  1. Hello Demhilord....

Just a quick note first... your post would have been more suited to the 'Spoilers' section...as you are asking questions that require 'spoilers' to be given.

The Stormcloaks....No, don't attack the Imperial Camps....*WARNING SPOILER AHEAD*.....the Captains in all Camps are set essential and your attacks are considered crimes....Murder.....You will be given 'duties'....quests to complete....I don't join the Stormcloaks myself and so could be wrong in regards to who you speak to, to gain your quests, but I am thinking it would be Galmer Stonefist...the guy always by Ulfrics side.

Who's right and who's wrong, who's side you should join, who they are, etc...it's all relative....We each see the situation differently, where you see Rebels with a just cause, I see good men led by a zealot with no regards for anyone but himself, but that's just me.....I certainly see plenty of Mud on the Imperials also, just much less damaging than the Stormcloaks.

There are no quests designed to help you make a choice....just some dialogs....I spent my first game speaking with EVERY NPC I could find in Skyrim, looking for dialog related to the Civil War quest...I found some, not much, but found all to be very one eyed...each from their own narrow perspective, no deeper thought or questioning from anyone really....though I hear there's a High Elf Imperial Captain in a Camp in the 'Rift' has some pretty interesting views. Have you spoken with anyone in the Solitude Court also to hear a staunchly Imperial perspective?....But maybe a journey around the Camps from both sides speaking to the Captains before making any final decisions may give you the wider perspective your looking for.

Question 2....I am sorry, I can't really help you there....my gaming experience is very small....Have you tried 'Dragon Age Origins' bought out by Bioware? I don't like the combat system it utilizes myself, but for story it's very good.

Question 3....Sorry, I have absolutely no idea....and have never used the 'player.place...' commands.

Question 4....Your Rabbits and Pheasants shouldn't be doing that....do you use Mods?

I hope I was of some help....

  2. Haha, glad to hear it. I had a particularly interesting bit of gameplay the other day when I estimated the time based on the position of the sun in the sky...and got it right. In a game. That made me quite happy.

What I'd like to see is an Immersive Constellations mod, that makes specific constellations of bright stars in the sky that you can use to navigate by. After all, using the stars to navigate is a very old system. Obvious constellations would be the skill tree ones, but I'm sure there are others. Maybe I should go request it in the mod requests section :P or ask the author of Enhanced Nights. I'm not sure how much work it would take to put specific patterns of stars in the sky.

Now that I would LOVE to see...:)....would be awesome!...:)

I Fast Travel for three incidences in my game, otherwise no Fast Travel what so ever.....The three incidences...:

1/ High Hrothgar....I have to admit, I start getting pretty bored climbing up and down those steps....so will walk/jog to Ivarstead and then Fast Travel from there to the Grey Beards.

2/ When that guy wanting to go to Eldergleam Sanctuary is with me....keeps him alive for the trip....I have a brutal game with some very nasty random spawning opponents (Mod)....he wouldn't live through it.

3/ When I have to have Serana with me...she drives me up the wall...so my Dovahkin either out runs her and leaves her as far behind as he can, or Fast Travels.

I don't like Fast Travel, miss out on too much fun and is immersion breaking.

  3. I was a little bit disgusted with how it is, but that's just how it is. I think the main problem is that the writers have chosen to only briefly touch on the subject as if it is nothing, and leave us there to ponder about it (which usually leads to us thinking the conditions were of the utmost severity).

If there was a little bit more information, I'm sure we could all come to grips with just exactly what is going on. It's the not knowing bit that probably makes it all seem excruciating.

Also, I'm not really sure, but if Harkon can make you a vampire lord simply by biting you on the neck, why couldn't he just do that to Serana? Or wouldn't that be considered "pure blood" or whatever they called it?

From what I understood from Serana's dialog, as a 'Daughter of Cold Harbor' the only way she could become one was though the direct sexual contact with Molag Bal and I really couldn't imagine him being very pleasant about the whole ordeal....thus a rather brutal rape.

