The US is the only nation in the world that has freedom of speech specifically laid out in its Constitution , so when it comes to ICANN its on that basis that it operates . And because of this having the US be the provider for it allows any US citizen to challenge any rules and regulations that someone may try to place on how it operates. Basically if any rule/change impinges on free speech it can be stopped by normal citizens . And for the rest of us around the planet that protection allows us to at least get the first phase of how the internet works on an open basis , only those living in countries that routinely censor the internet dont get that , but its secondary in effect . If you give ICANN to someone who doesn't have freedom of speech as a core value of their society then it can be curtailed on a primary level , on an architectural level. If they give it to the UN that has to take into account the wishes of say a country like Saudi Arabia , China , Russia or worse yet just sell it to some private Chinese company then the ability to challenge anything on how the internet functions is simply gone , not just for US citizens but everyone. Look many can attest to the many times I speak out against the things America does , but on this issue its just way better to leave something like this in American hands , not because I trust them but because they already have Constitutional laws that lend to protecting how the internet functions and if someone tries to mess with it , normal people can rise up and say hell no. If we lose that ability then 5 years from now we will be losing a whole lot more.

Your technically right , but thats because male and female was a biological determination made by medical doctors at birth. So there was no need for any State Legislature to pass any kind of laws in its regard. Most of this has to do with Title IX legislation that was passed by Congress . In that legislation sex was purely a medical determination based on biology , no where is there the concept of self identification of ones own sex or gender. What is now being foisted upon people is a new ideology of what sex or gender is . What is happening is an Administration on a beaureacratic level is using the power of those agancies to redefine an act of Congress based on their own ideology of their own making. To say before HB2 North Carolina simply did not have any law against being in the wrong bathroom is disengenious , because there was no need for anyone to even consider making a law , because they had understood it had been decided under Title IX and its medical determination of what sex was. As for the ordinances Cities may be passing , again they are being told to do that by an Administration that is telling them they must do so to be in compliance with agencies under their control or face consequences . You claim that NC is playing petty tyrant by dictating on high to cities , yet they are at least doing that by passing legislation , the federal govt isn't even bothering with legislation . If they were they would re introduce the Title IX under a new definition of what sex/gender is and pass it through Congress as was originally done. One of the definitions of tyrant is an absolute ruler unrestrained by law or constitution . NC at least passed their law through the legislative process , the Obama Administration did not , they just made an arbitary ruling. Your claim the Feds are just maintaining the status quo is simply false. Now thats not to say I agree with the NC law and certainly not for the reasons such as family values , etc , etc that they commonly cite , but I also disagree strongly with how the Feds have done this. If a law is to be used differently from its original intent a court has to determine if it applies or is deficient, at that point the judiciary would instruct the legislative to make redress if necessary. And the allowing of trans males to compete against women is just insane , take running for example , the male and female pelvic structure is different , females is more designed for the purpose of birthing and that is not as conducive to runnin , the male on the other hand is very well designed for runnin , thats due to the fact we would go out and run down the gazelle or run from the lion and our pelvic structure incorporates that over 100's of thousands of years of evolutionary design , women dont have that and its simply unfair to pit them against trans men. Or take something like boxing or wrestling , mens bones are thicker than women and we have generally 10% - 20% more muscle mass for the same weight , meaning we are going to be able to take and dish out more force . No its not , not at all. Showing how the Gov'ts of Europe are obfuscating the truth to serve a political bent to the detriment of their own people is exactly how authoritarianism begins . Having the Dir of German police services banned because of what he reveals to the German people is authoritarian , having the German girls video banned because she is telling people whats happening is authoritarian and there many Gov'ts across Europe for various reasons are engaging in the same tactics and they mostly if not all are heavily left leaning Gov'ts. Hmm.... we must have studied different collapses of the Roman Empire. With Alaric's sack of the city in 410AD the western Med fell into the hands of the Visigoths who fought for expansion of their territory for 97 years until they ran afoul of the Franks. Without the empire most Gallo-Roman, Britania-Roman infrastructure collapsed / degenerated within 50 years.Only the Eastern Roman Empire maintained any stability of infrastructure post sack of Rome. The didn't call this period the beginning Dark Ages for nothing. No it was the same one but was focused on the socoilogical impact of common people and how they thought and felt about the events going on in the aftermath of Romes fall and how so many of them just continued on believing/hoping that it wasn't over . There were some places in the Roman provinces where the last of the functioning aqueducts/sewage etc took almost a hundred years to fully break down. Other places broke down quicker because they were looted/burned/people killed or carted off. What we studied wasn't about the political/military events but the impact on normal people living at that time. Its like studying how the romans who remained in Britain after Rome left , how did they adapt. Which actually makes the point. The Franks,Gauls,Visigoths are all struggling over the corpse of Rome and there are still people holding onto something like the water an aquaduct brings and when it finally breaks they realize its truly over because no one knows how to fix it and the Dark ages come . This didn't happen all at once in every place , different rate depending on what happened , but in the end the Dark Ages came. Europeans seem to be acting like those people in many cases.

