  1. A new one...an anime version of myself :)

    http://i683.photobucket.com/albums/vv200/Illiana86/anime-me.jpg

My hair is normally a light brown, but my boyfriend and I thought blonde would be cool on me :)

Hmm Keanu, you got me thinking...I'll have something up for ya in the next few days

  2. If you have the time, could I make one more request? If it isn't too much trouble, could you make me something like...no, wait, I'll throw caution to the wind on this one. Surprise me! :teehee:

Haha...surprise ya huh? Hmmm :P In the middle of doing an anime version of myself, so we'll see ;)

@SilverDNA haha Chicken? It's Red from Angry Birds :P I think he's supposed to be a cardinal.

Yeah Alias, SAI uses a lot less RAM. But, I have 8 gigs of DDR3 1600, so Photoshop being a hog won't kill me :P I have it set to use 4GB currently. I like how SAI loads a heck of a lot quicker though. Photoshop Elements you have to wait for that stupid splash screen to pop up, then hit "Edit", then wait more time. I click SAI, less than a second later, it loads :D

It does have a lot of nice brushes and tons of free ones as well. They are nice for adding some effects, but I try not to use them. The only one I've used so far is the fur detail with the doggie. I'm going to re-do her sooner or later and try to add the detail without the fur brush.

@lv000 Meh...I dunno about that. The only thing that I do that comes close to social media is this...and it's enough. I did get a coupon with the tablet for a free shop with Cafe Press for a year. It doesn't expire, so when I get better, I might open a shop on there. Dunno if I would sell much anyways, no way of advertising. I don't do Twitter, Facebook, and all that other nonsense, and I'll be damned if I'll make any of those just to sell some crap :P

  3. Everyone has to start somewhere. Your drawings look nice, Illiad.

I've been using Photoshop for a while and mostly do everything that isn't the actual sketching for a friend of mine. I'd recommend you get PaintTool SAI. It is made for your specific purpose and the lines in my opinion come out much nicer than Photoshop. Photoshop to me is a photo-editor and your special effects program, but Photoshop for most part can do everything well, at least. So do the sketching and base colors in SAI (and maybe some cel-shading), then soft shade and do some lighting and background in Photoshop.

Yeah, I've been messing around in SAI more. Much better for the lineart portion of the drawings. Little easier to use with the tablet as well. The colour wheel is awesome. Photoshop you had to click the swatch then modify it, here I can just slide my pen around the wheel and find the right colour :) Hopefully the tax returns come in before my trial is up haha.

It's nice that Photoshop files work in SAI (dunno if .sai files work in Photoshop though :P), I can switch if needed. PS seems to be a bit better in the shading area, but I haven't done anything crazy in SAI yet, just the sparrow.

  4. A bit? I found quite a lot of it,as you say, "douchey"...I'm not reading it as "constructive criticism"...I'm reading it as "You suck, you don't know how to draw." If you read any of my explanations... I've had this tablet for less than a month, only been using Photoshop for less than a month, and haven't picked up physical media in almost 10 years. Thanks....

Well, this is my style. I love anime characters. They can be quite expressive, it all depends on the artist. When I worked in physical media, I did comic book and anime style people as well. Just what I like to do.

Not sure what I'm doing next. After messing around in PaintTool SAI more, I think I will get a license for it when the tax returns come in :) It feels more designed for a tablet. I drew the sparrow in it.

  5. And the suffering, we went shopping yesterday, you can't imagine the horror I went through. Six hours of walking from store to store just so she can buy herself a pair of jeans. Listening about shoes, coats, dresses, shirts and pants was so painful I wanted to jump out of a window. Damn bulletproof glass

Dear God, I wouldn't put up with that...and I'm a woman :P I HATE clothes shopping with a passion, I don't see how any woman likes it. Gotta try on 20 pairs of jeans just to find the right ones. Yeah, they are all the same size you supposedly wear, but nearly half of them don't fit...argh! haha :P

Coming from a woman, the "yapping" your gf is pulling seems kinda over the top. I would never yap at my boyfriend for a week for something he said "wrong". I wouldn't complain about food and yell at him for it. Just my opinion, she sounds like one of those women that wants to nag/yap to start drama. Ugh, I hate drama...creates stress to the body and mind of both parties, what's the point?

We are strange creatures indeed haha. Lanceor has it right that we respond more emotionally than men on many subjects. I dunno, we are all different. I don't respond as emotionally as most I suppose. If my boyfriend has work to do and he has to stay up late, go ahead. Half the time I fall asleep before we both get to bed anyways

  6. I'm one of the few that prefered Morrowinds Combat, Morrowinds combat was about character skill as most RPGs used to be, Oblivions was player skill. What Morrowind badly needed was a "miss" animation or anything that at least told the player they'd missed rather than it looking like dodgy collision.