  4. The whole human race exists because of rape (I doubt the cavemen 50 thousand years ago were asking cavewomen nicely out for dinner first rather than grabbing them by the hair and dragging them along), and you're worried more about some fictional vampires in a video game? Dude...

... ....You do know 'Rape' isn't that common among Animal Species don't you?....Granted some species do, but the majority do not....many higher primates do have incidences of rape, but that is outside the norm, the most common outstanding courtship behavior among the greater majority of Animal Species is the male proving himself worthy of mating rights....females denying him until he proves himself worthy.....Thus common sense dictates Cave Men were not a mob of rampant Rapists....There are many more ways than just taking someone to Dinner in the hopes of gaining mating rights.... :P

Yes, annoyance at a Games story is 'First World Problems', but then again most of our annoyed or difficult moments, etc... in life in the Western World are First World Problems.....why single this one out?

    Edit...spelling

  5. Well, I would be almost 100% certain that it would be a 'Realism' Immersion Mod responsible for adding such a feature....As for 'stupidity' do you bother to read in full ALL the details on a Mod you decide to install?...The 'stupidity' is on the behalf of the user for not looking into what their downloading, not the Modder.
  6. 1/ Race aware dialog and influence on the Game....Why in heavens name does Revy Sadri trust my Nord with his secret about the stolen ring and ask for help with it?....Revyn should be coolly cordial at best...not out right, "I lay my fate in your hands".

I don't think Race recognition in game would be too difficult to implement....Small repercussions making some quests a little harder or simply not available (replay value for new experiences) depending on the Race your playing and who is giving them the quest, etc....More or less trust or suspicion from the NPC's in your vicinity depending on your Race....Comments made by NPC's, etc....

2/ No Forced Quests.....You tell Molag Bal to go jump....Read Eltrys Note (add an option to bin the Note)....Tell Brynjolf your not interested or no comment....Telling Arngeir you are not killing Paarthurnax (add option to inform Delphine/Esburn)....and too many more to mention....Rejecting the Quest should mark it as failed and close it down in the Journal and game play experience.

3/ No Forced joining of Faction or Guild to complete the Main Quest.....Yes, I know there is a way to circumvent joining the Mages College to get the Elder Scroll, but honestly how many people have found it and how long did it take them to find it?....Same goes for Delphine sending you to Brynjolf.

4/ Smarter NPC AI....Why do Civilians run to fight a Dragon or Vamp Master?...Why does a Bandit look at his suddenly dead comrade beside him with an arrow sticking out of his gut and decide it was nothing after a brief moments panic?....The NPC AI stupidity is legendary in Skyrim....Have Civilians run away, have NPC's under attack stay on alert and active for the duration of your presence in that Cell.

5/ Better Difficulty Mechanics.....More damage received, less damage given is adds nothing but annoyance at the unbelievability to the game....Opt instead to increase the intelligence of the NPC AI with increased level difficulty....even higher numbers of Combat opposition NPC's....ie. More Bandits in the Bandit Camp....rather than the protagonist is weaker, the NPC's are stronger.

  7.

What is funny about this discussion is that everyone above level 5 is a mass murderer and that's okay.

Sure, the bandits attacked the defenseless traveler bearing down on their campfire waving an axe looking to grind his one-handed skills. Sure, those Imperial posers tried to rob you. And yes, you joined a band of freedom fighters with racial and religious reasons and AK-47s to liberate Syria Skyrim by exiling or killing everyone who isn't a Nord, or perhaps you joined the Empire that conquered united Skyrim in the first place to prevent the Thalmor from growing even stronger after the BJ they got from the Empire you're trying to save; one way or the other Skyrim is going to be pointy ears thanks to your interference. I assume you also burned a few people alive with fire spells, killed a bunch of forsworn for fighting back against the Nords and/or used the peaceful teachings of the Way of the Voice to bring peace knock rabbits off mountains.

Everyone is a bastard in some way, but those aren't people.

What? We're just going to have to agree to disagree there. I can't accept that killing characters, that would not hesitate to kill me, makes me a bastard. I also feel to see the relevance of this response.

