  1. Hello guys, I'm one of those "nothing works, I've tried everything"... I'm going to detail my problem, then my specs, my load order and finally everything that I've tried. I'm pretty experienced with FO3/FN:V modding (on Win XP/7 at least), but I can't figure out what's going on here. I'll try to be as clear and precise as I can. The issue: after many headaches, I managed to get the game running with no crash, no stutters, with mods (all details are below). The only issue is that whenever one or more NPC enters a combat state (melee or ranged, so it's not related to particles, decals and the like), the game starts to stutter. It freezes for like half a second every second or so. If I kill the NPC(s) or holster my weapon and the NPC stops being hostile, then everything goes back to normal. The framerate drops to around 50fps when killing the caravan and its guards in front of Megaton (~6 NPCs), with the Protectron shooting laser and the mr Handy (Deputy Steel) using a flamethrower. I have a save at that exact spot so I can test and replicate the problem. I'm using the Steam GOTY version btw. Specs: (brand new rig) - Win 10 Home edition (I did the FCU update) - ASUS Crosshair Hero VI X370 - Ryzen 5 1600x (6 cores/12 threads) OC @ 4.1 Ghz Stable w/BeQuiet! Dark Rock 3 cooler ( 60c max temp after 24h of AIDA64) - KFA2 GTX 1060 6GB EXOC - 2x8GB G.Skill FlareX 3200Mhz CL14 - Toshiba A100 128GB SSD (boot drive) - 2x 2Tb Seagate Barracuda HDD's (Programs, Data, Games) - Samsung 840 Evo 512Gb SSD (Programs, Games, Steam main directory) - Corsair RM650x PSU, 80+ gold, 650w - CoolerMaster MasterCase Pro 5 w/a s*** ton of fans. Load Order: (planned to add more, this is just "the basics" for me) Fallout3.esm Anchorage.esmThePitt.esmBrokenSteel.esmPointLookout.esmZeta.esmUnofficial Fallout 3 Patch.esmCALIBR.esmCRAFT.esmFO3 Wanderers Edition - Main File.esmDCInteriors_ComboEdition.esmProject Beauty.esmDarNifiedUIF3.espmegalight.espVTHideout.espMoreMapMarkers.espDree Perks.espFO3 Wanderers Edition - Main File.espFO3 Wanderers Edition - DLC Anchorage.espFO3 Wanderers Edition - DLC The Pitt.espFO3 Wanderers Edition - DLC Broken Steel.espFO3 Wanderers Edition - DLC Point Lookout.espFO3 Wanderers Edition - DLC Mothership Zeta.espUUF3P - FWE Patch.espRealistic Interior Lighting.espmidlifecrisis.espmidlifeAnchorage.espFO3 Wanderers Edition - More Gore.espJIP Fast-Travel Anywhere.espCASM.espMerged.esp FOSE plugins: Stutter Remover, NVAC, OneTweak, UiO, Enhanced 1st person camera. Other mods: DarnUI with Revelation UI, NMC texture pack Max quality. Replaced a few NMC's texs with Ojo Bueno (NV Version) ones, and some custom made ones (2k diffuse, 2k normal max). Replaced Project Beauty heads texs with Fallout Character Overhaul (NV version) ones (Works pretty fine btw). I should point out that every time I dl a mod, I unpack it and check every single textures to removes alpha channels that are useless, properly compress and mip-map them using PS and Nvdia plugins. Most modders don't think about this and leave blank alpha's on the diffuses, glow or metalness. Removing them uses less memory at runtime. What I've tried so far: We all know that Gamebryo and multithreading aren't good friends. I use Process Lasso which allows me to set CPU affinity/priority for FO3. Since I'm on a R5 1600x, I set Affinity to CPU 0 and CPU 2, which are my physical cores (meaning, not my logical ones, not my "threads"). Priority on High. Tried without Process Lasso and the game tends to CTD when I get fried by flamethrowers and shot at from that Megaton caravan I was talking about. In both Fallout.ini and FalloutPrefs, I set iNumHWThreads=2, bUseThreadedAI=1 and all other "threaded" lines like Blood, Morpher, Temp and Particles to =1 EXCEPT for Audio of course. Tried with and without those, various combinations, still the same. My fose_loader.exe, fallout3.exe and FalloutLauncher.exe have the LAA flag (did it with CFF Explorer), and are set to Run as Admin and XP SP3 compatibility. The game was initially on my 840 Evo SSD, but I moved it to one of my HDD (which is brand new) and it's the same story. Tried messing with Fallout Stutter Remover settings (tried ALL of em), and the ReplaceHeap setting made the game much more stable, even though it's usually not recommended. I also tried without FSR, same issue. Tried to uninstall all of my mods and toggle off ArchiveInvalidationInvalidated, same again and again (I'm using FOMM btw). Clean install didn't change anything. Installed DX9, .NET Framework many times. Tried using enbboost & latest FONV/FO3 enb - the funny thing is that ReShade doesn't work, enb does work however and I can get the in-game GUI BUT the effects do nothing, only the injector version works and it systematically leads to CTDs. So no hooks .dll seems to work here. I also tried to disable SMT (Or Hyperthreading, same thing) to no avail. The combat is simply unplayable while the rest is perfect. I'm at a dead end. I suspect Win 10 Fall Creator Update to be responsible for most of this, but as is, the game is unplayable. I was planning on doing all Fallout games from 1 to 4 but I'm afraid that it'll be the same kind of problems with FN:V, which is my favorite. However, from experience I found FN:V to be much more robust and more optimized. I heard about Tales of Two Wastelands recently, could that be a way to play FO3 decently? Do anyone else has the same kind of issues and hardware than me? Thanks in advance :)
  2. Hey mate, I know it's an old topic but that's something a lot of people ask me so it might help other ppl. I made some screenshots for it to be as clear as possible. It's the very basic though, most of the things you'll have to learn by yourself. This is a Gecko texture by EWI.
