  1. So in other words, it can't be done. Not even with console commands. (BTW you all the parts of my post that tell I ALREADY GAVE the crown to TULLIUS. Past-tense. Done. Crown is no longer even in game.)
  2. I'm looking for a way to revert to an earlier point in a quest chain. I'd like to know if there are console commands that can do it. Most specifically I need to know how to change a "completed" quest to "not completed." I while back I started the Civil War questline & joined the Imperials, but l ended up regretting it because my character would be better off in the Stormcloaks (for roleplaying purposes). The last quest I did in this chain is "The Jagged Crown" which is the one where you ultimately join one faction or the other. I have the next quest in my journal already ("Message to Whiterun") but I haven't done it yet. I posted about this before, and someone responded telling some console commands to use. http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/1419340-how-do-i-switch-sides-in-the-civil-war-using-cheats/ I followed their instructions but it didn't work. They gave me the commands to end the current quest (Message to Whiterun) and to restart the previous one (Jagged Crown), and I could remove the Message quest from my journal but I could not get the Crown quest to start. I think the reason is that the Crown quest is already in my journal, but in the "completed" section. Even though it's not active, when I tried to start it again I think the game considered it to be a duplicate, & it won't let me have the same quest in journal twice at once. So puzzle here is "how to remove the Jagged Crown quest from my journal entirely, even from the 'completed' section?" How can I flag that quest as "undone", or un-flag it as "completed, or whatever? Is there a console command for that? P.S. Going back to an earlier save isn't possible. Even if I have such a save file, I finished that last quest many months ago & have gained a couple dozen levels since then, done a ton of other things, even played through the entire Dawnguard questline. That's too much progress to throw away.
  3. I just tried to open the pages for some mods that I've been meaning to try out, but just got to the "file not found" page. Might this problem be causing that? Or is it just a coincidence that I tried check out a couple mods that have been removed from the Nexus, & I happened to so on a day when the Nexus had been down?
  4. In response to post #12380210. #12384660, #12396105 are all replies on the same post. "Didn't have no telephone, didn't have no FAX machine All we had was a couple cans and a crummy piece of string Didn't have no swimming pool when I was just a lad Our neighbor's septic tank was the closest thing we had Didn't have no dental floss, had to use old rusty nails Didn't have Nintendo, we just poured salt on snails Didn't have no water bed, had to sleep on broken glass Didn't have no lawnmower, we used our teeth to cut the grass" --Weird Al Yankovic, "When I Was Your Age"
  5. It's not working :( I went in and typed the 3 commands, StartQuest CW02A ResetQuest CW02A StopQuest CW02A Nothing happened when I typed any of them. And the "Message to Whiterun" was still in my quest journal. It occurred to me that the commands you gave me were ONLY for the Jagged Crown quest. But since it's part of a quest chain, and MTW is the quest AFTER it, it's probably impossible to have both quests in my log at the same time. So I looked up the ID for the Message quest (it's CW03, which makes sense compared to the other). I then typed into the console ResetQuest cw03 And a message popped up onscreen to say that Message To Whiterun was completed (as if I'd just finished it normally). It was no longer showing in my journal. I then tried re-typing the commands for the Crown quest, but still nothing happened with any of them. No Jagged Crown quest in my journal. I also reloaded the save (without having saved after doing that part), and tried typing StopQuest cw03. It had the exact same result as when I used ResetQuest for it. But still the commands wouldn't work for quest cw02a. Nothing happens, no effect. I think the problem is that you're telling me how to force a quest to begin, but because it's a quest that's ALREADY COMPLETED, it can't just "begin" at all. The game won't let me start a quest that's already listed in the "completed quests" part of my journal. I think we need to use some sort of command that does the equivalent of changing "cw02 = completed" to "cw02 = not completed" or "cwo2 completed = false" or whatever. Need to remove Jagged Crown from the record of completed quests, THEN try to re-start it. Any clue how to do that?
