  1. For future reference, punctuation is awfully helpful for people who might be interested in helping you out. :D But you've been around here for a while, so I won't be annoying about it. :P At any rate, do you use OBMM or BOSS? OBMM would tell you what gets overwritten between the two mods, and since they're pretty similar (I guess, I don't use either) that can be helpful for deciding what you want to do. And BOSS can put everything where it needs to go load-order wise. Both can be found through a quick search of the Nexus. Hope that helped! Triforce1
  2. It appears the author sporadically takes it down and puts it back up for one reason or another. Whatever the reason may be, just hang around for a little while. It's been down a few times before, but Iliana has thus far always put it back. I did hear that it was hosted on Megaupload as well. No idea though, I'd just wait. That way, you respect the author for whatever reason they had for hiding it and you also get whatever updates are current. It's a great mod. Waiting didn't make it any less so for me. Hope my cyclical answer helped a little. ;) Triforce1
  3. I love talking mods, it's been a long time since I've been able to do so. There are so many favorites, this may be a slightly longer list than you wanted. But one can never have too many mods, am I right? :D Mandatory -Unofficial Oblivion Patch -Unofficial Oblivion Patch Supplement -Oblivion Script Extender Almost Mandatory: -Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul -Alternative Start by Ship -Better Cities -Companion Share and Recruit -DarkUI'd Darn -Deadly Reflex -Keychain -Natural Environments -Real Lava -Reznod's Mannequins -Unique Landscapes Compilation (there's also an OMOD of all of the patches for these mods - they install automatically and I recommend that too) Like Great Textures and Better Meshes? -Qarl's Texture Pack III (get the patch to make it play nice with the UOP) -Alluring Potion Bottles -Alluring Wine Bottles -High Resolution Book Jackets -Imperial Bank (comes with an excellent gold retexture I recommend) -Improved Horses -Landscape LOD Textures Replacement -Loading Screens Themed Replacers (there's quite a few, with compatibility for DarkUI'd Darn, OOO, and add-ons for several of the mods listed) -Darker Regal Imperial City -Merged Maps -LOD Noise Replacer New Quests and New Lands -Elsweyr Deserts of Anequina -Kvatch Rebuilt -Dragon Captions' The Elder Council -Stirk -The Lost Spires Got Any DLC? -Colored Shivering Isles World Map -High Resolution Book Jackets SI -Bomret's Texture Pack SI -Battlehorn Castle Enhanced (Fighter's Stronghold) -Frostcrag Reborn (Wizard's Tower) New Guild Stuff -A Brotherhood Renewed (Dark Brotherhood) -Theives Guild HQ Unhealthy Competition (Thieves Guild) -Origin of the Mages Guild (Mages Guild) Other Stuff I Recommend -Animated Window Lighting System -More Than Almost Everything Visible When Distant (get the Lite version if you want your computer to live) -Clocks of Cyrodiil That was a much longer list than I had anticipated. I had intended to hyperlink them all, but that was beginning to seem ridiculous. Search them all on the Nexus, you'll find them. Except for the MTAEVWD mod, I believe you can find that on Planet Elder Scrolls. Also, Lost Spires has it's own website. Oh, and Improved Horses is on AlienSlof's site, if you want that. I hope my absurd list is helpful, and good luck with your modding! -Triforce1 --EDIT-- It occurs to me that I forgot utilities! I figured I might mention them, as they make installing a ton of mods fairly easy and painless. You're probably already familiar with these, but I'll mention them for posterity. :) -Better Oblivion Sorting Software -ArchiveInvalidation Invalidated! -Oblivion Mod Manager -The Elder Scrolls LOD Generator -Operation Optimization -Streamline
  4. My own remedy to the situation. Whenever I want to summon a mount I have made, I use this tutorial here. I made several in the past, and even my own Daedroth mount mod uses the same principle. If the above is better (as it is shorter), don't hesitate to use it. My own two cents, is all. As far as getting stuck in walls, I've never had that issue when using this method, but I guess you'll see in your own situation. Good luck! Triforce1
