I've used that mod before, it's pretty decent. I'd second that recommendation. There's also ACE - Athyra's Comprehensive Enhancements mod that splits long & light bows and their respective arrows, and also gives every combat, magic, enchanting, speech, smithing & armor skill tree a full once-over. There's an option to add what you want without changing the other skill trees, also. Also, as an added bonus, there's a quest and/or weapon mod called "Much Ado About Snow Elves" that adds Ancient Falmer arrows that look HUGE in 1st person. But since they're not vanilla arrows, they don't "mesh" well with the ACE mod (don't know about SkyRe, though), meaning if using a longbow the damage bonus doesn't apply and arrows do default damage (but default damage is still decent), but there's zero conflict (that I've experienced thus far) with using the two mods together.

When I read the title, the first thing that popped into my head was "but....why?" Then I read the subtitle "just because." And after actually thinking of how it could be implemented and what type of offense they would use, I can see it working. Personally, I'm not a modder, but I think most attacks would have to rely on other weapon's attack animations that could plug in with dual shield attacks -although your personal clipping tolerance & suspension of disbelief would need to be meted out accordingly. Although I've been using SomethingFunnie's animation replacer for attacks for so long, I may be confusing default animations with those. In any case... Dual power attack The dual-wield animation for the spinning power attack could work for a shield power attack if the spin's timing is slowed down. Use three shield bash/power bash sound effects and you're good to go. Conversely, you could use the animation for the bare handed dual power attack, again slowed down for realism... I doubt that anyone could swing two heavy shields in quick succession. Right-handed stationary power attack The backwards-moving single blade attack could work as a standing overhead bash/power bash with the shield, and add in a 360-degree slight stagger from the wind (kind of like a "FUS" in all directions to push attackers back). There's that suspension of disbelief I mentioned... The problem with that is changing a backward moving power attack into a stationary power attack; I'm guessing that the legs animating backward while the character is standing still would be a problem. But then again, I'm not a modder. Sideways power attacks Sideways power attacks could be bashes using the bow animation's bash for both the left & right shields. Conversely, the two handed sideways animation (like a baseball swing) could be tweaked a bit to fit the scheme, but I'm not certain about that. Forward power attack Forward power attack would be a bit more... Intricate, to say the least. Juggernaut's bullrush comes to mind. It would use a modified quick "Sprinting" animation but the arms would be pushed upward to signify that the character is rushing with both shields forward, with a heavy stagger effect, and either minimal or moderate damage. I'd go minimal damage with a moderate/high chance for knockdown or moderate damage with a heavy stagger for all those hit, for balance's sake. Backward power attack Backward right handed power attacks could have the character drop back then come forward with a mirrored shield bash with minor damage and a chance for stagger, like a quick stun. I couldn't think of a reason to add left handed power attacks because IMO you'd have to have at least *one* shield specifically for blocking & bashing. Again, not a modder, but I have a vivid imagination, and maybe someone who does mod could get an idea from what I've listed. In any case, I support this mod idea. Good luck to whomever takes on this endeavor :) **EDIT** Next time I get excited, I'm going to finish reading the entire thread before posting. Good luck, rarborman! I hope you can get it all sorted out.

