I agree with your post, but I want to add to some of your points: 1) In addition, so were the Talon Mercenaries, whose only goal is to keep DC in turmoil. That alone could have more of a story element. Say the Enclave were just a different group formed from Enclave remnants (for now, let's just call them "Remnants") who have more of a dictatorial (rather than a self-destructive and sociopathic) nature and possess the Enclave's technological know-how. They could have hired Talon company to keep DC in a bad state and use them as a false flag so they can move in and rule DC, which would be a symbolic place for their president. They have the resources to give the Talon Mercenaries some incentive to carry out the job. This gives one "black" group some more significance AND the player some incentive to help the "other side" with even more opportunities presented in Broken Steel. What a waste. 2) That new BoS necessarily a bad idea, and the Elder does state the situation properly in game. It's credible. I'd still envision a different name group name though, while the Outcasts are appropriately named "Brotherhood of Steel". 3) Oh God yes, it helps when those locations have some significance, but Megaton and Rivet City could have been more populated too. 4) Following that, it would have been better if Fallout 3's locations gave the player some incentive to actually explore them. Some side quests, true unique items or boss enemies, for example. They don't have to be massive dungeons, just high in actual content.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R Shadow of Chernobyl Ending Thoughts?
GimmeBackMyMoney replied to ImNoGhoul's topic in PC Gaming
I missed it in my first game because (spoilers!) the quest to see Doctor didn't automatically appear on searching Ghost's body, rather you had to complete everything in proper game order (I tackled X16 before X18, funnily enough). I had the original copy of the game without any patches, updates fixed this little "glitch".- 12 replies

Ideally, Bethesda will make a well-written RPG. Realistically, they won't. The could at least make the locations believable and the quests sensible. Choices are fun. Choices which make sense and have a real effect are much better.

Non Steam copy of a Steam exclusive game
GimmeBackMyMoney replied to bben46's topic in Formal Warnings, Bans and Takedowns
I could be one of the lucky few with a fast and reliable Ethernet connection and a relatively stable PC, but apart from a few inconvenient hiccups in the past, I've never had a major issue with Steam. It's a bit sluggish when starting up (and a lot less worse when the client updates itself), but it's a minor price to pay. What I love is not only their sales, but revival of many games which means I won't have to get a console (Dreamcast for Jet Set Radio) or spend countless hours tweaking a game just to get it to work on XP (System Shock 2), let alone XP and a dual core processor which would make such feats near impossible. I understand that convenience can be an issue, but with Steam, it takes a few clicks to get a game and with decent prices, it makes no sense NOT to get a game that way. Anyway, I'm sorry to bring this off-topic, I just wanted to express my two cents. If a game is available on Steam (exclusive or not), I'll get it on Steam, because I cant see a reason not to. -

Thanks for the heads up, I'll register some time soon. I want to learn to build a mesh and fit a texture round it, and create custom animations. I had a dream for an open world mod with New Vegas but it's a little late now. I'll go at my own pace here and may get round to doing one for Fallout 4. -
In my personal patch, I decided to further distribute some PN, CFW and SWP weapons. Believe it or not, Lobotomites are easy and don't appear to be armed with Brush Guns even towards level 30 and there's light armour in the base game which easily protects the player against most of their arms, so after adding a DT negation effect to rifle rounds, I though it would be a good challenge to bring assault rifles into the Big Empty, and the Lobotomites were to start spawning them from Level 15. I started the DLC between Levels 20 and 30 and never once saw an assault rifle. In addition, I created levelled lists for lobotomites to spawn cosmic knives, knife spears and throwing knife spears. The knives were made in Big MT so I saw no reason why they shouldn't spawn. Guess what? They also never made an appearance. A couple would be sold at the Sink and never again after the vendor container was refreshed. However, some custom levelled lists DO work, as the lobotomites properly spawn a Grease Gun (CFW), Thompson M1A1 (HH) and 12.7mm SMG, all added to a custom progression of "large calibre SMGs" which in turn was added to the list of lobotomite weapons. All levelled lists I mention here (the "WithAmmo*" types) were properly added to that list of weapons too. Finally, lobotomites happened to be the only group of NPCs so far with this issue. Is this really just a chance thing, or have I unknowingly made a mistake?