  6. Well remember that my goal here is to join the Stormcloaks, so I'll be giving the crown to Ulfric. I haven't checked if Tullius still has the crown or if it was automatically removed from the game once the quest was completed (how do I even check? try to pickpocket him & see if it's in his inventory? Or does he walk around wearing it on his head? If both Ulfric & Tullius having a copy of the crown at the same time would interfere with the quest, then I better go do all that stuff to get rid of the first. If not, then I just won't worry about it. If this character can join the Stormcloaks & do the whole civil war on their side, then an extra crown in the general's hands won't ruin the immersion for me.
  7. First of all, THANK YOU for responding. Second, I manually back up my saves frequently (I even use multiple rotating saves). Regarding the commands you gave me, I assume I only need to type the middle 3 into the console: StartQuest CW02A ResetQuest CW02A StopQuest CW02A But the other 2: save backup save backup1 ...I assume that's just generally telling me to make backups of my saves, right? Or are those also console commands I should enter? I've never used the console for making or backing up saves (never even though it was possible), so if that is what it means, then how does it work? Might it conflict with my manual backps? And then I have a couple questions about items. I'm guessing that when I reset the quest, the boss draugr will respawn with the Jagged Crown on him just like before. I'm not sure if the object itself still exists in-game after I gave it to General Tullius, but hopefully that won't be an issue, as long as I can loot it again from the draugr. And the quest doesn't really give any reward item rewards as far as I can recall (there's none listed on the USEP). The quest I have now says I need to deliver "a message to Whiterun" but as far as I can tell there's no quest item involved (no letter in my inventory.) So that just leaves the Ebony Dragon Claw. I don't know if the claw is directly required for the quest, I think it's only used to open a doorway in the ruins that leads to the boss, and I believe it's counted as a "quest item" just until the quest is done. I have it in a chest along with other special items that I've kept from completed quests. When I reset the Jagged Crown quest, do you think the claw will respawn inside the ruins? Or if the door it opens will still be open from my previous run through there? And if I should drop & disable the claw that I already have, how exactly do I do so? Like what's the console command to disable it?
  8. A while ago I joined the Imperial Legion, but now I regret it & wish I had joined the Stormcloaks instead, and I'd like to know if there's a way I can "undo" that choice. My reasons: First of all I know the 2 factions are like total mirrors of each other, but it totally goes against my character. For one, she's a Nord. And though she doesn't care much about race, she's a devious & cunning kind of person, and things like taking part in a rebellion & killing a leader in order to take their place are right up her alley. And my next character is going to be a Breton fighter with a little bit of a moral code of honor, so siding with "the law" in this way would be right up her alley. And I'm dead-set on having each character take the opposite path wherever there is one (Stormcloak vs Imperials, Vampire Lord vs Werewolf, etc). I know that even after you join a side, you can choose to switch to the other while doing a certain quest (The Jagged Crown), but I already completed that quest (it's the last one I've done so far in this questline). So is there another way? Perhaps using console commands? Is it possible to use the console to remove character from the faction, and reset the questline (change all the civil war quests I've done to "not done"), and get the first 2 quests active again ("go talk to X about joining Stormcloaks" and "go talk to Y about joining the Legion")? Would that cause any conflicts from things done in the questline so far (such as NPC's killed, or items been retrieved & destroyed or given to NPCs, such as the aforementioned Jagged Crown), that would make the quests un-doable a 2nd time? Or would any such changes reset if the associated quests are reset? Could I perhaps just restart the Jagged Crown quest (as if I'd just picked it up in my journal to begin with) and then when I do it again, give the crown to Ulfric instead this time? I am guessing these things are doable, but my understanding of console commands is very basic. I know how to use them, but only if I'm told the exact text to type in (including which punctuation marks to use). It all looks like computer code to me, & I'm not quite that tech-literate. If someone can figure out the right combination of commands that can somehow do all this, and then write down the commands for me, I can go enter them into the console & see how things play out.