Are you trying to say we're all like the rapist or what? I'm just honestly confused here so I needs some clarification.

Also, I am with you Monkinsane. They chose daedra worship, but I also agree with you Frosty that things aren't so simple and if my post made it seem like it was, I apologize.

I am just saying that in life, we always have a choice. We may not like our options, but we always have them.

You find yourself in an unwinnable situation and the person says to you, "Drink this poison that will certainly kill you or worship and satisfy this demon," and despite the fact that many people would choose different options from one another including the classic, "I don't care if it is unwinnable, this demon I'm going out fighting so I would charge one of them and die that way!" people will often say they had no choice.

I'm not saying she was wrong for her choice. I'm not saying that I didn't understand her choice. I am just saying that the particular character I played at that time due to his choices, would have attempted to end her life due to her choices. No malice or anything. It's just the way things worked out.

Mind you, I feel like we may have gotten away from the original point of this thread. I am pretty sure that this was only about being frustrated that there was nothing we could do to right the wrongs of Molag if we so desired to try... and also about being upset that there was no way to oppose any of the daedric princes.

It's do the quest, or stare at it constantly in your journal (unless you have a mod)

So much of it depends on perspective....You know a murderous Bandit is hiding away in a Keep your ambling past....you know if you looked a soft target that Bandit will kill you for any possessions you have....you ignore the threat he poses because he doesn't attack you? I would call hunting Bandits a public service and civivc duty myself....ensuring they are unable to continue to harm those who can't protect themselves.

As for the Civil War...your examples are some what more complicated than you choose to present them.

Forsworn...simple self defense, they attack you along the road....Never hurt a Rabbit or set someone alight myself, can't speak for that.... :P

Back to the Thread intention....Fighting back: It is easy to say I would rather die standing and fighting back than live on my knees and worship...a pretty scarey choice if it were real, but how each of us would respond if this were real is irrelevant ...Our Dovah's should at least have the option to a least say FU....rather than a polite little note in our Journals, indicating more of a 'Yes, my mighty Lord' ...than a 'I would rather die than serve you'....I completely understand and accept that a Daedric Lord is well beyond our Dovah's ability to destroy, but "encouraging" our Dovah's to play favorite pet with these Daedric beings peeves me.

Some people retaliate to this argument with you don't have to do everything in your Journal....I feel aside from my annoyance at the lack of choices....whether you choose to continue the quest or not, you are not always left a great deal of choice...I remember in one game my Dovah telling Molag Bal in fact to go jump and later went on to do the 'Rescue the Kid' Dibellan Quest....he battles his way through to the child's location...the cage she is in and guess who's in the cage with her, standing in front of her in fact, so I can't ignore him to speak to the child, I have to get him to move out of the way first....the Priest Molag Bal wanted me to find.... ....No, I didn't feel forced at all....

There does need to be more in game choice if Bethesda wants to continue with forced Quests.....Serana's immediate BFF status is another example....

  8. @ Monkinsane....I wish the 'smileys' had a little Peace symbol.... ....I agree with you 100% about Molag Bal and people choosing to deal with him and in truth my sympathy does not extend to Serana's mother, as she made the choice of her own free will....there's no mention of Harkon forcing her. I do feel sympathy towards Serana for what happened at the time, though in all honesty she does seem to enjoy the results....Vampirism....But that's where my sympathy ends for her myself.

    Edit....spelling....

  9. @ Monkinsane....That's stepping on deadly ground...If it's forced it's Rape, simple as that, no if's, but's, what for's.....A lot of people make REALLY stupid decisions in their lives only to find out too late it was a really bad decision, they may be complete idiots for walking into something so obviously insane, but it doesn't mean they deserve some terrible punishment for the simple crime of being a complete idiot....As for Serana not running away, nothing is ever that simple....think about it, if you are a part of a family that's so twisted their willing to give themselves over to something as sick and perverted as Molag Bal, do you really think these sorts of people are just going to let you waltz out the door?...And in a world like Skyrim, honestly, where would you go?....Their not that big on social welfare or extending a stranger a hand there.

