  1. i think your missing the point gasti89 :P and yes it is a nice fun relaxing hobby, but can you honestly say you wouldnt make more mods if you got a small amount of money for it? bad as it is its human nature, and anyway people make mods without expecting money, we're a big community here, and we do it for the benefit of everyone, not so much ourselves, if we just made mods for ourselves there wouldnt be any mods up on the nexus, its the community that drives mod creation, we do it to make eachother happy!
  2. hey guys, i was just wondering if it would be possible for you to put a quick list of things your gonna change in skyrim, e.g. leveled lists, spawn points, amount of spawns, new monsters? and other such things, because if that was up then modders could have a quick look and see if there is anything they could offer your team, which is my main idea behind it, because im not exactly sure what you'll be doing with this so it'd be nice to have an idea so that i could see what i can help you guys with, if indeed anything :)
  3. HAH, that sounds like my mum xD...whenever im like, hey i made a mod mum!...she always goes, well can you make some money for it?....or hey mum i wrote a guide to help people....well can u make money for it....its so stupid xD. also i agree on the money aspect xD...whilst i love the nature of mods being free, i'd be a hell of a lot more motivated to make mods if i got 1p per person who got it xDD (especially as if you think, some mods get like 100,000 downloads, which would be £1000!!!)....but hey the nature of modding is mod for the sake of it! and its a free community based thing :)...which is amazing considering how greed driven most of modern society is :P... @saints row 3 ......your joking right :P thats so feckin ridiculous xD
  4. sounds to me like you didnt use IMCN's pause and reset features to safely uninstall it :P although as to why it applies to new savegames too it sounds like it may be cause by another mod to me :P tbph player.forceav healthregen 2 should fix it :P (although 2 will probably make it double vanilla o.O :P)
  5. well you can always use the ingame console http://uesp.net/wiki/skyrim:console theres some information on the console, but for your specific needs setessential 0001A694 1 that command should suffice :)......plus its a lot simpler than using the CK :)....and it doesnt effect your whole game xD...jsut the save you used that command with :)....as well as its easily reversible by using the same command, but replacing the 1 at the end with a 0 :D
  6. hey dude, the advice of the green lion is very good :) just a little edit in respect to the console.....when using the help command to find a weapon's item id its not necessary to put a 4 after the name, simply typing in help "iron sword" will give you the result you need :) ....although if your getting a lot of results putting 4 at the end helps narrow it down by not giving you things like furniture codes :P.....also if the items name is just 1 word then you dont even need the quotation marks! simple help iron will give you every item that has the word iron in its name :) which can be very useful for finding different codes using things like that can be very useful, although sometimes if you dont want something to plonk straight into your inventory you can always use place.placeatme XXXXX N where XXXXX is the item id and N is the number of the item....using a command like this is a bit more versatile as it can apply to bits of furniture or npcs as well as items, meaning if your in a mine and desperately need a smelter, you can just type in help smelter player.placeatme XXXX 1 and voila! a smelter will get placed on top of you xD....although to get rid of it, you have to open the console, click on the smelter, and type in disable, or markfordelete (disable stops the game from rendering it, and markfordelete means the game will delete it when you exit :).....anywho there are a lot more console commands than those few and it can do a lot of different things which can be very helpful, for more information on the console its worth going to UESP anyways as the green lion said, Good luck in your new adventure dude, and enjoy modding, for it is truly the creme de la creme of gaming :)
  7. sorry dude, bumping aint allowed :P as for your problem its strange that applies to all new cells, personally i generally use a lot of mods and i find that the more mods i have that add new areas or new buidings then the higher the chance of CTD i have, as a result i can only use 1 or 2 house mods :(...and if i use anything too large that adds too many items to the game world then i get problems with loading objects, for instance only half the dungeon will load (and yes that includes the floor) so the best advice i can give is to use very few mods that add new houses or such like, small tweaks are fine, and small things, but the bigger something is the worse it'll be :P as far as im aware its a known problem with the games ability to handle resources :P if this problem persists for literally any mod, then either try uninstalling mods gradually (usually at least 1 mod will be a main culprit) or adjust load order, or try using wrye bash or simple uninstall all mods, and reinstall your game (sometimes this can fix all problems, if you use a lot of mods reinstalling the game is something you'll need to do every so often) and then only install must have mods, that way you get what you realy need, and then you can start trying other new mods, or other less necessary mods :) hope that helps dude
