  1. Don't forget to tab into the menu before alt+tabbing out or you'll end up with the dreaded double cursor bug. And then alt+tab twice to get back into game. ENB Customizer is awesome. You might also want to check out Guide to ENB series mods. I have a GTX 560 2GB and I've never yet found an enb where I can use SSAO, it just drags down my fps. Currently using Vibrant ENB with SSAO and DoF disabled. Averaging 40 fps outside and 60 fps inside.
  2. Launch showracemenu and adjust the weight slider to 0 or 100. Do either of those settings fix it?
  3. Do you know which IP address it was trying to reach? Some applications will use the IP stack to loop back to itself. In these cases, the traffic doesn't actually leave the network card. I'm not a programmer so I don't know all the details. But I do know it's a common technique. Not saying that this is the case, just one possibility. Edit: I had a look and it is using the local loopback address 127.0.0.1 to connect back to itself. Foreign addrees 0.0.0.0:0 Looks ok to me.
  4. So when you try to install it, windows reports it as corrupted? I've never had that problem with version 372 or 373. I think your best bet is to just download it again. Choose download manually.
  5. Close enough. I find weight painting to be excruciatingly painingt. :wallbash: Have you tried selecting the vertices and zeroing them out via Abs. Effect? Nightasy covers that in video 12.
  6. I found this tutorial extremely helpful. He deals with armor but whether you decide on weapons or armor, the walk-through for setting up will get you started in no time.
  7. I like this plugin, it actually solved some skinning issues I was having with clippage while sneaking etc. I'm in the process of converting vanilla armor to UNP so I tried it on my body1f_0.nif (bandit fur armor) to see what would happen. Everything worked great but somehow the skirt bones got lost in the process. The skirt bones were useful to me as a kind of mediator between the two thigh bones. The end result is now the skirt moves awkwardly while walking and running. I tried adding skirt bones but they're not on the list. Was the removal of skirt bones by design or did I do something wrong? Am I too dependant on skirt bones? I'm thinking of reskinning with the vanilla version to see if I can get them back, and hoping the old clippage issues don't return. Unless there's a better way. Any thoughts? ----------edit------------- I added an edit poly modifier and reskinned via skin wrap with the vanilla armor. I chose skin wrap rather than copying and replacing the skin entirely. I just wanted to add the skirt bones and hoped for an acceptable compromise. Somehow this caused my armor to dislocate forward and down off the body. Reloaded and tried again, same thing. I then hyperventilated and glared at the screen for about ten minutes. That didn't seem to help either. So I moved the armor back in place as best I could and finished off with a bsdismember and exported. The good news is that the skirt bones are back. The bad news is that now the skirt clips at the pelvis during combat animations. But I think I can fix that. Maybe. :wallbash:
  8. I haven't noticed textures being darker. But I have noticed it loses n mapping. I think importing and exporting with niftools causes that. Thank you so much. "No weight painting at all is needed this way." *Cue chorus of angels* I can't begin to describe how weight painting has become the bane of my existence. I will try your method out this weekend. Thanks again and kudos.
  9. I've tried three different configs and have never really been happy with SSAO. Besides the huge fps hit, it darkens the environment and makes my characters look old and haggard. I can probably fix that by tweaking the settings. Until I find the time and inclination to do that, it's SSAO: off. @Staind716, Nice find.
  10. Let me see if I understand correctly. I can right-click the mesh, select Clone -> select Copy from clone options and then move it aside? Then, when I'm done with the original, I can copy the skin from the clone and paste it over top the original skin? The method I've been using is to delete skin, import the vanilla mesh overtop and then do a skin wrap by selecting the body and then the vanilla mesh. This seems to work ok but I still have a lot of serious weight painting afterwards. Are there any advantages or disadvantages between the two methods?
  11. I looked at that. even tried it but on exporting on some meshes 3ds max crashes but not on others anyone else get that. One mes is the wench clothing. she has a pendant around her neck/ if i remove that and try to export. 3ds crashes. Any time I remove mesh from armor or clothing, I finish off by deleting the original skin and bsdismember. And apply a new skin (via skin wrap) and a new bsdismember. Granted, I'm also a newby so maybe someone can correct or clarify. At the very least, I think a new bsdismember will be required. Also make sure to unfreeze the body and unhide the skeleton before export.