  9. In response to post #11887160. #11973800 is also a reply to the same post. I think the problem you're having may be caused by the mod, not by NMM. I tried a mod recently called "Breezeholm Basement" which added a 1-cell room accessible by a trapdoor inside Breezeholm, & that room was filled with tons of bookshelves (among other things). After I installed it I went into the game & tried it out, but it kept giving me CTD. Mainly when I'd try to enter or exit a cell (not just in Breezeholm, but other places too), it would CTD. I tried some troubleshooting to see if there was another mod causing it, but couldn't find any, & I couldn't get it to work right, so I uninstalled the mod. Was that the mod you were using? If so, then it seems to be a very buggy mod, regardless of NMM version.
  10. Rabbits have disappeared from my game entirely. My character is lvl 80, and I haven't seen a rabbit in several months. They're not spawning anywhere, it's as if they're extinct. I don't fully understand how enemy & creature spawning & level-scaling works, but I haven't read anything to indicate that lvl 1 creatures should stop appearing for high-level characters. And I still encounter wild foxes, deer, wolfes, goats, & the like, all the time. It's only rabbits that I'm noticing are gone. This particularly bugs me because I have a mod called "Achieve That" (link: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/30212/? ...and one of the achievements within this mod is called "Slaughterer", which you earn by killing a certain number rabbits, and rewards you with a permanent damage bonus. The only mod I have that affects rabbits at all (as far as I know) is one called "Rabbit Rage" -- http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/30212/? -- but I deactivated that & played for a few hours, wandering all around the countrysides, but still never saw one rabbit. What else could be preventing them from appearing as they should? How can I possibly fix this? Has anyone even heard of a bug like this before?
  11. Thanks, that looks awesome! It might be exactly what I need! I'm gonna try it out. I've never heard of it, & I never would've found it just by looking for *magic* overhauls. BTW, I've asked this in the posts section of that mod's page, but in case I don't get an answer there, maybe you can tell me. Does the load order matter for this mod? Should it be higher or lower on the list than anything else in order to work right?
  12. Overall, magic in Skyrim is weak. Very weak. It can't hold a candle to physical combat, most of the schools are very difficult to powerlevel, and pretty much the only way to be an effectively powerful magician is to specialize your character in it. I need something that makes magic more powerful & effective to use, so I can sometimes chose it instead of a bow or warhammer because it's "a better choice" rather than for my current reason which is "so that I'm using magic" (because I always have my characters do as much as they can of everything). All the things wrong with the magic system in general are laid out in the description of this mod: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/4374/? I'd like to use that mod, but judging by the comments section, it seems to carry much too high a risk of breaking the game or conflicting with the many other mods I'm already using. Can anyone recommend an alternate? Maybe something with less bells & whistles? For the most part I just want to make magic spells more powerful (ESPECIALLY the damage done by destruction spells, but also the other schools in their own ways, such as longer-lasting alteration spells), and for them to cost less mana (without having to rely on gear that reduces the casting costs of one one school or another). Or maybe instead of making spells cheaper, just make it so that all characters have WAY more magicka by default, especially at higher levels. My character is level 76 right now, her skill levels range from 70 to 100 depending on school, but even the strongest destruction spell I can afford to cast barely scratches enemies anywhere close to my level, and some master-level spells cost nearly twice my maximum mana, & I won't be able to cast them until I'm closer to level 90. I know that I can use perks to reduce, casting costs, but to do that for master-level spells costs 5 perks per school, so it's still inefficient & still requires specializing more in magic & less in other skills. I'm not looking for something that adds new spells, I've got a few of those already. I'm just looking for something to make spellcasting easier & more worthwhile in general. An overhaul of magicka, spell costs, and spell magnitudes. Not overhaul of *perks*, because that would cause conflicts for me. I also looked at this mod, and it seems like an even better fit for what I want, but unfortunately it has some direct conflicts with other mods I use (changes to perks, & a problem with Categorized Favorites). http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/11139/?