  8. well for a ranger im guessing you'll want some cool bows eh :)....well if you check out the bow faal sizaan and then look at the same guys other mods, he has about 5 different really good bows (and yes they are all made of wood!) also the chronicles of steel - realswords has my favourite bow in it! the nordic bow, and also a bunch of cool swords....wot3e is short for weapons of the third era and is a fairly large weapon pack (fairly exclusively swords, no bows as far as im aware) the original maker of the mod actually gave up on it and another modder masterofshadows has taken it over and is continuing some of the work on it :) ......for a ranger i'd highly recommend arrow tweaks and also increased arrow damage as they both increase how deadly arrows are, and arrow tweaks is nice and customisable (although if you use both dont use arrow tweaks arrow damage increases)....another mod you'll almost certainly love is private selective quivers, which basically enables you to use 1 quiver for any arrow type, so you can have some daedric arrows in an iron arrow quiver! and its player only, so you wont see npcs running around with anything but the vanilla quivers :).....although if you want everyone to use the same type of quiver, then just use selective quivers by the same modder! also i'd say that pise and duel combat realism are fairly essential as they improve enemy ai and combat and all sorts of other cool stuff, but on the other hand you could just use SkyRe, as i understand it SkyRe makes ai tweaks and is geared towards combat realism, by making your health and ai health roughly the same and providing damage buffs for everyone, which will level the playing field a fair amout, it also includes extensive reworking of perk trees and all sorts of other things, but its all a matter of preference, if your looking for a nice pack that works perfectly together and is compatible wiht most things, then i'd recommend giving SkyRe a go! (it also has a brilliant module for reworking racial traits which i've used for a long time!) i'd also say that deadly dragons is a must have as vanilla dragons are just lizards with wings:P for armours i'd recommend omegared99 armour compilation, which is a brilliant pack of armours,....also if you like LOTR i'd recommend isilmeriel's lotr weapon pack, it's got legolas's bow, his elven knives, anduril, narsil, glamdring, saurons mace, the witch kings sword and probably a few more i can't remember, but they are all very very good quality weapons!....also jaysus swords is one of the best sword packs around, including many daggers and stuff, although no bows :P finnally skyrim monster mod, is almost certainly another must have, it includes lots and lots and lots of brand new monsters in it and will add a lot of variety to your game, and lots of cool new stuff to kill!!....oh and real wildlife is another good one, as most rangers go hunting! and its also good for users of IMCN (imps more complex needs) which is a hunger sleep and thirst style mod, but you can have it be a lot more complex, and actually involve having a good balanced diet, tracking blood alcohol levels and also caffene levels (yeah it adds coffee and tea!) and also frostfall is a necessity for realism as it means you can die from running around wearing sod all in the snow, but if you take the necessary precautions for wandering the frozen mountains of skyrim its easy to avoid death! and complimenting both IMCN and frostfall is Camping kit of the northern ranger so theres a briefish list of a few must have mods for realism and a few weapon packs and stuff that rangers should like!...hope that helps somewhat, i'd probably add more but i honestly cant remember anything else off the top of my head :P anyways hope you enjoy some of those mods! EDIT: as for fnvedit not really there is wrye smash (the skyrim version of wrye bash) which lets you merge leveled lists of various mods and enables you to merge mods together into 1 esp (although not all mdos are eligible for this) and it also has a lot of other very useful capabilities and features :)...another great utility is BOSS which will auto order your mod list according to their masterlist which is fairly extensive and constantly updated although its not always correct, it will be 98% of the time, but it does also give notes useful to wrye smash users, such as noting which mods should have delev/relev tags and which should not be merged into the bashed patch and a few other things. so for vital programs for managing your mods i'd suggest BOSS, Wrye Smash and Nexus Mod Manager
  9. well on the whole not too bad :) although not keen on the whole cracked effect of the atmorian crown looks like it would shatter when you hit someone xD....and that new gotland scabbard is pretty funky too although too bland colouring, i'd make it have a bit more contrast between the different parts, and a stronger normal map...but that engraved bit looks really cool :D.....and the bronze part of the gotland should be less saturated....the beserker is pretty cool, but personally im really not keen on that marbling effect, i hated it on the original and im sorry to say its not much better on yours, but hey your tweaks have made it a lot more tolerable :P....but personally i'd do away with it :) but all in all not too bad at all :)...make sure you get permissions to upload these retextures :)...also the blood groove on the atmorian crown is really good, but on the other weapons its not so good, if possible i'd also make a similar blood groove texture for the other ones too :)
  10. well lets face it pingu in a top hat with a cane, well what could be better :D

  11. well they turned out very nicely dude! great job :) colours are almost perfect on them (the gold looks great!).... might i suggest once you've got a bit more experience, trying to use a different texture for the helmets metal, something closer to the plate metal of the steel, rather than the dimpled texture of the iron textures, as i think it would fit the steel plate armour a lot better :) but seriously for a first retexture thats a brilliant job man :)...and seeing as you've never even used gimp or photoshop before, well thats just even more impressive!
