  1. If it's anything like Avatar, it's bound to be good.
  2. Hey all! I've had an idea for the longest time, that I personally have invested some time in. This is it. Idea: Islands populated with an orcish cult of druids, leading up to a story and quest unlike any other offered in Skyrim. Geography: A series of islands, or isles.West of Skyrim.West of High Rock.North of YokudaIn the oceanic region West of Tamriel. Lore: "After the creation of the Second Orisinium, Gortwog gro-Nagorm claimed that Malacath was not the true deity of the Orcs, rather Trinimac - who was said to have been devoured by Beothia - is the true religious idol of the Orismer. Some orcs within, and most out denounce the idea, believing it as heresy." - http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Orsinium?file=Raesa_Pullia.png A certain cult of orcs had left Orisinium, angered by this Trinimac idea. They fled the city into the hills of western High Rock, where they resided for several years. They were then ousted by the native Breton population, which is when they fled further West into the ocean only to find a series of islands: The Dread Isles. The Dread Isles, was dubbed its name due to its dreadful state. It looks as if it were burnt. Dead trees, rock, and soot. It was later found that one of the islands was the host of a volcano, which had erupted in the past to scorch the isles completely, but has grown to become dormant. The orcs who had fled to these islands set up a civilization of sorts, secluded from the rest of Tamriel, but more importantly: away from Orisinium. Forts were erected, some settlements were built, with a small central city being constructed in and around the walls of the volcano. With no land to cultivate and no trees to prosper from, the populace turned to Malacath to rebuild the islands in a beautiful image of prosperity and growth. Malacath had answered their prayers by giving a select few the gift of Druidic Magic. These leaders of the cult grew to become master druids, recreating the islands in an image suitable their needs and Malacath's image. Years pass, and the East Empire Trading Company scouts spot the isles and investigate. This is where we are left off in the modern Tamrielic time standard. Story/Quest: A courier approaches the Dragonborn, giving him a letter. The Dragonborn opens the letter and is invited to a meeting of EETC representatives, which is where he is hired to board a ship and head West to investigate the issue with the "hostile" inhabitants of the isles. The Dragonborn arrives at the island at the base of a towering fort, and is told to raid it, killing anyone inside. The EETC then sets up a base camp of sorts with the aid of Imperial soldiers in the tower. The Dragonborn is then instructed to investigate a tunnel at the base of the fort. He is then captured by members of the druidic cult, and taken to the prison inside the city of the volcano. He is tricked into revealing the EETC's plans to acquire the isles as a giant distribution point within their trade routes. The Dragonborn at this point is given the chance to side with the orcs, or side with the EETC. The story continues for a long while, sort of imitating the civil war quests in Skyrim, with the odd "retrieve X in order to Y." Longshot Ideas and or Implementations: Siding with the orcs will be siding with a daedric cult of druidic wizards, unlocking the powers of the druid within yourself. You will also be given powers respective the Daedric Prince behind the ordeal - Malacath. Whereas siding with the EETC results in being able to lead a small customizable army of soldiers and mercenaries into several battles/raids across the isles. Where the Mod Stands Now: I personally have invested many hours already into creating the landscape of the islands, as I love the Creation Kit and the creating of new lands.I have personally come up with a long and drawn out story to coincide with the lore of the Elder Scrolls and the story of the Dragonborn. No NPCs.No new druid-themed magic. No quests. Where I Would Like this Mod to Go: I can realistically see this mod being wildly popular among the Nexus community, seeing as how we do not have a large mod coinciding with the idea of druids. There are some mods out there that already have druid magic implemented, and I can see the magic being used in this mod if allowed to team up and collaborate.I can see a team of modders coming together to create a story and new land rivaling the huge up and coming mods such as Luftahraan, Rochebere, and the Lost Isles, or even some already in existence: Wyrmstooth and Falskaar. What is Needed: A team of talented modders with different skill sets: scripting, quest creation, landscaping, etc.Your ideas! This mod has so much potential, and it really is a dream of mine to see the story come to fruition. Well, there it is. My whole idea is out there. Regardless of what happens, I will continue to map out this mod as best I can alone or with a team to back me up. A big thanks goes to Bethesda for creating my all time favorite game series, and to Nexus for allowing me to spew out ideas into their forums.
  3. @ BeyondTom: Thanks man! I appreciate the advice. I didn't take in to account how different it really would have been with the cost efficiency in mind. Not a good idea on my part. @ Everyone Else: I hear your comments, and all are appreciated, but I do believe I will try the Nvidia inspector and v-sync, as they seem reasonable.
  4. Hello all. I am having frequent crashes and stutters in my Skyrim game, and I have no idea how it is happening. I have enough specs to run it the way I have been, and I run at a stable 55-60 fps with Nvidia Geforce optimization. Specs: Alienware M17x R4: IntelĀ® Core i7-3630QM CPU @2.40 GHzRAM: 5.88 (useable) GB64 bit OSNVIDIA GeForce GTX 660MLoad Order: Attached............... When attach system works again. Any info would help, thanks! If not enough info was provided, post and I'll add more.
