  1. hi again I may not be a modder (they do do a lot of great work) I DO have around 3yrs experience if not longer with playing morrowind. the only other trick that I know of that could possibly help you is to set morrowind to run in a window. to do this you select options on the launcher and click mode(bottom left) to set it to run in a window, then you need to set the game resolution to one level lower than your desktop resolution.(information from the mge sourceforge page) I still recommend at least checking out mcp, (87000+) downloads actually I have thought of something else you can try you say you have a printer is it connected if it is try disconnecting it before you run morrowind. I remember reading this somewhere think was for oblivion concerning hp printers but MAY help?? all credit to whoever / wherever I read that if it does
  2. hi okay hope this helps you that could be that you have morrowind installed to the default program files folder? if you have try installing outside of program files then try again. If it`s not that it could be that you dont have the required files i.e: at least directx 9.0c aug 2008 (info from sourceforge page) Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable. there is a full guide here. My link link to sourceforge page other than that hopefully someone else thats got 3.8.2 installed could maybe help you out? good luck in getting it sorted
  3. hi yes that is good advice from Themisive the goty is highly recommended also I am not using M.G.E OR M.P.P but am using M.C.P have just tested alt +tabbing three times with no ctd. So if you are not using M.C.P would recommend very highly as improves stability of morrowind dramatically although it does not directly state a fix for this issue. so may or may not work for you. hope this helps good luck
  4. glad to help  had a job finding a good map myself.
  5. this map at pes claims to have solstheim included My link there is also a 1.4 version here thehappycat though i got a browser warning when i clicked the download on this page! hope one of these is what you are looking for
  6. you could try the links on this page that Ithildin recommended in the post here http://www.thenexusforums.com/index.php?/topic/277732-will-a-nvidia-geforce-9800gt-help/ maybe of some help I have not tested yet as still waiting for new gpu but a lot of people seem to use these hope these help you
  7. I use XP sp3 and I used the mcp and put the exe file in the morrowind folder worked perfectly for me. great improvement to the game. I am not using steam version so check the read me to see if you need the patch? If you use another os (i.e vista or 7) follow Fonger`s advice he knows what he is doing mcp is unofficial patch so if you do need to install to different location add to morrowind file after and should be good to go once you run it from that folder. IF does ask about overwriting just say yes to all if it goes wrong morrowind is very easy to re-install
  8. You only need to check the english master file , I made a mistake there! you replace the ini file after you make a complete copy of morrowind and install arktwend. also rename your Morrowind folder while you install arktwend as the guide says that you may get stray files in Morrowind folder if you dont!!! hope that helps you
  9. Have found this site while looking at cards: http://www.gpureview.com tells you everything about each card including power hope you find it useful
  10. the file should appear exactly as this: Magic_Cards_Regular.FNT Except you dont see the dot and FNT should be grayed out If you have changed the file before you may find you have to Re-install making sure you take out Tribunal and Bloodmoon or they wont work and wont re-install Good luck
  11. thanks Fonger and Balagor both sound like very good advice though still not quite sure what to go for though have found two cards in my price range a 9600 and 8600 but struggling to decide also have to be slightly careful as power supply is only 450w and pretty sure both of these cards would be okay in my system one actually states needs 450w minimum think that is 512mb ddr3 the other is 1024mb ddr2 and cheaper also have been using uesp as rough guide
  12. Unfortunately the 9800 is now out of my price range now luckily I checked again before buying and wasnt actually a 9800 and was useless! was well disappointed !! am looking at older cards so that Oblivion has better chance of recognizing it after all we all know that Oblivion gets tetchy with anything too new! but if you or anyone knows of card that is not too expensive that will give good performance with Oblivion, price range of £50 to roughly £70 wish I could afford more but that is about as much as can afford right now  but thank you for your post. Whoops meant to say thank you to ilthid and fonger for their posts as well. ilthids being especially useful. stutter was the worst problem, lag seemed to be on certain dialogues and was not heavy lag also tried a 256mb card as experiment while in the shop and got smooth graphics but crashed quickly so didnt get chance to test out. thanks again all
  13. hi could any of you knowledgeable guys or gals out there be able to help me please? I have just purchased a new pc to run Oblivion a dual core athlon64 5200 2.71ghz 2gb ddr2 533 ram (supports overclocking) my problem seems to be graphics being stuttery and some of the dialogue causing lag? and was wandering if a nvidia geforce 9800gt help my game? as the current graphics is integrated nvidia geforce n630a (512mb) on an ASRock motherboard and oblivion defaulted to medium settings because of unrecognised chipset sound is also on board so could be an issue to look at as well? sound card sorted also was running in 800x600 also tried Very briefly on 640x480 (default medium settings) which was worse. any help would be greatly appreciated
