolutely no connection to skandinavian / germanic languages. Maybe a linguist should clear that one up. I have read somewhere that the rudimentary grammatics are based on the english language.

Maybe this will help you: For you Do not try forbidding other people to laugh.

Why would you say that to yourself. Topic is starting getting crazy lol. I would not, but I expected the interwebs to tell me that because of aforementioned reasons :teehee:

When I did this test, I was absolutely sure that the outcome would be, in BIG letters, You, Sulo, are an a**hole (because you don't like Skyrim or the like). But here is what it said... http://www.nodiatis.com/pub/22.jpg http://www.wizards.com/magic/images/whatcolor_isred.jpg

No, there is a skill check. If your magical skills are too low, you simply aren't promoted. Here you have mixed up something. You had to do missions, but at least as a skilled magician AND you had to have the magic stick
-
Well, that is called a dissociative identity disorder - you're a candidate for Sheogorath. But wait. I AM Sheogorath. Or is it you? We? :wallbash: Heavily OT.

Kill, destruction, enslavement, domination. Said the man, who has a big "I AM A PALADIN" signature. I am impressed.

And that is exactly the point. The game as such and the company i highly, if not excessively overrated. Wherever I read on the net, you have 3rd grade gaming journalists repeating the mantra of EPIC SKYRIM, as if they had reinvented gaming. And because of such behaviour and the way Beth steers the Elder Scrolls towards casual console games, many people did what they thought was right. Besides, who cares about this ONE vote. As long as there are plenty of organ monkeys repeating Beth's PR, they WILL become GOTY, just because of the advertising and agressive marketing. That's business.

So you'd rather see an entire people wiped out because they are trying to claim back what is rightfully theirs? Yes. Us or them. And their homeland is Summerset / Valenwood. The Thalmor are elven racists, not more or less. It is the governing party in the Aldmeri Dominion.
-
I officially declare you my hero of the day! That is exactly what Bethesda made of the Elder Scrolls. Kudos, mate and cheers to you. Btw. I really like the video. Ah, I found something else:
-
I have a death warrant on my head by them and Thalmor asassins after me. I kill them on first sight. I am for the humans and against elven domination. But I have to admit that I like how things are being developed, with Summerset as the new overlords and a weak empire. Great plot.
-
You know what? I will vote AGAINST Skyrim. Thank you for the hint. (By the way, you - with your one-post account - aren't (by chance) on Beth's payroll?)

Well this is the so-called "simplification" many people are so content with. Many aspects of the game (i.e. annyoing journal and questmarker hopping, crippled stats, crippled magic, boring guild quests) are being sold as an actual improvement while being a pile of BS sold to an audiency steadily growing more "casual". Well, the time of the consoles has come. And with it the time for simplicity. No more guessing, follow the marker. No more reading clues because obviously some of the people posting in the Bethforums seem to have problems with reading. But - you are ringing the wrong doorbell here. Here is the Nexus, the state-of-the-art modding forum, currently under attack by an unholy alliance (Beth, Valve, M$). Go post your thoughts in the Bethesda forum, you are then being shouted down and insulted by a bunch of children that never have seen a roleplaying game and thinking of Skyrim as the golden calf. Times of Morrowind-like "requirements" for something are over. Times of reading hints and clues in poorly illuminated dungeons are over, too. Follow the marker. I fear, my time with the new kind of "RPG"s is over, too.

Chest placing guide / Add new chests to your home

If I knew how to do these things properly - WITHOUT - the construction kit, I would have done it myself weeks ago :-)