And with all that said, funnily enough I don't feel sorry for Serana.... :P ....I have no time for her in fact, she irritates the heck out of me...I think maybe because despite what she's been through she remains an idiot...didn't seem to learn anything from it.....funny that huh....our personal perceptions and where we take them.

  10. I actually think that it is because our real lives are filled with so much unpunished depravity that it makes the original poster annoyed that it is in the game too.

I mean, I know it’s realistic but damn, do we have to be depressed in a game too? Lol I mean we definitely play games, and watch shows, and movies partially due to wanting immersion but I would also say that sometimes we watch some of those things and play games with happier endings as a means to have a brief escape from the negativity in the world. Like maybe there is a part of us that enjoys playing games because we want control over everything as a brief break from the powerlessness we often feel especially in the face of certain adversities.

So while that particular instance didn’t upset me (I mean after all, regardless as to why, they did choose that path), as I don’t like vampires anyway and would have probably attempted to kill her if the game let me, I can understand your annoyance (or at least I think I do) and have felt it at other times.

I hate that I can’t oppose the daedric princes, I hate that I can’t systematically do quests that will eliminate the Thieves Guild and or at the very least take power away from Maven. I hate that if I side with the Empire or the Stormcloaks that I can’t remove the corrupt officials/jarls that are also on the side I have chosen (or at least extort them). I hate when I am maxed out with intimidate (100 Speech and appropriate perks selected) and I STILL can’t intimidate someone. WTF have the option there if it is impossible to succeed with it?

I concede....you have a point TONS....gaming is an escape from the real world and it's constants, I can see now why it could upset some players. I guess I just get so caught up in looking through my own eyes, I sometimes forget other people would see the same situation quite differently.

I hear you about the lack of ability to oppose or eliminate....it bugs the heck out of me too. The Speech thing.... :pinch: ....had one instance where my Dovah had maxed Speech and the Intimidate perk filled in, was under the blessing of Dibella at the time and was wearing a Dibellan Amulet but could not intimidate a common Thief stopping him on the road.... ....I mean what the hell!?.... ...Why is the option even there if it can't be used?....

  11.

Bethesda's difficulty system is very poorly done to begin with, a very unbalanced system....Legendary just compounds it more so....I have no interest in it myself and won' t be utilizing it as I much prefer a more balanced approach to add difficulty to my game....Smarter and more pro-active AI being the primary target.

What do you do to achieve this balance?

A small list of Mods I consider essential....though they are primarily aimed at a lone Stealthy Poisoner Archer which I play.....And so I aim for Mods that give the AI NPC's the brains enough to duck for cover and stay in cover, makes it much more of a realistic challenge to get a bead on them..... they actively search for a stealthed Dovahkin attempting to flank his position if the space allows....and work as a much better team if they manage to flush him out or simply catch him in open space out of stealth....their Archers will keep their distance and their close quarter fighters will attempt to flank and encircle him.

Also have a Mod that charges unstealthed Arrow hits up to realistic damage....both ways....Taking a hit REALLY hurts, I can't afford to take more than two hits....but neither can the NPC's....maybe three, and in rare cases four depending on their Armor.....A Mod that has my Dovah and his opponents take more damage with close quarter weaponry also, as my Dovah is Light Armored close quarter combat is a very serious risk to him....And a Mod that supplies much more realistic poisons damage, makes my Frost Bite Spiders hell on wheels though.... :P ...rule is don't tangle with them....

And a Mod that supplies fast, dangerous, aggressive opponents....I am still looking for the right Dragon one though, found a good one, but would need to tweak it in the CK due to one limitation it adds that doesn't make sense.

I play on Expert because I find Master ridiculous....all Master does is have you put out a lot less damage and the NPC's put out a lot more...I find the Expert balance more realistic....more equal damage both ways. I have just endeavored to give that equal damage a much more realistic outcome and worked on the AI to give the opponents both a smarter and more aggressive but not so fool hardy behavior, just through careful choice of Mods I use.

