It always has, it always will. The whole service provider BS is simply a thank you donation to Nexus, which is totally optional and isnt exclusive to Nexus. Name a modding site and they are likely on that same list. Chesko singled out Nexus because he wanted to shift the blame.

The mod authors giving Nexus a small percentage is the same as us buying a membership or donating directly, and Dark0ne has pointed this out many times now. This isnt an argument because i want a fight (lol) its me stating facts, thats it.

Compatibility is the problem... and Bethesda's growing reliance on the modding community to "fix" the inherently glitchy games they make. No Bethesda game I have ever played even loaded the first time I booted it up. It is ONLY because of communities like this one that I am even here writing this post.

In addition to this is a few comments I have read about the other 3rd party tools, including NMM, that are almost necessary to be able to effectively mod the game.

Yes you can disable BUT it doesn't always stay disabled. AND those overwrites....left my game folder looking like an explosion went off in the folders.

If you consider that bullying, I'm not sure what world you live in. As I understand it from his posts, he's staying neutral at the moment because he understands both sides. I also do not see any point of arguing with someone who is incapable of see things from only one perspective and have such a fragile self-esteem.

HE ONLY BENEFITS.......ONLY, if someone CHECKS THE BOX that says "Send 5% of the earning for this mod to the Nexus", there are also checkboxes to send 5% to the makers of NifSKope and Blender as well.
Why aren't you complaining about those two things possibly getting 5% whenever someone checks the box for them to receive 5% of the income?

If a modder DOESN'T check that box for The NEXUS, or NifSkope etc then the Nexus and NifSkope etc get NOTHING, ZERO, ZIP, ZILCH, NADA, NOTHING, is sent to the Nexus, NOTHING....

The Nexus isn't getting a cut of any mods being sold on SteamWorks UNLESS THE MOD AUTHOR CHECKS THE BOX to let the Nexus have 5% of the sales as a "Thank You"

So we have established that one of the first thing anyone learns about modding skyrim is 'FFS dont do it on steam workshop' due to messy compatibility / overwriting issues meaning that for the uninitiated it will end in game crash and endless frustration, required reinstall of the whole game. integrity bla bla...

 

Now Valve aren't that stupid that they dont know this too right? So why are they kicking off this paid mods scheme with skyrim? Is the contention that anyone that mods skyrim on the steam workshop just a 'dumb feck to be milked'?

 

I mean regardless of who gets what cut and the ethics of whether a paid mod isnt a mod anymore and whether skyrim modding outside of steam will be outlawed in the future etc... doesnt the modding community have a responsibility to it's newly paying 'subscribers' that they are doing it wrong in the first place by using the existing steam workshop process to mod skyrim at all?

Compatibility is the problem... and Bethesda's growing reliance on the modding community to "fix" the inherently glitchy games they make. I can see how people can take the service provider as betraying them but the way Valve put it and how it comes out of their money is good and the reason it too. It's just that associating them with them at all will get you a lot of flak. I really don't like what Valve has done with this paid mod thing. Just keep doing you, Dark0ne. It's fine by me.

If you consider that bullying, I'm not sure what world you live in. As I understand it from his posts, he's staying neutral at the moment because he understands both sides.
