  1. In response to post #24582274. 1 month. 1 month to mod fallout new vegas, i went through every record in every mod, i merged mods, i made patches, i had to start from scratch multiple times to get it stable. 24 hours is a con job.

But since they are making money on mods, and say a similar mod shows up on the nexus, would Bethesda send a DMCA or copywrite claim to shut down that mod? Now it seems infinitely more likely they would go after their competition because the alternative is their paid mods are no long being purchased. Plus, lets not even get into the black market that will arise when this happens.

Anger must be directed somewhere. 25% is simply unacceptable. waiting to get paid until 400 shekels is achieved is criminal. The copy write is a big issue. This is not a lesser of two evils, these are two demons and they both must be put to the fire. I'm open to a conversation about monetizing mods, but this is unacceptable. Join the rebel alliance or burn on the stake with the other witches. We will prevail.
  4. In response to post #24580864. I posited nexus add advertisements to the download page for those who wanted them. But someone brought up a few good counter points. It's entirely possible that nexus would not be allowed to monetize mods in any way. It could be illegal, also there are enormous amounts of people that directly and indirectly contribute to mods like making utilities, bug fixing, patches, tweaks, play testing etc. Monetizing mods opens up a massive can of worms and ethical questions.

They make nothing from the specifically. Now that they own a bunch of mods, will that incentive them to make absolutely sure there is no one undercutting them? will they find it economicaly viable to go after the "competition." If this were content / quest / gameplay mods being sold, there's a tiny argument there. But this is anything goes. And as its been pointed out above, the amount of hands in the cookie jar of virutally every mod is vast. It's a slap in the face to everyone that has contributed over the years. I want to believe mod authors like Chesko were lured in unawares, maybe they thought it sounded interesting and signed up, then the ball dropped.
  6. In response to post #24580299. If a mod author chooses to do this, they are ruining their rep. They brought that upon themselves. I'm more worried about what steam / beth decide to do with those rights. What about mods that change similar things hosted on the nexus, will those mods violate their copywrite ownership? Nexus won't be able to fight that, they'll be deleting things left and right, there will be riots.
  7. In response to post #24579774. its legit, i took my own personal screencaps of that. both of fore's reply saying he didn't authorize it and Chesko saying steam told him it was "fair game" broke my heart. I hate to s#*! all over Chesko, maybe he has another side to this story, but that did not look good. It's not just Fore either, there are tons of people that worked on what i would call 'essential' utilities. without which modding your game or creating mods would be very difficult.

Worst case scenario they want to shut down the nexus and sites like it through dmca or equivelant. think about it, if a modder signs a contract giving beth and valve copywrite control over their mods for money, then what is stopping them from coming to the nexus to claim similar mods break those copywrite protections? And steam is allowing ANY mod to be sold. So what about tweaks or enb presets? This could be a nightmare

They spent countless hours slaving away for free and people can go sell their armor mods for money. disgusting.
  10. In response to post #24578789. they should just add advertisements to the downloads of mods like youtube. some can join in others can refuse. This costs nexus only what it would take to implement it, everyone is happy except people that don't know how adblock works. have a clickable advert to give them more money. let them shill for shekels (the current rules still apply though, no update stuff etc)
  11. In response to post #24577629. If TB was against this, he would be against himself making money off of youtube. He can't by a hypocrite here. He wants people to get paid for their work, but i don't think he fully comprehends the implications. Ultimately he has far more things on his plate than bethesda modding. He doesn't understand the nuances and shitflinging that already goes down here over free stuff. His criticisms are correct though, but its only viable if Steam were making themselves culpable for the eventually shitstorm that is about to visit them. I have a hunch they are making absolutely sure they have zero liability when people get scammed and burned left and right and their game stops working.

In theory, marxism isn't a bad idea. How many proverbial dead bodies are going to need be piled up before we decide it wasn't so great? And at that point, is there any way to go backwards once pandora's box is open? The mad wizard has the key to the box, lets kill him before he sticks it in. Then we can have a conversation about how to proceed with mod authors getting paid. .25 cents for an armor mod is everything wrong with this model.