  12. Oh...THAT Legendary...oops...my bad.... :ohdear: ....I won't be buying myself if it comes with all the DLC's.....I have absolutely less than zero interest in Hearthfire and...well...I own three copies of the game already.... ...One for the XBox, on which I started....and two for PC.

  13. Going back to the OP (I don't really want to read through all this debate although from what I've read both sides have valid arguments) I will agree with you on the fact that it is horrible that even among a community of gamers, the nerdiest of the nerds, we can still find examples of bullying. HOWEVER, you can't have a biased opinion on this subject, as a gamer that has seen one to many games modding communities go down the anime abyss of pervyness. Most modders will agree with me that it is happening with Skyrim as well, skimpy armors, weapon packs from anime series, etc. The Skyrim Nexus, imo, is a place to build on the Skyrim lore, not degrade it.

Now keep in mind that I am not a Lore maniac. I do believe modding should stay in the bounds of the lore but I will never bash, insult, or deprecate another s work. I do believe, however, that there are other means of uploading their content to share with others, (Just Google the Asian modding community you'll see what I mean) its just not here on the Nexus.

Again, this is a very thin line were walking on in this thread. People's opinions especially on the internet, are much more then opinions they're an extension of themselves. Just keep that in mind when you think about lore keepers and lore breakers.

I read the Rules for Nexus when I first joined this Forum and I can not recall for the life of me anywhere stating Skyrim Nexus is for TES Lore Mods only.....must I read it again, has something changed? And so as my interest lay in 'realism' and 'challenge'....not TES Lore....such as including a "pervy" 'Sex' Mod for 'realism'....I should only be able to acquire such Mods on possibly unregulated sites written in a language I can't even understand?....Exposing my PC to the possibility of downloading a virus or maybe even something as perverted as say 'child sex in Skyrim' because I can't read another language that pertains to the content of the Mod?....All because I prefer realism in my game?

As for Skimpy Armors...do some historic research on Nordic and other old European Cultures.....google 'Berserkers' ...you may be in for quite a surprise....Granted the vast majority of Skimpy Armors are done for Skyrim just for show...not that I particularly care....whatever floats someone boat is fine by me....if they like it they use it....But do keep in mind as you fob these Mods off as unrealistic, your own Dovahkin running around in full metal Armor is just as unrealistic, if not in some ways even more so.

First off I never stated Nexus was strictly a lore based site, if you were to have read my comment thoroughly you would seen I said that was strictly in my opinion. Secondly I never said realism had anything to do with my argument, I was arguing for the Elder scrolls lore, whether that be realistic to actual history and culture to actual Nordic societies in the time period is not what I am supporting, again its for the lore of the elder scrolls games and half dressed anime based mods is not part of that lore. Third, Whether or not you download mods from other sites is completely up to you, I never said anybody had to go to such sites, and hey, there's this thing called the steam community, I'm pretty sure your not going to get a virus there. So in conclusion, read someones comment completely and thoroughly before you start belligerently accusing them of things they never said.

...And what I was referring to was 'your opinion', pointing out the problems your suggestion if it were so would cause for people who prefer a broader range of Mods be available on a safe site.....As for the Steam site, no mature content allowed.

  16. It all just depends on what YOU want for YOUR Game....Some people want Realism, some people want Lore, some people want Hilarity, some people want Beauty,.....it doesn't matter. The beauty of it is it's a single player game and we can each have our games as we want them.

The highest majority of the people in the Modding Forum really are awesome people, they do this for free and in their own time. They do not have to share what they make, they choose to share what they make and they make what appeals to them...If you share their view in what appeals then you use their Mod....Thank them and ENDORSE them too by the way.....show them you appreciate what they have created, it's just the simple click of a button.....If you don't like a Mod for any reason, you don't share their view, then just move on, there's no need to comment, it doesn't effect your world in any way, shape or form....so why comment?

Me, I like Realism, Challenge and Beauty, the Mods I choose to use reflect this....Others want Lore and their Mod use reflects that...And others want toonish, cute, funny, silly, whatever and their Mod use reflects that....How is one persons preference effecting another's?...It does not.