  12. heh amen to that man, brilliant quote! i dont totally agree with the first bit though, i've seen mods done in a few days that were proper good :P i suppose all this is pretty subjective, depends on your definitions of a good mod, and as such isnt really something that every person can agree on :P....but there are definately some awesome mods around...as for masterpieces, not yet, but as you say, that stuff takes time :P i reckon it'll be at least a few months till we start getting large quest lines and expansive new areas and such like, but hell it'll all be worth it :)
  13. hah that just makes me think of a slow moving space ship getting hit by an asteroid xD.....darned cyber debris :wallbash:
  14. great advice there as well!...if you put the uv map over any of the vanilla textures you'll notice that they've overlapped by quite a lot! the uv map is a guide more than anything :) and as perraine said, its better to go over than do too little and have to redo it :) (which also reiterates the idea of regular saving and using multiple layers, i usually start with an initial file, then from there go v1,2,3.... helps me see my work through its progress, and if i make a mistake at step 5 i can always go back to step 4 or even earlier, which is also useful if you have a sudden change of heart or art direction :) )
  15. hell the more paintings the better! nice new frames are always welcome, same with new pictures :)....hurrah for modders resources!.....also nice mod :) looks really cool :turned:
  16. well you could always start using SPODUMS! sluckyd's portable on demand unlimited mannequins!....everything from men to dragons to mammoths, if you like your mannequins thats an awesome mod :) as for actual homes i cant think of anything, i tend to go for realism myself, so i got a small shack in riverwood and a few mansions xD
  17. No worries at all my friend :) heh texturing is harder than people think xD...as for the texture displaying oddly on the mesh, a great way to get everything aligned properly is to open nifskope, right click on the mesh, go to texture, then select export template, choose the right size that your working at, and drop it into the texture your working on and multiply it in, that way you can see which part of the canvas corresponds to which part of the mesh :)...its a very useful tip, in fact i'd say it was a vital piece of knowledge!....oh and it will render in nifskope, it may be that you need to tweak your settings in nifskope, i make sure all the lines of the mesh are bright blue and clash with everything just so i can see where everything is properly :)....its somewhere in the settings...changing the background can help too heh yeh cutting stuff out can be a pain in the ass :P...i either use the lasso tool and go through outlining it as exact as is physically possible (usually pixel by pixel o.O) or i make a seperate white layer, make it fairly transparent, then use the eraser tool to get rid of everything except what i want (again usually i end up working to exact pixels :P) then i just restore the transparency to 100, blend the layer in and colorize to get the gold colour just so!....and using the original texture as a template is always a good idea, lets face it, we're more familiar with that than a brand new one, so its a perfect way of knowing exactly what and where your editing stuff, so thats almost always a good idea, that combined with the template makes life a lot easier! oooh mammoth tusk you are ambitious :)....that would look awesome! if you get good at making models and textures then you can do a lot of cool stuff :) heh its good to hear your a perfectionist too! if one pixel doesnt look right i get very annoyed with myself o.O HAH! You get a kudos just for including the words "digestive bi-product" in normal conversation xDD as for the crafting and stats and stuff, thats really easy, takes sod all time, the texturing is a lot harder :P...and more time consuming xD if you got the ck you'll have it in game nicely in no time (Y)....but hey its stuff like that that makes all the difference! plus its good to know how to do it ;D anyways ill be around lingering so if you make more progress, or need any help just give us a shout, im always available by pm :)....happy modding! (trust me it can get addicitive xD)
  18. also e.d.w.s enhanced dynamic waether system is a great weather mod, i'd also recommend real ice and real snow and um oh god so many mods xD...i could recomend over 200-300 a lot of these mods also depend on how good your computer is :P
  19. well first let me say, for a first effort, you've done a very good job on that! looks great :) and yes a specular map (usually ends in _sm) is how shiny something is, so for a belt buckle would be white and leather would be dark grey and a normal map is how light hits the object in the game engine, so you can use it to give the illusion of indents without actually making changes to the model of the object, so if you want to accentuate the gold parts, make them a very different colour before using a normal map plugin, something like pure white or black will make is stand out, i think black would be bumpy and white would be a dip, and then play with the values and make the normal map a little bit transparent. a good way to make something look gold is to cut out the part you want gold on a duplicated layer, get rid of everything else, make that cut out part a solid colour, then colorize it to make it goldy, then use the layer styles to merge it into the layer below and then you can colorize it again to make it just right :)....then once your done just flatten the image and save it.....and its always good to do different stuff on different layers in ccase you wanna make any edits to anything, and also to save every few major steps, just a good habit to get into especially when your doing more complex retextures :) at any rates you've done a great job on that and is just a question of little tweaks to the specular map and normal map, and maybe some small ones to the dif map, but on the whole it looks nice n goldy where it should and the rest of the helmet is almost a perfect fit to the plate armour you got :)
  20. yeah definately i'd be intrigued to hear about how you get on  also in wrye smash if you right click theres a "mark mergeable" button that automatically marks what mods can be merged which is useful when compiling your bashed patch, but im still learning all sorts of functions myself xD....experimentation is the best way to learn!! anyways good luck and i hope that that information helped, feel free to message me with more questions, or just to tell me if it worked :) also since i mentioned a tutorial on mod merging heres one i just stumbled across, not sure how good it is though :P http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/10208
  21. heh yeah theres a lot of things in the game that are technically very easy to accomplish, but in actuality are rather hard for reasons such as this, although im sure some modder will do this idea at some stage! most ideas are realised sooner or later :)
  22. its not quite as easy as you may think, well it is, but to get it right isn't....you would need to account for different character weights, and also for different armours, as well as finding that sweet spot where you have as little clipping as possible, i mean it would be really annoying if the bowstring was going straight through your body o.O but i do think this is a good idea, just hard to get right :P
  23. Yes there is, simply open wrye bash, right click on the load order tab near the top while looking at mods, click load > save list...typeon in what you save it as and voila its saved, and to load the saved order, just go to the same part and it'll be near the bottom of the menu :)....you'll see where i mean :)
  24. okie dokie then, first of all, what kind of player are you, are you into roleplaying and realism, or do you like absurd unrealistic pure fantasy stuff? do you find the game hard or easy? what sort of characters do you tend to play? and so on and so on, it all depends on what sort of stuff you like (which is the beauty of modding!) after you give me some more info i can give you a long long list of mods to suit whatever your needs and preferences are :) as for my personal preferences im a realism kinda guy who is a hardcore player who find the vanilla game exceptionally easy. so in keeping with that i use PISE, OCS, Warzones, an old copy of WIS, Imps more complex needs, frostfall, UFO, the dance of death, parts of SkyRe (although if your new and bored of vanilla you may like to use the full SkyRe), increased arrow damage, arrow tweaks, Duel combat realism, Deadly Dragons, Crimson tide, Dovahkiin relaxes too, Camping kit of the northern ranger, realistic lighting with customisation (specifically the CF - True Realistic lighting by xchargerfanx) claralux, Live another Life, Better quest objectives. and a whole raft of other little tweaks, extra equipment, weapons and armour packs...but i think i've covered the main things, although i didnt include any of the item packs or houses or very many graphical mods.....i use roughly 111 mods altogether (probably a few more tbph) but have a look at the ones i mentioned, there are some very good ones there!