Unrealistic expecations on modders.
GimmeBackMyMoney replied to gunslinger6792's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Discussion
Not to mention that some simply forget. I've only recently gone through most of the mods I downloaded and given them endorsements, and the uploaders kudos. Weapons can be messy. I've seen some of the earlier comments in the Classic Fallout Weapons and some don't realise that the intention of many weapon mods isn't to create an exact replica of the real life counterpart. Linerunner had to put up with a lot of crap. Thankfully, the offenders were swiftly shot down, but with increasing popularity (hence more comments) this can be difficult to do. -

Thanks for your reply. I'll look/ask around regarding animations. I'll look around the existing pose files, but this likely won't have what I'm looking for. -

GimmeBackMyMoney replied to Dark0ne's topic in Formal Warnings, Bans and Takedowns
Unless it falls under public domain, I don't think so. At risk of post necromancy: I guess including Arrested Development's chicken dances as part of Wild Wasteland appearances in FNV is out of the question, but I may as get that voiced from scratch to properly integrate it into the Mojave anyway. I just need someone who sounds like Jeffrey Tambor and animations for that insane chicken impression. -
game breaking bug maybe?
GimmeBackMyMoney replied to razzops3's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Mod Troubleshooting
Do you use the quicksave and autosave slots? I ask because - and I hate to say it - this sounds like a broken quest caused by a corrupt save. This issue can be solved by loading an earlier save if you created a lot of manual saves. There are ways of salvaging corrupt saves but I'm unfamiliar with the methods and their reliability so I'm not qualified to say anything else on that. If not, you could try exiting the facility and doing something else for a bit or fiddle with some game settings. Sometimes these things can "sort themselves out". -
When I registered, my favourite episode of South Park was "The Passion Of The Jew".

Tell us about your character
GimmeBackMyMoney replied to SoggyWaffle's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Spoilers
Name: Chuck Gender: Male Age: Presumably under 30, maybe under 25. Race: Hispanic with ginger combination facial hair and pompadour hairstyle. Combat Style: Big guns, unwieldy melee weapons and grenades. Hits hard and without finesse. Specialties: Guns, Explosives, Lockpick, Repair. Dabbling in Energy Weapons and Barter for all that expensive gear. Also a bounty hunter and debt collector. Weaknesses: Speech and Medicine, goes hard for big weapons which take precedent over common knowledge, booze, robo-scorpions. Likes: anything that is either heavy and automatic or goes boom, huge targets, power/combat armour, Legion for fodder, trench coats and dusters. Dislikes: Nightstalkers, Cazadores, Pyramid Head, Mannequins, desert eagles (what a stupid weapon). Wants: more heavy weapons for my arsenal, to get everyone in the Mojave to dance to "I'm Your Boogie Man". Would mention my own base but I already have The Sink. Maybe add David Mitchell as a companion and a radscorpion pet. Fears: Carry limit, addiction to Steady and booze. Friendly Factions: All except raiders, powder gangers and Legion. Enemy Factions: See above. Companions: ED-E, Veronica or Boone. Love interest?: None. Caps? Do caps count? Man, this sucks. Parents: Can't recall. Early life: Can't recall. Teen years: Can't recall. How did he/she become a courier?: Hey, I need money for my big weapons and ammo. -
At risk of bringing up an old and repeated discussion, it's as said in many posts in this thread. The writing is poor, there's a lack of roleplaying, some locations don't make sense and the setting is nonsensical for its period. I still love the game. The physical world depth keeps me captivated even after experiencing the superior writing of New Vegas. That's something Bethesda did do well. Some of the side-quests are a little silly (like the one at Canterbury Commons) but they were fun. Just too far between. Opinions on story vary. The few who like it find it more emotionally involved due to having to find your father (which IS a valid reason to like it), but on the Enclave's appearance I can't bring myself to care. I always found them one-dimensional, sociopathic, self-destructive and kind of boring. However, they should have died out by Fallout 3 since their main base of operations was destroyed in Fallout 2 and the NCR picked off remaining platoons. The game would also stay more true to the originals if the Outcasts were the real BoS and the BoS were given a totally different name (or better still, didn't include them). These inconsistencies (among many others) and the lack of decent writing is what make some fans of the older games hate Fallout 3 (though most just miss the old way and don't go down the self-pity route). I think Bethesda just took liberties and I can accept it as "fanon", but Little Lamplight was a very bad idea. Bad idea. All of these aren't relevant to whether or not I enjoy the game, but they are valid criticisms.

shut up about fallout 4
GimmeBackMyMoney replied to jamestitan55's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Discussion
Of course most points we raise are personal preferences, sometimes we just like discussing these things. The only extent to which I agree is that there are more of these threads than needed. If you're referring to my point, I said that New Vegas had lots of weapon background, something I'd like to see in Fallout 4. Fallout 3 did that for most of its arsenal but we were still stuck with generic combat shotguns and flame-throwers. I get some fun from drawing inferences from a weapon's in game design to determine its background if it isn't given one. For example, the assault carbine looks more like an M4 Commando or a Model 733 (both by Colt), or at least bear a stronger resemblance to those models than a standard M4. According to Sawyer, the marksman carbine is loosely based off the POF Short Barrel Rifle used by paratroopers which are present in the Mojave due to its vicinity to Nellis. There are many companies present in the universe - Wattz, Yuma Flats, General Atomics, Glastinghouse etc. - who make energy weapons and most likely manufactured the unnamed models. Rockwell pretty much do a lot of the heavy firepower and Flambe do flamethrowers. However, as much as I enjoy this, I feel as if I shouldn't have to, even though the difference in game-play is negligible. I know it's silly, but those additional details can help the role-playing experience so it never hurts to include them. They don't have to be real life weapons or exact copies, I just like a bit of in game background. It isn't a complaint, and I won't raise one if Bethesda include more generic weapons. It's nothing more than a "wish", and most of these threads are nothing more than wish lists anyway. -
Help with choice of weapons
GimmeBackMyMoney replied to InsaneBlackRockShooter's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Discussion
It's the choice of these two, with the Marksman Carbine viable for longer ranges. I'd avoid the 12.7mm SMG since the ammo is rare and expensive. Likely not an issue since caps are easy to get hold of, you just need to find vendors who sell it in high quantities. -
I loved Fallout 3. It was severely lacking in good writing but it was fun. However, there's a lot of room for improvement. I don't mind a big open world with lots of locations providing that the locations are believable, relevant and worth exploring, which can compensate for fairly boring writing (for me). I like shades of grey, choices and consequences for my actions. I like the fast travel in Fallout 1 and 2. I like the first person real time gameplay but it could be more challenging, and third person could do with some improvements. Drawing from that, I'd like Bethesda to acknowledge that console gamers aren't that stupid and like depth too. I like weapons with a background (New Vegas did that since most were either based heavily on real life weapons, or they were made by General Atomics/REPCONN/Whoever). I like it when things happen for a reason or make sense, but bring in more fun side quests anyway. The main player shouldn;t be the centre of attention. For God's sake, balance the levelling system. Seriously. No skill perks. Bring back traits. Let us start with our own story. Whether or not they bring in dual-wielding (courtesy of FO3 fans) is irrelevant to me (I mean, why play the realism angle when going unarmed is completely impractical?) but I don't want it - or any potential gimmicks for that matter - to be a substitute for quality. And don't bring back the Enclave/BoS. Just don't. Todd Howard shouldn't be part of development. Failing that and we end up getting another Fallout 3 set elsewhere, I'll be disappointed but I'll still play the game and maybe even thoroughly enjoy it. The physical world depth in 3 makes me get back to it, despite its embarrassing writing, but it shouldn't be a priority when writing an RPG.

