  1. Kudos for a nice bit of detective work! I expect it's because Sensual Walks uses the generic description to set the walk, and then leaves it that way for the character. Might be worth messaging the mod writer and highlighting it as a bug - you may get an update that way :)
  2. Another pagefile related hint for Win7 users: Stick a decent sized USB Memory stick (or a SD Card if you have a built-in reader slot) into the machine and use Readyboost.

     

    This is usually considerably faster than your hard drive for a swap file, and if the memory eventually gets flaky it's easy to put a new memory card into the slot and set it up again. It's also a massive improvement on Laptops as most have a 2.5" 5400rpm disk which is slow access compared with a 3.5" 7200rpm disc in a desktop.

     

    Also try out the 3GB Memory mod

  3. Data folder - that is to be merged with your existing data folder, i.e. the contents need to be copied into your existing folder.

     

    The save game files need to be copied into your save game area in your my Documents folder.

     

    Pluggy needs to be copied into your OBSE plugins folder.

     

    Then, if he sent you everything you need, open the savegame and it should work.

  4. Being as the system is a laptop you are a tad limited on upgrades, but try the following as resources allow:

     

    (1) Faster spinning hard drive - many laptops are 5400 rpm, a 7200 (hard to get and expensive) can make a fair difference.

     

    (2) If using Windows 7, plug in a USB memory stick and allow it to use readyboost.

     

    (3) If not on Windows 7, google for Omega video drivers and try them. On my old XP rig the difference compared with the stock drivers was startling.

     

    (4) There's a "3GB Memory Patch" for Oblivion which allows it to use memory over 2GB - can possibly make a difference although your milage may vary.

  5. Yes I considered that but then arise more problems with some of the "light armor" not making sense i.e. glass.

     

    I quite agree - "glass" armor always struck me as being very silly. When i bother to think about it at all, I come up with something like "The Ayleids must have had some sort of ultra-strong plastic which the less developed races refer to as glass".

     

    The whole point of some light armors is that they DO resist piercing damage - but then are usually far more vulnerable to (say) bludgeoning damage. A mod which allows for that would make big advances on the realism front.

     

    What you are thinking of might be best handled as an extended version of the MOBS - Medieval Oblivion weapon Balancing System. Adding types of damage would seem to fit in well with their concepts.

  6. In that case I'd guess the horse armor uses the same slot as the saddlebags, and as only one can be displayed, the armor wins. If you change the load order so the saddlebags load last, that may change. But without "armor with saddlebags" and "armor without saddlebage" meshes for every possible armor, they aren't going to show up at the same time.
  7. I guess it may depend on your circumstances, but in my opinion, "99% PG-13 with only a few explicit bits thrown in" is pretty much what I'd expect from real life. Granted, I'm not a great drinker so I seldom bother with a pub, but how much of YOUR 24 hours do you spend being explicit in public?

     

    Now, a mod which added a lot of very explicit PRIVATE lives would be fun, especially for a character like mine (specialist sneak thief). What DOES that Dunmer alchemist with a penchant for necromancy get up to at night...?

  8. I can only install the game to a C:\ drive and therefore continues to say that i am a limited user when i know for a fact that i am not

     

    You should still be able to install it to c:\Games\Oblivion - that'll stop the UAC biting. Once that is done, other stuff becomes far easier to fix.

  9. That looks like the correct approach to me - the Microsoft Security Essentials interface gives you a little more control and allows exclusion of specific processes, which is one of the reasons I switched to it from AVG.

     

    Item #BF on the list - you need to adjust the BOSS sorting order to move the delinquent esp file back in front of the VWalk esp. That shouldn't kill frame rate, but the VWalk bits won't behave til you do it.

  10. Adding to the Realism comments - if anyone has any ideas how to fix Reneer's Rain Mod they'd be very much welcomed by a lot of people. I've recently tried it for a second time and got the oft-mentioned instant CTD problem as soon as I go outside, so left it alone again.
  11. OK, time for some more detailed info.

     

    Post the following info please:

     

    Operating System

    Processor spec/speed

    Graphics card spec

    Oblivion version, whether you have Shivering Isles installed, whether you have installed any unofficial patches, whether you have things like OBSE / OBGE installed.

    Where you got Oblivion from (Original disk / Game of the Year disk / Steam / D2D / Impulse / whatever.

     

    and in spoiler tags

     

    The load order of the mods you have installed (ideally either the BOSS output file or exported from Wrye Bash)

     

    That little lot will allow the clever people here to have a good look rather than trying to guess what you might have installed.

  12. OK, you've got plenty of frame-rate killers in there, so there's a fair bit of room for tinkering.

     

    Firstly - Streamline - that CAN reduce FPS more than it helps on some rigs - did you add it after you had a problem to try to fix it, or before? If before, try disabling it and adjusting the ini file back to default settings, as it adjusts the ini dynamically to even out performance, NOT to "make it faster" as some people claim.

     

    Secondly - Unique Landscapes IS a frame-rate killer. In particular, there's an area of wheat which would bring a Cray supercomputer down to the speed of an abacus in the Barrowfields area from memory. Look for FPS patches for any xUL mods.

     

    ImperREAL City will also slug the fps somewhat in that area.

     

    You mention AVG. Have you set it to NOT do "on file access" scans? Oblivion accesses dozens of files on the fly, and a virus scan as it opens every one can cripple the game. If you can exclude processes from the on access scan, exclude Oblivion.exe along with OBSE, OBGE and the OBSE Loader.

     

    Defrag - I use defraggler and it speeded my game up a little - the basic Windows Defrag is pretty rudimentary.

     

    You have lots of companion mods - are they all together someplace, or are they spread out through Cyrodiil? If they are all together you may get a performance hit when the CPU has to handle all of their AI packages at once.

     

    Check for any mod clashes too - for example #B9 and #BA look, to me, like maybe only one should be installed. things like that can slow the PC down as it then effectively runs the associated script twice. BOSS should tell you in the comments next to each file if that is the case.

     

    Then, of course, there are the "hidden" mods which have no ESP, like (for example) QTP3. Try the Reduced and Redimized version for very much the same effect with less load on the system.

     

    But I think, fundamentally, you have a slower CPU (2.1GHz) and will therefore struggle a bit. Something closer to 3GHz basic clock speed would make quite a difference.

  13. Firstly, are you using Windows 7 or Vista, and if so did you install the game in the default place. If so, double-check the files are going into the correct place as the User account Control "feature" often prevents this.

     

    Secondly, did you follow all of the instructions for the first exchange poster, including all of the backing up and renaming files? Again, double check WHERE the files end up. then do the archive invalidation stuff, as otherwise it may still try and read the poster from the original compressed bsa file.

  14. It's five groups of mods, because otherwise it's very incomplete. I also use assorted body replacers (because I can)

    Duke Patrick's Archery Overhaul (I tend to play snipers)

    Argonian Beautification / Scripted Argonian Feet

    The equivalent mod for Khajiits (currently in development)

    Better Cities & Unique Landscapes

     

    And I agree about Reneer's Rain Mod - darn Bethesda for such a massive bug in the first place!

  15. We had a short discussion on Night Eye mods back on Page 3 - there's one called "Less Overpowered Night Eye" which looks interesting. As soon as Razorpony has a pre-release version of his "proper-foot-shaped2 Khajiit ready to go, I'm going to start my first Khajiit character off and have a try (probably a sneak thief so I'll call him "Crouching tiger" I think).