  3. First of all, grab Mod Configurator Menu (MCM), NVSE script Extender, Fallout Mod Manager (FOMM) and UIO (User interface organizer) - oHud, for a more immersive & tweakable HUD. - Enhanced Camera that allows you too see your body in first person (and also be in first person while sitting & dying, very cool), - And of course Project Nevada, a pretty big highly tweakable overhaul. A must have! Rebalance the game, cool features, minor graphics enhancements. - Dynavision 3 for Depth of Field and other VERY cool effects, cinema like. Or just plain DoF if you want. Low impact on perfomance too! - Fallout Carachter Overhaul, retexturing of all faces for more realism, along with Weapon Retexturing Project from Millena. Complete overhaul of almost every weapons. Nevada Skies, adds weather effetcs and nice skies. Storms, rain, radioactive sand storms... - Essential Visual Enhancement (EVE), which adds cool blood, laser & plasma effetcs, a must have. - Wasteland clothing Hires retexture, self explainatory. Then, one of my favourite: - Ultimatum. NPC are reactive: they won't like it if you wander around with your weapon, aiming at them! You can loose some reputation if you aim at them, you can make them surrender, and slave 'em so you can steal everything they have. Inject a craftable poison in their back, push 'em, whistle for sneaking diversion, shout "Get down!"... bad guy's mod . All of that is parametric via MCM. - Killable children too, just for fun and realism. Finally, - A World of Pain (AWOP), adds 114+ locations and new monsters, new loots, along with Monster mod. Tons of new monsters. Last but not least, my all time favorite - Light up and smoke those cigarettes! Adds smokable ciagrettes that you can loot just about everywhere, even cigares! Adds a bonus, but you can get addicted. If you're playing in hardcorde mode, I would recommend Leather Backpack. A simple backpack that you can throw, put things in it and let it where you droped it. You can spawn a bed with it too, very useful in hardcore. Adds 50 points to carry items if you wear it, companions can wear it too. ENB's if your PC can handle it. Otherwise, search the Nexus, full of good stuff! Have fun, PM me if you have questions, I'll be glad to help if I can!
  4. We're goin' to rule the 3D realm with you guys, while eating tacos - with frog legs, why not after all? IT'S ON, GUYS, TACOLUTION (with freakin' frog legs!) Thanks for the welcome guys, looking forward to see you wandering theses forums :)
  5. If you wanna make a mod for Skyrim/NV/FO3/Morrowind/Oblivion, then it's fine, you can use and mod Bethesda's content as long as you use 'em within their games. If you wanna make a whole other game, get into UE4. There's a lot of templates to start with. Of course you'll have to learn of lot of things, but UE4 is pretty straight forward. Go ahead, create some stuff! UE4 has a very different workflow, you won't be working with GECK, .nif and all that stuff. Look what Bethesda did on their games, play around with GECK so you have basic knowledge of how to make a game. You can try to copy their stuff, but don't steal their content. That's illegal, and importing content from other games is prohibited by UE4/UDK license (and other real time engines to, like Unity). It's ok if it is just to learn - to see how things are done, but don't release content you imported from any other game. Then, get a 3d package (Blender, 3Ds or Maya Student edition, Mudbox, Sculptris... All free!), and make some basic assets like crates, barrels... Get Photoshop, Gimp or Paint.net and make some textures. Then, learn the blueprints system to make basic gameplay. Don't try to make the game you dream of, you won't be able to. Just make some simple things, have fun, keep learning, and with 2-3 months of learning modeling/game design, you'll be on your way, guaranteed. It's all about trial and error. If you keep working hard, you'll eventually find some guys to work with... There comes the fun part! Modding, making an "indie" game or wathever, and maybe you'll be Greenlighted on Steam someday... DON'T FORGET TO HAVE SOME FUN! PM me if you need to, I'll be glad to help ya' mate
  6. Don't get me wrong but... Why enabling AA (especially at highest setting) if you're playing in 1080p, which I assume you do? It's a useless ressource overkill imao. The issues you described are really similar to what you can get when overclocking your GPU too much, but other members above seems to know your issue better than me. Is your GPU OC'ed?