Critique of the game and why I don't like it (anymore).
Xeronova replied to 747823's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
To the people bashing OP's opinion on Skyrim's graphics: I don't know OP, but I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say I'm sure that he/she brought up graphics as one of their minor gripes about Skyrim. Yes, the graphics look great on my lowly 512mb GeForce 9800 GTX+, but do they look amazing? No. Is it something that will break my immersion/gameplay value? Again, no. BUT.... Coupled with the game-breaking bugs, the monotonous loot grind that ultimately happens with your character, the one-dimensional NPCs, quest loot that's weaker than what you used to complete said quest(s) and the myriad of other complaints (not just from OP, but numerous others), all these gripes add up to what the OP initially expressed in his post: This game needs a few overhauls, and instead of an HD texture pack being released with the CK, I'd definitely settle for a massive bugfix or another update that lets your leveled equipment level up *with* you, or something else more beneficial than what the modding community has already given us. With that said, I agree wholeheartedly with the OP's statements; Bethesda should have either waited to launch & implemented more into the game or fixed all/most of the bugs plaguing this otherwise remarkably beautiful game. -
Glad to see I'm not the only person that has a "dead-is-dead" mentality on their characters. I'm happy my Imperial paladin just hit level 27 with no deaths on Expert. To the OP: Role-playing is just what the name implies: You give your character a role and they play it. Do you want your character to be a savage brute or a refined gentleman? Will he join the Dark Brotherhood, or the Mage's college? Will he steal items just for the sake of stealing? For example, here's the way I RP'd my Imperial: "The nerve of those soldiers, coralling me in with those.... Stormcloaks. Don't they know who I am? I am Malkavius Falinus, court scribe & apprentice Enchanter for the city of Cheydinhaal in Cyrodiil. No matter now, as my caravan was sacked by bandits and I was left for dead anyway; none of my regal garb or Imperial papers were left to verify my identity. 'The soldiers are just doing their duty,' I kept telling myself. I repeated it so much that I lulled myself into a slumber while we made our way to Helgen. Maybe someone there may be able to listen to reason..." Not the best literature, but it puts me in the mindframe to keep the persona of my avatar active as I play thorugh with him/her.

Hello, all. As anyone whose been to skyrimnexus' homepage can see, there's usually a cornucopia of ENB mods listed, and every day a new one -or several- pops up. My computer is in dire need of an upgrade, but after the Christmas season, I can't really indulge like I would want to, so I'm stuck with using visual/performance tweaks & mods to compensate for my hardware's shortcomings. Here are my specs: Windows XP Service Pack 3 Nvidia GeForce 9800 GTX+ 512 MB GDDR3 Graphics Card AMD Phenom X4 9650 Quad Core 3 gb RAM I don't know the history of ENBs, what they actually do, where to start researching or which one I can use (or if I can even use one, to be honest), so any help at all is appreciated. Also, if I posted this in the wrong forum, I apologize in advance.

LE [REQUEST] Soul Reaver blade from the "Legacy of Kain" series
Xeronova replied to Switch296's topic in Skyrim's Mod Ideas
+1. Loved this game's franchise ever since Blood Omen. -
There are a couple of forum posts invlving the (broken) crime scales in Skyrim, there definitely needs to be a "crime & punishment" mod/overhaul of that system.
-
Agreed. Especially for the Jarl of Whiterun's son... All the kids in Skyrim need to know their place. I'm a 6-foot tall Redguard with a 5-foot tall warhammer, you honestly don't want to see puberty, do you little man? Aside from the kids, yes, +1 for the request of this mod. Brawls & tavern fights used to be comonplace to settle disputes, why not in-game as well?

I posted a few ideas here: http://www.thenexusforums.com/index.php?/topic/517390-arena-mod/ I'm no modder, but I like to brainstorm on ideas with others. Some good, some bad. I also have to agree wiht phantur about the MP element. Not to say people would deliberately cheat, but there's that option. And where there's an option, there's opportunity. Yes, an arena in Skyrim would definitely be needed. If the job's too heavy to tackle by modders, BethSoft shold step in & make it DLC.
-
Population control: More NPCs & houses in & around Skyrim. Not just in the cities, but on the roads & at shrines/villages/farms as well. I've always had this problem with Bethesda games; in Morrowind, Oblivion, the Fallout series and even in Rage. **EDIT** This is always my problem... I can never stick with just one... Second dream mod would be an immense "Arena Tournament" mod, like described here: http://www.thenexusforums.com/index.php?/topic/517390-arena-mod/

Khajiit and Redguard powers are a little under-used on my characters, especially since in Oblivion my Khajiits were all unarmed & unarmored/light armored Monk-types. But since there's no "unarmed" fighting class of perks (outside of Fists of Steel), it seems a bit too.... Meh. A new "power" should be something like "Skooma overdose: Your Khajiit blood pumps faster when under the effects of Skooma, gaining an additional 20-40 points of Stamina and increased movement & weapon speed for 60 seconds."
-
+1 What I wanted to say has already been said, So with that in mind, I'll just bump this thread.
-
Absolutely love this idea. F:NV had a similar mod where they used the backpack & satchel models already in-game, so (like previously stated) shouldn't be too hard to do, if you have the know-how. Wish I knew how to mod ._.