I think that is the least of anyone's concern. They should get paid if they feel so inclined through donations. I support that 100% There are other more important issues at hand here. 25% being chief among them, followed closely behind by DMCA fears. What's going to happen if Valve gets copywrite for all these mods? Can offering the same mod that just changes a few globals get taken down here? There is going to be no way to tell and a whole bunch of crap flinging. As it stands, its a terrible idea and I haven't seen anything to convince me otherwise.

They will point them here. and i would be pissed if I were the nexus. I don't think this thing has been thought through at all, they just saw dollar signs and baited some people over to their side. Chesko said he signed some non-disclosure about this. God knows what else we don't know about.
  15. In response to post #24574214. lol sure he will. hey guise pay for it nao it will be FREE laterz kek. if that happens even once i'll be surprised.

Kids will be buying mods that break their game and then flooding steam with 'boohoos' when they keep crashing. They'll have to come here or elsewhere for their tools and that is just not fair. Such a sad state of affairs.
  17. You need to head over to TES Alliance and check out some tutorials there for basic modeling. Using nifskope is possible to move verts around, but it wasn't designed for that at all. You should be using a 3d program like Blender, which is free, to do the modelling and then using nifskope to clean the nif file and hook up your textures. Doing something like this can't be explained on a forum, you need to get some basic knowledge of the tools required. I suggest looking up Blender for modelling and Gimp for texturing.
  18. first, let me apologize for misunderstanding you, second, i stand by my earlier comment minus the hyperbole. There are few eyes on that video section except wanna be mods and the aforementioned trolls. I've been here for years and didn't even notice the extra button at the top. You don't have newest video's posted on the main page, and the main search function won't pull up videos. I'm not trying to get a pat on the back for making the tutorial, but it being drowned out by hundreds of lets play videos is a little disheartening, when imo the tutorials i posted aren't found anywhere and took countless hours to troubleshoot. It would be nice to at least draw more attention to the section in some way. I got 200 views on my videos for the short time it was in the file section, but it doesn't bother me that few people are watching, but the animation tutorials i made showcase tools from a modder that almost no one has even heard of and allows things not previously done for modding. I was just trying to draw attention to them because he deserves the credit.
  19. Oh lol silly me, there it is, i just clicked on it and saw the giant button that says UPLOAD VIDEOS HERE. can't believe i missed that edit: i mean ADD Videos, its been a long day. I seriously didn't see that videos tab at the top of the page; maybe you should add a note to the files upload section because i wouldn't have put the video there if i had known there was a videos section
  20. its just bizarre i've seen old tutorials on here with out any files to download. just written text on the main page. all this talk about banning is unnecessary, why would i get banned for uploading a tutorial? You dont want it in the file page, that's fine, would you please direct me to where this video share thing is?
  21. so basically don't post it? ive never heard of video share and i doubt anyone else has either
  22. I uploaded a tutorial and just added a text file for people to download if they wanted to endorse; apparently thats against the rules, but in the wall of text that popped up it said something about uploading a file before i put the mod back up. the tutorial are youtube videos, what exactly am i supposed to upload? i want to make sure i dont have to go through 15 pages to upload the tutorial

  24. I'm giong to post this here, when i searched the forum for a thread like this for some reason i didn't see one. maybe this will help someone else I had used the Ini tweaks in both the main fallout3 folder and also the C:/mygames/fallout3 folder, I used Windowed Mode, with the no borders mod found on the nexus. I turned off vsync, AA, Anistropic filtering. I have i7 3770k, gtx 670, 16 gb ram, gigabyte mobo; and still i had freezing and sometimes crashing problems. I found two solutions that completely fixed my problems I figured out the problem, I started the game with FWE + a few other mods I knew wouldn't break anything. Then slowly added mods like MMM. after freezes and crashes I discovered it was two things almost no one has written about on the nexus that I could find: Right click Computer in start menu > Properties > Advanced System Setting > Click Settings under the performance header Then untick every box except smooth edges of screen fonts under the Visual Effects tab. Apply And click on the Data Execution Prevention tab in the same box and make exceptions to every .exe you use for FO3 No crashes no freezes after applying all the ini tweaks and using windowed mode with no AA, vsync, Anitropsic filters. and ofc a merge patch with blackeneds patch for FWE +MMM Here's my Load Order