  5. This would be incredibly difficult, if not entirely unfeasible. If I read your request right, you're asking that many mods that do the same thing be grouped together? In any case, that would be difficult. The main problem I see is getting all of those modders to agree to lump their hard work into a big package. And you would still run into overwrite issues. There is really no easy way to do such a thing, though I don't hold anything against you for asking. :D My recommendation is this. You say you aren't really familiar with the tools of the trade? Tell you what, I was certainly not either. Most people aren't in the beginning. But mod tools are really your best friend. I'd get Oblivion Mod Manager, if you're familiar with it. Really quite simple to use, once you get the hang of it. If you can't figure it out the first time, just ask around. Or, look here. ;) Download your mods, load them into here as per instructions, and you have a one stop shop for all of your mods in a list, and you can uninstall / install them at the click of a button. Of course, you should install in a certain order, but if you've gotten this far then we can get to that later. Once you have that sorted out, go for Better Oblivion Sorting Software. Follow those relatively simple instructions (put in your Data file and run the Batch) and all of your .esm's and .esp's are pretty much guaranteed to be in the right place. I had a devil of a time figuring that out the first time, then I found BOSS and now I never worry about it. I've also gotten a tad smarter in that realm, as well. And as far as not knowing which mods to download, there a lot of resources on that as well. Though, really your best bet will be to use the lovely search bar on the TES Nexus homepage. Pick some keywords and go with it. And check the Top Mods list from time to time. Good ones are guaranteed to how up there. :) Happy modding! Triforce1
  6. Leave it to someone else to beat into my head something that really should be obvious to begin with. The more I think about it, the more I'm liking the idea of just making a new, small world space and mapping that out instead. The performance hit on that rock was ridiculous as it was. And, perhaps, we can forget about the crazy idiot who tried to build a flying island out of a huge freaking rock? Thanks so much. :p
  7. Well, I have a feeling it won't matter anyway, thank you. :( See, to give you a good picture representation, I threw a high resolution rock texture (turned out to be about 1024x1024) onto it, added some serious collision (so you could walk on it), and dropped it into the game world in the air next to the Imperial City. As it is, it takes up a few square cells, I'd say about the same surface size or bigger than the Imperial City itself. But the issue is, the game lagged ridiculous while I was in the cells it occupied (and it was loaded and visible, of course). Completely and totally unplayable. And the texture would still need to be far better than just 1024 square, I can see that. I'm not sure what specifically caused this lag, in truth, because a similarly sized texture of vanilla quality caused no lag at all. So, I assume texture. There is no picture to judge scale because I could not take one, the lag was so bad. So, if anyone has any ideas on how to fix this, thank you. Otherwise, I'll just have to figure out something else.
  8. I recently finished a rather large static object for use in Oblivion, and I want to texture it. It is essentially a giant rock, meant to be used as a large floating island. Because it was meant to be a chunk of terrain where none could be actually generated, it has a pretty high poly count, about 27K tri's. A quick search of the Nexus tells me this number is acceptable, (by comparison to, say, an armor I found that professes to have over 86K tri's) if to only more well-equipped PC's. As it is meant for terrain, I intend to texture it in vanilla land textures, the same tiling ones found in the terrain editor. I can do that, no problem. However, I have a few questions, and to the half of you who are still reading this, thanks, because I thought a little / lot of background was in order. :p Now, to business. 1) How large should the texture map be? I understand the scaling rule, but the largest I've seen are high resolution LOD textures 4096x4096 in size. What would you recommend the size of my map be? A single texture for this object would be preferred, so what do you think? 2) When I wrote this, I thought I had another question. Now, I guess not. So, if anyone has anything interesting to say, then please do tell me. ;) Thanks a ton.
  9. Qarl's Texture Pack III Unique Landscapes Compilation Better Cities Of course, these are "favorites," laid over top of other "must-haves" such as: Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul DarkUI'd Darn (+DarkUI Themed Loading Screens) The Unofficial Patches Kvatch Rebuilt Animated Window Lighting System If you expanded it out past three, I could list a few more. As it is, it's really hard to narrow it down like that. That's why I failed miserably. :D
  10. This is quite true, thank you both. However, I have tried both and neither solution is much to my taste. I do like the ability to fast travel every now and again, so not being able to would put kind of a kink in my style. Also, the toggle map markers console command never saves for me, so I get the places, already discovered, added to my map, for just that session. When I open the game once more, everything has gone back to normal. I was hoping for a mod that bridged the gap, as I described above. I would make it myself, but I've never been good with the inner mechanics of the CS. Thanks for the suggestions anyway, though. Anyone else got any input?
  11. I like to adventure, and explore new places. Lots of them. But call me crazy, I like to know where I'm going. If the mod does not already exist (If it does, I must be blind. I've searched for awhile, multiple times), could someone make a mod that will reveal all map markers in the game (that would include modded locations, I'm sure), but not enable them for fast travel? Like, after you get a quest location, but must still travel there? That way, I know what I'm looking for but can still be surprised when I get there. Or something. http://thenexusforums.com/public/style_emoticons/Dark/happy.gif Thanks in advance. Triforce1
  12. Those plugins have never worked properly for me within Maya. If I want something to retain all aspects through format changes, I usually use FBX and feed it through the 3ds Max I have access to. It exports nif files like a charm. My problem with the nif exporter for Maya is that Oblivion won't take the version. And it's the newest one, so I dunno what the issue is. My two cents.
  13. The first Zelda game I ever played was Oracle of Ages for the GameBoy. That got me hooked onto the bigger ones. For me, it's so close between Wind Waker and Twilight Princess that I can't really choose. Both were so different in most aspects, but still held true to the Zelda formula. I'm thinking that a lot of the plot moments and story elements in Wind Waker were better, but Twilight Princess looked better. And even though he looks cooler in Twilight Princess, the character of Ganondorf is way better in Wind Waker. You get to hear his back story, and for one game he isn't just the crazy sorcerer dude. And we learn that he's a pretty dominating swordsman, too.
  14. Thanks. I'll look into my model and see what the problem might be. Probably some stretched faces. Or maybe when NifSkope converted to tris...I should've done that myself...
  15. It is my "Sword of Ganondorf" mod, which you can find here.
  16. Alright. Well, thanks anyway. Anyone else have any ideas?
  17. Check them? As in how? As it is, they are linked just fine. I checked, and also made sure that the files on the other end hadn't gotten messed up somehow. They're fine. Any other ideas?
  18. http://i671.photobucket.com/albums/vv74/OccidentalAnvil/sword.jpg Whenever this sword is swapped in and out of inventory, the black faces change location. From what I can tell, it has something to do with the light shining on it, but then when you go outside with it the problem persists. The only way to "fix" it is to un-equip and re-equip the sword until the black faces go away. It's really frustrating. And it isn't just my system either; play testers have trouble with this too. Help?
  19. Nintendo's always been my favorite, unique games abound. Besides, where would the gaming world be without Mario, Zelda, Metroid, and the like? :P I stick with that and PC, because every game I've wanted that came out on the PS3 or Xbox 360 was eventually available on the PC. And I do like my PC. But yeah, the day Nintendo learns that it's possible to have the kind of console they like to make with the graphics of their competitors, their sales will really go through the roof.
  20. I actually only got it recently. Just in time for the 1.50 patch and all that free stuff. I'm a big fan of Call of Duty for it's graphics and close-quarters combat. I also happen to be better at CoD than BF2. :D But for a large-scale, battlefield experience, I've yet to find a better game than BF2. Besides, I like vehicles. A good IO match is fine, but I like my helicopters after awhile...
