BSN is shutting down; files there could be lost.

FYI, I added all the projects I uploaded to the spreadsheet. I reuploaded them all, even those we had not yet encountered through the pages, so you will come across some of them later. All of them are in the ME2 tab. -

Works for me. I did bundle some of his mods that were very similar. -

Well, I'm done, but I definitely won't be doing this twice. http://i.imgur.com/CT8oPv6.png I need some sleep now :). -

It's xDarkicex. He made a bunch of retextures (not high quality, just increase contrast and change colors, but I'm not here to judge). The problem with one Nexus page is that it's harder to find a specific mod from Nexus itself, since you only search the title. I think I'll go for individual files, it's not too much work. A lot of copy paste . Edit : Ah, I don't know if it's really that much more practical to have individual files. Ugh, choices... -

I received an answer from a modder, giving me permission to reupload wherever (author doesn't seem to care too much). He has 27 projects, should I reupload them individually or in a group ? The latter is easier, obviously, but harder to find for users. -

Tarshana's backup doesn't include private mods, if I'm not mistaken. However, using the spreadsheet remains the best and most efficient way to solve the issue of losing mods. -

What speed are you downloading at ? Mine is at about 50 KB/s, so if you download sensibly faster (at least 100KB/s), it will be worth it for you to continue. Given the size of the website, you'll finish faster than me. I *think* the website is putting bandwidth limits per IP, which could explain why the download rate is so low. Good point on the read-only issue. I haven't seen a way to filter private mods. The only way I see is to have 2 tabs open, one logged in, one not logged in (from a proxy for example), and compare page by page. Easiest to backup everything, I think. Unless you can somehow catch all project indexes when logged in and when not logged in with a scrawler, then compare in a spreadsheet. I suppose you could automate this, but I don't have the skills to do it^^. The spreadsheet has instructions to avoid overlapping, see the Inventory Status tab. Also, read carefully the instructions on the first tab :). -

1400 notes now, but still not many people actually helping. I bet they're all thinking, "I'll reblog this, now I've done my share of helping and can go on to reacting to the Internet's next ephemeral event". Maybe I'm too cynical ? -

I didn't use tumblr until now, liked and reblogged . 284 notes, pretty good I think. Wait... You speak French ? -

I have room, for now. Since it isn't very big once compressed, I can keep a copy if needed. I agree with you Tarshana, I thought more people would come and help. I'm quite disappointed for now. We're doing this for them, we could just keep our backups and not care about the rest of the community. -

@giftfish 1. Yes, it's what my computer's working on. I'm not doing much^^. 2. Tarshana sent me a copy of the BSN Legacy website. We have redundancy now, yay ! "Mod Author Advertising". Not sure if it will work, but it certainly can't hurt to try. Some mod authors are literally unfindable on the Internet. tmp7704 is a very prolific one, it would be a shame to lose his mods because of that. -

Depends if their account has been updated recently or not. If it has, the About tab should have a button to send a message. Otherwise, I haven't seen any way to contact them. -

@qwertyzeldar Thanks. Help would be appreciated . @giftfish Didn't know so many projects had been deleted, definitely makes it way more impractical to use the method I was describing. -

Hmm. I'm not sure if I agree with this. The last check to make sure we haven't missed anything, when we have gone through the entire list of projects, would be to verify that all project indexes from 1 to 4168 are indeed present in the spreadsheet. (pretty sure you can do that automatically) If we omit projects, we can't do that as easily. Either we trust ourselves to never fail, never miss a single project, and take the chance to lose one or more mods, or we have to list every single one of them we went through. If no downloadable files are there, it's quite easy. Just put n/a everywhere. Edit : I'm a bit disappointed with reddit. Many upvotes, but not much actual help :/. -

Like Tarshana, I'm contacting authors that are already on Nexus if they have : - either not up to date mods on Nexus, compared to BSN - only some of their mods on Nexus - to warn them, so that they can anticipate and edit their descriptions to avoid dead links I may have forgotten to search the contacted author list once or twice. I'll do that more consistently now. I'll upload the mod, then. The readme clearly says "you can use them freely anywhere but credit is appreciated. " Edit : Apparently the mod is already on Nexus. I don't get why it didn't show up in Google's search results though, weird. Better double check before uploading :). -

Question : for mods with open permissions and no way to contact the author, do we reupload immediately, as we come across these, or do we wait for everything to be sorted out ? -

I ported all the mod authors I contacted to the list. I'll do some more pages now :). -

Got it, thanks. I didn't mean to contact them if their mod isn't on Nexus, that's fine by me. Will follow your advice though. Yeah, I added the masterlist, and I agree with removing redundant data from the other sheets. I'll let you handle that, I'll just port the existing data to the new sheet. -

@SirSalami or @Dark0ne, I suppose you haven't seen my first message asking for help, sorry for repeating myself if you did. I need help from an admin here. I've tried to contact a mod author named Dheuster on Nexus, but I get the error "The member Dheuster cannot receive any new messages". If this is because his inbox is full, is there any way to work around it ? -

@Tarshana, the hello was me . @giftfish "Projects without any downloads can be ignored and should not be placed in the inventory. Be careful, though. Some projects provide Mediafire downloads in the "Project Details", but no downloadable files." This sentence is a bit confusing to me. Should we ignore projects without any downloadable files or projects that haven't been downloaded ? I suppose the latter is wrong ? Why only English sites ? There are many russian modders, and while some of the russian websites do steal mods, others are legit. It certainly is hard to tell, though. A remark on the sample message. I've used 2 variations of it, depending on whether the modder has already uploaded to Nexus (or elsewhere), or not. Basically, I contact all authors, even if they already uploaded elsewhere. Useful in case they forgot something, for example. It may not be necessary, but you never know. Sometimes mods on Nexus aren't up to date. -

FYI, I posted information for this project on Reddit. Edits to existing posts go generally unseen there, better to make new ones. Upvote them if you can, so they stay longer at the top and can reach more people. @gift 1. I didn't insert links, I just copy pasted the author name from the project page, and the links were automatically copied with it. Didn't lose any time with that, trust me . 2. You're right, it's a pain, but more importantly, it takes time. Why not do the cleanup afterwards ? 3. Oooh, my bad. I'll edit that, we definitely need a new column for this info though. In case someone else needs to contact the author, and the original person who contacted him/her is not available. 4. What if there are multiple websites ? Do I just use the same order, like "website1, website2" / "username1, username2" ? Very few mod authors leave permission details in their description (none so far), permissions are something relatively new in modding, it would seem. Will keep screenshots though. Edit : I'll let you do the edits you need to do gift, I'll make mine in an hour or so, to make sure I'm not interfering.