  13. There was a spell created for the game called "Spectral Arrow" that's pretty close to this (albeit without the homing part). http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Spectral_Arrow It wasn't included in the actual game, though there are several mods that add it, making it useable. I have it in-game, though I honestly don't know what mod I have that adds it; I only found out it's included in vanilla when I looked it up in the aforementioned link for you just now. But a quick search on the Nexus found these links that include it (I'm sure you can find more if you google it or search on the Steam Workshop): http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/41390/? http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/9998/? http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/34620/? http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/13146/?
  14. So you're saying that I can respond in such a way that the same kid won't do this repeatedly? That I'll only have to suffer through it once per child, & then not again?
  15. There's one thing about children in Skyrim that I find partiuclarly annoying. It's when one of them sees me cast a spell, and s/he starts talking to me. "Oh you're a mage! Can you cast a spell to turn me invisible?" I wish to have this feature, this interaction, disabled. It wouldn't be so bad if it was just something they said as I walked by. But when it happens, it stops what I'm doing & takes me into a dialogue box. It can be problematic if I'm in a hurry. And it's COMPLETELY pointless. You can't turn the kids invisible. It makes no difference what option you select, other than what the kid says in response. It's not like most automatic NPC dialogue where you get something (like a courier offering a note), or that progresses a quest, or where there may be consequences depending on your response (like a highwayman attempting to mug you, or a guard catching you committing a crime). It's just there to give random kids more "character", but there's no functional value to it so there's no reason it should stop you & open a dialogue box. Sometimes I'll be walking through a city, casing Muffle & Rally repeatedly to powerlevel Illusion, and if I see kids nearby then I'll put my hands away & wait until they're gone, just out of fear that they'll see me and come up asking me to turn them invisible. Even worse was when I was trying to do something sneaky (like break into a house, possibly for a thieves guild or dark brotherhood quest), & needed to re-cast Muffle since stealth was vital, and there was a kid close enough to see me who came up & did the dialogue. It almost ruined my stealth & made me get caught. Someone please tell me there's a way to get kids to just continue what they're doing & leave me alone I happen to pass by them while casting magic spells?
  16. Thank you for posting them! My search skills S. U. C. K., so I probably wouldn't've found these on my own. I was planning to go into the game and try using the console to give my character a [bleep]load of gold, but the "100k Gold Coins Chest" sounds like a more reliable way, and can be available to any new character I make too. I'll try the "Sexy Well-Stocked Vendors" but FYI that mod hasn't been updated for over a YEAR. If it's too horribly outdated to work properly then I'll try the "Golden Vendors" one to give all vendors 20K gold. Also I'm glad you showed me these links because it solved a mystery that came when I was playing last fall. I had a mod that added a home (of sorts) that included a merchant with lots of gold who'd buy anything (except stolen goods), and after a while I noticed that when I tried to sell her stuff, she took the items but didn't give me any money for them. It was a HUGE annoyance, and even by then the mod had been abandoned by its creator so I couldn't get any help from the issue. But now that I've read the Sexy Vendors description, I see that it's actually a bug in the basic game itself, not the mod. That's really good to know, because I will make sure to avoid having it happen again with any other vendor in the game.
  17. Ok, that's an idea. Now please provide links to the specific mods that do these things, k? Or are you just assuming that such mods exist? I don't even know if they do. I'm not very good at finding mods on my own, based just on what my goals are. I have to have a specific name to search for, or a URL to a specific's mod page; other than that I can only depend on blind luck to find what I want.
  18. Do you ever wish that you could go through the earliest levels of the game without being dirt-poor all the time? Well I sure do! If only there was someone who could help me earn lots of money early in the game, so I could be able to afford, you know, ANYTHING. Perhaps a simple NPC merchant, who buys all types of items (weapons, armor, potions, ingredients, books, scrolls, food, AND miscelaneous), and who has LOTS of gold (5 or 6 digits worth). Maybe even one who buys stolen goods, even if you're not in the Thieves Guild (because honestly, who's in the theives guild already by level 10?) Is there any sort of mod like this? There was a great one back in Morrowind, an Ogrim Trader named Grums O'Grimm (IIRC), who was in Caldera. But is there any mod remotely like that for Skyrim? I'm always so limited in what I can do early in the game because I never have enough money for anything good. If I clear a big dungeon with a level 5 character, loot every single item from the place, and then try to sell it all, I'd have to make 4 or 5 trips to various merchants, because none of them would have enough gold to buy all of it, and some of them can only buy some of it (like blacksmiths will only bar weapons & armor, not potions or food, etc). And even after all that's done, I'll probably have enough profit to buy 1 piece of enchanted armor & 1 enchanted weapon, and if I'm REALLY lucky, I'll have enough left to buy small handful of healing potions. I'm basically looking for a way to advance a new character more easily, before I could possibly get more than 2 Speechcraft perks or join the thieves guild or do quests well beyond the borders of Whiterun Hold. I know about the Alchemy-method of earning money, but the woman in Arcadia's Cauldron runs out money buying my potions before I even use all the ingredients I bought just from her. I even used the console to just GIVE my newest character a bunch of gold the other day, but it was tedious because I could only add up to 999 at a time so I had to do it over & over, and still by the time I got to level 9 I was down to my last few hundred gold, and hadn't yet bought anything that cost as much as 1000. I don't care much about realism (the merchant can be a vampire mudcrab for all I care), but I much prefer to do things through actual game play rather than by using console commands or even cheat-glitches like "ogmna infinium." Even if it's an overpowered mod, it still feels like part of the game to me that way. And honestly, having to scrape the bottoms of every barrel & save up my cash for a whole game-year just so I can buy a horse and a couple of spells is already TOO MUCH realism. Might as well be getting Imperial food-stamps.
  19. Hey guys, I'm searching for solutions for this same issue. It's been half-a-month the last comment was made here. Can anyone tell me if the update to SKSE that you were waiting for (to make it work with the latest Skyrim version) has been released yet? I played Skryim last year, & used many mods including SKSE & SkyUI, so I have some experience with them, but I "took a break" (uninstalled the whole thing) in november. I re-installed Skyrim from scratch a couple days ago (3/25/13), which was after Patch 1.9 had been released (though I didn't even know of it at the time), and I did get the latest "Unofficial Skyrim Patch". I installed SKSE & SkyUI, and they both worked great. This was just plain Skyrim (with a handful of insignificant mods from the Steam Workshop that were reinstalled right at the start since Steam "remembered" them or something). Then I purchased, downloaded, & installed all the DLCs (Dawnguard, Hearthfire, Dragonborn), and downloaded the latest Unoffiical Patch for each of them. Started a new character while launching the game for the first time with DLC installed, and suddenly there's this problem: https://www.dropbox.com/s/q5ijumqhop0kok5/SKSE%20error%20after%20patch%20_1.9.png. The game still works, as does SkyUI, but VERY BUGGY. And it only had problems after I added the DLC; playing just Skyrim without DLC, with the 1.9 patch and whatever version of SKSE was available on 3/25, worked JUST FINE. And what's this whole thing about the "beta version" of SKSE vs whatever the newest non-beta version is? I posted in another thread that I found about this topic, and a couple people were saying that the SKSE update which everyone needed to wait for in order for it work with Skyrim 1.9.etc#s, was already out. But when I go to the only site I know of to download SKSE from, there is ONLY ONE current version available on it. Where do you people find other versions to download? Is in the section labeled archived builds? Are any of those "older" versions compatible with the most recent version of Skryim? And honestly how can anyone tell by looking on the Silverlock page whether any particular file is "beta"? That page has never been good with displaying its file version #s accurately. I checked what file I downloaded & installed 2 days ago, it's called "skse_1_06_13.7z". I looked again right now on the Silverlock page, and the "current build" shown there is the same filename... but I looked in the Archive section, and the most recent file in there also has the exact same file name. I'm confused! Are those 2 files on that website different, but just happen to have identical filenames (in which case which one SHOULD I be using)? Or is it just that the "current build" on the front page is ALSO listed in the archive, but is still the exact same file?