  7. Then it's alright, and imo a very good way of learning. You should consider getting 3ds or maya though, they're free now with a 3 year licence (as a student edition, but it's the full version with updates, unlike cracked versions). Mudbox is free too, in the same maner. Actually the whole Entertainement Suite (3ds, Maya, Softimage, MotionBuilder etc...) is free as student edition. Just type in any school name when they ask it for the download, they won't check, and when your licence expire... Just redo it  Or, you could go for Blender. Free, open source, completely modular, very powerful, it even has functionality that "the two bigs" (3ds & Maya) don't. Plus, it's constantly evolving, and if you need a particular feature, you can add it with an easy to learn programming language, Python, or kindly ask a programmer who might do it for you! Have fun!
  8. There's also MakeHuman, it was a Blender plugin before but a free, open source stand-alone now. It's under the CC0 license, so you can do both commercial and non-commercial stuff with it. Really cool piece of soft. Accurate anatomy with good topology & uv's + different diffuse and normal maps (for different ethnics), great base for sculpting, or even ready for production depending on your needs. A hell lot of parameters to tweak your character, so you can make a dude/dudess with a good face, one that has personality. You can add teeth, hairs, clothes... They come rigged too. AND there's proxy meshes, if you want to start from scratch! A must have, really. http://www.makehuman.org/
  9. Yeah yeah, I know :P c'mon, let your rage fulfill your heart, come to the dark side... Actually I like playing it with a controller because I can rest my lazy ass on a lazy sofa rather than being sit in a chair. Lazy lazyness over 9000. I hate people that play FPS on console though, I'm a strange guy :P And thank you! :) And yes, I like tacos, with a lot of spicy thingy in it. So i get diarreha the day after.
  10. Old topic, but it might help other people: another solution would be UE Viewer, a wonderful tool by gildor available here: http://www.gildor.org/en/projects/umodel You can view all sort of models, textures (including normal and spec maps), uv sets, rigs, animaions, and extract them. It works with almost every Unreal Engine 1/2/3 games, and Gildor also provides a tool for extracting audio from UE games. 3D Ripper DX is also a solution, but it's tricky and requires editing in a 3D package, Max, Maya, or Blender for exemple (I don't know if Daz 3D is capable of doing such things). It only works with DX9 games though, but all DX9 games are supported. If you're smart, you could extract content from emulated games too... (PS1/2, Gamecube, Wii, Dreamcast, N64...) Some games also have this kind of tools, but it's game specific. For exemple, I was able to unlock the UE3 editor of Mirror's Edge by putting somes files from Unreal Tournament 3 in the ME folder. I had a lot of fun playing around with the editor, learning how things are done by pros. It might work with Mass Effect and other UE games too - some even provide the editor with the game altogether. Please note that this is considered reverse engenring, and it's illegal. I learned a lot of things with Mirror's Edge content, but keep in mind that you CANNOT use content from other games in wathever project, be it commercial or not, it's like stealing other artist's work... It's lame, and illegal. You can - and will - get legal issues if you do. Use theses kind of tools ONLY for educational purpose!
  11. Hello everyone! My name is Maxime, and I like playing (some) computer games with a 360 controller, like Skyrim. That said, you can flame me now, so you won't do it again and again later More seriously, I'll turn 21 soon and I'm french. And no, I HATE snails, and never ate any frogs! I'm curious, and I like a hell lot of things. I'm a musician, playing guitar, bass, harmonica, a bit of piano and I sing but uh... Not that well. I had multiple bands, and I do a lot of computer assisted music in various genre. I like reading philosophy stuff, poetry, watching "bizarre" or sci-fi movies. i'm mostly into cyberpunk actually. I'm a huge fan of Ghost in the Shell! About games, I'm more into real survival horror like Resident Evil until the 4th, Silent Hill (Sh2 probably being mah favorite game ever), infiltration games like MGS, Hitman, RPG... Various genres in fact, as long as they're challenging, or having a great ambience or storyline, not just stunning graphics. VoilĂ , I think I wrote enough. I'm glad to be part of this wonderful community, and looking foward to work with you guys. Have a good day/night/evening!