  5. This is what I had in mind when purchasing the laptop itself a while back. Now, the greater question is: How should I go about implementing this card if it all works out and fits, and is compatible. Should I take it to a third party to put it in for me?
  6. What if I were to employ the service of a professional? Such as Geek Squad, Dell, etc..
  7. Oh wow, I never realized that the 660M was different than the 660. Now the M stands for mini, what's the dimensions of that card? A 760 probably wouldn't even fit now...
  8. Hello, all. I've been experiencing some anomalies in my Skyrim game for quite some time now, where the fps will range from 20-50, and I suspect that y hardware is the cause. This is highly irregular as I have a rather nice gaming laptop; its specs are listed below. Alienware M17x R4: IntelĀ® Core i7-3630QM CPU @2.40 GHzRAM: 5.88 (useable) GB64 bit OSNVIDIA GeForce GTX 660M I would like the best performance possible, not specifically for Skyrim, but for Skyrim as one on the list. My Windows Experience Index rates my Processor and RAM both at a 7.6 (7.9 being the max rating), but rates my Graphics at a 5.5. This suggests that I need to purchase a new graphics card? My NVIDIA 660M is nice and all, as it can pump out Ultra graphics, 1k textures (not quite 2k), and over maybe 20 mods that alter visuals within the game. A 770 would be a dream to buy and implement; however, by chatting with experts from Dell, it wouldn't physically fit in my computer. Can anyone confirm? A 670 or 760 would physically fit in my system (using this site http://www.nvidia.com/content/HelpMeChoose/fx2/HelpMeChoose.asp?lang=en-us); would either of these help boost performance to keep a steady 50-60 fps? Also, to add to my case, a copy of my latest Performance Monitor logs is attached as an MSpaint doc. If a load order is required for the solving of this, I am more than happy to attach another file to the top and subsequent post. But as far as I know, the visual mods that I have installed are: aMidianborn: Book of Silence + subsequent textures unadded to BookClimates of TamrielSkyrim 2k Textures (Lite)W.A.T.E.R.Enhanced Snow TexturesEnhanced Distant Land 1 + 2Thanks so much to anyone who can answer this. I am not the best when it comes to computers, let alone the insides of them, but i try my best.
  9. I am certainly not capable for scripting type mods, but maybe someone could open the gate for passage unless the certain quest is active.
  10. +1 This is a pretty sick idea. Much scripting would be involved though.
  11. Would it be difficult to create with all of the scripting involved with the quest itself? For example: Farkas is supposed to go werewolf at one point in Dustman's Cairn whilst you are stuck behind a cage. Would a key be able to work around this? If so, it would be a rather simple mod to create, linking keys to places unopened.
  12. Good day all. I have an idea for a mod that I would personally like to create for the betterment of the Skyrim modding community here on the Nexus site. So listen up. Have you ever had a character who's weapon choice involved a weapon of legendary status, or maybe an armor choice that was meant to be divine? Well this mod may be for you! With the WIP mod "Legendary Artifact Enhancements" I intend to buff and balance all Daedric, Aedric, and Legendary weapons in game. What qualifies as a Legendary artifact you ask? Well, let's list some. WuuthradHarkon's SwordRed Eagle's Fury/BaneYsgramor's ShieldMiraak's SwordAnd the list goes on and on, including all of the Daedric/Aedric Artifacts. I fully intend to make these as a bundled file; one that is all inclusive. But I would also like to create separate optional files for those w/o Dawnguard or Dragonborn or both or any other possible combination. (Why some people still don't pay $5 for these during steam sales is beyond me...) In this forum, I'd like anyone, and everyone to make suggestions, comment, criticize, etc... Maybe some people would like to help with the mod; anyone is welcome, given the work put forth is worthwhile. Plans include but are not limited to: Revamped Daedric ArtifactsRevamped Aedric ArtifactsRevamped Legendaries/UniquesFull DLC and non DLC supportJava installer (for picking and choosing which to revamp?)SkyRe compatibility, for those hardcore gamers such as myselfPlease post your ideas! I'd love to hear back from people! This is rather ambitious for me, being my first mod, so I will certainly need others' opinions. Please note that I would like to keep this lore friendly and balanced to make these objects as enjoyable as they sound without breaking the game entirely. Thanks!
  13. I also second. Alduin's intro scene is rather buggy, as he now calls me a "Skeever butt" with "Slug breath..."
  14. DOF (Depth of Field): Blurs/smears portions of screen in which your character is not focused upon. Reflections: Reflects color/images on certain surfaces in the presence of adequate light. SSAO (Screen Space Ambient Occlusion): A technique used to render. I've tried to summarize the three aspects of a typical ENB above. If I am incorrect, please feel free to fix anything I've stated. By the looks of it, I would not be too interested in keeping these files activated with the ENB running. Are there any before/after pictures showing these file active/inactive respectively? If these files were disabled, how much fps loss would I have, approximately? I truly would like my game to run at its steady 30-35 fps to keep performance there, but I love the color, vibrancy, and effects of ENBs. Thanks again!