My plugin causes a persistent crash
GimmeBackMyMoney replied to GimmeBackMyMoney's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Discussion
Solved the issue. It was with the dead NCR soldier in the coyote den. I just deleted the record in my plugin and now it works a treat! Thanks for the heads up guys, I really appreciate it. -
The area this occurs is around the park near California Sunset Drive-In and the short passage to Canyon Wreckage. Using New Vegas Bounties, it's near Randall's hut. Whenever I move towards the area, I get a CTD. Whenever I try to examine the worldspace in the GECK, it crashes. I can't find, for the life of me, what's causing this to happen, especially considering I changed nothing in that area . Could some please help me or point me in the right direction? Because I'm absolutely not redoing my patch from scratch. Under any circumstances.

Can the official Companions talk to each other?
GimmeBackMyMoney replied to Jonlen's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Discussion
I only ever noticed it with the Companion Sandbox mod (or the name is something similar) and it's usually just generic greetings and goodbyes. NPC interaction isn't as detailed as it was in Rivet City and Tenpenny Tower. Just an observation. -
What's your fighting style?
GimmeBackMyMoney replied to Flipout6's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Discussion
Playing as a brawler is so much fun and tactical, especially when running Monster Mod. However, I'm more for mid range. I will always use some kind if rifle with a reasonable rate of fire (lever-action like the Medicine Stick, and/or the M1 Garand). I end up drawing the BAR more often than not too. -
Weird things you do in Fallout
GimmeBackMyMoney replied to PetesMcGueets's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Discussion
Weird or not, these are things I always end up doing: Regardless of the type of character I play, I will always collect rare, expensive and DLC-exclusive weapons fully modded with WME mods. I always hope to find a H&K L30 Gatling Laser (I always use the CFW mod). I will never side with the Legion since there is more to do to help the NCR. Plus, they are completely and utterly unrelatable. I also never have, besides going with their ending on occasion just to see how my decisions play out. I do the same thing with the Powder Gangers - their quest, I Fought The Law can be completed by destroying them so why not go with that? Their patrols keep on attacking me so they don't deserve MY help. I kill Oliver Swanick, Malcolm Holmes, Tomas and/or Jacklyn. I make ALL my characters look just right, male or female. Or I get lazy and go with one of the male presets (they're usually good enough) and use Mojave Delight for females. But I'm also fussy about hairstyles and facial hair. I like switching to third-person view on occasion just to see how dashing my character looks. All brawls are done in third person view. Especially if I'm wearing some sweet Power Armour. This leaves me at the end of the bell curve, apparently. I must produce one set of Gecko-Backed Reinforced Leather and Metal Armour and usually equip Boone with the leather armour till I get hold of the Scorched Sierra PA. I don't nuke the NCR, I just have all LR locations unlocked by default. Just because. Veronica always gets the Assassin's Suit. I usually lean towards the House ending. My characters are usually given a name associated with the type of characters. For example, Rosie Riveter uses PN's homemade weapons, the railway rifle and the H&H Nail Gun. Garrett is dressed in the Hazmat Suit and a black hood from a mod, with his weapons being any knife, the cattle prod, mines and throwing spears as the closest thing to arrows. The Demolisher specialises in heavy weapons. However, I don't always stick to these weapons due to a lack of self-restraint on my part, nor do I always make decisions and choose dialog options that would suit that character. Though I try to most of the time. Cass and Boone get plenty of ammo and dynamite belts to go with their outfits. I mod the game so that over 90% of weapons (both vanilla and PN) are given proper (or better) weapon names and even managed to improvise some entirely fictional ones too.