Your correct in that the outcome of the rabbit hole is undetermined , but your incorrect in that your seeing things as they are . The idea is you dont know what it is your seeing and enter the rabbit hole anyway and instead of coming to your original intent or path down the rabbit hole , you are beset by forces or events beyond your control and how they turn out is dependent on how you fall which is not in your control because your falling. In university I studied the Fall of Rome and one of the great curiosities is that for 50 or so years after it had fallen and in the provinces outside of Rome for about 100 years , life continued on pretty much as normal . The Romans had built infrastructure that was built to last and people not knowing what else to do just continued on thinking someone would come along and take over or it would somehow fix itself , but when those things that had been built to last started to break down , that was when people began to accept it was truly over. All these events , terrorists attacks , migrant crisis, mass rape crisis , failure of Govt to protect you and so many more are all indications that the systems which you believe will serve you are breaking down , the true absurdum is that your already Alice in the rabbit hole and you play these mind games with yourselves to avoid that truth. I'm seeing the same thing too and I can't even count the times people on this site from the right who have called me socialist/leftist/whatever simply because I think they are full of crap (which they usually are) but in this case I'm forced to say it seems to now happened on the left where people are using tactics to prevent others from speaking and it seems to be getting more authoritarian. Here's a video from a Brexit rally that I found very disturbing. I'll explain why after. It may surprise you but its not that they were assaulted that disturbs me , what disturbs me is that as it was happening no one from all those people standing around did anything to stop it , it disturbs me that some girl comes up and tries to rationalize the fact that they were assaulted and it disturbs that the police would just accede to their actions like as if thats whats acceptable at a rally. This is disturbing because it shows a normalization process in action . If that kind of thing becomes nomalized then we are in serious trouble.

I think Leadsom will win . Of all the people who were for Leave she was the most calm and lucid in her arguments , unlike some of them who were being opportunistic , she had very well explained reasons as to why she thought it best to leave . Gove and May on the other hand seemed to play a game of hiding in the background and let others take the lead and see how things shake out , then come to the fore as the bodies fell to the wayside.

One thing I have to point out about the Brexit vote . In 1973 when Britain voted to enter the EEC (forerunner to EU) the vote was 67% - 33% and it at that time was expected only to be in the 55% - 58% for range , but the got a surprise result because so many of the young were so enthusiastic for it. Back then immigrants accounted for only about 5.5% of population. Now go to the Brexit vote of today . The turnout was roughly 70% and in the immigrant community which now makes up about 13.5 % they by all indications voted remain 70 - 80% . If you were to remove the immigrant vote and adjust for the population drop the Leave vote would shoot up to at least 60% and maybe make the 67% mark (mathematician would have to figure out exact number) . This means there was a rough 30 point shift from the results of 43 years ago and if you look at the demographics of who was largely for the Leave vote it was older voters . The same people who largely 43 years ago made up the enthusiastic young voters , the baby boomers . The question that needs to be asked is what are they seeing that would make them vote against something that 43 years ago they were so enthusiastic for. A 30 point shift is a significant shift. To give you an idea of how significant that is , Scotland which voted roughly 60 - 40% remain , would see many of those races tighten up to a close 50 - 50 split with a few voting to Leave , though overall still slightly leaning Remain. Just thought that was an interesting contrast of voting patterns from 1973 vs today.

I would say there is little chance of Trump being President barring a miracle or catastrophe that is unforseen. He had a chance after winning the nomination but he just seems incapable of not saying stupid stuff , even when his handlers script what he should say .. he goes off on his own tangent . He is plunging in the polls (was tied with Hillary , now Hillary has around double digit lead) , Republican donors have failed to step up to fund a campaign and the media are no longer following every word he says no matter how outrageous , so it appears the free media train he road to the nomination is over , there are numerous reports his campaign is running out of money and there are down ticket candidates who are complaining to delegates that he is ruining their chances to win (Governorship's , Attorney General , etc) and pressure is mounting to launch a challenge at the convention. But the money is the big thing , unless all the people who voted for him can come up with a billion dollars to give him a chance against Hillary ,there wont be a Trump Presidency.

I've said this before when people keep just creating posts of endless quote boxes , it becomes a situation of having to scroll up and down , up and down just to see who said what and at a certain point it just becomes too tiresome (and confusing) trying to figure out who said what. One thing I can say about the reaction to Brexit is that its been pretty hyperbolic . Read an article where they compared it to the Cuban Missile Crisis , as if leaving Europe and a nuclear apocalypse were comparable. And this was in Canadian press ... like jeez guys take a pill. Next thing I'm waiting to hear is how there is a team of leprauchans from Ireland following the rainbow trying to find the plug to sink the place. (Prolly part of a long held Irish re-unification plan)
