  1. You are onto something. It's been 4 years since I posted this question, but it never occured to me that editing the UI overlays to carry the same properties as alchemy would suffice for books. However, I've long since retired from Skyrim, I just don't have the free time to mod anymore. I will keep it in mind in case the opportunity or inspiration comes back.
  2. If I can get my alchemy updates running and play a good game of skyrim where I'll be modding the crap out of it, you'll be getting an email from me. - daf

  5. I always knew bethesda were the good guys. No doubt in my mind.
  6. Oh, I see. That answers my question. I suppose this is not possible then. It must have been a tough decision when they made the game, but I suppose previous elder scrolls games were made this way too, so the menu pause option was the default. Thanks for answering my question.
  7. Yeah, I have used this mod before and I didn't like it because it's guessing about how long you pause for. It's also a pain to calibrate, and there seems to be no way to disable eating and drinking passing time, so I don't think I'll be adding it to my list of mods to use. So it seems there currently is no modification that does what I am asking: I want to make a modification that does not pause the game when reading a book. How does one do this? What should I look for? what should I edit in the creation kit. The mod living takes time is insufficient and will not satisfy my query.
  8. Ah I have used that mod before, but that was before the MCM customization. It might work out, but it's not a replacement for the idea I had prior. My interest still stands, but this would help in the meantime. I want to know there's a lapse of time that is real to reading. While this sort of helps, I know in the past, I've felt like I was passing too much time with this mod.
  9. Hello, I will give you my two cents. First of all: Don't disrespect bethesda. In other words, don't disrespect your GOD. Just because GOD makes the platypus, ugly people, beaurocracies, Ebola and Cancer, doesn't mean they are bad at it. Second of all, you have said nothing your paragraph that actually tells me why bethesda is bad at making quests. You mentioned what you thought was a great quest, blood on the ice, and compared it to the largest number of available quests in the game. In other words, you are comparing bethesda against itself, which doesn't make any sense. You said absolutely, nothing to the effect of "what does bethesda need to do to improve quests, you simply said stuff like bethesda's quest design is poor, many of the quests they have are bad, even though you would like to believe the opposite, and that your ideas for making quests are better, because you would have fully voiced quests that have unique functions and crucial points of decision dialogue that can make or break the outcomes of events. You sound like a hippocrite. I am telling you this because I've been reading recent forum discussions here after posting my own topic. I figured I should read what other people have to say and give my advice, reccomendation, and input. So I hope you don't get put off by this. But it's upsetting to read something like "bethesda made bad game" and "bethesda sucks, they did all this wrong." Tendo did it too, and it doesn't matter who you are, that is the wrong way to go about modding this game. If you're going to make a modification called "immersive quests" for the sake of telling bethesda "this is how it's done." Then you are doing this for the wrong reason. Excuse me if I sound like a purist in this game or anything, but I have a large number of modifications too. But I don't mod my game because I think "augh, bethesda why you do this to me, ugh, stupid combat system, ugh boring quests" I mod my game because I think "Wow, am I really capable of doing this and that? Can we do that? Let's do that." And the only thing I have to say about Skyrim that I don't like, is that I don't like Delphine and the Blades. I just don't, I think they're stupid and there's plotholes in the blades questline. That's my biggest peeve with Skyrim Main quest. And I think they make you dislike Delphine on purpose. I don't know why. But back to the topic...if you really want to make a mod called Immersive Quests, I think it would be a great idea. But your modification's merit is only worth as much respect as the respect you give to the people who give you the ability to mod this game at all.
  10. I've played this game and the main quest quite a few times and made some mods myself. But... Countless dragons enslaved by Alduin? Attacking every other day in major towns, cities, and wilderness? Only one man/skimpily dressed woman can end their wrath by taking their very soul? Man, that sounds like a job for bethesda man, they should totally make a game that does that. Scratch that, they should make an ENTIRE GAME about it. They should call it "The Elder Scrolls: ATTACK OF THE DRAGONS." Man that'd be awesome, I'd love a game like that. (end sarcasm.) I think you're missing a crucial, and I mean there is an extremely crucial part of lore you are forgetting about when you describe this modification. Dragons live by a code of honor and dominance. They do not get revenge. They seek the strongest. The dragons that still attack in skyrim do so because they have the will to dominate, and when the dragonborn enters into battle with them, it is a battle of voices, of power. Snow Hunter even said so himself, that he would test his thu'um against yours and wanted to see your Thu'um against Alduin. There is even a Land of Dragons, an entirely separate continent, where the dragons first came. Akatosh himself gave Alduin, his first born, such power. There is no enslaved army. Alduin never had a cult because he CONSUMED THE SOULS OF THE WARRIORS IN SOVENGARDE. He thought of mortals as WEAK, even ARMIES of mortal men could not stop Alduin, the WORLD EATER. Look, I'm not saying this idea is wack. I'm saying it doesn't really fit the lore. You should dig something up from previous elder scrolls lore and find somebody who can play these roles and these scripts. But I'll tell you right now, repeating a main quest story line isn't going to win big with resources. Why not do a custom story or story unrelated to Alduin. The main quest ended pretty solid, even with a chance for Alduin to Return, since you couldn't absorb his soul. But I mean... it's hard to imagine finding a giant cult army is going to be out to get you when there is absolutely no sign of them to begin with.
  11. ...and she should like, also have a pilot license, do back flips and bake cookies. And when you hired her long enough, she'd want to stay with you for free, and she's custom voiced and has like, mind reading powers so she can tell what you're thinking. She also has to be able to breath in water, even though she's not argonian. Likes long walks on the beach, getting caught in the rain, and pina coladas. Might possible be ok with having children, has some unique dance moves and will go drinking with you. Also must like video games, between ages of 22 and 26, long dark hair, atheletic body and somewhat intelligent (some college or more.) Prefer aires and would like to go camping and fishing. Maybe even fish with you. She should also be capable of doing my taxes, singing the age of oppression and should also be able to speak dragon. She also has a mole on her left cheek and puts her hair in a ponytail, with hair physics. She might be a glasses person, but that's up to you. Something like that right? I'm not sure man, sounds like a lot of work.
  12. Hello nexus, I have been trying to figure out how to make a modification that doesn't pause the game when you loot containers, pick locks, etc. Basically, there is no pausing in the game unless you hit "start" or "ESC." But More importantly, it would be nice to have something that can just keep the game going while you read a book. I would like to feel time pass as I read a book in game because I feel like that is a part of the game time. But when you stop to read a book in the game as it is now. no time passes between beginning to end. So it breaks the immersion. I also feel like this is simple enough to do without breaking the game, but I just can't figure it out. I modded "Existential Alchemy" and "The dominating mace of molag bal." I would also like to make this mod, but I'm facing a wall. I've already tried analyzing boolean for "book" in the creation kit and Can't find anything. So i'm assuming this mechanism of pausing the game while you loot containers or read books is all the same and just activates when you use those objects. Maybe there's already a mod like this out there, I don't know. But I do know one thing: that this mod would be incredibly awesome for immersion if done correctly without having to change the entire game.
