  1. It's not... My game loads fine and they are showing as being in the correct order in NMM. But in FNVEdit it's keeping me from cleaning Dead Money because it's showing FalloutNV.esm as the second plug in. I also can't check for compatibility issues because it crashes the load order. I'm stumped as to what could be causing it.
  2. While its definitely a great pre-release, I'm looking forward to the full game. I have my first playthrough just about maxed out on upgrades.
  3. Well, there are places that I know bandits should be if the mod were working correctly and they are never there. I have used the mod many times before on my old laptop. I'll try that but I think according to some author's notes correlation I had placed it down there trying to get it to work. I'm actually back here right now because of another ctd. Seems to be happening more and more the higher level I get.
  4. Hey, thanks for any help... I'm about level 36 on this playthrough with these mods but it seems to me that at least one mod is not working. Banditry. I used Loot to order, TES5Edit to clean and then searched and re-search all the author notes to make final adjustments to my load order but still it seems that one mod is not working and I do get the rare CTD. Anyone have any ideas what I did wrong? My game is at C:\program files(x86)\steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim My specs are: i5 4440 @3.1GHz msi gtx 970 gaming 4gb Lenovo OEM mobo 8gb (2x4gb) dual channel RAM eVGA 600B PSU All DLC, NMM, SKSE, RealVision ENB v.0266 My load order:
  5. I'm going to need to break this down point by point. I will hold you to this statement. I actually never said that. Please reread what I said. What I did say was that Programming a machine to be Self-Willed is a paradox. If you program it to act then it is acting on your programming and not acting in self-will. Self-will being a major part of the very hard to define set of ideas that we have agreed to call "sentience". Ok... So you don't see a huge difference between a bird using a stick to get ants out of a knot-hole and Man building rocket powered vehicles to carry themselves into outer space? Or a gigantic difference between the most advanced chimp's problem solving skills and Einstein's theory of Relativity? I could go on, but if my point has not been made with a reader yet, I will assume that no comparison ever will. I have no reason to refute this statement, nor did I ever, specifically or implicitly. Animals are fabulous, wondrous creatures and some of my favorite relationships in this world have been with animals. I have nothing but the utmost respect for them. 1 I never claimed that non-human things will never gain these abilities. You are putting words in my mouth. Please, stop that. 2 You do not know. I am satisfied with the explanation that I have found through living this life. 3 I have now been called arrogant and ignorant regarding a statement that I never made. 1. Again, you don't know. I am fully aware of why we are here based on my belief system. 2. This is where I will hold you to your statement in the beginning of this discourse. You claim that this conversation is "getting too religious" for you. And that you believe that your beliefs and faith are no one's concern and will not be brought up in a public discussion and then you start smashing people over the head with your religious beliefs under the guise of calling them not religious beliefs and simply stating them as fact. You asspouse to the Dogma that we once were as animals were. Me, in particular, and many millions of people in this world, do not believe that. More Dogma. Dogma, dogma and more dogma... You belong to the that great unnamed religion that worships Human Understanding. And, you browbeat everyone who doesn't belong to your religion with your religion's dogmata. This religion posing as a non-religion gains access to Forums that Ban Religious Debate by simply pretending it's not a religion. You have to love the lies that get told enough that so many people believe them so they are accepted as truth. Yes... on this statement I can agree. I never actually said that "it never will". Again, you are putting words in my mouth. And again, I ask you to please stop that. I also never said that animals are animals and will never be more. Please stop calling me arrogant regarding statements I never made. Honestly, I don't quite know how to respond to your apology... but I will try. I was not offended in so much as I do not appreciate being called things like arrogant and ignorant in a debate situation. It is my understanding that name calling comes when the lack of an actual argument is apparent. Much worse to be called these things in reference to statements that I never made and that I can only assume that you inferred from the things I did say. I, too, apologize if my statements were not clearly enough stated in such a way as to not have you carry away more meaning than I intended. I fear you expect too much from others. Try not to be too hard us... we're only Human. To answer these questions we must first realize that this thread was a question about religion, from its very inception, if you are a person who delves deeper into a subject then just to give it a cursory glance and a superficial response. While I have made references to the spiritual aspect of the possibility of man creating "sentience" in a construct, on purpose or by accident, I did make sure to leave my statements as open-ended as I could to ensure that I was being as inclusive of what people may believe as possible. Also, those statements were made as laments and observations from my own perspective and were presented as such. If you care to reread them, you will find that is the case.
