Hey, I have been modding Oblivion for years now and have always had a similar mod lineup but recently purchased a gaming laptop with a high end card and thought about going all out on some Elder Scrolls modding. Now I am used to having nearly no crashes at all on most of my builds for Oblivion in the past but I have never ran all the high def textures, I always used the Lite versions of QTP3 and never tried RAEVWD, etc. I have QTP3, RAEVWD, OBGE (just godrays and cell shader on). Did all the INI tweaks, 4gb enabler on the EXE, so on and so forth. I have always used PCB, OSR, and Streamline on my older (now low end) gaming rig so during my first install on the new PC I went with those. At first I was experiencing crashing rather often, mainly during zoning/loading. I removed PCB because it seemed I didn't need it since I was only using the Cell Change buffer from PCB since Streamline was doing the loading/zoning clearing. I kept crashing during zoning and sometimes when equipping items in my inventory so after some further research I made the following changes to Oblivion Stutter Remover: bReplaceHeap = 1 iHeapSize = 1000 That seemed to make the game playable with about 2-3'ish crashes per hour, sometimes less. What I am wondering is if Streamline's purge on loading/zoning could be causing crashes? The only thing I have turned on in Streamline right now is the Streampurge with the following settings (I just turned off PurgeOnTravel to see if it is causing crashing): set SLh.SLmode to 3 ; Memory Purge Mode (1-6) set SLv.PurgeOnTravel to 1 ; Purge memory on travel & zone? set SLv.PurgeOnWait to 1 ; Purge memory when character waits? set SLv.PurgeOnSleep to 1 ; Purge memory when character sleeps? Oh and I am also using "Clean-up" which is found here: http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/24606/? but I know very little about this mod or whether it can cause crashes like this. I think the crashes were occurring before installing Clean-up however. So I guess my question is... What could be causing the crashing when I change equipment in the inventory menu? And could crashing during zoning be mod conflict or is it most likely settings in OSR or Streamline?
  2. I am looking for a good mod to change the way experience progresses so I don't have to spend those early levels "training" my character. Any suggestions? I have read on a couple but they seemed to have some serious issues (at least there were lots of posts about problems).
  3. Oh god it wasn't MMM after all... I am still having the problem. It IS with custom races however, I believe its just Cute Elves since I tried it with Shadow Elves and no problem. What the heck... Edit: Well it seems the problem only occurs when I open the console and keep playing a while (with cute elves). So perhaps it was Cute Elves all along that caused the strange door offset in Bruma when I opened the console... And knowing is half the battle.

  5. I narrowed it down... It is the base file for Marts Mutant Mod that is causing the texture loading problem. I figured out that it is because I am playing a custom race (cute elves). When I start the game as a normal race such as breton there is no problem. It says that MMM is not fully comparable with custom races in the readme but it says to just load the race after MMM, which I did. I guess that is not enough, however. So I guess the problem is solved, heh. I hope I can get CD working right, I will most likely drop MMM since I really like my custom races.
  6. Yeah, I used nifscope briefly to make a few follower mods with Apachii hair. It just gives me a migraine thinking about looking through all those lists in nifscope. Its like combing the desert, Spaceballs style. The good news is... I figured out that the dark textures I am having on Roberts Male Body (and most likely the other flickering and missing textures) are coming from MMM. It may be one of the (many) addons. I am trying to single it out now. No clue about Creature Diversity though, it seems as though there have been issues with textures with that mod in the past, however. Edit: It is the base file for MMM that is causing the texture problem. Ugh, thats a shame. Both MMM and CD seem to have issues. It is possible it could be mod conflict but I am a real nazi about rooting out bugs and I cannot imagine what it would be. I will most likely keep CD and drop MMM if I cannot figure it out.
  7. When I ordered my laptop I wanted a 2 TB hard drive and I had no idea it would come raid 0. They had no other 2 TB option available. Frankly raid 0 is a terrible idea, IMO. If I had it to do over I would go with a 1 TB drive. I extracted the whole bsa but it came up to be about 450 mb where the original mod was 750 mb. o.O Perhaps some of the files were hidden? Or the bsa format drastically changes file size? But this is referring to Creature Diversity. As far as that goes I am talking with the modder now and tried installing a small patch with the textures extracted for the goblins/ogres/ghouls. It didn't seem to change anything so I assume it is the file pathing. I am just not ready atm to dive into nifscope and troubleshoot that deeply. It very well may be the way the modder intended it to look for all I know, he hasn't gotten back with me yet. As for the other missing textures that fix themselves with saving/loading... I really have no clue. Each time I change the mod setup in my game I completely reinstall it since I keep the base game/dlc/essential mods (obse, obmm, boss, etc) in a zipped file backed up, its actually pretty fast. That way I know absolutely that problems are not from uninstalling/installing mods to many times. MMM had a rediculous amount of esp's and I have reduced that number by half and I'm going to run through again, not using the console, and see how it turns out.
