  1. Not sure how retroeffective the unofficial patch is regarding this bug? FWIW though, BOTI is one quest I could either never start or proceed on without the USKP back in ye olden days. The unofficial patch completely fixed it.
  2. Hey Moksha  Mod = any modification to the game, inclusive of textures and meshes. Plugin commonly means the mod has an ESP or ESM file (unlike texture/mesh-only mods that, as you know, don't always require an ESP file to affect your game). Inactive mods would mean mods that are...not ticked in your manager, therefore not seen or experienced in ypur game.
  3. Agreed, the settlement feature doesn't exactly rock my boat either and have no time to manage NPCs, fight off raiders etc. A mod turning them into true towns and villages, with reasonably interesting residents, hooking into the radiant quest system + offering new small quests.... ....would be splendid.
  4. We can't 'borrow' Fallout 4's vanilla assets. Bethesda doesn't allow it, even across games made by them, and thus it's not permitted on Nexus either. Other than that, I'd be pretty interested in seeing a recreation of the Mojave Wasteland with FO4's upgrades. But only if the mod's timeline is set some decades after the events of FNV because I have zero interest in playing the same old quests all over again.
  5. At a guess since I've never used either mod, you also need another mesh, the PrincessWig_1.nif. Filepath is _AWPSYLVANAS\wig\PrincessWig_1.nif It looks like the author of the Sylvanas follower set it up as a head part, which would mean editing your character's race to use. You might not want to do that, so I suggest trying this: duplicate an existing helmet ID and import the PrincessWig that way. It will act like a helmet but it uses a body slot different from the hooded cloak, thus both hair and hood/cloak should appear on your character.
  6. Have you tried experimenting with dds 'videos' of lengthier duration? It would be interesting to know the limits, if any.
  7. It's probably NOT Bethesda having the say-so in this, it's Microsoft and Sony. If the latter say nay to adult mods, nay it will have to be. I also doubt Beth will disallow mods that touch a subject they (Beth) plan to handle in official DLCs. Really, the question is what leverage/ USP Beth used to get those two companies on board. That must have been some persuasive talk from Howard or whomever, hah.
  8. Okay, so we whittle it down to 'prevention of pre-release piracy'. Making the game Steam download-only (which, to all intents and purposes, it does turn out to be) would have achieved this without the charade of getting people to buy a disc containing far less than half the full content. As for the question of how much net gain is had from preventing pre-release piracy - well, unless Bethesda is willing to release hard figures, it comes across as vacant optimism on their part. And it still doesn't justify selling their customers a product with about as much value as a plastic tea coaster. The only response from them that would make sense to me is 'We had a target to meet regarding sales of physical units on all platforms' and that still wouldn't amount to anything but a pretext. None of this matters now anyway. I suppose I'm just taken aback at the complacency of their tactic.
  9. Well, Mr. Hines was clearly referring to the foiling of pirates with boats and guns out on the Pacific Ocean who intended to make off with PC versions of the 12 million units shipped out. This plan was largely successful. He was clearly not referring to the certain other group who have unfettered access to the internet in their own homes and who, from what I gather, had illegal versions of the game uploaded to certain sites on the same day as the official release oh no definitely not this group how could you think such a thing.
  10. OP has my sympathies. Work keeps me away from home at a place with pretty janky internet and I was sorely tempted to get the physical disc, even if it meant getting a tad distracted from my job, but then (luckily!) decided to keep focused on my career rather than advance those of Messieurs Howard, Hines & co. Not disclosing the fact that the bulk of the game needs to be downloaded borders on fraud imo. It's a plain skunk move no matter how you dice it.
  11. That's the most informative post I've read on the problems surrounding Snip usage, thanks for taking the time to post it. The transparency displayed by the xEdit devs is always GREATLY appreciated. I never used TESVSnip, jet4571, since the CK was already out by the time I picked up modding as a way to pass time. Still, I'd say there's a patent difference between producing a corrupted esp and producing an esp capable of destroying saves (which can happen due to any number of factors). But those of us in this thread may be preaching to the converted. I guess the bigger worry is how long Snip mods will linger in the community, causing oblivious users to wind up with broken games 4 years down the line, and how many of those users will end up screaming at mod authors who've done nothing wrong, thinking their mods are the culprit. Incidents like that, you know how mod comment threads are like.
  12. No, the current policy is good. Otherwise the site's going to turn into a haven for race supremacists and all the rest, and then you'll see how well that goes. If there's even a recognisable site left at the end.
  13. Right. And those two modders are among the few who could tell you about skeleton metadata plus what it takes to get new skeletons/animations working in Skyrim. Maybe get in touch with them or just wait until someone comes along.