  6. Come on, man.. I don't recall, it was sooo long ago. I have a faint memory of a Frost Spider... perhaps that's why I dislike them so much.
  7. I think that you have inadvertently hit the proverbial nail on the head. Your use of my analogy, which was a poor analogy at best, would have been best served by you saying: We could have that car. What we will not have is someone who will pay to have it built. What you did say is more fulfilling of my perspective. We may well have ability to build a computer that can equal the processing power of the human brain at some point. But, having that still will not make that machine capable of self will. If such a "construct" could be construed as "sentient" (assuming we can define exactly what sentience is) then no, we do not have the right to claim such an object as "property". This whole argument reminds me of Data's Trial which I agreed with at the time and my opinions havn't changed. To assume that a biological brain is somehow special and can never be understood or replicated or in some way set upon a pedestal above all others is basically magical thinking and very close to religious dogma. I assert that what you call "religious dogma" is exactly the element of being human which cannot be understood nor replicated. It saddens me that so many fail to see the uniqueness of humanity amongst the world of living entities. To religate us to merely an advanced animal status is precisely the kind of constraint that would hold us back from ever achieving such a goal as creating a self-willed construct capable of complex emotions of its own. Programming a construct to be self willed is an oxymoron, a juxtaposition of two things that are inherently opposed. Or, more correctly, a paradox. To entertain the thought of such things is akin to pulling together the ingredients of the so called "primordial ooze", applying some type of power, and hoping to see new life spring up from it. Now, we have entered the realm of the Gods. For only the Gods can do that which is impossible. The Miraculous... Or, if you will, to be the witness to a so called "Quirk of Fate" which has only happened once in 4.54 billion years. Believe what you will... dream... hope... but on your deathbed remember my words from here. You will NEVER see a truly self-willed machine in all the days of your life.
  8. I believe the specific definition of "Sentient" was laid out in the initial post as: But, I do agree that the common, modern connotation of this word has gone far beyond its original definition to encompass the meaning of several related words combined... And, I am guilty of using the word in that same manner in previous posts. I think it would be more fitting to say: that "je ne sais quoi" of being Human. And I can only chose Human because we know of no other entity possessing that certain something. Saying that my point of view "doesn't hold water" is a poor excuse for a counter-argument. Especially if you are going to site "advances in processing power" as your path to the creation of anything that is completely beyond possibility. No matter how far we advance the gasoline powered internal combustion engine, it will never make a car that can run across the surface of the earth at the speed of light. Make a valid argument that man will ever understand the complexities of what it means to be human, even just on an intellectual level, nevermind a spiritual level, or concede that I am correct. Very well said and actually on topic. My intention was never to derail this thread, but this last part of your post makes me fear I may have done just that.
  9. A machine can be programmed to learn, that has already been accomplished. Learning algorithms are a current reality and improvements will come quickly. Programming concepts which we fully understand is possible. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pp89tTDxXuI What a machine cannot be programmed to do is to be human. We cannot program a machine to do something that we do not fully understand ourselves. To think that it will "just happen" once machines learn how to improve learning algorithms which it would then apply to itself or other machines is like thinking a tornado can go through a junkyard and a functional jumbo jet could be created in its wake. It's not going to happen. The idea that I underestimate Man's ability to innovate is an assumption that has no basis. As stated in my previous post, I believe that Man has been far more advanced for a much longer time than most people alive would give us credit for. But regardless of our abilities, we still cannot replicate, in Artificial Intelligence, that which we do not comprehend. All the instances you mention in your first paragraph are things we fully understand followed by hopes and dreams. Hopes and dreams which would require a leap forward that far outpaces going from horse and buggy to space travel. Please refer to my above answer to the post by HeyYou. Your second paragraph is based on so many assumptions and contradictions that I digress on the basis of keeping the thread on topic.