  20. Can you please provide me with a link to that page? I tried searching for it both in Google and in the Skyrim Nexus site itself, but could not find it. The only results on the Nexus were other mods & patches related SKSE, but for SKSE itself, and all other links I can find just lead to the same old http://skse.silverlock.org/ (and there's no link on THAT page to any forum or other site that could possibly have any info about this... and yes I did read the Readme). My google-fu is very very weak.
  21. I'm a bit confused by what I've read here... it seems that half the comments are saying "it's fully update & works fine" and the other half are saying "it is not working at all, there needs to be a newer update for it to work." Also my problem seems to be a tiny bit different than what everyone else is talking about, and TBH I'm not even sure where the problem lies, so I'll just describe it & see if anyone understands & can tell me what to do about it. (BTW there a lot of version #s being mentioned for Skyrim and for SKSE, and I'm not very good at recognizing version #s (either in terms of downloading a mod from a website, or checking on one I already have installed), so bear with me as I explain my situation with what little tech-speak I know.) Here's what happened in chronological order. -I bought the game & started playing last July. I used many mods, including SKSE & SKYUI. -I stopped playing last fall, because I could not keep up with all the updates of everything that were making it too overwhelming to use mods in general (and I would NEVER play an Elder Scrolls game without mods). I did not have any DLC by then. -Yesterday (3/25) I re-installed the game & started playing again. Only starting with new saves, not loading any from the past. -I started going my list of mods from the past, just to check which ones were still available & were compatible with the 3 DLCs. I only had enough time to install & test a couple mods, including SKSE & SKYUI. It worked just fine. (Indeed, SKYUI seems to be quite improved since before.) I did get the latest Unofficial Skyrim Patch too. And since installing SKSE, I ONLY use the SKSE Loader to launch the game. -Then I purchased & installed all the DLCs (Dawnguard, Hearthfire, Dragonborn) via Steam. I got the latest Unofficial Patch for each one of them, & looked up the proper load order to use for all of them. -I then started a new character again, with all DLCs active. The game still seems to work, but I started getting an error message about SKSE. Here's a screenshot of it: https://www.dropbox.com/s/q5ijumqhop0kok5/SKSE%20error%20after%20patch%20_1.9.png If you can't open the link to the pic here's the short version of what it says: "SKYUI ERROR CODE 1 The SKSE is not running. SkyUI will not work correctly! This message might mean that a new Skyrim patch has been released; if so, you need to wait for a SKSE update & then install it." The game still works, and even SkyUI skill works, although it's very noticably buggy now. (Here's a screenshot of how it looks now; and btw it looked different than this 10 seconds before I took the screenshot, so even the bugs are inconsistant. https://www.dropbox.com/s/k0k7jlifczw0gdj/SKYUI%20buggy%20screenshot.bmp) Is this the same problem that everyone else is having with SKSE/SKYUI currently, or my problem a different one (regarless of what order of events brought any of us to this point)? Interesting thing is it only started having problems after I installed the DLCs & their patches. The most recent Skyrim patch 1.9 came out before I installed the game, so that alone doesn't account for the problem with SKSE. It would seem that whatever was in the patch that is causing SKSE to malfunction is exclusively related to the DLCs, & doesn't have anything to do with the vanilla game. Anyway, can someone please tell me, IS there a release of SKSE out yet that is updated to work with the recent Skyrim 1.9 patch? And if so, then WHEN was it released, and WHERE can I get it? The version I installed was the ONE & ONLY file available from this link http://skse.silverlock.org/ (right below the top, listed as "Current build") as of March 25th. And the versions of Skyrim, Dawnguard, Hearthfire, Dragonborn, and the Unofficial Patches for each of them, and SkyUI... were all the latest versions that were available as of either that date or the next (it was past midnight in my time zone last night when I got to downloading the DLCs). Now, if the necessary SKSE update has NOT yet been released as of now... then how can I know when it does come out? Where can I look to see news of it being released? The main SKSE website has always been notorious for not listing its file-versions accurately.