Let me start by saying I don't honestly care what another person wants in their single-player game, but what you're asking for is for someone to essentially un-make Skyrim for the sake of censorship. If you're in the US, you'll find more gore, sexual content and touchy subject matters on almost any basic cable television program (The Walking Dead, Jersey Shore, 3 1/2 Men; the list goes on and on). Secondly, you're 14 and 15 year-olds? Come on... When I was your age, (can't believe I just said that) Mortal Kombat was out (which is probably why we have these "common sense" laws now), and THAT game had easily ten times the gore factor of Skyrim and less filler in between the times that gore was shown. You're 15, and if you've got the aptitude to come online to request fron total strangers to make a game more "PG-13" to satiate your parents' overprotectiveness, you're old enough to know right from wrong, fiction from reality. Unless you had a problem harming small animals then I'd say you're old enough to play Skyrim, un-edited; although without certain mods that are "adults only" content, anyway. Add to that what's already been said about cutting out 100% of the more "mature" and touchy content (cannibalism, vampire/werewolf feeding, essentially doing the "devil's dirty work" with the Daedric quests, et cetera), that would take countless hours of work & multiple viewpoints of what's appropriate & what's not to certain people. Some might find cannibalism repulsive but in the same breath vampires & werewolves are okay (I blame Twilight :P ), even though both feed off of humans. Others might find the whole Daedric quests a little touchy, the fact that you're stealing in the thieve's guild; murdering people in the dark brotherhood, the fact that there's a statistic that keeps tabs on how many bunnies you've "slaughtered." Where does the censorship end, exactly? Do either of your parents play video games? If not I'd say you're probably not gonna play Skyrim until you're 21, living in your own apartment and the graphics are crappy in comparison to what's out at that time. Trust me, I know from experience. You can always try to reason with them; show them that you're mature enough to play the game without having nightmares or thinking evil thoughts, reason with them that the game's "violent content" is like any other source of entertainment that's out there... Unless saying that would have them permanently deny you ANY form of genuine entertainment... If that's the case, enjoy watching Teletubbies until you're 18. Seriously though, not flaming you for wanting to play the game; I'm on your side. I just don't think it's right to be that overprotective at your age with certain games without actually playing/reviewing the game firsthand. Would I let my 8 year-old sister play Skyrim? Probably not right now, but I would play it in front of her because I can guide my character to where things aren't so "scary" for her (doesn't like the dark caves, werewolves or zombies, lol's when a thief tries to rob me by the roadside and gets scorched). But I'll let her play Fable 3 (monitored), Guild Wars (solo/monitored group), or Neverwinter Nights 2 if she wanted to play a "fantasy" setting game, until she got older because I've played those games and know their content. Furthermore, she's known the difference between reality & fiction since she was 5, so there's no need to worry if she'll try to imitate what was done on a game IRL.

It's like the bandits are hive-minded CSI agents in fur armor. "The trajectory of how he fell and the position of the arrow strike means it must have came.... FROM OVER THERE! EVERYONE ATTACK!!" I can't remember what the mod was called, but I had one on Fallout New Vegas that made nights & interiors darker, and that hindered enemies' FOV a bit. I wonder if the same can be done in Skyrim... Now that I think about it, I had a couple of mods that changed the weather & added sand & radstorms too. Maybe the mods were conflicting & that was the end result? Oh well, worked out in my favor! I wouldn't say 10 minutes, but I get where you're going. Max time should be about 5-6 minutes real time, seeing as how one game hour is like 15-20 minutes real time (don't know actual values). After that you should slowly start losing their attention, a lot slower than vanilla's, of course. After the first intrusion, though, their resistance should be a bit tougher for ranged sneak attacks - to mimic a tense enemy that's expecting a sneak attack. Melee damage should stay the same, as the difficulty for getting that close is tougher than sniping from off a ledge. Also the enemies should search other areas outdoors. They tend to cluster up instead of spreading out to search. Fan out into groups of two, possibly leave one person by the body to keep watch in case you come back. Also you should be able to hear them yelling for help more clearly, but if you kill them before the others have a chance to come to his/her aid, they don't successfully detect where you are, instead they get more confused/agitated that they can't find you (think: Arkham City).
-
Brilliant idea. Turning a meme into a revenge quest. Flesh it out a little, maybe get a bonus if you kill the enemy with an arrow, or leave an arrow in his inventory like a calling card...

