DDoS season begins, sites a little bit unstable

Man, sucks how people want to DDoS the Nexus of all places. I remember a long while ago when the OpenMW project got DDoS'd for at least a month. Like seriously, they've got a small amount of people working very hard, give them a break.

Anyway, here's to hoping this attack gets sorted out without much more trouble.

Nexus has quite small amount of advertisement compared to other such sites, and that alone could be a reason to try and take it down. Then again, there is no real profit in attacking another site, because it rarely diverts users to a similar site with much less content/quality - which they may or may not know.

As for the other question (kids w/ free time & people seeking revenge), apart from petty satisfaction, they achieve nothing. Even less, considered that the site will get back up and continue to exist.

Being a Security Engineer, however, I have seen the worst of mankind. People do such things without intent to gain anything, out of pure evilness..

Also, if security is concerned, I strongly suggest not going free. ESET Smart Security has proven quite good for me. And it is not that expensive. Especially for students/teachers. Edited by s2firestar

Yeah I was wondering what was going on and figured it was something like this. I never could understand why someone would do that but in this case it could be as many have said, because of bans, moderators, competition...

I am just glad that this site exists cause it kicks ass.

This is pretty much part of a solution, Are you looking into it ? And for gods sake get rid of the JPG signatures. You do not have the capacity to support 60+ files loading per page extra. Slow enuf as it is.

""""Purr4me 40 kudos 1250 posts

You can start solving the internal DDos by having the in-house crew go through the data base and remove all references to this website.

(((((((( nodiatis Dot Com Slash tou )))))))

EDIT, Broke up the link with underscores, Nasty place. Stubborn link too.

Users have and are placing *.jpg's in their signatures and are spreading the load at once spam. The nexus Skyrim main page is over loaded with it. All the skyrim users are migrating to the other sites. Data was scanned using peerblock 1.1 and recent as 2 minutes ago.

On the Files side , not the forum side, they are Embedded into Pictures, Jpg's, and ad-maps posted right in front of any one that lands on the pages, once...as you just described, a user that has no protection, becomes a Victim and now part of that bot net .So, rather than delete your Entire user base...I can suggest a quiet search and remove the items.

That's what you just said, so I am taking action and informing you of what I found. They are following these posts too. I would post a screen shot but that would be intolerant here and invasion of privacy. Examples of what I found are available.

Kitty.

In response to post #8464444.

Unfortunately (D)Dosing is not a punishable offense in every country, so if the attacker (or the identified master computer) lives in one of those countries, you can't really do anything legally. Unless you are planning to send an assassin or the CIA or something .

well, are there any countries where assassination is legal?

I think the reason people DDOS is because people don't like your antipiracy rules. I read a lot about the hatred people get about that you ban because they got a pirated game and that's probably the reason you got a DDOS attack also i think i slipped by someone talking about taking the site down on thepiratebay but people are like that all the time you know... Personally I'm sad i need to redownload all my mods after reinstalling my pc yesterday and it's crazy slow. I'll wait a little until the servers recover.

People that do this sort of thing irritate the living heck out of me to the point that I start to think we should go back to the old wrath of God rules and punishments to discourage complete neckbeards from this sort of thing. Caught sealing, loose your hands sort of thing.
