You are NOT the "king", jerkass!
Ambrya replied to spinspider's topic in Dragon Age: Origins's Mod Troubleshooting
It's not caused by a mod, the game is bug. Get Alistair dialog patch. -
spoiler Don't have to have sex with Morrigan?
Ambrya replied to spinspider's topic in Dragon Age: Origins's Discussion
Hmm, interesting. Probably not something I would do, though. Like I said, I like the icky moral quandary. We're talking about a war, about the survival of an entire nation, possibly even an entire continent. The answers about how to stop it shouldn't be all pat. They should be messy and uncomfortable and requiring some sacrifice. -
Non Massive Armored Wardens? Surely you jest?
Ambrya replied to blkcasanova247's topic in Dragon Age: Origins's Mod Ideas
That makes sense, and I see what you are saying. Personally, I think the massive WC armor is gorgeous, and I would really like that same sort of aesthetic, only in a lighter class of armor for rogues and mages and non-tank warriors. So yeah, what I've proposed would really be more of a redesign. -

Ambrya replied to blkcasanova247's topic in Dragon Age: Origins's Mod Ideas
The crest you have there is the Warden-Commander crest, which is fine if you want light sets of Warden-Commander armor, which is what I've been asking for, but I would think in that case, we would want to make the crest more prominent, as it is on the regular Warden-Commander armor. This is the regular Warden crest, if you're looking for just normal Warden armor. -
Awakening -- Opinions so far?
Ambrya replied to Tikkidew's topic in Dragon Age: Origins's Discussion
I was on Vent the other night with an acquaintance who follows the fan page for the voice actress for Leliana on Facebook, and he said that she made some posts about So there might be a little hope for those of us who miss our Origins companions. -
Was it necessary to make this barely-coherent post again, verbatim?

spoiler Don't have to have sex with Morrigan?
Ambrya replied to spinspider's topic in Dragon Age: Origins's Discussion
While it HURT to send Alistair to Morrigan's bed, as a storyteller I rather liked the icky moral quandary. There was no easy solution--one way or the other, something unpleasant had to happen. Frankly, that's the only thing I found really great about Awakening, as well. Several times, there are decision points where neither decision is one I was terribly happy to have to make. -

Alistair Dialogue patch. The fact that BW hasn't fixed these bugs and broken dialogues is rather atrocious. -
I believe the dialogue trees are messed up with Leliana, so that you don't get certain conversation options if you raise your approval with her too quickly by giving gifts. IIRC theDialogue Tweaks mod corrects this problem. Leliana * Added a mage-specific option to Leliana's dialogue regarding elves; elf mages have an option to tell her they remember nothing before the Circle Tower * Added a "kiss" option to Leliana when at Adore or Love approval; available anywhere, plays kiss scene animation * Includes party banter when kissing Leliana * Asking Leliana to bed will always play the sex scene * Leliana sings: addition of a dialogue option to ask Leliana to sing her song again * PC will no longer lose access to dialogue options if approval is raised too quickly * Adjustments to Leliana's post-Marjolaine dialogue (see readme for details) * Condition added to Leliana's "kiss" so the option is only available if she has confessed her feelings for the PC * Two rather blunt options during the "hair" conversation with female PCs will prevent Leliana from later confessing love (see readme for details)

Request - Authentic Leliana armor

I assume you've seen this? Leliana Item Set I don't think anyone can get it EXACT, but that's about as close as you are going to get. -
Warden-Commander armor for lighter classes
Ambrya replied to Ambrya's topic in Dragon Age: Origins's Mod Ideas
You attract more aggro in heavier armors. I wouldn't do to have your archer rogue drawing the attention of every nearby mob. Besides, it's the principle of the thing. I'm a rogue. I don't do massive armor. -
I'm sure this has been asked before, but just in case, I don't want the subject to remain buried under the header of an unrelated topic. In vanilla DAO I didn't mind handing over the Warden-Commander armor to Alistair and just wearing my light leather rogue gear, but when playing Awakening I was really feeling the lack of Warden-Commander armor on my Warden-Commander. Of course, even once someone released a mod with the ability to transfer DLC content to Awakening, I wasn't about to put massive armor on my rogue. Why should massive armor wearers be the only ones who can wear the griffons? Let's have some love for the light and medium and heavy armor wearers, no?