  15. I've gotten fed up, so I had installed the lower version of the Deadly Spell Impacts mod. This seemed to have fixed the problem for a while; however, the problem kept arising in many situations - one of which is when a dragon attacks Winterhold, and mages scatter en masse. Uninstalling the mod altogether has definitely fixed it now. I'm ashamed to say, but certain texture load orders may cause this with my setup. Without this mod though, this problem does not occur with any known spells.
  16. I also have this problem with one of my saves. It may be that the power of my computer will not be able to handle all the chaos the spells cause, or it may not be. Every once in a while I'll get a CTD with destruction spells, only destruction spells.
  17. So, I've tried many ENB files so far into my game, but alas, none of which seem to work out well performance wise. Some of the ENB's I have tried are as follows: Sharpshooter's V 1.0Sharpshooter's V 2.0The Wilds ENB (wrapper CoT edition)None of these ENB's seem to give the performance minimum that I would like. What files may be holding back the performance of gameplay, or fps? What are some alternative ENB mods with similar looks but a lesser fps drop? Edit: I have also tried a new third-party fps counter, and saw a great difference from the previous counter, which is unsettling to say the least. My new average fps count is 30-35 with all of my mods installed and in use, and without ENB more importantly. Adding an ENB now will lower my fps to an unplayable 10-15, maybe? The fps seemed to lower when looking out into a large distance (which is expected) and when looking at things closer and without having many objects in view, the fps was 45 and above. A simple stroll through Whiterun kept the fps at a solid 30. Is there possibly one way to uncap my fps if capped? Or maybe use my gpu/cpu to a higher extent? I know not a lot about computers unfortunately, so there is little insight I can add to this general information...
  18. Hmm... I see your point with the injector version, however I did install one version of Sharpshooter's ENB, the 1.0 version and it seemed to have no conflicts. The ENB greatly assaulted the framerate, on the other hand. There is a second version of Sharpshooter's ENB, the 2.0 version, which is more up to date. I may go and try this version as opposed to the 1.0 files. The 2.0 style claims to be less taxing on the framerate and performance, however does not look as good; I have no problem with this, as I am really going for a balanced game between performance and graphics quality. All of my mods seem to work fine, and if I must change any I will. I do not need to keep all of my graphic-altering mods, as the ENB makes up for them tenfold. If I were to try this Sharpshooter ENB 2.0, would I see much of a difference from 1.0? Key Points: My current mods mean little compared to successfully installing a great ENB.I am very fond of Sharpshooter's ENB look.I like cinematic and saturated graphics, as Sharpshooter's contains both.I am very grateful for your feedback, as you seem to actually listen to me, unlike others. Thanks again, LargeStyle!
  19. Thanks so much! You really did answer all of my questions, and I thank you for that. I appreciate how you also explained your own personal ENB experience, as I have yet to use one. I'm also very thankful for this bit of information, as several mods I've looked at and liked require a clean save; so I do not use them. I'm not sure how these forums work, as I am new to the Nexus, but my questions have been answered and this thread can be locked. Unless of course someone else would put their specs up for others to judge with regards to ENB use. Thanks again! Edit: Ok, scratch that last comment, I have one more question... What mods, if any, would I need to remove if I apply an ENB? I'm kinda sorta looking at Sharpshooter's ENB (http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/15105) as the ENB I like more than the others, and it has its own lighting effects, textures it seems, and water effects. My load order is shown above, and it may have some compatibility issues with the ENB. For example: W.A.T.E.R. may conflict with the water textures in Sharpshooter's ENB, or Climates of Tamriel conflicting with the lighting effects.
  20. Well, you guys both must misunderstand this thread; it was created to ask about requirements for ENB. I made this thread to better understand ENB, not to help others, I'm afraid. I'm still looking for an answer regarding my original question, whether or not I will be able to run ENB, and to possibly link me to a site/article explaining these requirements. I would rather ask around about this subject before downloading a huge file and wasting a good amount of time downloading.
  21. Hello, everybody! I am relatively new to modding Skyrim, and modding in general and had a few questions. If this is in the wrong forums section, feel free to move it, by all means. I want to know: What kind of computer qualifies as a computer with enough power to run Skyrim with an ENB mod? I have not seen any threads on any other forums regarding this topic, let alone the nexus forums, and am willing to start a thread regarding this. How much RAM is recommended for the use of ENB?Is one ENB more forgiving than the others when coming down to performance and framerate? And ultimately, what are the minimum requirements on a machine in order to run ENB without a massive drop in the gameplay experience?I personally have an Alienware M17x R4 Laptop, and the specifics are: Intel Core i7-3630 QM CPU @ 2.40 GHzNVIDIA GeForce GTX 660M Graphics Card6.00 GB RAM64-bit OSWindows 7 Home PremiumMy current TES V: Skyrim load order is attached in the below file; it currently runs at around 50-60 fps (I believe). Will I be able to run an ENB smoothly? And if so, which is recommended? I truly would like my question(s) answered, it would help me out a lot, as it would save me many a trial-and-error instances. Thank you very much! ~Lloyd