  10. First, the video was beautifully presented and actually made me cry. That's art, baby... Second, this conversation (as fun and disturbing and probing of modern morality, or lack thereof, as it may be) is much like asking if walking on the surface of the Sun would be more like being in mud or water. The very idea that AI could be raised to a level that could be called sentient (in the definition intended here to mean: be fundamentally alive) is ridiculous. It smacks of the arrogance that assumes that modern man is the most advanced man that has ever existed and when confronted with evidence that men from the past could achieve feats modern man is incapable of matching, then surely, aliens from another planet must have shown man how to do those things. It truly makes me laugh.
  11. Your i5 4460 is a very good gaming CPU and will run Skyrim modded without issues. 8 GBs of RAM will also be fine. The gt 720 is going to be a problem. I know you have 2 GB of vRAM and that helps with texture mods but a 720 is designed for "office use" not for gaming. Trust me, I just upgraded from a gt 635( which is roughly equal to your 720), to a gtx 970 oced and it is a whole world of difference. I recommend using LITE versions of texture mods or 1k where available and avoid 4k textures at all costs. So, you're going to need to keep your settings on low, remove shadows and track down any mods that increase performance. CTD's can be avoided by downloading, understanding and using a good mod manager, Loot and TES5Edit. Lots of great videos out there on using these and getting your load order down. If after getting them in the best order you can figure and cleaning all your mods, you are still having CTD's, you can come here with your load order and try to get some help. Corrupt saves can be avoided by never adding mods during a play though. Wait until you are ready to start a new game before adding new mods or even taking away any you currently have installed. "Save bloat" I am unaware of. I have had over 500 saves stored with no issues. As far as a decline in your performance you can avoid that by using a temp file cleaning app such as CCleaner from piriform and defragging your HDD once a month or so. I use Defraggler also from Piriform.com, both are free and easy to use. Never defrag an SSD. The way it is your PC should last for years and years. That said, it would increase your enjoyment by miles if you were to upgrade to a true gaming level graphics card and an accompanying PSU to power it, if as I suspect, your PC is an "off the shelf" rather than custom built. NVIDIA uses a system that grades it's cards by series number. For example, your card is a 700 series; my old card was a 600 series; my new card is a 900 series. These numbers denote which "generation" a card is from... higher is newer. The second numbers of a card denote its performance level. 0-35 is low-end, not for 3D. 40-65 are mid range, or entry level gaming cards. 70+ are high quality gaming cards capable of High+ settings at 1080p with good FPS. As a side note, GT cards are low-end where as GTX are considered gaming cards. So your 720, while a relatively newer card, has a very low performance level that is not actually made to render 3D video games. It will, if you do all you can to help it, and you will enjoy skyrim, no doubt... but if you want see skyrim the way it was intended, or even go beyond to the fantastic world that the hardworking modders here at Nexus have made available to us Skyrim lovers, then work yourself up a budget for a better GPU and a proper PSU to power it. A GTX 960 will blow your GT 720 right out of the water for around $200 USD which is a bargain beyond belief compared to just over a year ago.
  12. Thank you cd... There is, in fact, an update to TES5Edit since I installed it last. I was using version 3.0.34 and 3.1.0 has been released. Also, thanks for the clarification on how Loot actually works. Now, if I could just remember how to make the shortcut that nifty little icon that leads to the .exe instead of a folder that leads to the folder, I'd be golden. lol
  13. Well, since I'm a player/mod-user and not a mod creator. your survey had questions I was unable to answer. You should adjust your answers to allow "players" to give true answers or modify your post to reflect that you are only looking for mod creators to answer your survey. I apologize if I misunderstood something and open to correction.
  14. You can use the spoiler tag by clicking the 3rd icon to the right of your avatar after highlighting whatever you want inside the tag. It will say "Special BB Code" when you mouse over it. Right click it and then select Spoiler from the dropdown menu. Like this:
