  1. For some reason, this post on the forums: Turned into this on the respective NexusMods page: http://imgur.com/a/DcoBm/embed The resultant post was so long that I had to zoom out to 25% and take 6 screencaps to get the entire thing into one place, even after cutting out the extra line breaks I put into the post to make it flow better on the forums... I put them all into Imgur to save space... When will spoilers work properly on the NexusMods sites, if ever? :3
  2. This will certainly help avoid situations like the one involving a certain mod maker in 2009. All of the mudslinging puts a stain on the Nexus, and on everyone involved. Hopefully the new policies will keep the site's reputation pearly white. One suggestion, related to the locked threads created upon a formal warning being issued: in the spirit of fairness, could only the individual who has been warned be able to post ONE comment on the thread (obviously glanced at by the moderator to see if it is ranting/raving,) so that anyone taking a peak at it can see his/her account of the situation? I understand that the lack of being able to publicly declare one's side of a story is a major complaint about the current moderation system. Anyways, none of the changes are really going to effect me (unless I end up making a mod with 1,000+ downloads,) as I don't plan on breaking any of the rules, but still, in the spirit of a stable, transparent community, I must say that many of the changes are pretty nice. xD Good job! :D
  3. Ello! Just wanted to drop by and say thanks for creating Vilja! I've been using her since the Oblivion version and she really makes both Cyrodil and Skyrim a much brighter place. :D
  4. I choose to play as a female in any game that allows it because it simply feels right to me. Don't ask me why, I don't really know. It has nothing to do with sex, if you're wondering, by the way. It might have something to do with the fact that I am just closer to my female friends than I am to my male friends. I am straight, but I'm not the "macho, football loving" guy who gets into wrestling matches with my friends. I'm not a homophobe (I actually have several gay friends. Unfortunately, they seem interested in "converting" me -.-) though. I may hate football, but if I'm at a friends house and everyone decides to play football, I have no issue with playing (I hate watching sports, I love playing them with friends.) There's just a wall of awkwardness/room between me and my guy friends. However, when I'm with my female friends, that goes out the window. I change from the slightly distanced guy who talks too much into a bubbly person who really doesn't give a f*** about personal images. You might say that I'm a bit of a "girly" guy when I'm around my female friends. All of my close friends are girls, and that's the way it's been for years. I just trust my friends who are girls more than my guy friends, not because they are girls, but because of the fact that I can talk to (some of) them about pretty much anything. I've never really wished for a big brother (I have a younger half brother, but he lives with his dad, I don't have a father. Not a real one, that is... -.-,) but I've always wanted an older sister... Playing a female character to me is less of a visual thing, and more of a yin and yang. I connect more with a female character than I do with a male one because it feels more complete to me. Playing as a male character both feels like it's missing something, like it's unbalanced. It's a different story when playing something like Dishonored, as it's more like you're living in someone's shoes, rather than forging your own path, hand in hand with your creation. Continuing the subject of Dishonored (no spoilers,) I connect with Corvo's love for Emily, who is like a daughter to him, and his quest for vengeance (see? No spoilers :P) The feeling of "just another male hero... yay..." or "see!? women CAN save the world!" have no part in my life, whatsoever. Perusing through this thread (not all 69 pages of it,) I am delighted to find that my feelings are reflected in many female players, and I want to ask, do you have male best friends or siblings that you are close to, as opposed to female ones? I'm curious. :P
  5. Oooo... I like it :D The only thing I didn't like about Vilja from Oblivion was the hair, and it was the first thing that I changed (Luckily you made it so easy to do so.) I can't wait to explore Skyrim with her. It is going to add so much more depth to the game. I've missed her so much in Skyrim, and I've actually been thinking about going back and playing through Oblivion again just to spend time with her. ^^
  6. It has been awhile since I had the issue, but I thought I would tell you of a quick fix I had. If you load the game TWICE, it tends to work. No clue why, but if you load the save file, then load it up again (not via quickload, btw) it doesn't give you any more issues til you restart Skyrim.
  7. Lol. I made a wineglass for oblivion. thats about it. Translucence didn't work. I am about to start college, and got Maya and 3ds Max 2013. Problem is, the 3ds plugin only goes up to 2012..... :( I guess I'll have to use nifscope as a bridge for now.