I've never laughed so hard at the internet. Thank you, kind sir. Back on-topic, I think it would be a good idea to revamp all crimes in Skyrim, and add in a few misdemeanors. Constantly shouting after the guards ask you politely to stop? Disorderly conduct - 12 hours in jail/50 gold fine. Sprinting & smashing into people as you go? Petty assault - 6 hours in jail/100 gold fine. Running around town naked as the day you were born? Public indecency - 12 hours in jail/500 gold fine. The fines & jail times could go up every time and per offense, to make things more interesting. Let's say you're on your 5th offense of "shouting in town." You'd have to spend 3 days in jail and pay 500 gold. Excellent idea!

No, you're not. I think this would be a good addition; like the spyglass in Rage, it could be something you add to your favorites or hotkey it to toggle its zooming effect. I have a 23 Redguard assassin character than only uses daggers & poison -no bow & arrow, no magic, only "whisper" shout & 1st level of whirlwind sprint- so a spyglass/monocular would be a welcomed addition. I don't know if you're trolling or not, but you sure are coming across that way. The whole point of a mod is gamer preference, especially in games in the Elder Scrolls & Fallout series. I personally have hated the diaper look that Bethesda does in their games, but do I want a nude mod? No. Which is why I use a "different underwear" mod. I don't knock those who do use the nude mods (pervs, lol), I simply overlook the mods that don't apply to me, just as you should have done in this thread. Okay, you don't like this mod's idea/functionality. Duly noted. G'bye. Shold've been the end of it. Yeah, that tactic is good for your character, not mine. I want a godd@mn spyglass.

How about these ideas: Instead of having just one city or area hosting the arena, every large city (Solitude, Whiterun, Markarth, Windhelm, Riften, maybe Dawnstar or Morthal but not both, and Falkreath) has their own individual arena where there are tournaments in each city, leading up to a grand tournament (I haven't went through main story fully yet, so IDK any place that wouldn't break continuity, probably main tournament is held in a newly-made place where there are two dragon stones on opposing ends of the battlefield, maybe enclosing the contestants). With the war going on (Stormcloaks vs Imperials) tie that animosity in with the crowds or champions of each individual Arena. If you're going up against Imperial Markarth and you've joined the Stormcloaks, opponents fight a harder, fans throw crap at you and one might jump the wall and join the fight against you, fight more opponents at once, you start out with weaker weapons in a random rounud/match, you get a partner that doesn't want to help you fight -at the end of the match, you get to choose whether to kill him or show him mercy for his betrayal. Have a tournament "away season," where all this season's gladiators rest, train up, go adventure, whatever. They have normal NPC lives, some can even be companions. You're notified by courier when the tournament is about to begin and where your next bout will be. If this one gets picked up, fights are in waves of 5 (maybe more?) different random encounters each. If you win 3 out of 5 matches, you advance, if someone else in your bracket wins the same amount, you both fight each other; winner advances, loser has to wait two "game weeks" to reenter. [*]Give consequences for losing, other than death (kind of what I was alluding to with the previous suggestion). [*]Make the PC and every opponent "Essential" temporarily. Put some lore behind it like "The difference between Skyrim's Arena and Cyrodiil's is that Skyrim doesn't fight to the death. We honor warriors who fight valiantly with mercy, although accidents do happen..." To help the enemies who cheat I saw a "Player Character is Essential" mod on Nexus a couple of days ago. I'm certain there's a way to toggle that feature on/off in the arena, if so also make it so the PC doesn't know when it's active. [*]Don't let it end with just "becoming Grand Champion." Get summoned back to the Arena to defend your title and to appease your fans. After Grand Champion victories people throw gold coins at you, you can go into the stands. When you win "Hold Champion, you'll receive a special "trophy" from the Jarl of whatever hold you're in, and a "Grand Prize" being awarded by all the Jarls when you win Grand Champ. I also like Smizzy's idea about having a "trapped" arena, that would add a new element of tactical combat to the fray. Leading enemies into poisoned arrow corridors, booby-trapped floor with spikes... For that, the arena could be an open-ceiling dungeon-type "gauntlet" where a "Two (or more) men enter, one man leaves" scenario takes place.

Totally agree with you. I've only played three characters so far and all three are werewolves. I'd rather not see their junk flopping around, but if it were done to look more like an actual animal's (Just testes, penis "hidden" in fur) I'd consider downloading it. The mod that was posted made the penises look too comically huge. For the female counterpart, there should actually be a more feminine, smaller wolf. Possibly with a lighter coat (dark brown/gray). There was a mod for Oblivion (M.O.E.) that had nice werewolves, can't remember if the female version had breasts, but if it did, there were no nipples, just furry "lady lumps." Modular Oblivion's werewolf Color & size could be perfect for a feminine canis lupinus.

LE request: a non-violent, kid-friendly skyrim
Xeronova replied to clumpy's topic in Skyrim's Mod Ideas
**Looks at Skyrim box, sees big, bold "M" in bottom corner... ** *imagines politicians talking about how "parents aren't monitoring what their kids are playing" yada yada yada* It's rated "M" for a reason. You wouldn't expect Hollywood to make an R-rated zombie movie with all the gore cut out so you could watch it with your kid on DVD, you'd let him watch Bleep Blop Rainbow Socks or whatever kids watch nowadays and wait until you have some time to yourself to watch the zombie flick alone. But then again, you're here asking for a mod that disables one of the main attractions of the game. 1. Get a Facebook account 2. Search for "Cafe World" 3. Let him play that. If he complains about the graphics don't look real enough for him then tell 'em to look outside a window or something. Also, don't get into the habit of using the excuse of "my three year-old saw me doing this and he wanted to try it." That'll be a loooong day in court after he sees you drinking a beer. -
purple textures followed by crash to desktop
Xeronova replied to asafbl's topic in Skyrim's Skyrim LE
I just encountered a similar problem where my computer did all of the following: Froze for about 10 seconds after I ended dialogue with an NPC Showed the textures of random items (clothes, I think an eye and a shield) Pink/Purple flashes of random shapes & sizes Crashed to desktop without a "This program performed a blah blah blah..." message window. But here's the catch: Now I can't load Skyrim anymore. Every time I load it up there's a frame of a Window that pops up, my computer plays the "Error" sound & I can't use my mouse unless I Alt-Tab or CTRL+Alt+Del my way out of this state. When I Alt-Tab, there's a Skyrim "Error" window that I can't view, but if I bring it forward and hit my space bar it disappears, along with Skyrim loading up. Anyone know if they're going to release a Patch 1.2 anytime soon? :wallbash: -
Only problem I have with the inventory screen are that you can't preview your avatar like in Oblivion. The menu with sorting issues I have a problem with is the "Favorites" menu. I have different spells, potions, weapons & armor in my favorites and it would be so much better if the menu had a "branching" menu, like in traditional RPGs. MAGIC Healing Fire Rune APPAREL Apprentice Hood Fur Greaves ... and so on.

I've been attacked by Faralda, haven't seen the Redguard, though. Spent almost 10 minutes killing and re-killing her because I thought she was supposed to be aggressive, but to no avail. She kept getting up. Tried leaving town & coming back, still aggressive. I don't want to use the console commands, but will if there's no fix for this. Ah well. Guess I'll go do other quests & keep track of this bug, in case there are more people that can turn aggressive.
-
I had a similar problem when I first started playing, but my PC would turn off completely. I turned down all the graphics settings a bit until it stopped crashing and haven't had the problem since.
