  1. Minor language warning: Here's the original version of the same portion of the book: http://thenexusforum...showtopic=96752 And here's the current: It all began by a shallow, ocean-blue pond among a few creaky old pines and oaks. Sitting by watching the soft water flow alongside in a creek, and listening to the birds singing, frogs chirping, and several bees buzzing was a woman lying on a blue and yellow blanket. She was a short woman, beautiful with thick, long, curly black hair, wooden-brown eyes, wearing a long dress the same deep blue as the water in the pond next to her. A picnic basket filled to the top now with only empty plastic sandwich bags and wrappers lied beside off to the left. She gazed out toward the remaining half of the sun setting off to the west and surrounded by a sky filled with countless shades of blazing pinks, reds, oranges, and indigos. Here, was one of the last similarly pleasant scenes the world would remember in the next three decades. The woman’s name was Lina Mercedes, a native resident to Quito, Ecuador, and married for seven years to Francisco Mercedes, who also was a native to this same city. She, Lina, worked over at a nearby hospital as a nurse, an occupation that she as a young child always wanted to have, being the good-hearted person she was, and willing to help other people in need. Francisco Mercedes, on the other hand, currently worked as an executive at a public local bank; one that had been rebuilt two years earlier after the previous building that hosted it had been destroyed when a public bus rigged with explosives crashed into the building. The resulting aftermath of the building’s collapse led to one of the largest bombings in the country of the century so far, discussed hotly even today. Today, in 2049, the world had achieved virtually no technological progress since the early part of the century, despite common conditioned belief that the world truly was moving forward. This matter was due to many problems: Political strife among various factions and nations, devastated economies, constantly fluctuating weather patterns, and ever-increasing poverty. Progress, if any at all, was slow and almost impractical – people were constantly bombarded with the newest gadgets of the world, while growing ever-more blind to the events happening around them. “Why can’t we humans ever use any common sense and get along for a change?” she had often asked Ana and Mary, her two closest friends. “Don’t ask me!” was the only response she ever got. Lying down comfortably on the blanket, Lina’s head began to fill up with various thoughts. She remembered many things she heard from others and read in the newspapers about the abnormal phenomena occurring currently particularly in and around the United States. While it was true peoples’ speech and the newspapers were filled with almost unimaginable levels of bias, it was surely true that things out of the ordinary were going on throughout the North American continent. Throughout the United States, temperature and climate changes were widespread, even more so than in other parts of the world. Natural disasters, such as an increased amount of earthquakes on average along the West Coast, a spurt of cyclonal activity in the Caribbean, and increased super cell activity in the Great Plains were becoming part of everyday life and news. Throughout Canada, blistering cold winters, often remaining a good deal below -10 Fahrenheit and disease outbreaks frequently became critical situations, requiring foreign support blocked by isolationist policies. In Mexico, a growth in the uneven distribution of wealth in the country and growing social issues often led to strikes and riots requiring intervention by the military, rather than simply the every-day police officers. One particular city seemed to be relatively unaffected. Nashville, in the United States, was a region of seeming growth and prosperity. The city itself and immediately surrounding regions saw a continuously warmer and warmer, wet winters, followed by drier summers. Throughout town, the city boomed with new high-rises dotting the skyline and foreign plants making their home in the clay soil. U.S. military and governmental presence in the region was minimal – one of many in the region, a particular nearby military base towards the city of Clarksville along the border with Kentucky, Fort Campton, was closed due to fears kept hidden to the public. Many people often blamed the city’s, and continent’s unnatural phenomena to be caused on behalf of Olvusulthia, at the time, the Earth’s only underground nation. Not much information of it was released of it publicly, and North American leaders usually twisted most of what was released to the world as “Unbiased and uncensored” information. However, a growing common belief was that there was a place of joy and freedom unseen for decades by the world hiding beneath miles of clay and rock. A paradise, where a rebirth of hope for the future would brew. While it was supposedly just superstition, this belief was now accepted by countless millions in the world, desperate for change and hope. Ten years ago, Olvusulthia, the only underground colony in the world up to date, won independence through war from the United States-Canada-Mexico coalition, known as NAFTA – once “North American Free Trade Agreement”, now “North American Freedom and Trust Alliance”. The war, started in 2034, lasted 5 long years of fighting, decimating both sides in the conflict, according to the newspapers. Although the name, “Olvusulthia” was of unknown origin, it was the commonly accepted name by everyone for the country, the people, and their language. Their leader, a one “Pordenta Jreksiveri’i” never appeared in person on the papers or on television, but rumor was he was a man who was more than he seemed to be. A threat to the “stability in the world and to democracy everywhere”, though this was shot down by public words, saying that he, Pordenta Jreksiveri’i, was leading the Revolution for global change. A verbal war between the public and media continued to this very day on differing opinion of whose side the Olvusulthians really were on. The country, or “City on an Island” as one might say, was believed to be a megalopolis of prosperity, great weather, huge skyscrapers that rivaled the magnificence ones in the U.A.E and much of Europe and Japan. An artificial sun provided light and life to a place where naturally, there was meant to be none. People of all cultures and races lived together in equal harmony and treatment toward one another, their government, and nature. Technology and nature thrived and exceeded that of the main world, surpassing all other nations in technology by no less than a century. It was the dream that the Human Race, has been, since the dawn of civilization, trying to finally achieve. And now with the birth of Olvusulthia, it had finally become reality…
  2. Well, one of my biggest complaints was the dialogue. It seemed too static for my tastes and the character had no lines. It was like you'd talk to an NPC through telepathy and they'd respond to you back in plain speech. Giving a voice to the character is something I'd really like to see if it isn't too much work. Also, I hated getting up in NPC faces when talking. Something about it seemed akward. When other NPC's talked in game as well, sometimes they talk so much about the same thing it'd get annoying and they'd wear down the topics really fast. It also got annoying that they kept on talking about certain things that happened months ago in game time, like the siege of Kvatch, but they don't give a crap about the more recent event of the huge Oblivion gate at Bruma.