  8. Trust me, dude. Get an i7. Very zippy. Just one i7 could handle just about any game in the market as of right now. You have to know how to handle the computer properly to get those high-end speeds out of it. My laptop can run Skyrim with only a dual core pentium inside and the HORRIBLE "intel hd graphics family" gpu chipset. You have to keep your computer clean and defragged if you want to eliminate lag. My advice, from a computer geek to a gamer, is to use a 512gb SSD for boot, and have a 1 or 2 tb storage drive inside as well. Install heavy programs and games to the SSD, such as 3ds Max or Skyrim, but place all your crap in the HDD(s). Don't get the 16gb of ram. Instead, save some cash by getting 8 and changing your paging files to use 12gb on each drive. It'll be faster like that anyways. You only need MAYBE 1gb of graphical ram to run pretty much any game at top settings, so 2gb would keep you running fine for a few years at least. Disable most startup services, such as steam and skype, unless you really need them. They might seem inconsequential, but easily nets you another 5 fps, on the level youre computer is at, 20 fps on my level. Steam is a cpu hog. It causes my cpu to flunctuate about .4ghz of processing power higher just running in the background. In the foreground, it eats up about .7ghz of cpu. For a real boost to performance, try disconnecting from the internet and disabling antivirus when you play games. If you do all of that, having quad core i7s and those graphics cards, you could run Skyrim on ultra, with an ENB, and have loading times range from .5 to 2 seconds, with fps running at a steady 55 to 65 while running Warzones and being in the middle of a 200 person battle.
  9. Never found a building I couldn't get into in Skyrim. You might find a couple of whole dungeons that are locked so you dont break a later quest, but I can only think of two examples, and they aren't likely to be stumbled upon until you're in the quest they pertain to. Other than that, the rest of the locked doors are openable when you find the key or do the quest, and are usually pretty hidden away. And the perk system isn't what you think. You have a level cap of 81, and that means that out of 250 or so vanilla perks, you can only get 81 of them. Some have multiple tiers, as well. They have to be unlocked by reaching certain levels in the skill they are for and get the perks that lead up to them, and you have to spend each perk point you get when you level up to actually get them. It's not that game breaking.... I personally use several overhaul mods that add and replace perks, so I have around 3 or 4 hundred available perks, total, and I have a level uncapper, allowing me to theoretically reach level 10,000. But I have put several hundred hours into my character, and have only gotten to 40 something. The game is SOOOO easy at first, aside from a chance encounter with a mammoth or something at level one (tip- RUN LIKE HELL), but depending on your mods, the moment you hit 35, things heat up. Mine was at level 32, and the mods I have imposed a soft level cap as well from then on. Instead of 10 skill increases, it now takes 15, I think. Or maybe its 20. I dont know. Vanilla, that doesn't happen until level 52. Also, dual wielding increases immersion dramatically. Holding a spell with one hand, a sword in the other, and having Fus Ro Dah on the tip of your tongue make for very fast pace gameplay. There is no RIGHT way to play tho. Mages have a fighting chance for once, although mages do tend to become less powerful when they level up in relation to other types of players, but mods fix it. Stealth characters actually have a hard time trying to fight with battle axes. Warriors have much less of an ability to run in and smash everything to death by going nuts with the mouse. You are pushed to specialize in a set of skills, and trying to master all skills makes the game much harder as you start to have trouble keeping up with enemies. Once you level enough, the levels dont matter anymore. You dont go "I wanna level up!" like you would in most games. You are pushed to strategically choose what skills you want to level up, or you'll have your @#$ handed to you by a draugr deathlord or a dragon priest. Dragons suck tho. Hard at first, easy once you get to level 25 or so. Deadly Dragons fixes that. The dragons are given huge health bonuses and damage multipliers (you can set it to normal, tough, and hardcore, or just set your own values), and you have a real challenge when you try to smack that giant lizard with your puny piece of steel (or more likely, glass or orichalcum). Point is, Skyrim IS a very easy game if you plan on playing through the main quest and that's it. You MIGHT hit level 30 if you take your time. But if you play through one of the many side quests (Im guildmaster of the thieves guild and the archmage of the college of winterhold, and I still havent finished the first quest in the main questline), you can easily get lost in the game. I play on expert, and the game has been thoroughly enjoying. I am by no means a casual gamer, and I find Skyrim much more intriguing than Cyrodil. There are a plethora of creatures, and a ton of lore. The OOOOHHHH's and AAAHHHH's of the graphics are something you occupy yourself with at the beginning, as well as running around seeing everything, but by the time youre done finding the main cities (unless you did straight runs from one to the other, no stopping), you've already gotten tangled up in 30 different questlines and you're feeling pressured to decide what type of character you want to make. Then, you'll take your time mapping out your path, skill-wise, and you will start exploring and finishing interesting side quests. Afterwards, you'll decide you want to find out what this "college" or you want to track down the thieves guild. You get pulled along by the quests and you enjoy the plot twists in each story as you find that enemies are starting to be a bit difficult to take on. Then, you finish out the questline and feel pride as you reap the rewards. You then get wrapped up in yet another quest, or maybe you just wanna dungeon troll. You start getting some useful loot, and you realize you REALLY need somewhere to call home. So you try to track one down, and you end up doing 20 more quests by the time you have an opportunity to buy one. Then, LO AND BEHOLD! you have a companion available! You have to decide whether you want to continue the solo act or let them tag along, which brings both pros and cons. Sooner or later you will end up having to think pretty hard about what youre going to take with you when you go somewhere, and who you might want with you. Trust me, this game is much deeper than Oblivion, once you start sinking into it.