You're not the only one. I can't remember how many people have said the combat was either "too hard" or "too clunky" in Morrowind. You needed some skill to get a hit right in it, no mashing of the left click. Loved it.

Sadly, I don't think Bethesda will never make an Elder Scrolls game like Morrowind again. It's "too hard" by today's standards...

  7. I'm not saying it's hard to switch over from paper to tablet, it's hard to draw something nice in general :P

In fact due to my shaky hands I draw far better on tablet than I do on paper. SAI has this amazing smooth lines option, and a lineart option. It's like the pen tool in photoshop, but it's so much easier to use you could just melt away at it's user-friendlyness. That is basically the main selling point of SAI, the lineart options.

Anyway I'm glad to hear you have fun, I got frustrated soon because I am too perfectionist and OCD for drawing.

Yeah, I was looking at that particular part of the program. As ya see, I do a lot of anime/manga style stuff :D LazyNezumi is like the smooth lines option in SAI. It's a pretty cool little program, works with about every type of art software. Works with your mouse too:

    http://people.happycoders.org/kamih/lazynezumi

SAI looks like a nice program and all...but it's $60 lol. For that price, I was expecting it to look less like something from Windows 95

Elements doesn't have the Pen Tool. I consider that "cheating" lol...as long as you have a steady hand you can draw very smooth curves on the tablet. I use LazyNezumi to smooth them out just slightly. I just think it looks too well "Photoshopped" when the lines are perfect :P

    Which tablet do you have?

  8. I dunno, it didn't seem that hard to switch over. Just took a bit of messing around in the preferences to get the pressure sensitivity and speed down right :) I honestly thought it was going to be a lot harder. I've also know some basic Photoshop stuff (mostly from messing around in GIMP editing our astrophotography pics), but I just learned how to shade and use layers like that just recently.

I just looked at that program. It looks pretty nice. People say it's a good alternative to Photoshop because it's not such a hog. Dunno, I got a full version of Elements for free with the tablet and it runs pretty well. I also use this little thinger called LazyNazumi to help smooth out the curved lines. I can already draw a curve on the tablet pretty nicely, but LazyNazumi cleans it up a bit for me :)

Haha, I'm quite surprised myself. I never really worked in colour..but it's so fun on this :D I might try doing a black and white "pencil sketch" after I finish Keanu's sparrow :)

  9. A sparrow? Hmm, I could do that. I've been wanting to learn to draw animals more. I never really did them when I did pencil and paper. Be fun, I love watching sparrows...they come to my window sill because I put seed out for them. It's more for the cat than the birds though, he loves watching them :P

Here's my newest one, just finished her up a few mins ago :)

I might add some stars or something to the black background, I'm not sure yet

  10. Diablo III for me...huge kick in the teeth for anyone that liked D II. I won't go any further, that game is fricking terrible. At least Path of Exile is in the works. Bf has been playing the closed beta for a week or so...it's so much like Diablo II yet it isn't. Very cool game.
  11. Soon :) Currently working on a drawing of mama-in-law's dog. Been changing it all the time lol. Also learning how to colour and shade using layers. It's a lot easier than I thought it would be. Pretty nice too, if I screw up on a layer, I can delete/modify it without messing up the other layers :)

Found some nice brushes to work with as well. I've just been using the soft brush or the airbrush. But I found ones that are like using a pencil, mechanical pencil, chalk, etc. Found a fantastic fur brush to add detail to the dog too.

Once I clean up the kitchen and make tea, I'll finish up the dog. Then I gotta think of what to make next :P

Ohh haha I used the tablet to put in a Santa hat on my avatar, so much easier than trying to draw it in with a mouse.

edit: And here she is :) Miss Beastie

  12. Jeez, I think I have about 700 hours into Oblivion. I lost count lol. Conquered that game though, found and did everything. That was before mods. Decided to mod it and pretty much stopped playing it when I went to Windows 7. Didn't want to re-install it haha...would take hours :P

Nowadays, I mostly play the Angry Birds series. Kinda burnt out on everything else, so I play a couple levels a day.

  13. I bought The Witcher Enhanced Edition for $2.50 so far. My physical copy is damaged so I got a Steam copy. What the heck, it's dirt cheap. I'm considering purchasing Dragon Age: Origins...$7.50. I've heard it's a good game and all..but man, I hate EA lol :P

Other than that, I can't think of anything else to get.

  14. Well, Snowzilla passed, now the East Coast gets to suffer :P We got 10" total after it all stopped late last night. Now it's flipping cold and windy out...will be a pain to shovel and plow the remainder.