  8. Oh, defragging the hard drive. I thought for some reason you were using the term in a way that pertained to modding, lol. Yea I defragged right before installing Oblivion actually but perhaps I should do it afterward since the game is over 30 gigs. I have noticed in the past that defragging can cause an ever-so-slight amount of stuttering or loss in framerate at times. I also was wondering if perhaps it was me using the console (opening it). With Better Cities when I open the console it sometimes causes the doors in Bruma to offset so I pondered that it may cause other issues as well. I am playtesting now without opening the console. I have installed Oblivion many many times over the years but usually kept a very similar list of mods, sticking mainly to the top 100 or so along with a few extras. Just recently I decided to add the monster mods like MMM and Creature Diversity and started noticing this issue, but it just doesn't "feel" like the mods have anything to do with the textures. My intuition is saying its a loading issue or something. I have a raid 0 setup on my hard drive and wonder if that could cause the textures to not get read correct at times, like you mentioned before.
  9. I am unfamiliar with defragging, what exactly does that entail? Are you saying it may help to dump the files out of the BSA for mods like creature diversity where textures or meshes are showing up black? If so how does one do that? I did notice a BSA extraction tool on nexus at one point, not sure what it was called though.
  10. I removed Creature Diversity before it occurred to me to save/reload but its possible. There were other people. however, who reported the same creatures not having correct textures in Creature Diversity's post section. I could reinstall Creature Diversity (I think it works with MMM with a bashed patch) and see but come to think about it, I did go to the same dungeon several times... and the Ogres and Goblins were the same everytime so I don't think it was the same bug. Also, in Creature Diversity it seemed as though the "extra" monsters had texture issues and not the normal spawns even though they were named the same. With this bug EVERY cultist had darkened textures until a reload. However, in two seperate games it was ONLY the cultists bodies that were dark and always the head of the monk (main guy who you give the amulet of kings to) and martin that flickered. If it persists I may remove MMM and see if it stops. MMM had a ridiculous amount of esp's but I managed to get it down to about 6 (from 12+). As far as the bashed patch goes, the only mod listed as being required to merge is COBL. All of the other ones (including MMM etc) are listed under "mergeable" but it says they are only "suggested" and the only reason for merging is to reduce the number of esp's. That is why I asked if those mods could be left unmerged since I am nowhere near the max esp limit. To clarify, I am talking only about the first part of the bashed patch that pops up and asks which mods to deactivate and not the second part where you actually import stuff and merge the mods.
  11. Hello, I am wondering if anyone might have any insight into a problem I am having lately with textures in Oblivion. I have been modding the game for years now and never seen this happen. It appears as though textures aren't always loading properly, in one instance (the first I noticed) was in the starting dungeon with the dagon cultists and Roberts Male Body Replacer, when I removed there robes there bodies were black. I saved the game and exited then reloaded and everything was fine. The second occurrence was with the water outside around the imperial city, when I fast traveled to Red Rose Manor it seemed as though the water didn't load so again I saved and exited the game then reloaded and everything was fine. The third occurrence was with head textures on the NPC's at Sky Haven Temple during the quest where you deliver Martin there for the first time. The head textures started flickering strangely. Reloaded the game, everything was fine. I was wondering if it could be the bashed patch or something? I have 125'ish esp's currently, below is my load order if that helps. I use the archive invalidated installer, of course. To be honest I didn't notice this, if I recall correctly, before installing Marts Mutant Mod 3.8 but I could be mistaken. I was thinking about not merging esp's in my bashed patch (leave everything checked), would that have any effect on stuff not loading correctly?   12. Hello there, I am having a texture issue with male and female khajiit. I am not sure but I am reading that it may be something to do with a foot dds file? But really I have no clue. Any insight into this would be greatly appreciated, thank you.   13. Yeah, I just found out everything you said by trying it myself. Changed the slot to "hat" rather than head and it worked but no hair, lol. Well it was worth a try I guess. I suppose that is why it hasn't been done by someone else...
  14. I am looking for a mod that adds circlets AS helmet replacers. Not a mod that adds circlets that use the (A) amulet or (T) tail slot. So far I haven't found anything so I decided it might be easier to just take a circlet mod like KDCirclets and convert it over to use the helmet slot. What would I change in the CK to do this? I have made a few follower mods in the past so I am somewhat familier with the CK. Would this be fairly easy? Edit: Heh, I gave it a try, changing the armor slot from amulet to head. It seems that the change makes the whole head dissappear in game.