  22. Ah, thank you all! It never occurred to me that the program gets & updates the list itself. I don't remember what went wrong when I tried installing & using BOSS the first time, I thought I remembered getting an error message somewhere that said "the list is outdated." Maybe I installed it the wrong way, or was looking for the list on a website rather than from within the program. Either way, I've just downloaded & installed it from the link 2 of you provided, I'll try to run it now & follow the instructions from its readme.
  23. Hi. First off let me say that I'm relatively new to Skyrim; I started playing for the very first time on July 16, 2012. I'm still in the process of figuring out what mods I like or even work. One of the first things I learned about when starting to use mods was that I need several utilities. One of the most popular & commonly-mentioned utilities is called BOSS. It's this thing that helps you made sure your mods are loaded in the right order for them to work. If you're reading this thread then I'm guessing you know what it is & already use it. Well by the time I came to Skyrim, (the NexusMods page for it was old had long-since been locked. I installed it from the link there, but when I tried getting the list to use, I was told it was too out-of-date & obselete. I refer to the list of all mods, which BOSS uses to do what it does. That page links to a completely different website somewhere to download it all from. I had to google for an up-to-date list but didn't find one. (Btw my Google-fu is very, very, very weak, so I usually need other people to find stuff for me instead. Call it a handicap or whatever.) More recently I found the "official" pages for BOSS, but the forum it's on has a rather low limit to how many posts a thread can have, so when the limit is reached, a new thread is made to continue it. It does not, however, have any clear link to a most recent thread, and I don't have the long hours it would take to read every page in every thread, looking for words that say "here is a mod-list that is up-to-date as of game version x.x.x". I'm having to go through this process: Step 1: Open the first page on the Bethesda forums. Step 2: Skip to the last page. Step 3: Click the link in the last post to "New Thread." Step 4: Repeat steps 2 & 3. I'm already up to the 10th consecutive thread, and that only goes up to August 6. I have no idea how many more threads to go through till I get to the most recent. I'm curious: When someone who just installed the game for first time is installing BOSS, or someone upgrades to a new game version & needs to update their BOSS list, where do they find the list in the first place? Where is a website listing it that other people find but I have no clue about? Earlier this week I posted a comment in the page for a specific mod, asking about load order, and one person replied "Just use BOSS to order it for you." HOW DO I DO THAT!? In July, I thought from what I read that BOSS itself had become obsolete, and new lists no longer existed. But since then I've seen people comment in mod pages about using BOSS and something or other about the most recent list they've got, so apparently more up-to-date lists do exists. I just can't tell where they are found. Can someone please post a link to a page here on NexusForums (and/or in a comment to this post) that links to BOSS and to the lists it uses, that is current? If such a page/thread even exists? And if it doesn't exist, can someone please make it for the benefit of EVERYONE who plays Skyrim & uses NexusMods to get their mods?
