BioWare Continuity Network (BCN) - Preserving the BSN
CreeperLava replied to moho25's topic in PC Gaming
Weird, but notice the URL is different from the project's page. I suppose the files related to the gallery are located in a different directory than the project itself : Project : http://social.bioware.com/project/3492/ Gallery : http://social.bioware.com/bw_projects_gallery_file.php?project_id=3492&project_media_id=6334 It does mean everything hasn't been removed, but it doesn't help much otherwise :/. -
BioWare Continuity Network (BCN) - Preserving the BSN
CreeperLava replied to moho25's topic in PC Gaming
I sent them a tweet and a mail. You can get all the links to contact them here : https://forum.bioware.com/ (it's a placeholder page) I also noticed something interesting, that makes me think the removal of the projects was either voluntary or really clumsy. If you look at each project page's source code (right click > view page source), you can see there is absolutely nothing. ie empty files, 0 bytes, not even hidden content. I find it unlikely that someone would make such an error, not on purpose. -

BSN portal site is still up but the project pages themselves aren't on my end. As for HTTrack I've just been using it to save the html files from the forums, the backup I have was nowhere near complete but I still managed to get a decent amount saved so if you want I can send you what I have. Please do, yes ! I can't access projects either, only the list. It's quite rude of them to act like this, especially since I don't see what good it does for them to close now without notice instead of in a month or 2... At least we finished inventorying, but many projects haven't been ported. Let's hope the original mod authors still have copies of their mods, if they ever answer us. I sent a reminder to those who haven't answered me on Steam. Edit : Ugh, since I can't edit anything on the spreadsheet anymore, here is what should be added. On CMA, for TTTr96 : His mods are polish translations, he reuploaded them here : http://www.dragon-age.com.pl/pobierz/category/2-spolszczenia.html (link to add to ME1 sheet, ID 7). Some of his DAO translations are on Nexus, but they're outdated and he plans to remove them. So, also update the DAO sheet with the link above. -

BSN is still online for me, at least the projects. What did you save with httrack, exactly ? We still need a complete forum backup. -
IMPORTANT: Potentially critical issue, I'm logged as another user
CreeperLava replied to vojteek's topic in Site Support
Hi Axel, thanks for helping ! The issue also happens with this mod : http://www.nexusmods...rim/mods/69784/ I made a gif showing what happens, not sure if that's useful. http://i.imgur.com/Wd1ZJJK.gifv If it helps troubleshooting the issue in general, I noticed the last action of this user was to endorse the said mod. Thankfully, I don't seem to have access to any private stuff of this user (as Dark0ne mentioned). Still pretty problematic, especially since it prevents me to actually download the damn mod . -

That's what I meant :). When there are empty projects, don't inventory them, but simply add the prefix invalid to their name in the Complete Project ID List tab. Hope I'm clear enough :/. -

Alright. If it doesn't add too much work, think of adding the prefix "invalid" to empty projects' name, in the Complete Project ID List. That way my table is updated correctly, to only show projects that haven't been inventorized, for a last double check before calling it done. I can also do it, if you send me your spreadsheet once done . -

I believe we're pretty much done. I'm only coming across empty projects, now. I'll continue for a while, but I see no reason to go to the end if it's only going to be like that. We may miss a few projects that have no files, but only links to other hosts, but is it really a big deal ? -

As we go down to less downloaded projects, I often feel like some projects aren't worth our time. It is hard indeed to not make a judgement, even more difficult to create a limit between "good" and "not worth it" projects. I'm curious to see what you will come up with. I only have a partial backup (still a few 100s of GB). Once the forums are down, we should try to merge our backups. Unless someone has a complete backup, that is, but it would surprise me, given the size of the forum. -

Why not use the "online" methodology, as long as the website is up ? I think giftfish should be able to rollback your edits :). Welcome aboard ! 1. Spreadsheet edits : I didn't think useful to let you know of every single edit I made besides of inventorying. I didn't remove anything, so your instructions are still valid. I just added upon the existing structure (I'm thinking of my table). You can even ignore it while inventorying (unless you come across empty projects), since it updates itself automatically. If you want me to help integrate this table with the process, just ask. I wasn't aware of your decision for NWN, sorry about that. It's not that bad though, both sheets can be easily merged. 2. QuarianAnalyst and Shae : I recontacted one of QuarianAnalyst's contacted authors as I went through projects. I noted it in the contacted authors sheet. Haven't tried all of them, though. As for a percentage of authors that respond, it's relatively low. See for yourself, about 50% of mod authors have nothing in their "contact notes" cell, which means they haven't answered. -
In response to post #43210445. #43210615 is also a reply to the same post. Makes sense, thanks for answering. I suppose you've already thought of it, but I think it would be useful to contact the authors of these tools, so that they can help develop these command line interfaces, if they're absent. In any case, I wish you luck !

