New distribution permissions options for all files
PurplePigeon replied to Dark0ne's topic in Site Updates
What? The EULA places limitations on what you can do with New Materials produced with GECK and you also grant Bethesda the right to do pretty much whatever they want with them. But it does not make New Materials Bethesda's property, nor does it deprive you of your own rights (except for limitations which are explicitly specified in the EULA). Actually, in some countries it's impossible for a person to transfer their intellectual property rights to someone else, except if they work for hire. You can grant a license to do something with your property, even an exclusive license but not make something you create someone else's intellectual property. I don't think it matters because you still use CS to produce ESP. But ESPs are not Bethesda's property anyway. -
I love Caravan! Except that NPCs suck at it so much that it's just a way to milk caps from them. If only they could be more challenging... But we'll probably see people creating web servers to play Caravan online with other people. Or probably there already are some.

What error do you get?

I've got an impression that this last statement is correct: the Form List specifies items which are NOT to be removed. Probably the second argument is RetainOwnershipFlag and the third or the fourth specifies the type of items to be removed.

Probably the last one I got. My game currently shows version 1.1.1.271.

Will Bethesda release a stand alone version ?
PurplePigeon replied to covari's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Discussion
Sure. But in case of computer software: 1.You are not breaking into someone else's house. You are breaking into your own (rented) house. Security at the entrance are adamantly refusing to let you in without a special pass which you for some reason must obtain from an office which is in another town, but it's already midnight and you don't want to sleep on the street. So it's possible that you'll resort to finding another way in. 2.One determined burglar can show the way to enter to thousands of casual crackheads. Actually, same discussions as this one have already happened many times on the Internet. -
Will Bethesda release a stand alone version ?

Unfortunately, these schemes do not stop pirates. Cracked versions come with no Steam and no protection. This may actually lead to an opposite effect, namely "better than legal" problem: people may pirate the game simply because they don't want to cope with all the limitations. I'm not promoting piracy. On the contrary, these are my thoughts on what causes people to pirate games. -
Will Bethesda release a stand alone version ?

But then your argument, to which I was replying, is also invalid. I just wanted to say that one can't compare a computer game to a car. But even if one can, Steam is not an insurance company. -
Do you also use Windows 7 64-bit?

Yeah, but you can choose an insurance company that you want to register your car with. Besides, this insurance contract exists for a reason: the insurance company will pay money if something happens to your car. Moreover, you are not prohibited to sell or give your car to someone else, while you cannot detach a game from Steam account. Besides, a computer game is not a car. It's not like I'm complaining about Steam. I've bought FONV on Steam, so nothing has changed for me. But I don't like current trends in copy protection systems. I really don't like them. I don't like them so much that sometimes I even think about stopping playing copy protected games completely (or even all proprietary games). -
Well, I've heard a lot of complaints about New Vegas GECK crashing in seemingly random conditions. Some of these bugs are reproducible, some are not. Fallout 3 GECK also used to crash a lot, but many crashes only occured on Windows 7, especially on 64-bit edition. For this reason, I've decided to run this pool to see how GECK behaves on Windows 7 and on other OSes. Please select your variant(s). Although "a lot" is not a clearly defined measure, let's say it means "crashes so much that it's really annoying, and I don't know how to avoid these crashes".

On my machine (Windows Vista, 32-bit) it doesn't crash when editing faces and updates normally. What exactly are you doing (step by step)?

I had the same issue (PC, Steam, European release). It was fixed by one of the patches.

Is the perk's FormID the same in all versions?

New distribution permissions options for all files
PurplePigeon replied to Dark0ne's topic in Site Updates
Now it works. Thumbs up for this new system! Well, OK. I still think it would be a good idea to add an option like "See the special instructions" just so that people don't get confused, but maybe it's not really necessary. -
New distribution permissions options for all files
PurplePigeon replied to Dark0ne's topic in Site Updates
The system seems to be broken. I was trying to set permissions for this file, but it sets them to whatever it wants and not to what I specify. Furthermore, when I go to "Edit file details", the settings are different from what it displays on the page. I'm using Windows Vista SP2 with Opera 10.63, if it matters. By the way, some people allow redistribution without permission but with special conditions (like GNU GPL or the requirement that one must notify the author (but not ask for permission) before redistribution). Maybe some option for this could be added? -
Good luck!

The problem is that all quest rewards are given out through scripting and in different ways. Changing all of them may well make your mod incompatible with most other mods out there. Maybe you could create a script that would monitor the amount of caps the player has and, say, remove part of player's income. Or maybe you could introduce some money sinks to the game. Like taxes, or road fares (pay a toll of 100 coins to this bandit in glass armor and you may pass), or an interesting quest line that would require the player to collect a large amount of money. But the best way to do this is difficult, maybe not even viable for a single modder. It is to create a total economy overhaul, not only reducing quest rewards, but also changing prices, chances to win in a casino etc.

FOMM, FOSE & FO3Editfor New Vegas
PurplePigeon replied to Gopher's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Discussion
Well, they are not specifically stopping you from using the GECK, probably. The GECK just uses some libraries from the game, which may not be unlocked until the release. -
Well, I guess 0-day owners have already finished the game...

I hate this friggin' Steam
PurplePigeon replied to PurplePigeon's topic in Fallout New Vegas's Discussion
Oh, I see. I wasn't experienced with pre-ordering through Steam. Hope they fix this bug since people on their forums also seem... frustrated. -
OK, here I am sitting, waiting for the New Vegas to launch. It says: unlocks on October 18, 3 hours left... 2 hours left... 1 hour left... I know I'm in Europe, but well, since it says "3 hours", they may be going to release it as a digital download for all users simultaneously, right? Well, no. The time comes and they simply switch the notice to "Unlocks on October 22, approximately 3 days and 8 hours left". Couldn't they... you know... just say so from the beginning? Sorry for the outrage, just venting off. Oh well, I see people hating Steam on Stema forums already.

Well, Fallout Wiki FAQ says it does, though I don't know where they got it from. Although in my opinion it's still too early to request the option to continue lpaying after main quest. Who knows, maybe it will be easier to simply not finish it until you are ready.