  21. I'm using a BFG Tech nVIDIA GTX295 and it's the greatest thing ever. Resolution playing at 1680x1050. Ultra settings, with QTP3, a 4096x4096 LOD mod, LOD noise replacer, and as many other crazy graphical mods as I could find. Looks amazing, really. I've never bothered measuring FPS because to my eyes, it's very smooth.
  22. The upload is neither legal nor illegal; it's one of those gray-area things that you might / might not get in trouble for. I think that the moderator opinions around here tend to not allow that stuff though. This same thing happened to my Oblivion disk; I tried everything. I even tried again after I updated my computer. Same "data6.cab CRC error," so I decided it must have been all the scratches. I only fixed it by buying a new copy of Oblivion (GotY Edition, since it only costs $20 now :) ). You're probably going to have to get a new disk, or find the file somewhere else. Perhaps you could contact BethSoft and get them to send you a new disk...?
  23. Yeah, they have Fallout 3: New Vegas to worry about right now. At least, sort of. They've handed that over to Obsidian, but they still have a big hand in it. Also, they're publishing several games primarily produced by other companies, which you can see here. But no news on the next big, solely-Bethesda enterprise just yet. But I have a feeling that round about a couple months from now, we'll hear about it.
  24. I don't know much about these "fully customize online computer" sites; all I see in them is a do-it-yourself computer with a cool paint job and some sort of outside warranty. But for those who have just enough technical experience to know what they want, but not enough to plug a system together, it's a great idea. Back to the "I don't know much" thing, though. You have some very top-notch parts there my man, and I personally think you are set. Do get a security system that is streamlined for gaming though; all that money to have Norton screw with you would be a waste. I've had Norton 360 for years, and I vow that the next time I need security for a new computer, I'm gonna search for an alternative. Also, pick yourself out a good ASUS nVIDIA-based board. The one listed above could do you no wrong, either. Don't go with that Intel branded board; Gishank is right. Same on the 260 front, get rid of it. I've got a BFG 295 and it's great. I like your processor fine, it being an Intel i7 and all. I love me some Intel, but it is surely a personal choice between that and AMD. The chassis is good, totally personal choice. Good idea on the hard drives, however, I have all of those games (or similar ones) and I've already used up the more than 60GB of super storage you seem to intend games for. But that's your choice. Removing the 260 should give you a cushion for more room anyway. That 2TB is likely necessary for all the other things you do, too, LHammonds is very correct. I understand you intended to choose 64bt OS, that's good for the memory usage. Don't lnow what the step up monitor is for that setup, regardless you'll be very happy with that brand / size / resolution. You'll love your speakers; I've always had Creative and I've never looked back. Speaking of which, I would recommend upgrading your sound card to get the most out of your speakers / games / video editing. You'll be wanting something with X-Fi, that Audigy doesn't seem to have it. I'm quite happy with my X-Fi Xtreme Gamer, had it for several years, and I hear it has come down in price. If it was me, I'd also go with a different brand of RAM, OCZ / Corsair are my favorites, but that is choice as well. Also, an interesting point was brought up. What kind of power supply are you going to get? I highly recommend PC Power and Cooling, but you may like another brand due to their horrible cable management. Can't beat them for quality though. I have a PC P&C Silencer 710, and I couldn't be happier. I hear BFG is up and coming that regard, though. Oh goodness, I seem to have written an essay. :D Sorry to be so long-winded / nit-picky, but I do like to see gamers get what in a system for what they want to pay. I hope this monologue has been at least as helpful as it was boring, and I hope you tell us how you get along when you do finally pick out a system. Good luck! -Triforce1
  25. The Bogeyman checks under his closet for Chuck Norris when he goes to sleep. Chuck Norris isn't afraid of the Dark, the Dark is afraid of Chuck Norris. Chuck Norris and Superman decided to race around the world, and the loser would have to wear his underwear on the outside. When you woke up this morning, it was because Chuck Norris allowed you to live.
