Update on NMM version 0.60 and FAQ

Nexus MM is good when you got around 50 mods, after 100 it's just get messy, and after new version everything from install to uninstall takes huge amount of time. After Up NMM and hard uninstall of all mods everything went south. It takes NMM some 3h just to uninstall, after install, all scripts mods have been broken! No to mention waste of HDD space with mod folder and virtual mod folder. Now my skyrim takes around 40 GB and mod folder takes 30GB, virtual mod folder also 30GB. Who thought this will be convenient??

Now I manually uninstall mods and I will never use NMM again, its a lot simpler and faster to just copy file into Skyrim folder. When NMM was released it was really smart and simple tool, but now it's just waste of time, broken tool that outlived its usefulness

Thank you by the advice, but not, FO4 is not in my plans, in fact I only play Skyrim and Dragon Age Origins using the NMM, nothing more. But wait, you mean I can use 2 different versions of the NMM, one for old games and other for new games and there will be no conflict? that sounds very cool.

Please. commenting in a forum is not a bug report. if you really want to help, and not just rant - please use the bug report that we set up just for this reason. If you don't know how to report a bug, start here: http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/460590-reporting-bugs/

 

This is not something new we started just for this version, it has always been a part of the Open Beta from the beginning when the very first version of NMM beta was released. This is how we track and fix problems, and how nearly every software development process works.

 

If you do not use the bug tracker, you are just ranting and not reporting bugs. :pinch:

"Q. Mods are now taking up double the space with this version of NMM. Why is this?

The short version: it's not.

The long version: we're using a system in Windows known as hardlinks and symlinks (depending on whether you install to different hard-drives or not, NMM picks the best one for the task). Essentially, these are shortcuts that your operating system uses to stop the duplication of data while still presenting data in multiple folders. For example, your "Documents" folder in windows uses a similar sort of shortcut.

Using this system, NMM installs your mods to a single folder you specify in the settings and then places shortcuts in your game folders pointing to where the mods actually are for the game you're using. The shortcuts in the mod folder look and act exactly how they would if the files themselves were in the mod folder, but they're not. This is what allows us to accommodate multiple profiles without continually installing and uninstalling mods, and in a quicker fashion than manually uninstalling and reinstalling the mods you want to use.

The folder will make it look as though the shortcuts are taking up a lot of space, but they aren't. If you use 1GB of mods then NMM will still only use 1GB of space, not 2GB of space like a quick check might show. The easiest way to test is to check your available hard-drive space. It won't have increased any more than before."

I'm having fun reading all the rage from individuals who have no understanding or tolerance of the nature of modding, let alone actual software development. Having just lost my old laptop and gotten a decent desktop to replace it, I suppose now is as good a time as ever to dust off what I have learned about modding and coding, and improve on it. Keep up the hard work, Nexus Team.

I've had some issues with new Nexus Mod Manager. Some of the mods don't open up for custom settings properly. NMM v0.55.8 worked great. This new one didn't transition my mods properly. I'm trying to redo my collection but some of them don't work properly and show properly for the custom settings. dunno why I don't get any errors. I just might revert back to older nmm if I can't figure this out.

For example Calientes Beautiful bodies Edition -CBBE- installs mod but doesn't goto custom setting up? I don't know which of its features are being installed?

Static Mesh improvements mod did work properly and shows the options you can configure the mod. but Ruins clutter improved didn't work. It just installed, without choices.

Sorry guys first time I've had to post any issue with your latest Nmm. I'll keep on tinkering with it till I'll figure something out. :smile:

Updated:

Ok what I did to get it to work was reinstalling NMM 0.56.1 over 0.60.8 and it showed my mods still active. So you have to remove active mods before you guys upgrade 0.60. Then upgrade and reactivate the mods. At least now for me they're showing the options for the mods during the install.

 

Update 2:

 

Yes you have to disable all the mods before you update to the lastest NMM versions. It works but I still have a few mods not installing correctly but most of them work. There should be a warning for this before they update to the newer version. Older Nmm isn't compatible. For some reason if you just update from earlier version to this 0.60.8 it doesn't disable the mods. Even if you click on disabling them in the newer version they're still active for some reason. Sadly best is todo a clean install. Alot of work if you have it already setup perfectly.. If you guys don't want to do the work again I suggest don't update yet.

i personally tought of donating attleast 2 dollars for you guys , but you know i may not be a professional modder but i had the game running just fine with 106 mods for atleast 4-12 hours before i could get a crash but after the update , only 6 mods were activated and now im trying to put it all back together because your stupid backup tool dint work for me , so here i am now trying to restore back 106 mods not to mention i have to do them orderly because of the conflicts betwen them , thank god i screenshot the mods so now atleast i know what mods i have but in order to put it all back together , that requires work , HOURS of work and im a working man with a steady jobs and dont really have the time to WASTE on your screw ups .... so yeah f*** YOU ! all those insult , rage and death threats you guys deserve it and im not gonna donate s*** for you guys .

 

 

RTFM comes to mind, and I think the site is better off without you full stop so keep your money. Micalov.

All I can say about this is that I will not be updating NMM any further then the previous version to 0,60. It messed my game up terribly since I use more mods that didn't come from nexus (I didn't use NMM to install them to begin with), and I had to reinstall all of my mods. The whole virtual install business ought to be optional, and I couldn't find anywhere to disable this crappy function. I prefer all of my mod information to be in the Data folder instead of in a virtual install folder. Nexus screwed the pooch with this update, and I for one will stop using NMM, and possibly Nexus, should an update ever be forced upon me.