  24. Well I don't use any custom race mods & don't plan to, but what exactly do you mean by "vanity mods?" I have mods that chance character & NPC appearance (e.g. Prometheus Better Female Boddies, CBBE, Alternative Textures for CBBE, XCE) and one of the next things on my list to try is mods that add more hair options & maybe more face options during character creation. Is that what you mean? Also before I made this thread I google-researched the subject of what effect installing Dawnguard has on savegames, and I saw a lot about this problem of bloating. I'm curious... right now my Saves folder has 74 files in it that have a total combined size 297 MB. Hypothetically, if I installed Dawnguard now, and my # of save files didn't grow very much/fast, how bad would they likely get bloated? Is this enough to be likely to really bog down my system if they bloat up? Or is it usually just a problem for people with far more files than me? Or do bloated save files get to be a hindrance regardless of how many total files there are? Well when I played Morrowind (my first Elder Scrolls experience) I started by making 1 character... and then I played that character for 3 years during which I beat all the quests of the main game + Bloodmoon & Tribunal, and proceeded to do THIS PROJECT of killing EVERY CHARACTER and collecting EVERY SINGLE ITEM IN THE WHOLE GAME. So I started "playing" right from the start and also "studied & learned" along the way. Made another character a while afterwards but didn't go far. Basically the same story with Oblivion (although I never finished the game; I got just a little way into the Shivering Isles content when I had to reinstall windows and I failed to backup one of the folders of data files, making my character & her saves irretrievable). It's only with Skyrim that I decided beforehand to do the bulk of the "research" at the beginning before making a main character, then switch to primariy "playing" and only add small mods over time from then on (stuff that doesn't make major changes/overhauls, that would work okay with a character already far-played).
  25. I'm relatively new to Skyrim, in that I only started playing in July (on PC). I'm still in the (very long & complex) period of learning the game & trying out mods. I have 2 active characters, both of which are for "testing" the game, so I can figure things out like: -what race I'll want to play when I finally make a primary character -what factions I'll want to join (e.g. Stormcloaks vs Imperial Legion) -what mods I like (and which can function with the game & with each other) that I will want to use long-term -what basic gameplay elements I don't like & will want to find mods to fix Really this game is more like a huge research project for me right now and not yet an actual GAME, and so soon after I started, I learn that the Dawnguard mini-expansion is released for the PC. So now that's added to the list of things I need to figure out before I make my real main character. I try searching online for answers to most of my questions but my google-fu is weak, and I usually get clearer answers when I just ask people who actually know. Also, please NO SPOILERS for storyline or quest stuff or anything that I might like to be surprised by when I get to it in mid-game or late-game. These are my questions: When I download DG, what effect will it have on my saved games? Although I've not gotten very far into the game yet, I don't want to have to start over from a clean save. I haven't even killed the first quest-dragon outside Whiterun & unlocked random dragon encounters yet. But I have put a lot of time in one of my tester-characters, and there are still some "big" mods (ones that add large amounts of content or overhaul basic aspects of the game) I haven't yet tested, and some mods I need to test out that affect content I haven't unlocked yet. What effect, in general, will Dawnguard have of my already-installed mods? I'm sure this varies from one mod to another, and I plan to research each one that I use to see if they say if they're DG-compatible or have a newer version or addon out that makes them DG-compatible. But what about ones that don't tell in their descriptions, or whose pages haven't been updated since before DG's release? Will the game continue to work with mods as long as they individually don't change stuff that conflicts with DG, or should I just assume that ALL mods will be incompatible with DG unless their makers have stated otherwise? I know that DG adds a sh*t-ton of bugs/glitches, so the less guesswork I have to do in troubleshooting (like loading the game with different mods active to narrow down what's causing a problem), the better. Also what about mods that only change things like textures & meshes (for example, the Sexy Skyrim set) and don't have any .esp/.esm files to be toggled on/off for troubleshooting? What basic gameplay changes does it add? I know that the biggest deal with DG is vampires (& werewolves), and I haven't yet played as either yet so the changes to them won't mean anything to me right now. But what things are changed from the vanilla game that a low-level character might already have experienced? I'm especially interested in things like UI, the controls, and the basics of things work such as magic, combat, leveling, crafting (smithing/enchanting/alchemy), sneaking/etc, travel, NPC functionality, stuff like that. Is there going to be a patch for DG to fix some bugs/glitches, and should I wait for it to come out before I purchase the add-on? Keep in mind that I'm playing on PC, got the game through Steam, and currently I launch the game itself exclusively using thy SKSE launcher (since some of the most vital & fundamental mods I have rely completely on SKSE). Anything else that I should know while I'm still learning the game, to help me prepare for making a new long-term main character, or that will help prevent my tester-characters from getting messed up while I'm still using them?
