Along with the virus and usual malware scans, add JRT (Junkware Removal Tool) to your toolkit. It is distributed by MalwareBytes (one of the top anti malware companies) and is absolutely free. It runs fairly quickly (around 8 minutes on my large system) It kills off some of the garbageware advertising trash that some of the others miss.
