Looking for heavy armour suitable for the thieves guild and dark brotherhood quests for males. Don't mind if it's not as effective as the light armour, I just want something that at least looks sneaky.

[The worst bug ever] The Skyrim crash problem
rawr22 replied to mijans1999's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
I have a 100% stable Skyrim, I use most of those mods except ClimatesOfTamriel (I'm sure this causes CTDs for me), Dance of Death, Footprints, Immersive Interiors, Dynavision and AOS. That load order is definitely not correct. Use BOSS seriously. -
I've spent many many hours since Skyrim was realeased trying to come up with Skyrim installs with various mods that are stable, and failed every time and eventually have to abandon the save and install due to too many CTDs. I've tried to keep mod numbers down, keep to ones I believe are safe, created bashed patches, cleaned .esps and test throughly before playing and saving, but sometimes problems don't occur until hours later. So my question is this: Is there anyone that acutally has a stable install of Skyrim with more than a few mods installed? If so what is your mod list?
-
I did not have this issue with my previous install, but I do now using the same Skyrim.ini and skyrimprefs.ini. No matter what mods I install or tweaks I make to the ini I can't seem to get rid of this horrible middle distance pop-up. See screenshots:
-
Starting a new game did not solve the issue for me, so I've reinstalled Skyrim and only all the texture/grapics mods I was using previously and seem to not have any issues so far so I guess it's not the engine struggling with the textures and effects as I believed, but the scripts as you suggest. We don't have many mods in common, and the few we do I'm sure are not causing the issues, so I still can't narrow it down. Going to start a new game with fewer mods, enabling them over time. I'll post back if I ever find a solurtion, but it's unlikley as it is intermittent and hard to test.

Clearing out the saves has not made any difference.
-
Thanks for the tip. I do keep many many saves at regular intervals (learnt to do that the hard way). Each individual save for my current char is 15mb after hundreds of hours of play, so I'm not sure that it's a save issue. Having said that the current size of my save folder is 1Gb so I'll try clearing them out and seeing if that helps.

I have a lot of mods, as well has large amount of hi res texture/effect replacers. I have a high end machine and have no issues with FPS, stuttering, or loading times, but after 30-60 minutes of play, during area transitions, the game gives up loading new areas. It does not crash or CTD, it will just stop on the loading screen, with the smoke effects still going and I am still able to spin the displayed item. Watching the memory usage shows it seems to unload the old area, but then gives up some time loading the new area. There is no specific area where it does this, and I can't narrow it down to any specific mod. After it happens I can just load my game (it has usually just autosaved so I don't even lose any gameplay) and carry on as normal for another 30-60 mins. I don't think it's anything specific causing it, I think the engine is just stuggling with the large amount of textures/scripts etc. Any tips for improving the stability of the engine in this situation? Any tweaks that improve Skyrim memory usage?

I'm looking for non-combat followers. I like the idea of companions, but they really do change the balance of the game, as well as get in the way of spells. People that you can hire as pack mules, gather herbs, mine, or loot for you but avoid combat would be awesome. I'm aware Vilja has a 'avoid combat' mode, are there any great mods I've overlooked?

I'm looking for an alternative to the vanilla 'go to jail' option. Ideally some alternative to the stat loss but still something to warrant not wanting to go to jail as an easy way to clear the bounty. Bonus if more immersice than the whole teleport in, click bed, teleport out system. If no such mod exists then anything that removes the stat loss will do. I don't mind it with the vanilla XP system but it is too much of a disadvantage with some of the XP mods.

Thanks for the info LargeStyle. I launched Skyrim to try this and the counter has now disappeared of its own accord. I obviously did try restarting the game several times prior which had no effect. I'll remember the key combination incase it comes back later, it is entirly feesible I crouched to sneak and removed a torch at the same time, shift + 8. Oddly enough I just tested this and it does not turn the counter back on.

An FPS counter just appeared in the top left of my screen and I cannot figure out how to get rid of it. I did not install or change anything, I can only assume it must be a hotkey added by something I pressed accidently, but cant figure out what. I use SkyUI, iHUD, and ENB but despite searching, can't find any FPS options in any of them. I don't know what is adding it or how to get rid of it. Can anyone tell me what mod adds the fps counter? Full load order:

As title. Specifically during lockpicking. I'd love for the game to continue while lockpicking to increase chances of getting caught. I've never heared of anyone altering the timescale during menus. Is it possible?

I'm in the process of making my first mod. I assumed if you changed any vanilla scripts it would create a new script file and use this instead of the original if the data file was checked. I just found out the hard way that this is not the case and it actually overwrites the original script forever, and now if I play my game without my mod loaded it is broken. How do modders account for this when needing to change a vanilla script in order for their mod to work? Also can someone send me the original script for TIF__000267E1, it's the guard dialogue "I guess you're smarter than you look" for the quest DialogueCrimeGuards in the CK if it's easier to find that way. I thought it should be the one line "akSpeaker.GetCrimeFaction().SendPlayerToJail()" but I've tried recreating it and it's still broken. Edit: I just found out you need to verify integrity of game cache in Steam for the Creation Kit and not Skyrim itself to get your original scripts back (just be sure to back up your modded ones first). My original question stands though, how do you avoid screwing up someone's game when they uninstall your mod if you modify vanilla scripts?

The first time I was sent to jail in Skyrim, as with Oblivion, I was so disappointed. Teleport in, activate bed, teleport out for negligible loss. I'm currently in the process of making a mod which makes a more immersive jail sequence. You are walked into jail by the guard that caught you, he locks the gate behind you and you have to actually wait (you can still sleep/use T) while your time is served. The guard will then come and unlock the cell and you are free to go. I plan on more content later but I'm just getting the basics working now, so my question is this: How long should jail sentences be if you can't skip the whole thing? They need to be long enough so it actually feels like spending time in jail, but not too long as to make the game really really boring. My first thought was maximum 7-10 days, but that seems really unrealistic for mass murderers. What do you guys think? Also anyone know the vanilla jail times?
-
Can someone give me a pointer in how to get an NPC to walk to a location in another cell after a quest dialogue choice?
-
I assumed it would be a simple dialogue change to the jarls steward allowing the conversation to buy a house earlier, but I'm probably wrong.
-
I'm surprised this does not exist already. At least I can't find it if it does. I hate the fact you have to do most of the quests in a city before you can buy a house there, because by the time you have the house, you no longer need to visit the city any more. I'd like a mod that allows you to buy any house right off, so you can then use it as a base to do all the quests in the area.

Thanks tortured Tomato. I looks like some of those people have the same symptoms as me. Unfortunately it also looks like it's an issue caused by 1.4 and can't be resolved at my end, so no more New Vegas for me. I'm pretty sure it's not related to Freeside though, as I went back to an earlier save where everything was fine and the issue re-occurred about the same time, this time without saving in Freeside.

If I try an load any of my recent saves I get a CTD. I have to go back and load a specific older save, and then I can load the later saves fine. I have these saves: Save A <- Latest Save ... other saves Save B ... other saves This is what happens after I launch the game and the menu loads without any issues, Load Save A - CTD Load any other save after Save B - CTD Load Save B, then load any save after save B - no problems Load any save before Save B then load any save after Save B - CTD I hope this explains clearly enough. I have to load this specific save before I can load my latest game and continue with my game. It has only occurred recently, and I have not added or removed any mods before or after this save since the start of my game, almost 24 hours of gameplay ago. This save is in Freeside a couple of seconds after talking with Veronica and getting the quest 'I Could Make You Care'. I thought it may be to something to do with this quest, but I have since saved after completing this quest and the problem remains. Searching has revealed nothing on this problem. It's a rather odd issue and I have no idea where to start.

I think the whole crafting system needs rebalancing and stacking penalties introduced. I played a mage on master but it got easy and boring when I had -100% magika cost from enchanting, so I started a new thief character, again on master, and with a dagger that does 100+ damage and a 30x back-stab bonus I have the same issue.

I stumbled across a large group of bandits attacking a large group of forsworn, it was about 6v6. I joined in and it was a pretty epic 3 way battle, then a dragon shows up and everyone is fighting each other, me, and the dragon. Pure carnage. The dragon won.