    Newb Here!

Welcome to the Nexus forums!
  5. I'd personally recommend not being a complete warrior, or mage, or stealth character. Being a jack of all trades of sorts helps you a lot when you're fighting an enemy that would normally be very difficult to beat had you been say, a mage fighting a lich, or brawler fighting a horde of Dremora.
  6. I never could get Morrowind to run on my computer for whatever weird reason, but I heard that it was better than Oblivion in many aspects, including its expansions. Though I really did enjoy SI for Oblivion.
  7. Tierra went through the floor? We'd best watch out then. It seems the earth is getting hungry... She never reappeared from the ceiling? Or was she dead? That's a truly weird glitch right there if she lived, but didn't return...
  8. I played that game briefly and really disliked it myself. The MW games are completely overrated IMO.
  9. It could just be some altered settings or something. Did you get the download of the CS from another site other than the official Oblivion website? If I were you, I'd still try to use it anyway. If it doesn't load the files in the esp.s or esm.s in the editor, then you'll probably have to either find another download of the CS or reinstall it.
  10. Banned because I haven't been able to stop by Nexus much recently.
  11. You could start here. I don't think it's possible to get more complex details on a person other than name and location though without paying a bit of a price first. http://www.peoplelookup.com/people-search....hform=name&

    Greetings

    Welcome to the Nexus Forums!
  13. If you don't have the level in the skill required, just use this cheat: modpcs (spacebar) "skillnamehere" (spacebar) "number needed to reach a skill of 100" It should look something like this: modpcs destruction 90 The above being used, provided your current skill in destruction is 10. Another example is, say your skill in restoration is 33. Then to instantly get a skill of 100, just type in "modpcs restoration 67" Just like that.

    Steam sale

I didn't take advantage of really any of their deals, but then again, there was really nothing that I was interested in having that I didn't already have, then on sale. Glad they do sales like these though. Can't find better prices really at any game store, and even online. About Steam issues, I've been a member of Steam since 2005 and I have to say that they've come a very long way. Originally, the service was crappy as (insert word here), but now they seem to work perfectly for the most part. Even Steam offline seems to finally be working correctly nowadays (which I actually only use once in a blue moon when the net is down here). The only thing that really bugs me about them is when they constantly bombard you with updated news and stuff.
  15. I do not think it was the game became to difficult for "you", I cannot see that as your fault. It was an atrocious game to begin with. Vegas2 was so much better it is almost a different game. If you are an old hand at FPS then I would think you would have no trouble with any of them. However Vegas was just wrong. I didn't think the game to be bad. Just difficult at points and the checkpoints were quite spread apart for my tastes. I looked past that and enjoyed it till the middle when it got too... how might I say...? "Frustrating"? in the middle?
  16. Next stop: 3D everything. Sometime in 2030, everything in the world is 3D. Video games, movies, the works. Then suddenly, there is a surge in the number of people who are discovered to have major eye health issues. The media and other people go on ahead and blame 3D things on it, not taking into account that there's a global carrot shortage and that a lot of these people with eye issues were found out to be coal miners who couldn't afford eye care. That's pretty much what's happening with video games today.
  17. Well first you have to reach 500 posts at least (which seems to be the case) then go to my controls, edit profile information and near the top, it'll say Custom Member title. In this field, type whatever you'd like.
  18. I don't know whether to say it's a so-called "guilty pleasure" (as I only hide it from my mom), but The Saboteur is another game that I got recently and I'm hiding from my mom, but not really other people.
  19. Rainbow 6 Vegas. I was about halfway through the game and then it got too difficult for me and I just sort of turned my attention to other games afterwards.
  20. The mean IQ of people averaged is 100 points, with a standard deviation of 15 points. 85 - 115 is the "average range" and 70 - 130 is the expected range. Your IQ, is within the expected range, but is above average. Well, to be honest, I wouldn't restrict intelligence to mainly IQ scores and such. While they are good measures of test-taking skills, relative knowledge, and memory, they often don't take into account common sense, communication skills, practical intelligence, and motor skills. All of which are also forms of intelligence. Often in many "Western" countries, the IQ test is the main measure of a person's general intelligence. However, in many other countries, they don't care how good of an IQ you may have - they're more interested in your common sense and/or social abilities. In addition, IQ tests can often be quite biased, even with regulations on them. They contain information that may be only well-known among the residents of the country where said test is taken in. For example, one person may have an IQ of 125 in one country, but 118 in another because the test he/she took in the second country contained a lot of exclusive info about that particular country's history or politics or culture, or whatever, that the person didn't know about. About my intelligence though, I'd probably say I'm smart because I tend to learn quickly.
  21. Banned as according to my settings, this topic has reached the 422nd page
  22. Finally, this year's at an end... Lets hope for better this year, 2010... Happy New Year, everyone! Just 6 more hours here... Now where did we place the fireworks...? :whistling:
  23. That's one strange story. I tried looking up a solution for that in the oblivion wiki just for the heck of it really, but I can't find any sort of bug related to your issue mentioned in the articles. Heh, probably just one of those one-of-a-kind bugs you get, eh? :whistling: Your best bet if you really want to do the main quest is reload (provided that you haven't already gone far enough ahead with other forms of game progress).