Mod Alistair kiss scene in Awakenings
Ambrya replied to galesong1234's topic in Dragon Age: Origins's Mod Ideas
Hrm. That could be interesting. I dunno if it would be possible to do this or not. But what if the cutscene was made to shift areas during the scene. (such as throw in different backdrops during different frames of the scene. By adding new/different items to frames during the scene). Then after the kiss have Al say something corny to the effect of "Wow! You really make my world spin around." or some such. There's always my initial proposal. It doesn't correct that atrociously platonic buss on the cheek, but it does offer the possibility of more Alistair interaction. If we are unable to change the content for "Private" who delivers the Warden-Commanders messages at the gates of the keep, we could spawn a new "Royal Courier" NPC carrying a summons from the King. Heck, I even already wrote the message recently while dipping my toe into fanfic: My dearest queen, <blah blah blah> Matters of state aside, I have settled in comfortably at the Bryland estate north of South Reach along the Drakon River. The Brylands are in absence, naturally, having remained in Denerim after that awful business with Howe and throwing in their full support behind me following the Landsmeet. It is a comfortable estate, I suppose, but I am altogether lacking in companionship, and certain matters here are not to my liking. In particular, there is a stubborn lamppost which I appear to be incapable of attending to satisfactorily on my own. The distance from Amaranthine to South Reach is not far, particularly not if traveled at speed upon a horse. If your duties permit you a few days to journey hence, my wife, to offer me an alternative perspective on matters with the Banns and help me with this recalcitrant lamppost, I shall be enormously grateful. Your devoted husband, Alistair Then it's just a matter of spawning the new location and throwing the scene together. Which, alas, is still beyond my skill at this time, but I'm working on it. And, again, wouldn't be too hard to change it to a summons from Anora for those who so desire. Have the letter include an apology for not being warmer in her greeting when she stopped by the keep, and change some of the Alistair-specific references (ahem, lamppost) to something else. -
I think Dialogue Tweaks addresses this. http://www.dragonagenexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=336

Human noble origins correction
Ambrya replied to samidiedo's topic in Dragon Age: Origins's Mod Ideas
You may wish to check out the following mods: Obsidian's Nobler Noble: http://www.dragonagenexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=303 Improved Atmosphere: http://www.dragonagenexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=577 Of Noble Cast: http://www.dragonagenexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=395 All three of these mods address the issue without starting the character with overpowered equipment. -
As for the Warden Commander armor...yeah. For the life of me, I kept wanting my assassin rogue to LOOK like the Warden-Commander, and it just wasn't happening, and I sure as hell wasn't going to wear massive armor just to create the look (though I probably could have and it wouldn't have made the game too much more difficult; as it was, all she had to do was give the darkspawn a harsh glare and they would fall down dead.)

Thank you very much, hdhd. Perhaps once I'm a little more experienced playing with this stuff, I can undertake this project myself. As it is, it's taken me five days now just to put together a very rough, glitchy and incomplete 15-second cutscene, so I'm not ready yet.

I have a bit of a problem. The Alistair morph I use is "Natural Alistair" by Xanthus (http://www.dragonagenexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=626). It's based heavily on the Alistair morph from Improved Atmosphere, but using hairstyle hm_har_hc2a_0. The problem is that this hairstyle, while lovely and perfect for the character, clips through the left brow and comes out the eye socket, as seen here: http://www.dragonagenexus.com/downloads/images/626-1-1264180825.jpg Using the source files from Improved Atmosphere, I managed to recreate Xanthus's morph, and attempted to adjust the brow so that the hair doesn't clip through it. Unfortunately there's just no way to do this and still have the face look even remotely similar to the morph I like so well. And I love the hairsyle and don't want to change that, either. Since the hairstyle in question clips with so many brow configurations (often very severely) perhaps the best thing to do would be to somehow edit the hairstyle to move that one pesky wisp of hair off the brow a little more. But while I am gradually learning my way around the toolset, I imagine that sort of work is going to require some artwork conducted outside the toolset, and is almost certainly outside my skillset. Would anyone be willing to take on this small change to this particular hairstyle?

looking for a modding "mentor"
Ambrya replied to Ambrya's topic in Dragon Age: Origins's Builder Troubleshooting
Thanks again, hdhd. Looks like I chose the wrong "tiny fix" for my first attempt at a project. Grrr. I guess I have one more option, since the mod in question ("Natural Alistair" -- the flaw is the tiny bit of clipping where a hank of hair falls over the left brow) is actually based on another morph from Improved Atmosphere, basically that face with different hair. I know which hair she used, so if I can get the face from Imp.Atmosphere, I might be able to cobble something together. Basically I'm looking to change the brow in the hopes of eliminating the clipping problem. Edit: Feh! Got the source file from IA, changed the hair, hair color and stubble color to match the Natural Alistair mod, then started fiddling with the settings and found there is no possible configuration of the brow height/width that would eliminate the clipping problem without completely changing the face into something much less satisfactory. There is one other close-but-not-quite hair style that won't clip, but I don't like it. All that fuss and bother for nothing. But at least I got to have a look-see at what I was doing. Now I have to figure out which of my other little pet projects I want to see done would be the best candidate for my attempting to muddle my way through things. -