Fantastic news, a great decision indeed ! Thank you for everything you have been doing for the modding community ! I'm excited to see how the modding scene will evolve with this new tool and all the features, like profiles, you are developing. I'm curious to see how you plan to give us the ability to mod all the games with one tool. Some games are harder to mod than others, and require specific tools, like the Mass Effect trilogy. How will you tackle these ? By integrating the tools already made for these games, or creating new ones ?

BioWare Continuity Network (BCN) - Preserving the BSN

Makes sense, I understand. If you need help finding NWN projects on NWN Vault, ask Werelynxofneverwinter, on Nexus. He's an author I contacted, he helped me find some of the projects from the NWN tab (including some of the projects you had inventorized). He's also an admin from NWN Vault, I think. -

For example, in the projects ID tab, several projects (look in the lines 840-850 for example) are marked as "todo" (which means they're not present in any of the tables. Hence, mod author not contacted and external host not listed). I believe you didn't add them to the table because they don't have any downloadable files. However, some of these project pages do include links to external hosts or websites, which should be taken into account. To find them quickly, look for "todo" mods with a filled "Extra Info" cell. That cell usually contains a Nexus account or external link to the mod. I think this information should be in the table, too. If you want, I can take care of it, in case you're having trouble understanding what I mean. Sorry, I didn't mean to offend :/. I know how much time you take for this, the number of pages you've inventoried is really impressive. Here is the simple version, I hope it helps you understand : when a project page is empty (no files or links to external files), just add the "invalid " prefix to the project name in the "Complete Project ID List" tab. Since empty projects aren't listed in the table itself, which makes sense, it's a way to see that we haven't missed any of these projects. Otherwise they show up as "todo" projects, and we have to double-check them later. About NWN2, I added that tab yesterday. It's not a problem if some of the NWN2 mods are in the NWN tab, I think. What do you think should be skipped ? It's not like skipping 1 or 2 cells in each row will save much time. Copy paste helps make it take close to no time already. What takes time is searching for external hosts and contacting mod authors, which we can't really skip, since it's the whole point of the project^^. -

Ladyofpayne, if you want to save projects, you should consider working on it yourself, too, instead of just making requests. -

1. To jump to a specific page, you can simply modify the URL. There should be an example in the instructions . 2. I don't think it should be necessary to search for a project ID. It depends if gift and Tarshana want to switch to the ID inventory instead of the page inventory. For now, we have been using the Inventory Status tab to know who does what and avoid overlap. You take a page, and you complete it, simple as that (detailed instructions are in the first tab and in the header). Edit : Oh, and hi Tarshana ! -

1. Yes, that's the place where all the mods can be found. It's interesting that you would have 542 pages, are you part of private groups on BSN ? In that case, you'd be the only one I know of to have access to these mods, and be able to save them. 2. As written in the column's tooltip, "IDs in boldface require logging in to view". 3. The best way to find an author is to google his name. Which website doesn't really matter as long as the author is still active there. There is an example in the instructions. For example, if you are searching for tmp7704, you'd google eg : "tmp7704" dragon age. The quotes are important so that google only sends results that contain his name exactly. -

I did yes, but stopped it again a few days ago. I'm now away from home, and prefer not to let my computer on when I'm not present. The download must be up to 600 GB, I think. Still far from finished though, and I don't think it could be done till October, even if I let the computer run 24/7. The bandwidth given by Bioware's forums is just too limited. Either that or HTTrack is the bottleneck, either way I don't know what I could do to backup everything. The only way would be for Bioware to send us their website directly. Would be much faster, for sure, since they already must have archived backups. Didn't fextralife backup all forum posts ? -

Has anyone seen the popup that appeared recently on BSN ? It warns that the projects are now read-only and will be taken down eventually (though no time limit is given). So, we have our confirmation. -

@giftfish I won't have time to make the edits, school begins soon for me. Did you take a look at the mods I reuploaded ? The description clearly state the origin of the mod, and permission are also clear as to who is the author and where the file comes from. It may not be absolutely necessary to make the edit in this case, although I'll follow the sample you provided for potential other reuploads. Example : http://www.nexusmods.com/masseffect2/mods/96 -

School is starting soon for me, so I won't be able to do much in the next few weeks. I'll try to do a page from time to time, but having more help would be very welcomed. We can't do everything with Tarshana and I as the only active members. -

I'm back ! Forgot all about this for a week . Nice work krlewis on the data lists, very useful. Now we just need a way to check which projects have been inventoried. I think the VLOOKUP function should be able to tell us that ? Also, adding a URL column in the "Complete Project ID List" tab, with each project's URL, would be useful. You'd go down the URL list, and use that method as the main one. It's better than the pages method we had earlier. -

Good (?) news : http://i.imgur.com/HxA5FpV.png Apparently they don't have a deadline to take down the projects, yet. I don't think we should stop porting to Nexusmods though, it will come sooner or later. I'm just glad it gives us more time to go through the 417 pages.