  14. Thanks for the link, Varek. Good to see heads have already been butting over the subject haha, and the thread is pretty much a reprisal of the arguments I read on my own hunt to find the cause behind my corrupted savegame back in 2012. Maybe I've been more reticent on the matter of TESVSnip than I should have been. As I recall, one of the symptoms of a TESVsnip corrupted plugin was what I took to calling the 'sudden void syndrome'. You zone through a door and find yourself in a void instead of the interior cell you expected. Other users experienced other symptoms. All of these problems vanished - never returned to my game even using the 'dirtiest' of mods - when the suspect mods were removed. In short, I'm one of those who had the misfortune of using a TESVSnip-created mod and experiencing the lovely results. The point here is not that you end up with a corrupted save, but that your entire game becomes unplayable. However I am in partial agreement with jet4571: the use of Snip doesn't automatically guarantee a corrupted esp. I know of one mod where the author did use TESVSnip which led to no noticeable corruption...but the only reason why I knew it wasn't corrupted was because I could account for the errors it threw up when it was run through TES5Edit or the Creation Kit (EditorWarnings.txt - very handy). Most of the errors were due to author carelessness/ indifference to cleaning/what-have-you. None of those errors were due to TESVSnip. And with that said, and with the prospect of boatloads of incoming new modders, consider this a 'cards on the table' scenario. It's your choice and decision to use a Snip variant, or mods made with it, nobody's preventing you from exercising your freedom. I hold the firm belief that people have the inalienable right to the pursuit of misery as well as happiness  Go in with eyes wide open.
  15. You can dig around for the exact figures, but as fun as modding is, console sales outstrip pc sales. Bethesda doesn't regard PC as their largest market. Obviously, with their plan to bring console modding, we might see more active support for modding as a whole. Even so, and regardless of what one feels, there's no obligation to go to the trouble of giving us an official kit/releasing it early. The CK is pretty much a version of what the devs use to make the game, stripped of 3rd party features they can't legally release to us, and rebuilding the tool for us probably takes time. There's a lot of reading material on TESVSnip over on the Skyrim side of Nexus - sorry, bad time for me to dig up links so you'll have to do the searching, or not if you don't want to. If FO4Edit is out, should be relatively safer. edit: horrendous formatting.
  16. Sounds like something wrong with collision? Can you link the nif?
  17. BGS has no obligation whatsoever to rush out the CK or make it available from day one, and anyone with a scrap of sense would prefer them releasing the kit when it's good and ready, not a minute before. Believe me, that they bring a kit out at all is a huge favour, not a duty. No, the only people we can blame is ourselves for being in such a tearing hurry even when plenty of voices are telling us to exercise caution or patience.
  18. It would be great to have the mechanical equivalent of pistol whipping - using a weapon in more than one way - specifically, the ability to wield a mage staff as a one-handed weapon which was kind of largely absent from Skyrim, maybe only when it's out of charges.
  19. Best way to test, load up all the new land mods you'd like to have in your playthrough and see how it fares for you. It will probably go well because this is generally correct, and you won't find any significant performance drop when using those mods together. I'd suggest cutting back a bit on textures even if you're running a good machine and even resizing heavy textures that those mods could contain. Something like Helgen Reborn is the only odd one out in your list, since it isn't actually about a new land - it modifies the vanilla Helgen area (presumably, haven't played it). It's a good bet the mod authors know what they are doing and have done as much as they can to optimise and eliminate bad edits, script errors etc.
  20. Nifskope needs to be updated and it's got approximately all of one person working on the update, nif plugins need updating...so, far's I know, not yet. Someone more aware could chip in with better news.
  21. This might help Discussion on custom race behaviour et al
  22. I don't think they are so bad, not when I think about how Shepard got a slight fluttery flap to her wrist in ME3. Wish I could erase the memory horror of it.
  23. Okay, I'll bite. :P Always good to have more scripters. How about making it so you can hire Uthgerd (warrior at the Bannered Mare) by challenging her to a drinking contest instead of a brawl? The motive here is so you can get her as a follower even if you're playing a wussy non-fighter. Bonus points for these optional elements: - she walks to the bar and starts drinking - your player follows her and starts drinking - a fade out and fade in - she forcegreets you and tells you you've won - she then becomes available as a follower Extra bonuses if you dice roll a win/lose situation. Feel free to reject the idea if it isn't your cup of tea :P
  24. No, if I'm not wrong the USKP (or USLEEP) team permit the unofficial patch being used as a master file. But I suggest downloading TES5Edit from the Nexus, and using it to drag and drop the changes from the unofficial patch into your mod. That way, it won't inconvenience users who don't use the unofficial patch. Though really, everyone should be using the unofficial patch.