Ambrya replied to Ambrya's topic in Dragon Age: Origins's Builder Troubleshooting
Thank you, hdhd. That was driving me nuts. Now I don't feel quite so stupid, since it wasn't actually me missing something obvious but rather me attempting to do something that simply can't be done (though I guess if it was obvious that it couldn't be done, then I should probably still feel stupid.) I don't have the source files, and the original modder hasn't been heard from for months. I was attempting to create a new morph using the existing values, but there seemed to be stuff missing, or I hadn't actually found it yet. Don't suppose there's a cut-and-paste option somewhere that I haven't found yet? Seeing as I'm not yet familiar with all the settings, editing the values without being able to see what I'm doing doesn't seem like a very good option. -

Ambrya replied to Ambrya's topic in Dragon Age: Origins's Builder Troubleshooting
As an example, here's the sort of thing that I'm stumbling upon, tiny things that are probably insanely obvious and unspeakably stupid, and yet I just can't seem to figure them out. I want to edit a morph that someone else made. It has one teeny-tiny little clipping problem and the creator of the mod doesn't seem to be responding to the users who have pointed the problem out. I figure a good way to get my feet wet with modding would be to fix that little problem, right? I've ready and watched the tutorials on creating a morph from scratch. I get them, I can do that. But I really like this existing morph that someone else already did. I don't want to create a new one. I want to fix the one that is already there. I suppose if I played around long enough, I could figure out how to rebuild the existing morph I want to edit from scratch. But surely there must be some way for me to edit the existing morph, no? But when I attempt to open the .mor file, I can't seem to get the morph editor to appear, nor can I figure out how to access the .mor file from within the morph editor. It's almost embarrassing to ask this, because I'm sure the answer is ridiculously obvious and more experienced modders are probably rolling their eyes thinking, "omg noob!". But that's what I mean when I say I just can't quite figure it out. -
I've been trying to play around with the toolset and reading/viewing tutorials, and I just can't quite seem to really get going on making my own mods. I'm usually quite good at intuiting this sort of thing, just seeing what others have done and picking it up myself, but I think the tutorials just don't suit my learning style. I feel like Helen Keller at the well waiting for sudden understanding. I'm sure that once I have that revelation of, "Oh, THAT'S how it works" I'll be off and running, but I just haven't had it yet. If someone would be willing to mentor me through some of the basics until I grasp the concept, please PM me. Thanks!

Awakening -- Opinions so far?
Ambrya replied to Tikkidew's topic in Dragon Age: Origins's Discussion
I finished my first play-through of Awakening last night. Here's how I would rate it on a scale of 1-10: Monsters to fight: 9 Lots of hack-and-slash fun Goal-oriented quests: 7 I would rate this higher, because some of the quests were really good, except that I found some other quests to be too obscure and a waste of time, such as collecting crap for Wade to make armor out of rare things (honestly, I'm ruler of the keep and trying to build an army and stop the darkspawn from massacring my people. That's the sort of thing where you say, "Seneschal, here's my shopping list, take care of it." More than that, I know I HAD some of the things on the list Wade gave me for those quests, yet when I went to look for them, neither the object was neither in my inventory nor on any of the merchants I had access to. Also, there were at least 2-3 puzzle games I never even bothered with. I hate puzzle games, and several times they pop up without any indication as to their objective or what you're supposed to be doing with them. Relationships: 4 I didn't care about the companions much at all, found triggering their dialogue using objects to be obscure and cumbersome, and I think Oghren was glitched. I gave him every gift I could and got as much approval with him as I possibly could and still he never confided in me so I could finish his quest. Every gift I gave him wound up with a +6 approval, instead of +10, +9, +8 etc. Romances: 1 Thank God I was romancing Alistair; at least I got 2 minutes and a platonic buss on the cheek from my sweetie. Otherwise I would have been S.O.L. I invested a lot of time and effort into that relationship in "Origins" and it became the major appeal of the game for me; to ignore it was highly unfulfilling and really diminishes my psychological immersion into the game. Politics: 10 The one part where they got the immersion factor spot-on was in the politics. There were several decision points where I had to look at things in my role as both Warden-Commander and Queen-Consort of Ferelden. In Origins, my character was very idealistic and egalitarian and wanting to help everyone. In Awakening, often the decision I came to didn't necessarily gel with my primary idealistic "rescue kittens from trees" inclination. In some ways, that transformation actually started toward the end of Origins with the Dark Ritual decision (it HURT to send my love into Morrigan's arms!) but in Awakening, it really came home that doing the humanitarian thing wouldn't necessarily be the best thing for the Wardens or for the reign of the king. As a result, I'd give the total immersion factor a rating of 4.