  10. Actually, only some computers have it preinstalled. Mine, for instance, had to download them when I plugged it in. Bought the laptop a few monthes ago with win7 on it. Linux is the only system (other than Xbox) that has it built in. I plugged it in while running Ubuntu and it INSTANTLY flashed green then had the 1 quadrant lit up. It even has the old Xbox controller drivers built in.
  11. I have used the PS3 controller on PC. use MotionInJoy. You can use it to emulate the 360 controller with the PS3 controller. I played Skyrim with it, and had no problems with lag or whatnot. I have just bought a black X360 controller for my PC (the PS3 controller wasnt mine) and I plan on buying a Classic White PS3 controller to complement it, because while the PS3 controller IS nice to use on the computer, I thoroughly enjoy using BOTH controllers. Anyways, the point is, just plug the PS3 controller in to your computer and install MotionInJoy (its free and itll be called "DS3 Tool" on your computer), then tell it to load the MotionInJoy drivers for the PS3 controller by clicking driver manager and selecting your controller (should be the only item, if not, unplug and replug so you can see it), then click load driver. Click profiles and select x-input. Then click enable, and thats it! If you are going to buy one tho, get the 360 controller. It feels GREAT in your hands. The wired one is very light and has a pretty long cable with an in-line breakaway. The for-windows version and normal wired version are the same, btw. Just get the cheapest one. Got new one for 40 something on Amazon.
  12. I am not really a modder, myself, but I often find myself wishing I could create an installer for mods that have multiple options that you have to mess with the files to change. Such as ones that retex weapons/armor, and contain multiple variants. Or, I could take retexes of other mods, and put them into the original armor/weapon mod, and swap between them whenever I want just by reinstalling the mod. Could someone who knows how to set up those types of things please make a guide for it, and sticky it somewhere? I'm pretty sure I'm not the only person who would like one. I've trolled google and the nexusmods for one, and can only find requests... I have opened up the script files in mods that have them, and it would take me quite a while to figure it out by myself, so.... Anyone wanna help? Or at least give me a link to where I can figure it out?
  13. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D found this, and it fixed my problem! I have about 20 companion mods (ive been looking for some to tide me over til Vilja is released for Skyrim), and i think installing/uninstalling them, along with UFO, made my game think i had around 10 followers XD
  14. I fixed mine without deleting save files by opening the start menu (in windows) and typing "%appdata%", then clicking "roaming", which shows up in the options. I then clicked "appdata" on the upper bar in the window that opened up. then opened "local", and deleted the "skyrim" folder. this is where skyrim stores your list of plugins and their load order (in simple text files XD). afterwards, i ran boss and got my load order the way i like it. once that was done, i disabled all the mods that add companions, armors, and the like. i only left core overhauls and stuff on (like apachiiskyhair or a vampire overhaul. anything that your game depends on, and will break your character/lose you tons of work if you disable it), and started up my save that is about 2 seconds before you get to pick a character (just make a new game if you dont have one like that.) i made a random nord and saved, and it WORKED!!!, i then loaded my normal save, and it works just fine :'D. anyways, i dont know why it happened, but thats what fixed it for me, without deleting all of my save files. lol. i know the thread is over 2 weeks old, but i see this as a pretty important bit of info, sooo.......... lol. hope this helps anyone who ends up with this problem like i did
  15. I suggest a heavy use of Dwemer ruins. It just makes sense. And I'm pretty much free to work on stuff 24/7. Just don't have my computer right now. Something went bad on it and it's being fixed.