  12. I recently started a new hobby converting vanilla armor to UNP skinny body. I started off with the bandit fur armor body1f_0. Moving the mesh around was the easy part. I spent weeks toiling over weighting the skirt. I don't know how many times I had to start over, it made me crazy. But I finally got it. The skirt hangs and moves perfectly smooth, no clipping at all. It is a thing of beauty. Then I sat my character down in game. I use a sit animation that has the character cross her legs so the whole thigh clips through the skirt. Ideally, the skirt should rest overtop. Now, I can convert and import that sit animation into Max and spend a few hours (or days) painting the weights to make it look natural. Or should I? I'm worried that I'll screw everything up. My question is: Will painting weights for one animation screw up the work I did for previous animations?
  13. I have the same problem with killcam shots. TFC 1 will not work while they're in progress. I have to be quick on the draw and be lucky enough to hit tilde at the right moment. Then tm, tilde again, and then just keep hitting printscreen and hope I have something worth saving.
  14. I know what you mean about the bears (Da Bears). Between Ivarstead and Riften it seems you can't swing a dead Skeever without hitting one. Sometimes I get three at once. I agree with Moraevik. Try and mix it up with the bad guys at every level to increase combat, block and armor skills. And limit crafting to 2 or 3 per level. That way, bears are more of a minor nuisance than a danger. I did not know that!
  15. I'm easily amused so getting bored with skyrim isn't much of a problem for me. As far as mods go, maybe consider Alternate Start - Live Another Life. It gives you a choice of starting scenarios that you can use to create an alternate background or storyline for your character. There's also Moonpath to Elsweyr that adds a whole new world space to explore. Then there's screenshooting, playing with enb configs, armor and animation modding...
  16. Mounted combat was introduced in version 1.6 before Dawnguard. Only 5 hours after a few months? See if creating a new character enables it. That's my first guess. My second guess is to uncheck any mods that may conflict. And if all else fails, validate files.
  17. I almost always use light armor. Hide being my default vanilla preference for stealth and weight. Also a big fan of mashup type armors that you can mix and match.
  18. Ah yes, J'Zargo. "Here, test these fire scrolls out." he says. I found that utterly hilarious, a good laugh was had. I kid about Lydia, really. She's awesome but I keep her at home now. Followers are very useful especially at the start of the game. They distract enemies and they alert me to danger. I agree that more immersive and topical dialog would be nice but wondering about the scripting that would have to go into that. Not to mention the voice acting. It sounds like a big job but I'm sure it can be done. Another feature I'd like to see more of is facial expressions. The best follower mod I found, so far, is Willow. Besides the fact that she's unkillable and levels with the player. She also displays a range of emotions that surprises me. Happy, angry, sometimes she looks like she's going to cry. I've never seen this in other followers. Unfortunately, the author pulled the mod. Which is a shame because he/she did an excellent job. Another feature I'd like to see are additional commands like set up camp, cook dinner, take a break, scratch my back...
  19. I'm using 3DS Max 2012. If you register at their site as a student, you can get it for free. Do a search on skyrimnexus for nightasy, he has a great tutorial with all the info you need for that. I haven't worked with blender much but if I recall correctly, you need version 2.49 for the plugin to work correctly. And you need to prepare nifs in nifskope before importing into blender and again after exporting. I don't know if you've seen this tutorial, looks like a good start.
  20. All I expect from followers: 1. Don't die. I started the game with Lydia who very quickly turned me off the whole idea of followers. I was expecting her to back me up but somehow I ended up being her body guard. Which was made all the more difficult since she insists on getting in the way of my shots. After finishing an epic battle, she almost always gets killed. Reload. 2. Don't kill me. I always end up with arrows, ice spikes etc in the back of my head. And how many times have I been crouched at the top of a chasm when Lydia comes charging up from behind and knocks me off the edge? I'm beginning to think Lydia wants me dead. Reload. 3. Carry my stuff. And no attitude. That's the least I can expect. "What's that Hopalong? Hold onto this loot and wait over there, way over there." But be careful what you give her. I made the mistake of handing over a staff of chain lightening. Never again. Good guys, bad guys. Chickens. No one was spared. Reload.
  21. Said by Jawanan in Solitude: "Fletching suits me. It's difficult, and sometimes tedious. But a well made arrow strikes forth like the fury of a god." Amen.
  22. Creating Custom Armors Step by Step by Nightasy - WIP http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/19249 Should keep you busy for a while.
  23. For me it's chocolate. And that little nugget of information only matters if you're buying.
  24. UNP has a B2 Test Run update that alters the breast shape. I haven't closely compared it with the original, but everything looks right to me. After years of extensive (cough) online research (cough), I'm satisfied that it is a fair representation of real world female anatomy. But beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