  15. Is there anykind of compatibility patch for Better Cities and OCO 2? I am thinking of doing a fresh build with these two mods and was just curious as to how well they work together. Better Cities is a must have for me but recent versions have forced the extra NPC's (that personally I do not like) without an option to turn them off. I am hearing that some of them look really bad with OCO 2, especially the hookers/girls in bravil, etc. Has anyone played with both of these mods installed? If so, how does it look? Is it worth it to upgrade to OCO 2 or should I stick to OCO 1 (which has a compatibility patch built into Better Cities)? Any insight would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
  16. ALright, I have this annoying unresolved issue with Sharing and Caring Companions and its compatability with some other great mods like Robco Certified, Real Time Settler, and FNNCQ. During certain dialogue options the "friend" dialogue appears and cannot be closed, you then have to open the console and type "CAM" for close all menus. After searching far and wide I have not found a fix for this minor annoyance. So what I was thinking was... Perhaps a simple mod that lets you bind a CAM command to the keyboard? Hotkeying it wouldn't work since hotkeys are disabled during dialogue, I assume, but a keyboard binding would be a fantastic fix. Is this possible?
  17. Yes, I checked it both before and after installing every mod and patch. It happens in several places that I've seen but I haven't played the game much yet since modding it. The most noticeable is in the inn in Riverwood right after installing Enhanced Lights and FX, also in the bards college in Solitude. Riften is alright until I install Beautiful Riften then several doorways start bugging out as well floor tiles/patches. It really isn't that bad of an issue, I guess... I am assuming only so many lights can be rendered at one time, I just wish there was something that could be changed in the ini. I thought Oblivion had a setting that controlled that but I forget.
  18. I encountered a problem where certain textures do not reflect light correctly unless you are very close or angled just right. The first time I experienced this was right after installing Enhanced Lights and FX, in the inn in Riverwood. It happened in the bards college in Solitude also. Here is a video showing the effect in Riften: I do not think it is linked to any particular mod but rather a game engine limitation. I was hoping there may be some setting that can be changed in the ini or prefs that might make it better? If anyone has any insight into this matter it would be greatly appreciated, thank you. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I did a fresh install and checked several areas after installing each of the following mods, the problem happened with the install of Enhanced Lights and FX.   19. Hey guys, got a problem with flickering lights but not the usual problem. I have my skyrim prefs tweaked to fix the common flickering lights issue, this is a bit different. It seems as though the light from various light sources is only hitting certain objects when I face a certain angle or get very close. I took a video, here: Maybe there is something in the ini or prefs that can be changed to fix it? I assume it has to do with "enhanced lights and fx" but my torches and lantern light does the same thing, it seems to affect patches of ground, door frames, and even certain countertops in various inns, shops, etc. Any insight into this would be greatly appreciated, thank you.   20. I haven't noticed a huge difference in the Project ENB, on a side note. I installed RealVision but it looks like crap unless you run the full version and 25 FPS just won't do it for me. I like to actually be able to play the game. RealVision did look good though on max settings. The only thing I notice with Project ENB is the godrays from the sun, regardless of whether I am running on max or performance settings, DoF is noticeable but thats it. I really like EL&FX, I love playing with darker interiors from CoT and EL&FX. Someone said something about an "ELE" mod that was compatible with both CoT and EL&FX but I haven't found it yet.
  21. I am running CoT w/Darker Dungeons, Enhanced Lighting and FX, and Project ENB. Torches or lanterns are essential in most dungeons and I like it that way but someone said there are certain interior lighting mods that may augment the experience. Any insight would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
  22. Oh no I use BOSS for my "load" order, I need an INSTALL order for NMM. Since many of these overwrite each other. BOSS almost always says a bunch of files have dirty edits but sometimes modders don't want their mods cleaned in BOSS (for some reason) so I only used tes5edit to clean my masters/DLC. I did clean beautiful whiterun and riften however. Why wouldn't modders clean their own mods? I rarely deviate from the top most highly reccomended mods, except for some armors, so I would hope they are clean. =p (I know that is wishful thinking, eh?)

The issue I was having was some of the textures indoors (like the inn in riverwood) weren't reflecting light from torches/lanterns correctly. They were dark unless I got real close and turned to a certain angle, then they would light up. I thought perhaps this was from one of the texture mods overwriting static mesh improvement mod or vice versa but really I have no clue. I can deal with the light issue one way or another but I would REALLY appreciate some insight into what order is best to activate these mods. Should I just NOT overwrite SMIM whatsoever? Or perhaps just overwrite it with vivid landscapes?
  24. Hmm I can't seem to find out whether or not Enhanced Lighting and FX is compatable with Project Reality ENB. I wish there was a guide somewhere on all of these mods, the authors seem to make little effort to even explain what many of them do.
  25. I understamd that an ENB is more or less a post process shader or something like that but I see several mods that seem to rely on or reccomend them, such as Vivid Landscapes. What ENB should I look at or do I need one at all? I checked out Project Reality because it seems to go with the Weather Lighting Overhaul but I prefer to have a ncie balance between gameplay and beauty, with little stutter and good FPS... So an ENB may not be something I really want. Any advice?