  16. Lolz. Yeah. It's in bad shape when you start the game, but as you work your way through the game (possibly with custom quests involving hidden dwarven technology), you get various upgrades. Anyways, if I can, I'll update my CK to whatever the newest version is and play with scripting for a while, and while I do, I'll try making some spells like what an android might use (tho it would probably use flamethrowers or something like that) as practice. Lolz. Sound good? I need to learn how to do that stuff for more complex mods I'm thinking about making (trust me.... I'll need practice) and I might as well try to help you in the process :D
  17. This sounds interesting. I'd love to help, once I have my computer back from the repair shop. I'm a noob with texturing/modeling, but I can try to throw some stuff together to maybe get a few of your concepts up and running. And maybe make the water breathing a quest thing? Like, the bot will sustain water damage, and will need to be repaired if it gets wet (it'll be rusty and, therefore slower, until it rests and repairs itself), until it goes through a quest where it has an extensive upgrade that renders it waterproof. Lol.
  18. My idea, have the bottom of the city rock showing in the sky, maybe with outer walls visible (Idk what it'll look like) and have a scripted teleportation to the city, so it's really a new area. That way you don't have to worry about loading up anything other than your city
  19. Not sure how it would be applied as only a cosmetic change, but belua sangunaire does something similar. Anyways, my suggestion, if all you want is the stuff you listed, edit the vampire versions of the race by copying the data from the normal version. Change the textures they use to the default race ones, but tell the game to use only red/orange eyes. If my computer weren't in repair shop, I'd do this for you myself. I have a backup installation of skyrim on a flash drive just for when I want to test mods on vanilla (my play installation is WAYY too modded to ensure a mod works as it should :P). So, in a few days, if you haven't fixed this, I should have my laptop, and I'll whip up a mod for you. Lolz. Because it'll use whatever textures normal races do, it'll be compatible with unp/cbbe. Ok? :D If I get it back today or tomorrow, I'll upload a pure eye-change variant, and one for pale/eye-change. The color change to the skin should not be hard coded. When you become a vampire, you go through a race change to a vampire version of your race. Because it's default tint is more pale than the normal, you get more pale. You just have to change the default tint to be identical. I've messed with this in the oblivion cs, and as long as the CK isn't bugged, it should work perfectly
  20. I have my mouse swapped too :P and my power/shout key is "c", and I swapped space with e so it's like morrowind/oblivion. F is draw/sheath weapons, and r is swap camera mode. Shift is toggle sneak, and control is run (I use caps lock to toggle run, I never use the run button). I have f1 as skills, f2 as inventory, f3 as magick, and f4 as map. I think the rest is default. Lolz
  21. Never gotten very high, but I have an uncapper (skse plugin) that removes skill caps, which, in effect, increases the level cap. So, technically I can get my each of my skills up to 10000. Lolz. Don't remember the name of it tho. I really don't wanna break the game, even with mods, so I'm gonna be leveling normally, beating most quests and stuff.
  22. Unfortunately, it happens constantly D: Just got an account here, luckily I tried refreshing first thing and it worked :D
  23. I'd like the option to push the thalmor out of skyrim. I HATE them. Stupid, egotistical, religion-bashing idiots...... I even went back to their little embassy and wiped them out after the quest there XD. Lolz.
  24. I'd like the option to push the thalmor out of skyrim. I HATE them. Stupid, egotistical, religion-bashing idiots...... I even went back to their little embassy and wiped them out after the quest there XD. Lolz.
  25. I am a guy who mostly plays as a female character because all of the mods for Skyrim that improve characters (by adding Armour, adding races, etc) that are well done are usually for only women characters. I have yet to see a custom race for Skyrim that supports male characters AND looks good. And all the Armour looks horrible or it just turns him into a walking block of steel. Until better options for male characters are available, I'll be playing as a female. The focus isn't sexual, it's just practical *shrugs.* I normally play in 1st person anyways. Lolz.
